It was a few hours later before anyone woke up. Emily being the first having been woken by a nightmare. She took a few moments to control her heavy breathing. She hated nightmares, the sweat that dripped off her, the trembling of her hands for hours afterwards and the pounding in her chest which remained for the rest of the day controlling her if she allows it. But Emily was focusing. Focusing on compartmentalising all the bad that needed to be tucked in the back of her mind. Her friends needed her right now. She had to be the person they could turn to whenever they needed it.
She turned to Spencer, he was lay in his bed just stirring from his sleep. He woke up holding his head having a minor headache due to the concussion he was suffering from. "Are you okay?" She asked concerned for him.
"Yeah, just a small headache." He pulled his body into a sitting position, he wanted to be able to see what was going on. He wondered whether the doctor had been in while they were sleeping. "Is she okay?" He asked looking over to JJ who was still asleep.
"She will be. With everything that's happened I'm not too surprised she had an outburst like that. But she will be fine, it'll take a lot of healing." Emily stood from her bed slowly and carefully, her ribs were hurting more than before because of how she woke. She took some steady breaths pushing with her shaky hands to sit in the chair beside her best friend. Spencer joined her, although keeping a hand to his head where the pressure was, from his headache. Pushing slightly to the area helped take some of the pain away.
They both sat holding her hands, making sure JJ knew they were at her sides. But both were on guard waiting for either the team or the doctor to return to their room. They hoped the latter so that the team wouldn't have to see JJ like this.
It was a couple of hours later before JJ began to stir, the morphine and lorazepam having a strong effect on her. The nurse had been nipping in every half an hour as instructed to check on all the injured agents, and bringing lunch for the two who sat awake at their friends and colleagues bedside.
JJ turned her head, she slowly looked to her friends who sat beside her. "JJ." Emily said softly.
"Morning, JJ" Spencer uttered at the same time.
"It wasn't a dream?" She asked her voice croaking as she spoke.
The two shook their head. "Unfortunately not JJ. I wish it was a dream." Spencer said quietly. He excused himself once he had said it. Claiming he was going to tell someone JJ was awake. He left the room. Taking a minute to breathe and calm down the anxieties he had. Which wouldn't leave his head.
Emily and JJ were left alone in the room. Neither of them said anything. They just held hands as a comfort for them both. JJ tried to list her arm up, only then noticing the restraints. "Emily. Take them off."
"I can't, we have to wait for the doctor to see if you're a risk." She said not looking up. She knew looking at JJ and into her eyes, she would undo the restraints. But she couldn't not after what had happened. Not till the doctors said it was okay. Luckily as she said that the doctor walked through the door, Spencer in tow.
"Sophie." JJ said looking up to her. "Please can we take these off. Please I wont do anything."
Sophie looked to her young patient. "You need to listen to me. What you did before, I understand how you were upset and you've been through a terrible trauma but you need to stay in this bed. Attached to all these machines. You wont do that. So until your oxygen improves your keeping the restraints. You're a danger to yourself at the moment, when your health improves I'll take them off. Or when you prove you are no longer a risk to yourself then I'll take them off." The blonde doctor said bluntly to the young agent.
JJ surprisingly kept quiet. She squeezed Emily's hand for comfort and turned away from the doctor, willing the tears to keep at bay.
"Do you need to do tests Dr Childs?" Emily asked looking up to her.
"Yep, I just need to manually check JJ's stats, and Spencers and then I can leave you alone. Katie will be around later, to check on you and then we can discuss JJ's surgery and discharge dates too." Sophie checked both the stats of Spencer and JJ, she walked Emily to her bed leaving the three agents alone.
Only a few hours later and the team had piled into the room, bringing food and clothes, and books to keep the three ill agents busy during their stay. Derek sat by JJ's bed side, Rossi by Emily's and Garcia by Spencer's, Hotch at the end of the beds eyeing over all his agents.
Both doctors had been in to do the vitals of all their patients and were due to come back to discuss when they could be discharged and when JJ and Spencer could be turned back into adults. One of the doctors who injected the two young agents had travelled to try and figure if they could turn the child agents back into adults sooner than 6 weeks. They had been carrying tests to other adults to see what would happen.
No it was time to discuss everything. Katie, Sophie and Doctor Ralph Herman walked through the door.
"Doctors what do we know?" Hotch asked, his arms crossed, ready to protect and defend his agents.
"I'll start…" Katie began, "… Emily, so far you look to be doing okay and there's nothing more we can do. So we want to keep you overnight and then by tomorrow night you should be out of here and in your own bed. But for you… all three of you, we have contacted your Bureau shrink. You'll be seeing them before you are cleared for work." She smiled seeing a smile on the teams faces at one of their friends going home.
"I've been talking with Ralph, and after a lot of tests on people with broken bones, cuts, head injuries, we have found that aging them back up doesn't affect them, the cuts were still there same for any other injuries, so I believe it is entirely safe you to be changed back into your adult self. Where Spencer I believe you can be released in a couple of days and Jennifer can have her surgery within the next couple of days and then released a couple of days after that. So within a week, you'll al be flying home." Sophie said again smiling seeing most of the agents smiling, but seeing no reaction come from JJ she lay there, not acknowledging anything.
"I agree and I'm ready to put these two back to normal if you are?" Ralph said putting his case down with the vials in.
The team who weren't needed left. Leaving JJ and Spencer in the room, with Katie and Sophie, one at each side. And the smaller agents were turned back into themselves. Or as close to them selves as could be after going through what they did.
