AN: Hi, super long chapter here. Not sure what I think of it yet but I'm just going with the flow.

Thank you so much for you amazing reviews. I love you all so much! Thank you for sticking with me through this!

This story might move a little slow in the beginning and feel a bit all over the place. I want to show that it is a quick but gradual thing JJ is going through and I want to show that this is confusing for everyone, emotions and feelings will be all over the place for everyone because I mean how confusing would it be to you if you'd just been turned to a child or your friend suddenly was so different.

I'm hoping to do one chapter a week. I'm already getting a start on the next one. If you want to see anything, let me know in PM or the reviews. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Please review and let me know what you think. Constructive criticism is welcome.

P.S the reading thing will be addressed at some point. But for JJ that day was so overwhelming, imagine being able to read everything then not being able to read properly of course she is going to say she cant read, most of what she could read is gone. I'm not saying yet as to what level she can read yet so do disappear on me yet because of one detail.

Emily pulled into her drive and glanced back at the small in the booster seat. She was glad she had bought it for Jack a while back, before his sudden growths spurt, it had come in handy then and would definitely be coming in handy now with JJ being so small. The former adult was still sleeping, she was clearly over exhausted from the events of the past couple days and the travel on top of that. The FBI blanket which she had brought home from the jet, a corner of it had found JJ's hands and was wrapped securely in the small fist. It must have been something she had done as a child. Emily thought, trying to remember if when JJ had slept on the jet as an adult, she did something similar. Nothing passed through her mind. As she began the process of getting out the car, she wondered the best way of getting JJ inside without waking her. She looked so peaceful and innocent. Emily wondered if she did wake JJ would she even go back to sleep after the amount of rest she'd had already on the jet and now in the car. It was clear she needed to sleep, but once you woke a child, they tended to be filled with energy. Was she supposed to pretend this little person was a child or adult? She had no idea. For now, she settled on just keeping the blonde asleep unsure what would happen once she woke.

She slung her purse over her shoulder and slowly closed her door, as to not to wake JJ. Though it seemed unsuccessful. A soft cry came from the back seats, nothing as harsh as before but still a cry. The girl was either stirring or in the midst of a nightmare, so Emily quickly rounded the car and opened the door, unstrapping JJ's belt and lifting her into her arms, keeping her close. "It's okay." She hushed. Rocking and walking to her front door.

The rock and walk, always successful, because by the time they walked the short distance to the front door of Emily's home JJ was back asleep. There was a slight struggle as she tried to open the door as well as hold up her purse and keep hold of the 6-year-old. Something she took note of needing to figure out if JJ was going to be like this, for however long it turned out to be.

Once inside she was met with Garcia sprawled out on her sofa, a bottle of wine half drunk with an empty glass on the coffee table. Her glasses askew on her face, while she snored lightly. Emily tried not to chuckle; she knew there was no way she was getting the sleeping agent into a guest room. Once she'd had a couple of glasses of wine, she became such a heavy sleeper. She remembered the night herself and JJ had learnt that, and they practically dragged her to a guest bedroom, while she snoozed, the whole way. She locked her door setting her alarm and headed up to her bedroom.

She lay JJ on her bed, not wanting to leave her alone tonight, not sure if the small girl was going to wake unsure of her surroundings, this way if Emily was here next to her, she would feel safer and know where she was. She sighed. Emily knew she needed to be sure of herself and confident in her abilities, because JJ's future held so much uncertainty, she had to be the one strong constant to hopefully make things easier.

She tucked JJ in before getting ready for bed herself quickly. Showering could wait till tomorrow. She was exhausted. She hadn't done too much but she had sat through every exam JJ had gone through the MRI, X-ray, countless blood tests, a physical, answering hundreds of questions just so they knew the basics of what they were dealing with. She had been drained the moment she looked at the list, never mind JJ who had to endure them. Once settled in bed she looked at her friend and took a moment just to think about what was going to happen over the next few weeks, months, maybe even years if they didn't find a way to turn JJ back. She was already noticing the little things changing in her friend. Her uncontrollable emotions, the thing with the blanket, which was still held tightly in her fist, being comforted with the rock and walk, her inability to read. There was so much JJ was losing control of and Emily noticed it all. She knew her own life was about to change. It changed when Jack came into her life, but he was only over every other weekend, now she was about to be responsible for a child every day, for who knows how long. She was going to need to learn how to be mother figure.

Before she slept, she sent a couple texts. One to Garcia letting her know they were in bed just in case she woke before they did. Although highly unlikely. And one to Hotch letting him know they were home and in bed. She put down her phone and rolled over wrapping her arm round JJ. Closing her eyes and letting herself finally rest after the case which they weren't allowed to finish.

Morning came around all to quickly in Emily's home. Especially when morning was at 6am, only 5 hours after she had gotten home. Due to the massive amounts of sleep JJ had gotten since the jet, Emily shouldn't have been surprised at the early wake up call. The little body was bursting with energy. It was more energy than JJ ever felt she had, had. The new body she was in stored energy so much better than her 26-year-old one which was worn.

"Emy, Emy, Emy." JJ said her hands rocking Emily's body as she bounced on her knees excitedly. "Wake up come on." She continued with her energy fuel mind.

"What time is it?" Emily groaned as she rolled to grab her phone. She picked it up letting out another groan when she saw the time. JJ scrambled back, moving to the edge of the bed. Unsure what she was feeling about her actions moments earlier.

Emily sat up looked at JJ whose whole demeanour had changed, within only seconds. "What's wrong?" she asked sitting up quickly worried something had happened. Although part of her brain was telling her to stop worrying so much so quickly, nothing had happened JJ had been in her sight while her demeanour changed. Of course, it just led to her panicking more worrying whether she had caused this changed in the little blonde. Worrying now if she was going to be terrible at his whole looking after her friend thing. She pulled her friend in close brushing the wild hair off her face. She made a mental note, to plait JJ's hair before bed if this was how it was every morning. But she put that to the back of her mind for now while she waited for some kind of response from the child.

JJ sighed. She couldn't believe she had let herself go that much to wake her friend up so early. So, moving away seemed like the best option. Yet when Emily pulled her in, as much as she was frightened, she also felt something else. There was a warmth to Emily that made her feel weirdly safe. Something about her that made her small body feel so protected in her arms. So, she huffed slightly wanting to push away all her feelings and emotions, trying to figure out the best way to answer Emily's question. What was wrong? Should she say how when she heard Emily groans of unhappiness, her body wanted to jump 100ft away from her. Should she say how she originally wanted to wake Emily up so they could cuddle and have a movie marathon to forget everything. Should she tell Emily how when she decided to wake her up, she never meant to act so wild and childlike, she only intended to give her a soft shake. What was the right answer?

"I don't know." JJ settled for as she relaxed into the motherly touch she had longed for, for so long. That she had been neglected from as a kid.

"Jayje, come on." The brunette protested. Adult or child, JJ could be stubborn.

JJ pouted looking down to avoid Emily's eyes. It was easier to confess things if she wasn't being stared at. It was like she could pretend no one else was there. "Things are just really weird. I didn't mean to wake you up like that I just felt so full of energy and it was just happening. I'm sorry." She mumbled softly playing with sheets which were crumpled on Emily. Ones she was currently on top of.

The uncertainty and fear could be heard in the mumbles. Emily though desperate to know why didn't push anymore. There were so many reasons for the young blondes behaviour that she didn't need that answer right now. Instead, she placed a kiss on the frizzy hair and turned JJ, so she was facing her. "Don't worry about it short stack." Emily smiled booping her finger on the small nose. And chuckling as it scrunched up at the action. "How bout, we try wake up sleeping beauty who's probably still snoring on my sofa get ready and go out for an early breakfast before we head into the office."

"Only as long as I get coffee." JJ said crossing her arms over her chest and raising an eyebrow. Every morning since being in college she'd had a cup of coffee. It got her ready for the day, it woke her u and helped her focus, and today though she had no idea what the day held she wanted to be prepared.

"Should you even have…"

"I do not care." JJ pouted and frowned. "I want my coffee; I need my coffee." She was almost begging. She knew she was far to small to even reach the coffee machine, and if she was to some how get to a coffee shop, they wouldn't serve someone in her current body. So, Emily would be her only way to get what she wanted. If she had to beg she would do.

"Alright, well if you're bouncing off the walls because you've had too much caffeine, I'm locking you in a room until you crash." Emily was serious. JJ of caffeine was usually someone who was calm, collected, and ready to deal with the world, but a 6-year-old JJ of caffeine, well, she was sure it was a recipe for disaster.

"Deal." JJ laughed as she shook Emily's hand securing the deal and the maneuverer her short stature off the tall king-sized bed. Emily following quickly after her, so they could go wake their friend who was still on the sofa.

JJ stood by Garcia's head; Emily sat in a chair just watching a smirk across her lips. She couldn't wait to see how their bubbly friend reacted to a small JJ. Over video call she had been so excited, so in person she could only imagine. JJ looked over at Emily with a frown which seemed to keep finding its way back to her face this morning. She bit her lip and looked back at Garcia. She corrected her glasses first, which were lopsided on her face. Then pursed her lips. She was not looking forward to this.

"Pen, wake up." JJ said shaking her blonde friend awake.

Penelope let out a groan and a huff as she woke, making JJ take a couple steps back. The Technical analyst swung her body round sitting up mumbling to herself, something which no one understood. Once her vision cleared, she looked to the tiny child and Emily who was sat arms resting on either arm of the chair and half a smirk still over her lips. "This is…" Garcia asked pointing to JJ.

Both the girls nodded.

Garcia let out an almighty squeal. She pulled the little blonde into her arms and wrapped them round her giving her the biggest hug she could muster. "Oh, my goodness." She squealed loudly in JJ's ear. "You are the cutest little girl I ever did see." She said, she pushed JJ back so she could take another look at the new JJ, but then pulled her back in for a hug.

"I can't breathe." The child gasped dramatically trying to push off her older friend.

"Oh sorry." They both watched as JJ quickly ran away, though Emily didn't expect for JJ to start climbing on her lap and grabbing one of her arms wrapping it round her small frame in an attempt to hide. Neither said anything about her actions, instead Emily relax into the hold, taking her other arm and wrapping it round her friend and Garcia stood up to stretch. "Breakfast anyone?"

The three BAU ladies walked into the office by 8:50am, arriving a little early for work. Once Garcia had woke up enough, she drove home to get a shower and get dressed while Emily and JJ did the same at Prentiss home. JJ was less than happy at the collection of clothes that had been bought by their friend. Going through the bags she found everything was covered in sequins, bright patterns, or embroidery. Even some of the underwear that had been bought were illuminous colors. There was a lot of huffing and puffing as they went through trying to find something for JJ to wear. Luckily, they found denim overalls with a little bit of embroidery on the front pocket, of flowers, and then a black top, which had sequins but were able to be covered by the front of the overalls. It was the most normal outfit they could find. They were going to do some online shopping later, and get some JJ approved styled outfits.

Before heading into work JJ and Emily met back up with Garcia. They had gone out for breakfast, in their regular spot, and as promised JJ got her coffee, the same she usually ordered, however now she was so small the coffee looked so big in comparison and both older agents were worried as she guzzled it down sighing in relief. Now they were realising their mistake. That even through JJ did still have some of her adult mind in there, her body was very much that of a child's and would react to things exactly as a 6-year-olds would. So, as they headed towards the glass doors and JJ's whole body seemed to be shaking and bouncing as she walked. Their wide eyes never leaving her.

"Emily maybe that coffee wasn't such a good idea." Garcia muttered as she watched JJ's arms swing much more dramatically as she walked towards the main doors, after just exiting the elevator.

"I know." Emily sighed brushing her bangs to the side so she could see a little better. They seemed to have grown so much overnight, she needed to get them cut again she thought as she turned to Garcia and watched JJ, not wanting her to hear their conversation just yet. "But it's her body. She's still got her adult mind; she needs to learn what she can and can't deal with now in this new body. And I would feel awful if I took away some of her control while she still has it."

"Look at her she's shaking." The technical analyst raised her eyebrow at her friend as they stood in the middle of the hallway leading to the glass doors. As much as she enjoyed hyperactive children. She couldn't deny that she was worried.

"I know." Emily watched as Garcia walked ahead, she was scheduled to meet with Hotch as soon as she got in. Leaving Emily to deal with JJ. "Jayje come here." She said as she quickened her pace to meet the girl halfway, she took her hand leading her into JJ's what would now be her former office.

"Em, what's up?" The brunette knelt down in front of JJ, and looked over her. She held in her laugh because though she was worried about the effect caffeine was having on the small body, there was some slight humour to it. She couldn't help but remember the one time she had ever seen JJ have too much coffee, she got the shakes so bad she could barely hold her Pen and Rossi had to deal with media. Everyone had teased her for weeks. That time she had well over 8 cups of coffee that day, now she couldn't even hand one cup.

Putting her bag down and leaning back on her heels Emily took one of JJ's shaking hands. "You okay?"

"Yeah." JJ nodded, repeatedly. "I think I know why its bad for kids to have coffee." She chuckled nervously and began to rock back and forth on her feet. Toe to heel, toe to heel. Over and over.

"Really?"

"Yeah, I feel like I'm about to explode." She said raising her voice slighting, as if to imitate the explosion she was feeling.

Emily couldn't help but laugh at how eccentric the blonde was being. "Alright, well…" She paused and looked round JJ's office, it wasn't often anyone, but the blonde came in here, she usually dropped off case files and then picked them up at the end of the day. She looked at the files piled high, all waiting for someone to sort through. Ones that J wouldn't be doing until she was back to herself. She then looked to her best friend, who was still rocking on her feet and now swinging the arm that Emily had hold of rocking both their arms. "…How about we hang around in here, you can…" she paused to chuckle at JJ again. "… you can do whatever you gotta do to get out all this energy and I'll get on with some work."

"Yeah okay." Their hands separated, and as Emily stood to leave the room, JJ hopped on her desk chair and began to spin round, Emily just laughed and headed to get her files from her desk.

For a couple hours the two had stayed secluded in the office, not long after Emily got back from grabbing her case files, JJ had announced she had a tummy ache and felt sick, and as much as the newly de-aged agent wanted to help with the cases, and do her job, she was ordered by Emily to lay down on the small sofa in her office, which at first was buried underneath boxes and files. Fairly soon after laying down JJ managed to go to sleep, leaving Emily to, for once, enjoy some peace and quiet while she did her work. Where she actually managed to get a lot of work done, in just a couple of hours.

A knock on the door made her lift her head. "Hey Hotch." She smiled, before looking back to her papers finishing the sentence before giving her boss and boyfriend her full attention as he grabbed the chair sitting across from her. "This is a little different." She said gesturing to the obvious fact usually their positions were reversed.

"It is." He laughed "How are things going with JJ?"

They both looked over to the former agent, "Well, she's doing okay. It's all going to be a big adjustment period. She's going to need to learn to listen to her new body and figure out what she can and can't do. How are things going with the case?" JJ was still fast asleep on the sofa, she lay on her side, her face buried into the cushions, her legs curled up and arms together under her head, making her look even smaller. If that was even possible.

"As of this morning still nothing," The unit chief said with a slight grimace. It was frustrating when they worked so hard and couldn't make any progress on the case. Though he knew it would make it that much more satisfying when they finally did catch the unsub. "It's looking like we spooked the Unsub and they might have moved, but they are going to stick around for another week to see if anything pops up. In regard to JJ, we are all having a meeting later, adding her to the victim profile to see if there was anything that matches." Hotch wasn't looking forward to the meeting later, he had already gone through JJ's life, and now everyone else was going to have to go through it and see if they could find anything of use to the case. He knew from experience it wasn't pleasant having your co-workers and friends go through your life. But it had to be done.

"Good, hopefully we'll find something more, and find out how to turn her back. Just watching her, you can see the battle that's going on, she still is very much herself, but its like there's a load of switches and she's going between being scared, angry, letting go and being a child, being herself, and sleeping. I just hope whatever happens she is able to be happy."

"Well, I've actually brought you her file." Emily noticed the chunky file Hotch pulled up from the floor, she hadn't seen it before when he came in. She was a little distracted, but she cursed herself slightly. She felt part of her job was to be aware and alert at all times. Ignoring her thoughts for a moment she turned back to Hotch, listening to what he had to say. "I've had Garcia all morning working sorting out her identity so she's official. I've included it in there, I've gone through everything and written a summary and listed anything important. The rest is just further detail, that you may or may not need." He pushed the file forward watching as Emily's hand picked it up, testing the weight of the thing as she did and then placed it over the file she had been working on.

"Thanks. I'll read over it before she wakes up." Meaning the moment Hotch walked out the door that file would be open, and she'd read as much as she could handle.

"Okay, if you need anything you know where I am."

"I do." Emily said in a slight whisper. Taking a moment to take in everything and allow herself a couple of seconds just to be and look at her boyfriend without noticing the world around them. To acknowledge, how even though he had a tough exterior, he actually was a teddy bear. At least around her anyway.

Softly so not to break the current calm that was in the atmosphere Hotch spoke. His usual harsh voice full of love and care. "I'm going to head back."

"I'll come say bye before we leave."

"Okay." Hotch smiled. He leaned over the desk placing a quick peck on his girlfriend's lips with a smile. "Love you." He said softly as he stood straightening his suit jacket before heading to the door.

"Love you too." Emily smiled.

She pulled the papers out the folder mentally preparing herself. The team never learned much about JJ's past, they knew her sister committed suicide when she was just 11 and she was estranged from her family. Oh, and that she loved butterflies. She gave her new identity a quick read over. She was now Jennifer Jade Prentiss. Born and raised in Virginia and has been home schooled so far. She quickly flicked to the next page, not sure what to expect.

Overall Summary.

Jennifer Jade Jareau was born in Allegheny General Hospital. Parents Sandra and Frank Jareau. Attended Spring Hill Elementary from Pre-K through to 6th Grade, where multiple reports to Child Protective Services (CPS) were made. Miss Jareau attended school with a new ailment almost bi-weekly. See medical summary for some evidence. Only 2 weeks after her 11th birthday her sister, Rosaline Ruby Jareau, aged 17 killed herself using her fathers razor blades. Miss J. Jareau found her the following morning. CPS were made aware, they discovered evidence of abuse on Miss R. Jareau, and immediately removed Miss J. Jareau from the care of her parents. After an exam, it was found Miss J. Jareau too had suffered physical abuse at the hands of her parents. Upon completing rape kit, it was unclear as to if sexual abuse had been a factor. Both parents served 10 years in prison and gave up their rights to their children, and upon returning to society both were involved in a car wreck killing them both. Miss J. Jareau went into the foster care system until she was 18, living with 15 different families. Reasons for moving homes ranged from abuse, neglect, running away, and death of the main carer. Additional family members all seem to be unreachable or have passed away. Attended City Charter High School where she was in regular attendance with their guidance councillor. At 16 she took a leave of absence for 6 months, due to medical reasons. (See medical summary) and began therapy shortly before returning. Upon leaving school she attended Georgetown university on a soccer scholarship where she worked hard to attend the FBI academy and becoming an agent at the BAU by 24.

Emily wiped the tear under eye. She never usually let things get to her this much but knowing now what her friend had been through and it made sense now as to why JJ was the way she was. Why she was so passionate about her work in helping others and always giving her time to families. She wondered if JJ reverted would this all affect the child, but she would be unable to express it properly or would she forget it? Would these things happen to JJ as though her body was reliving what had happened? All questions she wanted answers too but knew she could actually get them from anyone. There was a rush of shame and guilt in her that she didn't see these things before. How did she not know how one of her best friends had been through this. She closed the file. She'd ready the important stuff, she now knew why JJ had been weird this morning, and she knew what to expect and what she could and couldn't do. She stood up and walked over to the sofa. Slowly and carefully, she lifted JJ laying her back in her arms.

JJ stirred and woke up frowning at Emily. She could see she'd cried a little. "What's wrong?" She asked her voice had a slight squeak to it, probably from just waking up.

The brunette wiped under her eyes with her thumb and let out a huff preparing her voice, so it didn't waiver as she spoke. "Nothing." She sighed. "Just no matter what happens with this whole situation, know you are my best friend and I love you so much."

"I love you too Em." JJ leaned up planting a kiss on the agents cheek before letting her head rest on her chest, both sitting silently for a while.

This whole thing was messed up and if there was one thing everyone wanted, was for JJ to be back too normal. But unfortunately, as the doctor had stated it could be while before that happened. For Emily, she worried more and more each passing minute. She could see her best friend slowly slipping away. She noticed the changes, how JJ clung, the excessive sleep, the way she spoke seemed to be getting younger. All little things over the past 24 hours, but if that much could change in 24 hours, by the end of the week would any of their adult friend be there, or would she be fully reverted into a child, and she would officially become mom to a 6-year-old. The future was so uncertain, and all Emily wanted to do right now was be wrapped in her boyfriends arms and forget any of this happened. She wanted to forget what she read. She wanted to forget this last case and pretend she wasn't about the loose the person who had welcomed her to the team with open arms and had given her the confidence to do something about her feelings with Hotch. Any secrets the two shared would be no more, the girls nights gone. It was weird to her to be so affected by someone turning into a child, but JJ had been her first female friend. Though she had Garcia it wouldn't be the same. The profiler prayed that soon enough someone would figure out a way to turn JJ back to herself.
