Chapter 7
Rose rested her arms on the edge of the ship as it cut across the waves. Her eyes slowly closed as she listened to Will sharpening his sword with a whetstone. The scritching sound was somehow calming to her, which she didn't fully understand. Perhaps it was because he had done it a few times in front of her when she and Elizabeth had visited while he worked on some new swords that had been commissioned by the navy.
Will followed Jack. "My father. Bill Turner? When I was a lad living in England, my mother raised me by herself." Will explained to Jack hoping that he would at least explain why he had so willingly said yes to help him after he had found out his name.
Jack tightened a line on the ship trying his best to not listen to the young man that had been chattering away.
"After she died, I came out here... looking for my father."
"Is that so?" Jack questioned as he moved down the ship moving around Rose. Jack continued to work, not saying another word.
Will lost his patience in trying to get a proper answer out of Jack. "At the jail - it was only after you learned my name that you agreed to help. Since that's what I wanted, I didn't press the matter. I'm not a simpleton, Jack. You knew my father."
Jack considered his reply and decided to tell him the truth. "I knew him. Probably one of the few
who knew him as William Turner. Everyone else just called him 'Bootstrap' or 'Bootstrap' Bill."
"'Bootstrap?'" Will asked his brows furrowing some.
Jack moved to the wheel steering the ship.
Rose blinked a few times her brows furrowed into a thin line. What if Jack was telling the truth? This wasn't a good sign for any of them including Will if his father was indeed a pirate. Bootstrap to her sounded like a Pirate's name. She worried her lower lip between her teeth in nervousness. She couldn't help but wonder if Will would end up exactly like his father, which made her worry more about her sister and her love for Will.
"Good man, good pirate. I swear you look just like him." Jack said, eyeing Will as he moved the wheel a little bit.
"It's not true. He was a merchant sailor. A good, respectable man who obeyed the law."
Jack looked at Will and his patience was suddenly lost. "He was a bloody pirate. A scallywag."
Will yanked his sword out and leveled it at Jack. "My father - was not - a pirate!"
Jack didn't turn around to face the young man that was yelling at him.
Rose swallowed the lump in her throat. She rubbed her temples lightly. "Enough you two, haven't you both proven your point?" She was rather irritated by the whole thing.
"Put it away, son. It's not worth you getting beat again." Jack said, rolling his eyes not liking how Will was taking this new information.
"You didn't beat me. You ignored the rules of engagement. In a fair fight, I'd kill you." Will snarled his lip curling some in irritation.
Jack turned to Will looking at him, his eyes slightly narrowed. "Then that's not much incentive for me to fight fair then, is it?" He turned the wheel hard causing the sail boom to whip around and slammed right into Will's chest his sword clattered onto the deck.
Rose let out a shriek seeing Will dangling over the water. "WILL!" She said moving forward only to stop when Jack made a movement. Her eyes widened even more.
Jack grabbed Will's sword and pointed it at him. "Now as long as you're just hanging there, pay attention. The only rules that really matter are these: What a man can do. And what a man can't do. For instance: you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man ... or you can't. But pirate is in your blood, boy, so you'll have to square with that someday. Now me, for example, I can let you drown …"
Will looked at Jack alarmed. He really thought that Jack was going to end up killing him or leaving him stranded out in the sea to drown.
"But I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesy, savvy?" Jack swung the boom so Will could call right on deck. He pointed Will's sword at him again. "So - can you sail under the command of a pirate -" Jack flipped the sword, offering it back to Will. "-or can you not?"
Will took the sword back from Jack as he lay there on the deck. He thought for a moment. "Tortuga?"
"Tortuga."
Rose blinked a few times. "Tortuga? What is in Tortuga?" She questioned looking over at Jack, keeping her voice from wavering from what had happened with Will being over the ocean.
Jack looked over at Rose seeing the confused look on her face. "To find a crew to help us go after your sister."
Rose swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked over at Will. Her brows furrowed in concern wondering if this was the right thing to do. She had heard many stories of what Tortuga was all about and none of the stories were good ones.
Will saw the concerned look on her face.
"But men will take interest in you if yer, not careful bonny-lass." Jack pointed out as he looked at the young woman.
Rose narrowed her eyes looking at Jack. "How dare you." She said crossing her arms hating the fact that Jack was thinking that men would corrupt her in some way. She knew how to protect herself if she needed to.
"She won't be alone Jack," Will said, moving towards her. "She'll have me protecting her."
Rose nodded her head knowing that Will would watch over her fairly easily and that was something that she was thankful for. She looked at Will, giving him a thankful smile. "Even though I might not need it." She said, giving him a look. "I know how to use a sword, Will. You're the one that taught me how to use one against father's wishes of course."
Will's cheeks flushed knowing that he had taught both Elizabeth and Rose in the art of swords, but he hoped that neither one of them would need it. He knew that their husbands would be able to handle the task of protecting them from the dangers of the world.
"Oh good then. No worries then." Jack said with a cheeky smile.
Rose rolled her eyes. "It's not like you would protect me, Captain Sparrow." She said as she put her dainty hands on her hips.
"If you would've asked I would've." Jack said coyly as he looked at her, his smile growing.
Rose shook her head lightly, her hair bouncing as she did so. She let out a soft breath. "I do doubt what you say, Captain Sparrow, after what you had done to me. Saved her then used me as a human shield to protect yourself from James." She pointed out as her delicate brow raised. She was still a little upset with the whole using her as a shield to protect himself from having gun fire upon him.
Jack looked up at her in surprise. "You mean the Commodore?"
Rose's cheeks flushed in embarrassment. "I… um…" She looked away shyly rubbing her arm in embarrassment.
Jack let out a soft laugh at how Rose was asking. "I have me answer."
Rose's head shot up her eyes wide. She couldn't believe that Jack could easily see that she cared for James. Perhaps he was sharper than what he had let on. She let out a breath and shook her head lightly moving away from Jack who was coming closer to her.
"You love him, and he cares about you." Jack pointed out as he moved even closer to her. "But you think that he loves Elizabeth. Don't get me wrong, she is a beautiful lass, but I saw the look on his face when we sailed away when he saw you."
Rose looked down, gripping her hands tightly at her sides. "He's just worried most likely. It's not because of him caring about me."
Jack looked at her with a look of confusion. "Oh darling I don't think that is what it is." He mused his lips quirking a bit in a smile. "Perhaps you'll just have to have someone else warm your bed at night."
Rose's eyes went wide as she looked at Jack. She hadn't expected him to talk to her like she was a woman that wanted a man to warm her bed. "Oh, and who would even want to do that? You?"
"Only if you ask darling." He teased with a cheeky smile.
Rose shook her head, turning on her heels sharply. She needed to get away from Jack and his lingering stares. She didn't want him to think that she would easily swoon for him. She had too many suitors in the past for her hand in marriage and one succeeded in proposing to her even though she turned him down knowing that he only was in it for another reason.

This is the end of Chapter 7. I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter. I know there isn't much Jack/Rose in this part, but I did try my best. I think that everyone knows that Jack kind of has no chance with Rose. Even though he'll probably try a bit more during this story. I hope that I did alright adding more into this chapter to not only make it longer, but add some scenes between Rose and Jack… well at least make it longer. I hope that I succeeded in that. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. I will try to update as often as I can. Reviews keep me going in my writing. Until next time.
