Chapter 19: Ally or Rival?
"What the hell are you doing here?" I ask angrily. Chase looks down at the ground before returning to lock eyes with me.
"Look, I know this looks bad-" Chase says before I cut him off.
"You think?" I say angrily.
"I'm sorry, okay? I figured out that Steve was using me." Chase says.
"What?" I ask.
"He was the one who made those posts, not you. He made me hate you. He knew all my weak points and that's how he was able to convince me to attack you." Chase says.
"What? You attacked him?" Sensei Lawrence asks.
"Y…yeah. When I found out the truth, Cobra Kai beat me up. The only reason I'm here is because Sensei Lawrence convinced me to join Eagle Fang." Chase says.
"I'm sorry James. I didn't know the history between you two." Sensei Lawrence says.
"It's fine. It's not you I'm mad at." I say.
"James, maybe you should give him a chance." Miguel suggests.
"What? Are you seriously siding with this guy?" I ask.
"No, I'm not siding with anyone. I'm also not excusing Chase's actions. But why would he lie about all of this?" Miguel asks.
"I don't know. I just know that he can't be trusted." I say.
"You didn't trust Hawk at first, but look at how he turned out." Miguel points out. I think about this before choosing my next words.
"I won't do anything as long as you and Sensei Lawrence keep a very close eye on him. If he bullies anyone, or you see him hanging out with someone from Cobra Kai, he's done." I say.
"Okay, it's a deal." Miguel says. I glare at Chase one more time before I leave.
Third Person POV:
"What the hell? Why didn't you tell me about any of this?" Johnny asks Chase.
"I didn't want anyone to know all the bad things I did." Chase admits.
"You know I don't tolerate assholes." Johnny says.
"I know that, and that's not who I am anymore. You have to trust me." Chase says.
"Sensei, I don't think he's lying. It's just a gut feeling." Miguel says. Johnny gets very close to Chase's face.
"You better be telling the truth." Johnny says.
"I am. I want Cobra Kai gone just as much as everyone else." Chase says. Johnny then backs away.
Later…
Chase is walking over to his car after class when he gets an idea. He quickly runs over to Miguel before he leaves.
"Hey, I think I know of a way to make it up to James. Just promise me, when I do it, you'll have my back." Chase says.
"Yeah, I will." Miguel says.
James's POV:
I walk into school and immediately notice that the atmosphere is different. A kid walks over to me.
"Do you know who Chase is?" He asks.
"Uh, yeah." I say confused. As I walk further into the school, I notice that everyone seems to be looking at me. Not with contempt, but with confusion. That's when I see Cobra Kai approaching me. Steve is leading the charge and he looks pissed off. Following him is Kyler and…Tory?! I thought Sam said she was kicked out of school.
"Just because one little thing went right for you, doesn't mean you won." Steve says.
"Uh, to be honest, I have no idea what you're talking about." I say.
"You know exactly what happened, asshole!" Steve shouts.
"Steve, stop!" A voice shouts. I turn around to see Chase. "I'm the one who posted the video. You want someone to be mad at? Be mad at me." Chase says. Steve is now fuming.
"You two…you better watch your backs." Steve says. He then directs his attention to me.
"I'm gonna destroy you at the tournament. You won't be able to get a single point." Steve says. He then turns his attention to Chase.
"You're not even in a karate dojo. So giving you a beat down will be easy." Steve says.
"You might wanna get your facts straight. You're looking at a member of Eagle Fang Karate." Chase says. This makes Steve even more furious.
"Then I guess I'll destroy you at the tournament as well." Steve says.
"And it's not just Steve you have to worry about." Kyler says while cracking his knuckles.
"Pretty sure I kicked you in the face a few days ago." Chase says. As I am glaring at Steve and Chase is glaring at Kyler, a few familiar faces show up. Miguel, Sam, Demetri, and Eli approach us.
"You guys better back off." Sam says while glaring at Tory.
"Let's go." Tory says. However, Steve doesn't listen.
"You guys think you can beat us? Let's see…you have a pussy, a freak, a nerd, a bitch, and a former cripple. I wonder who's gonna win." Steve says. I can see the look in Miguel and Sam's eyes. They look pissed off. Eli looks kinda nervous.
"Come on." Tory says. Steve finally walks away. After the Cobras leave, I turn to Chase.
"So…what did you do?" I ask.
"All I did was post a video in great length going over everything Steve has done. First, I talked about how he's been harassing you for months, including that he beat you up in an alleyway. That explains why you attacked him at the drive in. Then I talked about how I overheard him saying that he made the posts on your account and that he beat me up. I then ended the video saying that I would get proof." Chase says.
"Okay…what's the catch?" I say, not trusting Chase.
"Nothing. I got the proof I need now. I knew that Steve would react the way he did, so I recorded that entire conversation." Chase says while pulling out his phone.
"Why are you doing all of this?" I ask, not wanting to thank him.
"Because I realized that Steve is the villain, not you. Now, everyone will see how psychotic he really is." Chase says.
Third Person POV:
Chase had uploaded Steve's threats online. All the people who had hated James had now turned their attention to Steve. Steve was currently releasing all his anger in the Cobra Kai dojo.
"You look…disturbed. What happened?" Terry Silver asks.
"These assholes, James and Chase, are turning everyone at school against me." Steve says. Terry just laughs. "What's so funny?" Steve asks.
"You've proven to be a valuable member of Cobra Kai. I think it's time to further your training." Terry says.
"Further it? What else is there?" Steve asks. Terry smiles.
"I think it's time you mastered the Quicksilver method." Terry says. Steve is now smiling as well.
