Authoress Note: Welcome to Chapter 8 of Someone Like You. Thank you to those who have left reviews and have kept up with this story. It really does mean a lot to me. I am trying my best to rewrite this whole story so I'm hoping that it is turning out better. I'm also trying my best to add more in as I write these chapters. Hopefully I am doing exactly just that. Making the chapters longer and more eventful than what they were before. I hope that you all enjoy this next chapter. Without further ado Chapter 8.
Chapter 8
They arrived in a dirty port; dank, confusion anywhere you look. Men firing guns, chasing ladies that were painted up, and large amounts of alcohol being drunk by the men and also women.
Jack, Will, and Rose walked through the streets trying to avoid the people that were roaming around rather drunkenly.
Will studied the environment with a dubious expression on his face as Rose stayed close to him even though she looked very masculine in what she wore at that moment keeping her hair hidden underneath a pirate hat. He looked over at Rose out of the corner of his eyes making sure that no one noticed that she was a female and not a male.
Rose's brows furrowed as she walked, being very careful of where she stepped. Her nose wrinkled slightly in distaste. Why would someone want to be here when there were less dingy places that someone could go. She didn't like how the women watched the three of them with hungry looks in their eyes. She couldn't understand why women would want to please any sort of man that wasn't their husband. Perhaps she wouldn't ever understand and she actually hoped that she never would have to understand it.
"More importantly, it is indeed a sad lot that has never breathed deep the sweet proliferous bouquet that is Tortuga, savvy?" Jack took a deep breath of the air. "What do you think?" Jack said, turning to look at the two of them wondering what they thought about the island that he loved so much.
Rose shook her head lightly not liking the idea of the place whatsoever. She wanted to get off the island as quickly as they could. She couldn't really stand the smell nor the stares that they were getting.
Will looked around, seeing a two fisted pirate drinking his fill of rum, painted ladies displaying their wares, and a donkey bellowing. "It'll linger." Will said, trying to not offend the pirate that they had gone with. He thought that this place was full of sin pretty much and he didn't want to get involved with anyone on this island.
"I'll tell you mate, if every town in the world were like this one, no man would ever feel unwanted." Jack mused with a smile.
A redhead walked up to Jack dressed in a scarlet dress.
"Scarlett !" Jack said his smile growing bigger as he looked at the red haired woman.
Scarlett slapped him hard before stalking off.
"Not sure I deserved that." Jack said muttering to himself. He turned back, just as a smiling blonde wench planted herself in his path. He smiled. "Giselle!"
Giselle pointed after the redhead with a tilt of her head. "Who was she?" She questioned rather rudely as she looked at Jack with narrowed eyes.
Jack looked after the redhead, then back only to receive another slap and Giselle walked off in anger. "I may have deserved that." Jack muttered holding his cheek and moving his jaw in pain.
Rose let out a soft laugh shaking her head lightly. "You deserved it." She said as she gave him a look, her arms crossing slightly as she looked at him. "Both times honestly."
Jack looked over at Rose with narrowed eyes before turning to walk with the two of them. "We should escape this wretched pit as quickly as possible." He pointed out moving down the narrow road.
"With a crew …" Will said as he pulled Rose close to him as they walked past a few leering men who were staring at her.
"Ah, yes. Well it just so happens that you know the man who knows the man who knows the finest sailors in all Tortuga." Jack said, leading them away.
Will looked over at Rose and slowly led her to follow Jack.
"Will…" Rose said softly as she kept her hand on the sword that was on the belt that was wrapped around her middle.
"Yes, Miss Swann?" Will questioned his brow raising slightly.
"Do you think that this outfit… was a better choice than my gown?"
"Yes, Miss Swann. It's to protect you better…"
Rose looked at him. "Those men seemed to know that I'm not male."
Will put his hand on her back and continued to walk with her. "I won't let anything happen to you. I promise." He admitted softly as he led her towards the area where Jack was leading them too. "Jack, how much farther?" He called after the pirate.
"Not too much farther. Come on now." Jack mused with a smile as he continued to lead them through the dingy streets of Tortuga.

A drunken man laid in the mud, asleep with three pigs. He wore an old tattered Navy jacket.
Rose blinked a few times recognizing the Navy Jacket. She couldn't believe who she was seeing laying there in the mud with pigs. How could he have ended up here when he was a navy man. Perhaps he had fallen out of favor with the king, which was never a good sign of things.
Suddenly Jack splashed water across the man's face.
The man sputtered and roared. "Curse you for breathing, you slack-jawed idiot!" Suddenly the man recognized Jack. "Mother's love, Jack! You know better than to wake a man when he's sleeping. It's bad luck!" The man scolded him.
Rose gasped softly recognizing him finally. She hadn't expected to see him in such a place. She knew that this probably wasn't the place he wanted to be, but perhaps maybe he did.
"Ah, fortunately, I know how to counter it. The man who did the waking buys the man who was sleeping a drink. The man who was sleeping drinks it, while listening to a proposition from the man who did the waking."
"Aye, that'll about do it." The man said, looking at Jack agreeing to the drink.
Jack helped Gibbs up to his feet before getting splashed with a second wave of water.
Will held onto the bucket looking rather sheepishly.
"Blast it, I'm already awake!" Gibbs shouted in frustration not liking the fact that he had gotten another bucket of water to the face.
"That was for the smell." Will pointed out looking at Gibbs.
Gibbs looked at Will before reconsidering, shrugging his shoulders.
"Mr. Gibbs?" Rose questioned softly, her brows furrowed, hoping that she had the right person.
Gibbs turned, recognizing the voice of the young woman. "Miss Swann?" He questioned his brows furrowed wondering why Rose was here in such a dreadful place.
Rose came closer revealing herself to the old man. "Yes, Mister Gibbs." Her brows pinched together in concern. She was surprised to see him in such a place.
"Blast, what are you doing in this wretched place?" He questioned scolding the girl for being in such a place.
Rose rubbed the back of her neck shyly. "Elizabeth was taken." She said softly. "I couldn't allow my sister to suffer a terrible fate." She hated the fact that she was admitting that Elizabeth had protected her and their maid. She hated the fact that she was forced to run away instead of protecting her sister. She should've stayed behind and protected Elizabeth. She knew that she was going to have to talk to Elizabeth for what she had done. She could only hope that Elizabeth would understand where she would be coming from.
Gibbs swallowed the lump in his throat remembering Elizabeth. He couldn't believe that Rose was following her younger sister to save her from most likely death from whoever had taken her. He could only hope that the two of them would be able to come out of this whole thing unschated from the deal with pirates.

This is the end of Chapter 8. I hope that you enjoy the chapter. I added some extra stuff in to try to make it better. It took a little bit to get it to flow right. But I think it turned out fairly well. I kind of made Rose more of a stronger character, meaning that she has a sword with her this time. Thankfully she hasn't had to pull it out just yet. But it will mean that she'll have to use it more. I am currently trying to find out some new ideas for the second book and the third of course. For some reason I still don't want Elizabeth to become the Pirate Lord of Singapore. Please leave a review and let me know what you think. I hope that it was an enjoyable chapter. I've tried my best with trying to make this chapter a good one. Reviews keep me going. Until next time.
