Part 11 - We Could Burn It All Down

Chapter 189 - Once More for the Glory

When Jacob had said there was 'someone' he and Future Miles needed to find, he really meant two people. However, they needed to find one to get to the other. Miles was feeling a little in the dark at the moment knowing only who the first person they needed to find was: the Doctor. However, the only people with any hope of finding him would be Edward or Teresa. Given that Teresa knew what Jacob looked like, they opted to find Edward. The former Grand Admiral of Sol Galactic Command was never difficult to find, at least. Miles stayed invisible by Jacob's side as they reached what had once been SGC's orbital headquarters in 9559. The view of Earth was incredible, but Miles had seen it plenty and Jacob was in too much of a bad mood to care. The pair made their way to Edward's office where the doors opened automatically. The former admiral turned to see who it was.

"Do I know you? I must warn you I have…"

"The Venom symbiote. Everyone knows. I'm Jacob and…oh forget hiding Miles. You've made enough of a mess for it to matter."

Miles turned visible again and lowered his mask and hood causing Edward to tense up.

"Err…hey Edward."

"Is Gwen with you? Or was that really her that was killed in that little scuffle?"

"That was a Gwen that died; my wife. Not the one who's being hunted for being Empress."

"Do I smell time travel?"

"Yeah."

"We need your help, Edward." Jacob butted in.

"Right. Scarlet King related, I presume?"

"Yes. We need to find the Doctor. You know the Time Lord?"

"I haven't seen him since we defeated Helltreader and not-yet-Empress Gwen summoned Alduin."

"You've no ideas?"

"Have you tried Gallifrey?"

"No. We'll take a look. Can you keep an eye out?"

"No problem."

"Ta. Oh, and you might want to get everything ready for an imminent war with the Scarlet King."

"In case you haven't noticed we've just finished off a civil war. Excuse me if that takes a while."

"Just…do what you can."

Gallifrey was far enough from Earth that it had remained largely untouched by the Empire. Because of that, it was the perfect place for someone to keep out of the way. Far out in the vast deserts away from any major settlements stood a lonely blue police box. Its lone occupant was reading a book when there was a knock at the door. He sighed and put it back in its place on the shelf, then clicked his fingers as he descended the steps to the TARDIS' central control panel. Through the door came two people, one with a cloak and the other in some sort of suit.

"Hello. What brings you out here?" The Doctor asked.

The people removed their hoods and masks.

"We need your help." Said the person in the suit.

"Oh it's you. Flashy suit you've got there, Miles."

"Thanks."

"Like he said, we need your help." Said Jacob.

"Here to drag me into another of your little wars?"

"Not directly."

"How much do you know about the Scarlet King, Doc?" Asked Miles.

"Very little I'm afraid. They might have a few volumes in the Citadel archives. But I can't help you, so out now before you start…"

"Doctor, wait. We need to do some time travelling and be able to get back." Explained Jacob hastily.

"To find a super weapon? No. I've had enough of your wars."

"We need to get Conall. He knows loads about Khahrahk."

"That's who we're looking for?" Asked Miles.

"Who else? Can you help us, Doctor?"

The Doctor eyed the pair warily then sighed and started flicking switches on the TARDIS' console before pulling levers that set the mchine in motion.

"What the hell."

Dimension 7610, Alchemax Headquarters…

Two Gwen Stacy's had just hit the ground hard and leapt for the computer containing the blueprints for Kingpin's collider. Suddenly, a web pulled it away from them and they butted heads, then turned to see who the newcomer was.

"Hey Jacob, shouldn't there be three Gwen's?" Asked the Miles Morales in some sort of futuristic suit and clutching the computer under his arm.

"I'm not even going to try and explain things anymore. But something tells me I might have erased a bit of time." Replied the person standing next to him holding a sword and sporting a red cloak with gold and silver armour.

"Ouch. I guess we just wait for Conall, then?"

"Yes."

"Why are you waiting for Conall? He won't come." Asked Helltreader-Gwen.

"He will. Just wait…oh look."

A gold wreath of flames appeared, through which walked Conall. He looked thoroughly confused.

"This…what have you done here? And who did it?"

A TARDIS touched down and Helltreader-Doctor stepped out with his sonic screwdriver ready.

"I should have known. But…you two…there's something wrong with you." Conall said to Future Miles and Jacob.

"It's a kinda long story." Said Future Miles.

"I've got time. Let's hear it."

"Three googolplex years? You sure you have that long?"

"Maybe not."

Future Miles turned his attention to the two Gwens as well as Helltreader-Miles, Young Miles and Peter B Parker.

"Can't you guys sort this one out peacefully?"

"Hand over the computer." Helltreader-Gwen snapped.

"We stole it. Finders keepers." Said Peter.

"We need it more than you."

"Err…guys?" Young Miles tried to interject.

"Why do you need it more? We need it to get home." Young Gwen challenged.

"We need it to stop Helltreader from devouring every star in the multiverse."

"What's even on that thing?" Asked Conall, donning his gold battle armour and cape.

"Schematics for a temporal collider." Replied Future Miles.

"That sounds very bad for the multiverse."

"Guys?" Young Miles tried to interrupt again.

"I think I'll destroy the computer and trash that collider before any harm can come of it." Conall concluded, drawing a gold sword.

All the spiders tensed up, and suddenly everyone except Jacob and Young Miles lunged at Future Miles and the computer.

"Elerst nalir!" Jacob bellowed.

For a split second, everyone except Conall was frozen then dropped to the ground. Conall collided with Future Miles and made to strike the spider down, but Miles was quick and fired a web pulling him to safety. The immortal stopped, eyeing the spider warily. Meanwhile, everyone else was picking themselves up slowly, groaning and clutching their heads.

"You got some skills, kid." Peter remarked to Jacob.

"Kid? I'm twenty-eight."

"Yeah whatever."

Conall suddenly leapt for Future Miles again who webbed the computer to the tree he'd just been sticking to and jumped at his aggressor, charging a mega venom strike that hit Conall's Ethereal charged fist. The resulting explosion knocked everyone to the ground again leaving just the two combatants standing. Future Miles began throwing punches, deciding if he could beat Conall at his own game it might persuade him to talk. Clearly people talking Elder Tongue didn't concern him. The fighting became faster and faster until it was little more than blurs of hands and feet to the bystanders. Suddenly, a pair of golden wings spread wide and the pair rocketed into the air. Miles kicked off Conall, pulling himself clear of his opponents grip on his throat, then fired a web to reel himself back in and plant both feet in the immortal's chest. They began to tumble, then Conall caught himself and grabbed Miles with telekinesis, holding him in place.

"Wow, you're a real pain."

"Yeah. I've fought you too many times."

"Did I win them all?"

"No. You lost most of them, or gave up."

"Interesting. Now, any last requests before I win this one?"

"Yeah. Hear me and Jacob out. We came back to find you."

"I'm blushing. Would you like my phone number?"

"Pretty sure you never had a phone."

"Nope. Alrighty, why'd you come back for your best enemy?"

"Because we need you to help us fight the Scarlet King. You beat him before."

"Twice, actually. Then he sort of disappeared."

"To Vaxar."

"Is that another multiverse by any chance?"

"Sorta."

"I knew those Quintari weren't telling me everything."

"Stop killing them and they might."

"What an excellent suggestion. So you want me to kill Khahrahk?"

"Help us kill him. Or find a way, at least. In my timeline we defeated him before at the cost of most of the omniverse. We can't destroy it all again, and my son hasn't even been born yet so can't become a High Elder God to help out."

"High Elder Gods? They've been hiding for millennia."

"You ever meet one?"

"Nope.

"Guess that explains why you didn't kick up a fuss with Jacob talking Elder Tongue."

"Is that what he was talking? I thought it sounded a little like Dovahzul."

"I dunno. Maybe they're related? Will you help us, Conall?"

"Me passing up a chance to see my old buddy Khahrahk? Of course I'll help! Now how do we get back to the future?"

"Err…ask one of the Doctors."

Conall grinned and Miles found himself plummeting towards the ground again. He caught himself with some webs and hit the ground, sliding through the snow a little to find everyone was fighting except Jacob who was just watching them hurl the computer around like they were throwing sticks for a dog. Conall dropped down next to Jacob and sighed.

"I'll mop this mess up later. They might even do my job for me if I'm lucky."

"Did Miles explain?"

"Yes he did and I'm joining your little party. I can kill Khahrahk again for a little more glory."

"Thank you. Let's find our ride."

One TARDIS hop later, the trio stepped out onto the roof of the tower where the Miles and Gwen from this timeline suddenly looked very confused.

"Time travel!" Conall exclaimed.

The TARDIS dematerialised leaving the five alone.

"Did you convince anyone?" Jacob asked Past Miles.

"It's been three minutes."

"Oh."

"Like I said: time travel!" Conall repeated.

"What's our next move?" Asked Future Miles.

"Get help. Conall, I need you to go to Bastria and warn Death."

"Bastria? That's the afterlife, isn't it?"

"Yeah." Future Miles replied.

"How do I get there?"

"Take my watch, and bring it back in one piece. That thing's technically older than you, and channelling enough energy to light up New York for a century."

Future Miles handed Conall the device which the immortal strapped on with a look of admiration.

"This wasn't made by any human hand or machine, was it?"

"It was made by Dei Volente to travel between narratives. It's got a lot of mileage."

"Feeling sentimental? Don't worry; I'll keep it in one piece. Now how do I use it?"

After Conall had been sent on his way, Future Miles turned back to Jacob.

"What about us?"

"The Quintari might be able to help us."

"Or give us some dodgy wisdom."

"I think the High Aether knows wisdom won't stop the Scarlet King."

"I really hope you're right this time."

"Remember we're in this mess because you and Gwen messed with time, before you slag me off. Come on; let's find the HA and get some answers."
