A/N: Thank you so much for still being there! I'm happy to see some of you are still around and still interested in this story. This one is going to be an interesting chapter ;-) Don't say I didn't warn you...
The title of the last chapter is a tagline from my all-time favorite TV show, The X-Files. Dana Scully was my first crush (although I did not realize that until I was waaaay older) and The X-Files was the first show that turned me onto Fanfiction. My English was not yet good enough to write stories, but I sure read a bunch of them.
Chapter 6: Undisclosed desires
It had been two weeks since Carlos Torres had miraculously returned. The newspapers had written all about how the man was rescued by Seattle PD. Carlos had been very forthcoming to the police and it had led to some low-level drug runners being arrested. They had been found in the exact building Arizona had encountered Carlos that night. It all seemed to turn out perfect.
The police Captain had personally congratulated Arizona on the good news and she had been promoted to Detective as a result. Unfortunately, she could not feel proud of this win. Yes, she had wanted this for a long time, but she knew it was all based on lies.
Carlos Torres knew exactly who had taken him and he was going to handle it on his own. And there was nothing Arizona could do about it. Since vampires were a vicious, unruly bunch in her eyes, she figured the people responsible would probably be found murdered somewhere. Also, probably murdered by Carlos himself. And he would never be held accountable for it.
It was unfair.
And it made her blood boil.
It also made her question so many things she had taken for facts in life. How many times had the public been duped because the vampire or angel community was involved? And who was involved? The editor at the newspaper? The mayor? Hell, how many other secret communities were there? Werewolves? Leprechauns? Pixies? The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
Arizona was not one to externalize her anger. The ball of lava in the pit of her stomach, that had started growing when she found out about Carlos and Callie, had been festering inside of her. Slowly growing and simmering. She had now resorted to drowning herself in work to try and handle the increasing weight of it.
Since she had moved to a different department to join the homicide team, there was a lot of new work to be done. She had happily taken over some menial tasks and cold case files from her new co-workers. It had increased her popularity and given her the chance to clock some serious overtime. This was the only thing that did feel fair about her new role.
For two weeks straight, she had brushed off her friends with the excuse she needed to work. She had ignored her grandmother's dinner invitations, not wanting to risk having to talk about her feelings.
What she had also ignored, were the calls that had come in from Callie Torres. The woman had tried calling various times, but Arizona had made the receptionist brush her off with lame excuses. She had to give it to Callie, the dark-haired woman was persistent. Arizona figured it was probably because she always got what she wanted. And Arizona did not intend on giving the woman the light of day. It had felt like a big relief that Callie did seem to know how to take a hint and the calls had stopped a couple of days ago.
But no matter how deep she dug herself into case files and piles of work, she could not get her mind to stop. There had been so much information she still had to digest, so many things she was being forced to accept. But she just could not do it. And it made her angry.
Angry, because she had no control. Angry, because her grandmother had omitted so much vital information from her for so long and had thought that was acceptable. And most of all angry, because her little infatuation with Calliope Torres had not died down. Even now she knew Callie was bad news, her mind often wandered towards the enigmatic woman.
While driving home, she was stewing in her anger because her boss had made her take the weekend off. If wanting to work was no longer accepted, what the hell would be? He had claimed she needed to take some time to get her head straight. It made her angry because he was right. And that was infuriating.
When she arrived at her house, an all too familiar car was parked on her driveway. With an equally as familiar form casually leaning against it. Arizona bit her lip and groaned as she parked her car in front of her house. Her heart was pounding in her chest, blood rushing through her veins. How the hell had Callie found out her address?
But deep down, she was glad the woman had shown up. And she hoped, with all her might, Callie would say something to tick her off. Anything that could make her pounce and tear into the woman unabashedly. She needed something to make her explode so she could get rid of all this toxic tension in her body. And Callie Torres was the perfect reason.
"Hey stranger," Callie said with a flirtatious smile, oblivious to Arizona's state of mind. Her face had lit up the moment their eyes connected.
Callie had always felt Arizona had been easy on the eye. But now she knew who, or better yet, what the other woman was, her desirability had skyrocketed. And she had to admit, this was a chase that made her higher than any drug she had ever been on. So far, she had been unsuccessful since the woman did not even want to talk to her. But she would make her. Arizona was not the only one who had found out some new truths. Callie felt she deserved a chance to explain herself and to ask Arizona her questions.
The way Callie's eyes shamelessly ran over her body, should have made Arizona angrier, but instead, it ignited a different kind of fire within her. The blonde was forcing herself to ignore that though because she was still too busy being angry.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, her voice not sounding very accommodating.
The dark-haired woman pursed her lips and chose to ignore the not-so-friendly tone that was being spat at her. "If Mohammed won't come to the mountain…." She replied with a shrug.
Arizona rolled her eyes, not able to appreciate Callie's religious joke. "Inside," she said through her teeth, not wanting a confrontation on her front lawn for the whole neighborhood to see.
This time, Callie did acknowledge the unfriendly tone. "Bossy much?" She murmured as she followed Arizona into her house. After being unsuccessful in reaching Arizona by phone, she paid a visit to the blonde's grandmother. The elder Robbins had, much to her surprise, given her Arizona's address. She had never been here before and had just gone here on a whim, waiting for the blonde to come home. It had taken about an hour of sitting in her car, but she had felt the woman coming from a mile away and had gotten out, leaning against her car as if she had only just shown up.
Callie still felt a little stupid though. She was not the type to chase someone, she usually had to do very little to get other people's attention. Add that to the fact that Arizona had already made her do so many things she normally would not do. It was getting slightly annoying, but the desire to see the other woman again had been far greater. So, here she was.
Arizona could feel her anger boiling under the surface and she just needed one wrong remark from Callie to tear into her. She hoped the woman would say something, anything, to justify the explosion she knew was about to come.
The taller woman stepped into the hallway and waited for Arizona to close the door behind her. Once they were in the privacy of the home, she immediately wrapped her arms around Arizona in a tight hug. She knew she needed to surprise the woman because Arizona would probably not allow this had she asked. While she was waiting for Arizona to come home, she had had plenty of time to think about how she was going to tackle this. But that went straight out of the window the second she got in the vicinity of the blonde.
She just had to thank Arizona for everything she had done for her, knowingly and unknowingly. "Thank you," she said, smiling when she felt the smaller woman's body relax in her arms. "Thank you for not listening to me and finding my father."
Callie then quickly retreated and pushed Arizona back until she hit the wall of her hallway. It was not forceful, but hard enough to overwhelm Arizona. "And fuck you," she added. "Fuck you for not listening to me. The next time I tell you to trust me and leave…" she paused, her eyes searching Arizona's. Making sure she had her full attention, but also secretly giving away how concerned she had been for the blonde. "Trust me and leave." She finished her sentence and ended up staring into Arizona's cool blue eyes, not backing down.
Arizona had expected for them to end up in a shouting match, she had even hoped for it. But things had gone very differently and Callie had once again caught her completely off guard. Feeling the taller woman's arms wrapped around her, made some of the anger dissipate. Hearing her voice, soft and gentle, almost purring into her ears, made her weak in the knees.
And then, all of a sudden, the comfort was gone and she was being pushed around, literally. The passion and power that oozed from Callie were probably meant to scare her into submission, but instead, it had excited Arizona and egged her on to defy the woman. Who did she think she was, trying to control her in her own house? This was her house.
The other fire that had slowly started burning from the moment she laid eyes on Callie was taking over from the anger. With every move Callie made, with every breath she took, she fueled that fire within Arizona. Before the blonde even properly realized what she was doing, she grabbed hold of Callie's head and pulled her closer, forcefully pressing her lips against the taller woman's.
Caught completely off guard, Callie gasped. It took her a few seconds to catch up, but she then happily parted her lips for Arizona's probing tongue to enter. Within one swift move, the blonde switched their positions and forcefully pressed the lawyer's body against the wall with her own. Their kiss was sloppy, hungry, and very passionate.
Arizona leaned back, panting slightly. "Fuck you," she said, her stare intense and fixated on Callie's now darkening eyes. "Fuck you for lying to me," she added before moving back in and kissing the other woman again, hard.
The feelings the kiss ignited within her had completely overwhelmed Callie. The feel of Arizona's lips, the feel of her tongue possessing her mouth, and the feel of the blonde's body against hers, it was mesmerizing. She could feel the electricity in the air and she could feel the power and excitement coming from the other woman. Arizona knew who she was, what she was, and still, she had made a move on her. It was exhilarating. She felt she was about to ride a high she would never forget. A high no kind of drug could beat.
Arizona's last words took a moment to sink in, but when they did she leaned back from the kiss. She was still painfully aware of Arizona's body deliciously pressed against hers, and of how she could feel the blonde's heartbeat. "Whoa, whoa," she said, her voice raspy from pure excitement. "I have done a lot of things, but lying is not one of them. I have never lied to you."
The dark-haired woman's words hung in the air like a thick fog and once again they were at an impasse, a staring contest where neither woman would back down.
Even though she had been the one to initiate the kiss, Arizona had been equally as overwhelmed by it as Callie. The feel of the woman's curves, her body pressed against Arizona's own, was heavenly. So much so, that she was quickly losing herself in the other woman. The power surge she felt from controlling the other woman, almost literally trying to kiss her into submission, was like nothing she had ever experienced before. All Arizona knew was that she wanted more of it. Her body craved it like it craved oxygen.
She would probably not recognize herself if she could watch herself from a distance. She was being forceful and letting her desire lead her. It was very unlike her. And she was doing it for all the wrong reasons. But fuck, it was exciting and so fucking gratifying. It was not exactly how she had planned to get rid of her anger, but it sure was working. She could also feel Callie was still a happy participant, so she did not back down. The more room Callie gave her, the more adventurous she felt herself get.
"Show me," Arizona said, her words coming out in pants as she was trying to catch her breath. Her eyes were focused on Callie's lips.
"No," Callie replied, immediately catching on to what Arizona meant. The blonde knowing who she was, was one thing. But asking her to bare herself just for show, was just not done.
Arizona groaned in frustration and lashed out at Callie by forcefully kissing her again. Her anger and frustration were turning into pure lust and raw hunger, something she could not control or ignore right now. So, she did all she could do and gave in to her desire. They had been traipsing around each other, both of them hiding who they were. But now it was all out there, there were no more secrets. And the fact that they probably should not be doing this, that Callie was making her break yet another rule, only added to her excitement.
The moan that left Callie's throat made Arizona even bolder, her hands starting to roam over the taller woman's body. Her hands wandered down and landed on Callie's shapely behind. She gave a not-so-gentle squeeze, effectively grinding the other woman's pelvis against hers.
This time Callie pulled back from the kiss, her lips were swollen and still slightly parted. She was trying to catch her breath and use the moment to check up on Arizona. They were about to reach the point of no return and she needed confirmation to let herself get past that point. The look Arizona gave her like she was a stalked prey, could be felt throughout her whole body. It went straight to the pit of her stomach and exploded into fireworks of desire spreading a gush of warmth all over.
She feverishly leaned forward and latched onto Arizona's neck, groaning softly as her lips connected with the woman's fair skin. She opened her mouth and tentatively ran her tongue over Arizona's pulse point. She could feel the blood rushing through the other woman's veins through the tip of her tongue and let that feeling wash over her. Her whole being started dancing to the beat of Arizona's pulse and Callie was lost.
"Don't you fucking bite me," Arizona growled, her voice husky from pure lust.
Callie could not help but chuckle out loud. She turned her gaze to the woman in front of her, who was still pushing her against the wall. "You wish," she said slowly, taunting the other woman. She unconsciously bared her teeth, showing off her fangs. She had never been in this state of arousal before where she had been unable to control her teeth. Unable to control her urges.
Arizona's eyes went wide for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. She was not scared of seeing Callie in her true form and she had expected as much. What she had not expected was the rush of excitement she felt at seeing the woman in her current state. Right now, Arizona was in complete control. Callie was at her strongest, but at the same time, she was at her most vulnerable.
Calliope Torres was dangerous, but she was also intelligent and beautiful. She challenged Arizona like no other woman had done before. She could walk away, like she probably should, but that was the furthest thing from her mind right now. Arizona only wanted more.
So, instead of backing down, like she should and like she would have done had she been in full control of herself, Arizona let desire guide her and she leaned in again. This time, her lips gently pressed against Callie's and she carefully slipped out her tongue, running it over the now bared fangs.
The fact that the heated passion had made her lose control and bare herself to Arizona quickly caught up with Callie. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she did the only thing she could do, wait for the other woman to react. She had no idea what to expect and as scary as it was, it also skyrocketed her desire. She could not remember ever having been this horny in her life.
Feeling the other woman's tongue run over her fangs sent a shiver down her spine, leaving her unable to suppress a soft moan coming from deep within her. Afraid she would hurt the other woman, she closed her eyes, pulling all her focus back for a moment so she could retract her fangs. Once she had managed to do so, she opened her eyes again and looked deep into Arizona's, passion and lust oozing from her gaze. "Take me to your room," she ordered, her voice low and throaty.
Callie did not wait for a response and leaned in to kiss Arizona with a renewed fire. She had expected the blonde to obey and take her to wherever her room was, but to her surprise, they were not moving. She leaned back and tilted her head. "Now," she added, her voice almost a growl.
Instead of getting the desired reaction, Callie found herself staring at a chuckling Arizona. "My house, my rules," the blonde replied before she slowly pushed Callie's blazer down her arms. When it fell to the ground, she just as slowly unbuttoned the taller woman's white blouse, exposing smooth caramel-colored skin and a red silky bra. Arizona's throat went dry and she swallowed hard as Callie's body was slowly exposed to her. She was just mouthwatering perfect.
Callie was standing stock still, her arousal leaving her unable to move. She swallowed hard as she felt and watched Arizona undress her in an agonizingly slow fashion. Oh God, this was happening. And it was happening right here in Arizona's hallway. She was completely lost in the other woman and Arizona had not even touched her yet.
Arizona's fingertips traced the edges of Callie's bra as she took a moment to catch her breath. Touching the other woman's bare skin was pure electricity. It was sending jolts through her whole body, sparking excitement everywhere they went. Arizona had never felt as powerful and aroused as she did right now. She was reveling in the control she had over this strong woman and she was not going to give that up. She reached behind Callie's back and unclasped her bra, smirking as she heard the other woman gasp as the silky fabric hit the ground.
She unconsciously licked her lips upon seeing Callie's nipples standing at full attention. She had caused that. She latched onto a nipple, making Callie moan out loud at the sensation of the blonde's warm mouth around her hardened peak.
Callie's hands went into Arizona's hair and she firmly held her into place. "Fuck," she whimpered as she felt the other woman's tongue tease her nipple. Having Arizona's mouth on her was divine and she could not help but wonder how it would feel even lower, making herself even more excited than she had thought possible. "Arizona," she moaned out as she tilted her head back, hitting the wall with a soft thud.
As sudden as Arizona's mouth was on Callie's body, it had disappeared again. Her grip had not been tight enough and Arizona had easily maneuvered down. She was now kneeling in front of Callie, her face lined up with the other woman's belly button. She flicked out her tongue and traced it, causing goosebumps to appear all as Callie's abdominal muscles contracted. "Fuck, Arizona," was all Callie could whimper out.
She had had numerous encounters, but none of them were as erotic as this one. She just knew Arizona was going to spoil her for the rest of her life. She sucked in a deep breath of air as she felt the blonde slowly undo the zipper of her skirt. After stepping out of it, leaving her in just her panties and her heels, she looked down at the woman kneeling in front of her. She bit her lip in pure anticipation and took a mental picture of the blonde angel kneeling in front of her.
Arizona had seen her true form, but she did not seem fazed by it. It had felt so incredibly liberating to show herself to a non-vampire. While trying to regain her composure, she watched the blonde touch her legs and thighs, alternating between soft kisses and digging in her nails. Her arousal was quickly reaching its peak and she did not want to be teased anymore.
"Stop," Callie panted.
Arizona looked up, a twinkle in her eye. "You want me to stop?" She asked in the most innocent tone she could muster up. Her anger seemed to have been all forgotten and her eyes were filled with pure lust.
"No," the brunette growled. "I want you to stop teasing and…"
She did not get to finish her sentence, because Arizona yanked down her panties and did just what she wanted her to do. Callie could not contain a loud moan as the blonde's mouth immediately found the right spot. She had to really focus on standing up straight, holding on tightly to Arizona's blonde locks to keep herself grounded.
Her hips moved to the rhythm Arizona dictated, her whole body on fire. Just as she thought she was finally getting what she wanted from Arizona, the blonde stopped, which caused Callie to groan loudly. But, before she could speak up to complain though, Arizona stood up and pressed her body against hers again. The blonde kissed her hard and she could taste herself on the other woman's tongue, pulling her focus completely into the sloppy, passionate kiss.
Callie's eyes shot open when she suddenly felt two fingers enter her. "Oh, fuck," she moaned out into the kiss. Having Arizona inside her opened up a whole new world of pleasure and Callie could do nothing but let it wash over her as it came. She was complete putty in Arizona's capable hands and she was glad the blonde was keeping her steady and holding her up. She was pretty sure she would have slithered to the floor had the other woman not supported her.
This time, Arizona did not stop teasing until the other woman's body arched into her and convulsed against her. She watched Callie drown in her pleasure, pretty sure she would never forget how ridiculously beautiful the dark-haired woman looked right now. She did not stop her sweet torture there, curling her fingers inside Callie to extend her peak, letting her ride out the waves of her orgasm. While Arizona carefully watched Callie, she realized that all of her anger was gone. She felt liberated and it felt extremely cathartic to be controlling this strong woman. Arizona had her at her beck and call and she had done this to Callie, she had caused the woman to lose complete control. She had made Callie crumble right in front of her.
Arizona leaned forward and latched onto Callie's neck, not so gently sinking her teeth into the delicate skin. The growl she earned, slowly started pulling her back to reality. The growl reminded her of what Callie really was and she was slowly starting to realize she was going too far. She gently retreated her fingers, still reveling in the feel of Callie's walls clamping around them, almost telling her to not stop.
When Callie regained some of her composure, she grabbed Arizona's head and pulled her in for a long and languid kiss. She could not explain to the other woman what she had just felt and how she was feeling right now, so instead, she tried to pour it all into her kiss. She was also fueling the fire for what was about to happen next. She was adamant to provide Arizona with the same kind of power surge she had just gotten.
She wrapped her arms around Arizona and pulled her flush against her body, her excitement already starting back up again as she quickly regained strength in her body. She felt Arizona's body tense up, causing her lips to curl into a smile. Now it was her turn.
Where Arizona had returned the kiss at first, she now hesitated and leaned back. The blonde rested her forehead against Callie's and shook her head.
Callie once again took hold of Arizona's face and gently made the blonde face her so she could read her eyes. "Let me," she half growled, half croaked, which made it sound more like a question than a command. She was starting to feel desperate to return the favor. She needed Arizona to feel what she had just felt.
"No," came the short and breathy answer.
The taller woman swallowed hard, her eyes searching the cool blue pools in front of her. She gently pushed a strand of hair behind Arizona's ear. "You've seen me, now let me see you," she spoke softly.
"No," Arizona repeated, her voice a little more sure this time. "This is all wrong."
With all that had just occurred and with feeling Callie's climax on a level so deep and profound she did not know how to handle it, she had been pulled back into reality. She had pretty much almost violated Callie right here in her hallway, only because she had been angry with the woman. Yes, there was more behind it, but what she had just done was reckless and incredibly wrong.
Callie chuckled. "You can call it whatever you want, honey, but there was nothing wrong about what just happened." She tried to keep the mood light, but she was getting slightly scared. Rejection was something she did not deal with well.
Arizona sighed and stepped back, roughly running her hand through her hair. "I need you to leave." Her words surprised her as much as they did Callie and to her surprise when she saw a single tear leave the corner of the other woman's eye.
"Excuse me?" Callie said, not believing her ears. She suddenly felt very exposed and bent down to pull her panties back up.
The blonde bit her lip for a moment and Callie could have sworn she saw her eyes flash an apologetic look before turning cold. "You need to leave," Arizona repeated.
"Fuck no," came the forceful response. "You can yell at me, call me names for all I care, but I am not leaving. Not after…." She paused. What exactly had just happened? She was hardly going to call it the most profound sexual experience she had had in her life, not wanting to give Arizona that satisfaction right now. But she also was not going to leave. "You can't just fuck me like that and then toss me aside. Who the fuck do you think I am?"
Her words sounded extremely strong and the power they radiated almost knocked Arizona over, but Callie's face spoke a whole different language. Tears were coming from her eyes and it made Arizona swallow hard and cast her eyes to the ground. She was ashamed of herself. Ashamed of what she had just done. Ashamed of letting desire dictate her every move.
"I…" she paused for a moment, refusing to look at Callie. "I'm sorry."
The roles had reversed in a matter of seconds and Callie raised her eyebrow at Arizona. "Sorry for what?"
"I used you," Arizona said quietly. "I was so angry with you, so angry about everything that's happened…I…I couldn't control myself."
Where all the people in the world would probably be offended by this, Callie seemed to just smirk. She was finally catching on and was mostly relieved she was not the problem. "It's okay to lose control every once in a while, Arizona," she said while she picked up her blouse and skirt so she could dress herself again. "Don't you get tired of being in control all the time?"
Arizona looked up, almost confused. "That's such a vampire thing to say," she replied quietly.
"Says the miss goody two shoes angel," Callie quipped back with a smirk. "And just for the record, Arizona, I let you use me. Which technically means I was in control the whole time." She was lying through her teeth, but this half-truth was also meant to make herself feel better. Callie felt ashamed of how fast she had given up control to Arizona, it was embarrassing.
She tilted her head and bore her eyes into Arizona's, trying to force the blonde to acknowledge her. When she did not get the desired response, she tentatively put her hand on Arizona's cheek, ever so gently guiding her face up to face her. "It's okay, Arizona."
The blonde was not resisting and it felt like a small win in Callie's book. They seemed to be getting somewhere. She removed her hand and let out a soft sigh of relief when the blonde continued to acknowledge her.
"You're crying," Arizona replied matter-of-factly.
"No, I'm not," Callie fired back.
Arizona lifted her hand and gently wiped away a tear from Callie's cheek. "Then what is that?"
"Is this what you do?" Callie asked, trying to avoid answering the question. Truth was that Arizona had moved her to the core. Even though it had been a quick fuck and she had not had the pleasure to return the favor, something profound had been touched deep inside of her. Something she was not ready to admit.
For a moment, Arizona frowned, but when she caught on, she shook her head. "I assume you mean healing," she said quietly, her voice still giving away how embarrassed she was. "I did not heal you if that's what you think. I don't have that power."
"Ok, so you're just really good in bed," the taller woman joked, trying to keep things light.
Arizona could not help but let out a throaty laugh, which in turn caused Callie to join in. When their laughter died down, they both went back to staring at each other. Both at a loss for words.
"I'm sorry…I," Arizona broke the silence.
"Please, stop saying you're sorry," Callie said. "I hope you're not sorry for what you just did." She only hoped Arizona would want to do it again. And that she was allowed to return the favor.
A small smile crept up the blonde's lips and she shook her head. Right now, Callie was making her feel incredibly grounded. She had put so much pressure on herself to do the right thing, that she was starting to realize she had forgotten how to have fun. How to really live. Maybe Callie was right and losing control every once in a while was a good thing. At least the toxic anger she had felt was gone and, even though she was still turned on, a sense of peace and tranquility had washed over her. She was just not ready to admit that out loud, not yet.
Now she felt the air had been slightly cleared, Callie was ready to give Arizona the space she needed. "Do you still want me to leave?" She asked.
"No." And once again, Arizona surprised Callie, making her heart skip a beat once again. This woman was going to be the death of her.
"What do you want me to do, Arizona?" She asked, honestly at a loss right now.
Again, Arizona bit her lip before her eyes looked up to meet Callie's inquisitive stare. "Could you kiss me, please?"
The lawyer's lips curled into a smile and she gently pressed her lips against Arizona's. She did not deepen the kiss though. Instead, she leaned back, watching the blonde chase her lips with a smirk on her face. "I'm gonna let this one slide, Arizona. But you are playing with fire here. The next time we find ourselves in a situation like this, you better be prepared to finish what you start." She could not help but reach out and gently rub her thumb across Arizona's pink cheek. "Now, how about you tell me why you were angry with me?"
Even though Callie was teasing her slightly, Arizona understood the tenderness of the moment. And her words even excited her a little. It was a warning and it was definitely perceived as such, but it also held a promise.
Arizona motioned for Callie to follow her into the house. The least she could do is offer the woman a drink and let her sit down.
Callie watched Arizona's every move as she sat down on the very comfy sofa. Her body was still recovering from their hallway escapades and her mind was slowly starting to catch up. It had been one hell of a ride, pretty much from the moment they had met each other. While she caught her breath, she could still feel the electricity, as if Arizona's fingerprints had stuck to her body like glue. She could almost still feel her flesh burning where the blonde had touched her. Her blood seemed to be flowing differently now and she was ready to tackle whatever hurdle she needed to take to get that close to Arizona again.
When the blonde returned, she handed Callie her beer and sat down next to her. "I…I have been so angry for two weeks," she started. "Everything…it was just all so…" Arizona was fighting to find her words, but they just would not come. It was frustrating because right now she wanted to talk and it was not happening.
As she watched the blonde flounder, Callie wondered if it would help her if she shared her experience. She knew very well how Arizona must have felt since she had had pretty much the same experience. With her free upbringing, she felt she had been more prepared for a curveball like this and she felt for Arizona. She just hated to see the other woman upset.
"Fucked up?" Callie asked. "You know, I was happily living my life. Feeling on top of the world, thinking I had it all figured out. And then all of a sudden this woman saves my life. And then I keep running into her. And then I find out she rescued my father and…oh, she is an angel."
The quick recap Callie was giving was only the tip of the iceberg, but Arizona realized that she was not the only one whose life had been flipped upside down.
"You know I didn't lie to you, Arizona. I mean, I understand it's a lot to take in, but I could hardly say 'Hi my name is Callie Torres and I'm half vampire, nice to meet you'," she started tentatively. "Just like you didn't flat out tell me you are an angel."
Arizona chuckled and shook her head. "I know…I just…Dammit." Callie was right and she did not like it. It had been safe to resort to feeling angry. But now she could no longer hide behind that wall of anger.
"Take your time," Callie encouraged the other woman, which was rewarded with a genuine smile.
"I don't usually talk about how I feel," Arizona started. "My grandma mostly knows how I feel before I do," she added. "You….your father and you, you made me break so many of my rules. I let myself…like you and then I find out you're a vampire…"
"Half vampire," Callie corrected her.
"Right," Arizona corrected herself. "Everyone seemed to know what was going on, your father, my grandmother, you….and I was in over my head. You…you let me walk around in a vampire den."
"Would you have believed me if I had told you?" Callie asked.
Callie had a fair point there. She would have probably thought it was a ruse from Callie to get her out of there. And she probably still would have stayed.
"You and I…we are so different Callie. I…You seem to be breezing through life, doing whatever you please and I…there are rules to abide by."
"Wait a minute," Callie stopped her. "You were angry with me because we are different?" She raised her eyebrow and scrunched up her face. "You weren't so different from me just now, taking whatever you wanted from me," she said, her tone slightly accusatory. She was prepared to listen, but she would not sit there and have Arizona talk badly about her. The blonde did not even know her that well.
"Sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound like that…I just..all my life I've been taught to live by the rules. And ever since I met you…I've been breaking rules left and right. Things I thought were supposed to be one way, turn out to be different. It's like the whole foundation I've built my life on is a lie."
"I think you are projecting," Callie said calmly. "You are assuming I'm some lawless, unhinged being that does whatever she wants. Not only do I resent that, it's also rude. I didn't take you to be so prejudicial."
"God, no, I'm sorry," again Arizona found herself apologizing. Everything came out wrong and she was annoying herself. "It's all coming out wrong, I…."
"I get it, I know exactly how you feel. My father did teach me some history, but I didn't realize angels were walking around amongst us. I mean….it was shortsighted of me to think it was just humans and vampires and well, maybe a stray angel here and there. I didn't realize angels could be half human too. I expected wings and lutes and stuff."
She could not help but chuckle at Callie's idea of what angels were. "Now who is being prejudicial, huh?"
Callie flashed Arizona an encouraging smile. "I like you, too, Arizona."
Arizona bit her lip. That was hard to believe with the way she was treating Callie right now. But somehow, they were the right words, because it had her settle down a little more. She closed her eyes before taking a long swig of her beer. "I was really frustrated because I was out of my depth. You seemed to be fine with all this, you already had all the information. I…I never really thought vampires were still a thing and I didn't realize you….I couldn't read you. I should have known, but I didn't."
"That makes two of us," Callie replied. "I can't read you either. Not like I read people or other vampires. Hell, I could even read your grandmother through the fucking walls of her house. But you….you are an enigma."
"How do you do it?" Arizona asked.
"I can see auras," Callie replied. "I can see people's mood, it's like a colored cloud around them. Yours….yours is just pure white. When I saw you that first time…you are so bright, it almost hurt my eyes. I couldn't figure it out and my father wasn't there to tell me about it. I drove myself crazy trying to figure it out," her lips curled into a smirk as she eyed the blonde next to her.
Arizona pursed her lips. "So, that's how you win cases in court?"
"Hey!" Callie said while playfully slapping Arizona's shoulder. "You make it sound like I cheat. It's not like that, it's something I can use at will. Apart from…" she stopped and bit the inside of her cheek for a moment. She was not sure if she should tell Arizona that the blonde's presence made her lose control over her ability.
"I can feel intentions," Arizona replied. "That's how I knew about the gunmen, I felt their bad intentions before I saw them."
Callie was glad Arizona had let it slip and seemed to be able to voice her thoughts. She listened intently, making sure the blonde knew she had her undivided attention.
"I can't read yours," Arizona said. "But I can feel you. I can feel you from a mile away."
The other woman nodded and smiled. "Oh, I can feel you too."
"Weird, isn't it?"
After the rough start, their conversation started flowing and before Arizona realized it, it was well past midnight. It was not until she had to stifle a yawn that she realized how tired she was. Even though Callie was so different from her, they also had a lot in common. Nonetheless, baring her soul to another person was exhausting.
"I should go," Callie said as she got up from the sofa.
Arizona wanted to plead for the other woman to stay, but she knew that was not very wise. She was not ready for more and she needed to get some rest. She needed to recover from what had happened tonight.
"Calliope?" Arizona got up as she spoke.
"Hmm?" Callie turned around and looked at Arizona, not correcting her this time.
"Thank you for not giving up on me," she said quietly.
The dark-haired woman smiled and winked at Arizona. "Now what would be the fun in that?" She asked in a teasing tone of voice.
Arizona slowly walked Callie out, trying to prolong the woman's presence in her house. Tonight had been so incredibly cathartic. She had finally been able to talk to someone about how she felt, someone that could understand her 100%. Someone who had felt and was feeling the same. All of the anger she had been feeling was gone. It had gone right after she had sex with Callie, but with the talking afterward, she was starting to feel at peace with everything. It was going to be easier to accept it now.
And she no longer felt bad for what happened. She had acted upon her desires and she had not violated Callie. The other woman had made very clear that it was something she had wanted to happen. Arizona realized she could have been better about it, but she could not change the past.
When they reached the door, Arizona turned to Callie and looked up at her. "Thank you," she said.
The taller woman smiled. Ever since they had sex, or well, Arizona had sex with her, Callie had radiated immense power and strength and it had made Arizona feel safe. She wondered if that was a vampire thing. If that case, she could totally understand the extra appeal of sex.
"Remember that I gave your partner my business card and told him to pass it on to you?" Callie asked as she gazed into Arizona's eyes.
The blonde nodded. Of course, she remembered the business card. She had had that card between her fingers so many times.
"Use it," Callie said simply.
Arizona could not help but chuckle. Callie's cockiness, albeit annoying sometimes, was also very amusing. "I just might," she replied with a twinkle in her eye.
Callie raised her eyebrow and was about to say something, but Arizona stopped her by gently pressing her lips to Callie's. "I'll see you around, Miss Torres."
"That's good to know, Miss Robbins." And with that, Callie stepped through the door and into the night, leaving Arizona standing in the doorway.
