+Disclaimer- I do not own the Walking Dead.
Sheraal-Thank you, I'm glad you're loving it as I'm really enjoying writing it. Don't worry your wish will happen.
OldLonBird- Thank you, I like that you're really getting in to it, I fully agree with everything you said. Danny's doing better and is being treated so much better than Lori and she can't stand seeing it. Even though Rick's group are a family, Danny's group is so much closer. There is no limit to what they'll do for each other.
Shadowoftheblackdeat- Another bunch of good ideas, I'm so happy you're still really loving this story.
Danny's POV
Carol, Sophia and Merle are out on a run, that I should be on but I'm no longer allowed on runs. They're out getting anything that I or the baby may need when it gets here. I wanted Daryl so at least one of us was there but nobody thought Merle should stay here. He could make the rift between our two groups worse and Daryl doesn't think I'll be good at stopping it from happening, in fact, he think's I'll end up just joining in. A little insulting but then again he's probably right.
They've been gone since first light and Daryl suspects they'll be back anytime soon as it's already early evening and the Sun should be setting in just a few hours. I'm up in the tower by the front gate waiting. It was this or being inside in the extremely awkward atmosphere, alone.
Daryl has gone back into the prison again, he's clearing it out so we can move cell blocks because our two groups can no longer share one living space. The Sheriff, Lori and even Beth just stare at us as we move around and then there's Carl. He's just point blankly refusing to look at any of us.
Glenn and Maggie are okay, Glenn has gotten a very strong backbone through the Winter and he isn't letting the Sheriff completely control him. I think he has Maggie to thank for that. The two of them are treating us like they did before, they've even been helping Daryl clear out the inner prison.
I hear the car coming so I climb down from the tower so I can open the front gate. Their car appears in the distance but the bodies walking through the trees stops me opening the gate, they aren't Walkers. They're moving too fast and walking too well to be dead. As they come closer they pick up speed, trying to get to the gate before the car does. As they get closer I finally recognise them. It's two out of the five prisoners, the worst two. Tomas and his little friend. I scan the tree line behind them searching for the others, but I can't see anything but that doesn't mean they're not there.
The duo reach the gate first, my gun is in my hand just hidden from their view. Tomas gun on the other hand is in full view and he's upgraded. Found himself a better one, bigger one, his little friend still has his bat and as far as I can see no gun.
"Can I help you?"
Tomas smirks "Ya gonna open up the gate for us?"
I raise my eyebrows, "Don't see why I need to, you don't live here".
"From this moment on, we do". Tomas then raises his gun and aims it straight at me but I still don't raise mine, he seems to either not know or not care but Merle is out of the car and has his gun pointed straight at Tomas.
I shrug. "Yeah I don't think so."
Tomas takes a threatening step forward and cocks his gun. "Let me in, you fuckin' bitch. Or I will kill you and just take this place".
I can hear people behind me, I can hear the clanging of the gate as it's shoved open but I don't take my eyes off of the two people in front of me.
Tomas finally turns his head to look at the three people behind him, "Ya hear me, I'll fuckin' shoot he..." The bullet hits him before he can finish his threat. Tomas little friend ducks and starts shouting as he suddenly takes off. Merle shoots at him to but he misses as the man runs around Walkers that are coming closer. I quickly unlock the gate so Merle can get the car in before the Walkers get too close.
Merle slams his car door shut. "That fuckin' piece of shit". I shut the gate just as a Walker drops to it's knees by Tomas' body.
Daryl skids to a stop beside me followed very quickly by Glenn and the others. Everyone starts speaking at once. Beth lets out a little screech after seeing the freshly dead body.
The Sheriff pushes his way through the little crowd so he can see through the fence. "What did you do?"
Merle scoffs and shrugs, "Killed a fuckin' douche bag".
Daryl sweeps my hair behind my shoulder. "Are you okay".
I give him a tiny nod. "I'm fine. Wasn't even a little worried. I don't think they'd planned this out at all".
Merle chuckles, "It's like he fully believed we'd be threatened by one little gun."
"Did you see the others?" Sheriff looks out across the tree line.
"No," I tell him. "They weren't here it was just the two of them?"
The Sheriff turns on me. "How can you be sure? We need to get inside, have one up in this guard tower. Who knows what weapons they have and what they'll do now that you killed one of them."
"It was just the two of them I'm certain of it". The Sheriff looks at me like he really doesn't believe me.
"We knew guys like those before", Daryl says, "The three that weren't here, they ain't like Tomas and Andrew. I don't think they'd approve on killing anyone here to get this place back".
"You don't think?" Lori snarks at him causing my back to stiffen. "You just killed one of them and now we have four prisoners who will be armed and know this place better than we do, you've put us in even more danger than we were before"
"Why do you have to try and pick a fight over everything? That man threatened me, he wanted to get in this place. Merle killed Tomas to protect us all. Why are you unable to accept the fact that we do know what we're doing and that we aren't putting you in danger, we're trying to help, whether you want that help or not".
Glenn steps forward to stand in between me and Lori. He looks at Daryl and Merle in turn. "Do you think Andrew will come back?"
They're both silent as the brothers look at each other. Daryl then nods. "Yeah I do but I can't be certain. He seemed to be Tomas' follower didn't really have any ideas of his own but that doesn't mean he's not going to exact his revenge." He looks down at me like he's about to say something he knows I won't like. "I'm gonna go out and see if I can track him".
I don't like it but it has to be done. If he can be caught we won't have to sit here and wait for him to get his revenge. It can be stopped before it starts. "Okay, be careful and don't go alone."
"I'll go with him", Carol offers.
I mouth thank you to her as she offers me a small smile.
