Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 3 of Someone Like You. Thank you to those who have stuck with this story. I don't know if I should make this a three-way romance or just have some romance between her and Jack, but it does not mean much of anything. I know that I'm having a bit of trouble writing the chapters out. I know it is going to take me some time to make sure that each chapter is good and long. I hope that you guys will enjoy everything that Rose will go through. I am hoping to keep Rose a good strong character even though it's taking time to write out each of these chapters and make them worthwhile as I write them. I am trying my best with writing out the chapters and editing them. I edit with Google Docs and I also edit with Grammarly. I hope that you guys enjoy this next chapter of this story. Without further ado Chapter 3.

Chapter 3

Rose stood in her sister's room dressed in a nightgown with a robe over top. She bit her lip softly. She had been so concerned with what happened at the docks that Elizabeth wouldn't have a very good night that evening. "Try to get a good night's sleep Elizabeth…" Rose said softly. "I am very pleased to know that you are alright." She swallowed the lump in her throat as she turned to Estrella who was busy at the bottom of Elizabeth's bed.

"There you go, Miss. It was a difficult day for you, I'm sure." Estrella said as she continued to work on the end of the bed. Estrella was a gossiper and loved hearing things that had happened in town since she hardly ever went into town.

"I suspected Commodore Norrington would propose, but I must admit, I wasn't entirely prepared for it," Elizabeth said softly knowing that Rose was probably hurt by the whole thing of James wanting to marry her instead of Rose. She knew that Rose fancied James even though she made it seem like she didn't. She couldn't help but wonder why she didn't ask their father to have James marry Rose instead of her. She didn't know what happened to the last guy that wanted Rose's hand in marriage. But she couldn't bring herself to ask her sister what had happened.

Rose looked down, gripping her hands together at her sides. She quickly moved them so Elizabeth nor Estrella would see her hands going white from the tightness that she had them at. She wasn't expecting Elizabeth to gossip with Estrella. She knew that this was something that Estrella loved doing.

"Well, I meant you were being threatened by that pirate. Sounds terrifying."

Rose cleared her throat a little bit. "Oh. Yes. It was terrifying." Rose said, looking down towards the ground. At least she had been able to protect her sister from him.

"But - the Commodore proposed! Fancy that! That's a smart match, miss it if it's not too bold to say."

Elizabeth looked up at Estrella. "It is a smart match. He's a fine man. He's what any woman should dream of marrying." Elizabeth knew that the match wasn't a perfect fit for her, but her sister, perhaps. She just had to figure out how to get her sister proposed to instead of her. She didn't want to marry James. Even though he was fairly kind to her. But she could easily see between James and Rose that the two of them deserved to be with one another.

Estrella looked over at Elizabeth, her brows rising. "Well, that Will Turner, he's a fine man, too." She said hoping that she wasn't overstepping her bounds of talking about the young blacksmith that they had brought into Port Royal 8 years ago.

Elizabeth looked at Estrella sharply. "That is too bold." Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Estrella. She didn't like how bold Estrella was at that moment talking about Will. She didn't want her father to hear the maid gossiping about Will, whom she fancied, but had a feeling that she wasn't fancied by him.

"Begging your pardon, miss. It was not my place." Estrella said as she exited the room.

Elizabeth let out a breath as she tried to read fiddling with the medallion that was around her neck.

"Are you certain that you're alright from your fall?" Rose questioned her sister softly. Her brows pinched together in concern. She was still very worried about her sister and that something could still crop up. Something that would be a danger to everyone.

"I am alright Rose…" Elizabeth said softly as she looked up at her sister. "I'm more concerned about you." She bit her lower lip softly. "You were held hostage by Jack…"

Rose let out a breath. "And we weren't expecting such a thing. Perhaps he was more worried about his own life and did not care what happened around him. He didn't care if he would've gotten me shot at." Rose shook her head lightly knowing that her sister was worried. "But I'm alright, I promise." Rose offered her sister a weak smile knowing that her sister was worried about her.

The lamp flame suddenly drops and the room goes black.

"What in the world…" Rose said softly moving towards the lamp that just went out.

A loud boom was heard causing the girls to look at one another.

"That sounded like…"

"Cannon fire…" Rose said, looking at her sister before trying to reach for her hand. Why would there be cannon fire in the harbor? Was there a danger that was coming into their city and what kind of danger was it? Was it more pirates coming onto land? Were they after Jack Sparrow or were they there to ransack the town?

The two of them looked out from the balcony, through the fog as multiple fires were visible, ships burning in the harbor, and cannon fire echoing through the town.

Rose nudged her sister seeing something. She knew that this wasn't a good thing in their home. Their people were in danger and they were even in danger as well. She knew that they needed to get out of their home and to safety as quickly as possible. She froze when she noticed that something was headed their way.

Elizabeth looked and saw shadowy figures approaching their home.

The two of them bolted from Elizabeth's room quickly. They reached the landing about the foyer just as their butler opened the door.

"Don't!" Elizabeth yelled, hoping that she was going to be able to stop him from answering, but they were too late to get there.

"'ello, chum." His pistol goes off and the butler crumpled to the ground dead.

Elizabeth shoved Rose away not to be seen as she stifled a scream, but it was too late as she was noticed. Sadly her sister wasn't noticed by the pirates that were invading their home.

"Up there!"

They rushed for the stairs as even more pirates broke into their home, going after Elizabeth whom they noticed.

Elizabeth stumbled back as Rose grabbed her shoulder.

"Come on," Rose said softly as she quickly went to get away from the large swarm of pirates.

The two young women ran back to Elizabeth's room and inside as quickly as they could.

Elizabeth slammed the door shut, and quickly locked it.

Rose turned around to see Estrella there.

"Miss Swann …" Estrella said softly looking at both young women.

Elizabeth jumps, turning to see Estrella is right behind her and her sister and she is terrified.

"They've come to kidnap you!" She said softly in a whisper.

"What?" Elizabeth questioned softly, confused. She didn't understand why the pirates would come for her. She was the youngest child of the governor. Rose would also be one to kidnap if they were after the governor's daughters.

Rose gripped her hands at her sides tightly. Of course, most of the maids adored Elizabeth and her brash way of doing things. It was like she was the golden girl or something that everyone liked.

"You're the Governor's daughter."

Elizabeth blinked a few times realizing that she was indeed correct.

There is a sudden slam of a body against the door.

Elizabeth shoved Estrella and her sister into the corner, between a tall wardrobe and the wall. "Listen! They haven't seen you." Elizabeth said softly looking at her sister and maid.

Rose looked at her sister with wide eyes. "What? Elizabeth what…" Rose said softly trying to understand why her little sister was doing such a thing. Granted yes, she hadn't been noticed, but it wouldn't take much for them to notice that there were two daughters of the governor.

"Go hide, and the first chance you two get, run to the fort." Elizabeth pleaded with her sister and maid. She wanted them to be safe and pirates roaming around wasn't a good sign.

Estrella nodded her head.

Rose took a shaky breath. "Elizabeth it's…"

Another slam hits the door and it gives a bit. Suddenly Pintel and Ragetti burst through the door as it slams into the wardrobe so Estrella and Rose couldn't be seen. They spotted Elizabeth dashing out the side door and they ran for the door.

Rose held her hand over her mouth to keep herself from screaming. She knew Elizabeth had a plan and it wasn't a good plan for them. It was a dangerous plan. She could only hope that Elizabeth wouldn't end up hurt in whatever her plan was.

Pintel suddenly gets a pan of the bed warmer in his face causing him to stagger back holding his nose.

Estrella grabbed Rose's hand and they took off to the door and out the door as quickly as they could. Estrella registered the body of the dead butler as they continued out the still open front door in a dead run. "Come on Miss." She wasn't about to have Rose kidnapped as well. She was willing to protect the eldest Swann sibling.

Rose quickly followed by holding up the end of the skirt of her nightgown as she ran following Estrella. "Oh, I do hope Elizabeth can escape…" She said softly, trailing off on what she was saying. She was scared that Elizabeth would end up getting hurt.

"Yes, Miss. But we must do as your sister says." Estrella said as they continued to run towards the fort maneuvering around all of the chaos that was going on around them.

They quickly rushed up to the fort and got inside easily.

Commodore Norrington turned his head to see Rose and Estrella disheveled. He moved quickly towards Rose. "Rose…"

Rose looked up at Commodore Norrington with wide scared eyes. "Pirates overtook the mansion." She said softly, tears filling her eyes. "Elizabeth ordered Estrella and me to come here to be safe…"

"Rose." He carefully put his hands on her shaking shoulders. He could feel her shudder under his touch. He took a breath. "Where is Elizabeth?" He asked softly knowing that she had been through so much at that very moment. But he wanted to make sure that he got Elizabeth back home safely.

"She's still inside… they saw her… I… I shouldn't have left her…" Rose said, beginning to panic. Her breaths came out short and in worry. She shouldn't have left her sister to be with the rough pirates that were swarming their home.

James took her towards his office where she would be safe and with her father. He carefully helped her into the chair.

Rose ran her hands through her hair nervously, her hands shaking as she did so. Her breaths shakily come out. She couldn't believe that she willingly went with Estrella to get to safety and leave her behind. She knew that her younger sister was smart, but this was dangerous and she could end up getting herself killed.

"Rose… look at me," James said softly, looking at her and touching her cheek. He knew he needed to reassure her that Elizabeth wouldn't get hurt.

Rose looked up at him not even noticing her father in the room. Tears filled her blue eyes as she looked into James's green eyes. Her breath came out rather shakily.

"You did as your sister told you to… Don't feel bad for what happened. None of this is your fault…" James said softly stroking her cheek.

"But Elizabeth…" She said softly only to trail off sniffling a little bit.

"We will get her back and bring her home safely."

Rose took a shaky breath as a few tears slid down her cheeks.

"You're safe now… you and Estrella are safe and sound…"

Rose nodded her head weakly. She felt terrible that Elizabeth had risked her own life to save her and Estrella. She gripped her hands together in nerves. She knew what she had to do, she had promised her mother that she would protect Elizabeth before she passed away. Rose knew that she needed to bring Elizabeth safe and sound.

"I promise I'll bring your sister home safely," James said softly looking into her eyes. "I know how important she is to you and your father."

Rose looked up at him, chewing the inside of her cheek in concern. "And she's important to you as well. More important than me to you." She looked down feeling the tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

James' brows furrowed together in concern. "Rose…"

Rose looked up sadly at James. "You proposed to her… you'll make a great husband to her."

James looked up at the Governor wondering what he should say. He saw the look on his face and knew that he needed to say the right thing. He looked at Rose. "I didn't think that you would accept my proposal." He admitted softly as he looked at her.

Rose's brows furrowed. "Is it because I said no to Sir Beckett's proposal?" Her lower lip went between her teeth in nervousness. She was trying to understand what James was saying. "Are you saying that…" She swallowed the lump in her throat. "That you would've proposed to me? Instead of Elizabeth?"

James swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded his head slowly. "Yes."

Rose's blue eyes went wide in shock. She couldn't believe that James was willing to propose to her if it hadn't seemed like she had wanted a proposal due to what had happened to her with Sir Beckett's proposal. Rose turned to look at her father wondering what he would say about that. "Father?" She asked softly, biting her lower lip.

Governor Swann took a breath as he looked between the two of them. "We will talk about this later." He pointed out to his eldest daughter.

Rose nodded her head weakly. "Yes, getting Elizabeth back home safely."

"And we will do that Rose… but you need to rest now." He said softly coming over to her. "You've been through a lot this evening. We will get Elizabeth to come back in the morning."

Rose nodded her head knowing that her father was correct in what he said. They would get Elizabeth back and bring her home to safety and then they would talk about any engagement plans that were in the fire. She just hoped that everything would end up being alright.

This is the end of Chapter 3. I hope that you guys enjoyed this chapter. I'm trying my best to write this out and be accurate with how they talk and whatnot. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. Should I add in some side romance with Jack, like him helping her with choosing what she does in life? Reviews help me a lot when it comes to writing chapters up and making things turn out well. I want to try to make Rose a better character than before. I don't want to fully pair her off with Jack. Just kind of have Jack give her a push into making her choice. I know that I don't want Rose to be second best to Elizabeth. So if anyone has any ideas of how to make Rose seem not like second best to James, please let me know. I'll give y'all credit for the idea. Until next time.
