The Slap

Just after winter break of their Senior year at Abigail Adams High School, Maya and Riley were walking toward their English class. Coming down the hall from the other direction were Farkle, Lucas, Smackle, and Zay. As the girls neared the classroom, Charlie Gardner and Missy Bradford stood in the way of the girls.

Missy gave the girls a looked of disdain: "You two disgust me." And she reached out and slapped Maya hard enough to cause Maya's head to snap with the force of the slap. Missy looked at Charlie who stepped toward Maya raising his arm and pulling it back as if he was going to hit Maya too.

Riley immediately moved toward Charlie, dropping her books, and before Charlie could move this arm forward to hit Maya, Riley punched him in the face, with everyone in the hallway hearing a crack and seeing Charlie start to step back. Before Farkle, Lucas, and Zay could even start to move toward Charlie, Riley, and Maya, they saw Charlie fall to the floor and everyone heard another crack.

Smackle quickly turned around and started to run toward the school office to summon Nurse Bella and alert the school office staff of the incident. When Nurse Bella arrived at the scene, she saw blood on the floor coming from Charlie's head. She told Lucas to get Janitor Harley.

Then students watching the incident stepped back against the walls of the hallway as the Principal, Assistant Principal, and both Deans ran up to the scene, as Harper came out of her classroom. Just as Cory arrived on the scene, some student panicked at seeing the blood on the hallway floor and pulled the fire alarm.

In less than a minute, the hallways were filled with students moving toward the outside of the building. Missy started to move toward an exit, but Farkle and Zay stopped her and held her in place. Riley hugged Maya and pulled her out of the way of the students moving outside.

Within eight minutes, four fire trucks, and a police vehicle, followed by an ambulance, pulled into the school parking lot. The fire captain and police officer followed the ambulance attendants into the school to determine what was happening.

The Principal, fire captain, and police officer listened to Farkle calmly explain everything to them, while Lucas continued to hold Missy. Then they listened to Riley's explanation of what had happened as Charlie was taken to the ambulance. Missy was put into handcuffs and taken to the police vehicle. The fire captain returned to his fire truck and the fire trucks left the parking lot with the ambulance and police vehicle.

The Principal, Assistant Principal, and the Deans got all of the students back into their classrooms. Nurse Bella returned to her office, Janitor Harley cleaned the hallway, and Cory, Farkle, Lucas, Maya, Riley, and Smackle went to the cafeteria to discuss the whole incident. The Principal joined them and announced that Riley was being suspended for hitting Charlie. But the suspension was only for the next two days left in the week.

Cory returned to his classroom. Farkle, Lucas, and Zay returned to their classes too. Maya and Riley were allowed to leave for the day, and they went home to the Matthews' apartment and their Bay Window, where, finally, Maya and Riley confessed their love to each other and became girlfriends and life-long love partners.
