(("It was about fall 1979 in my junior year of college when I first met your mother…")) Dan wistfully narrated.
A young Dan walked down the long stretch of path leading to one of the many classroom buildings on-campus. Suddenly, he bumped into a tall, female asparagus about his age.
"I'm…Lisa…" the asparagus woman giggled.
"Y-you wanna maybe, go out sometime?" Dan asked. "I know this great place and—"
"Sure, here's my number." Lisa handed Dan a piece of paper. "Not like I got anything better to do…"
Lisa glumly walked away, Dan stared at the number and while he wondered why she felt sad, he still felt pretty happy at the thought of him having a date for this evening!

Dan later found out why Lisa was feeling so glum--the reason was her current boyfriend, a handsome yet dim-witted persimmon named Brian had stood her up for another woman.
"How could he be so heartless?" Dan asked Lisa, now greatly saddened. "I'll be a better boyfriend than he ever was."
"Thanks Dan..." Lisa sighed, embracing Dan ever so tightly. "Where d'you wanna go?"
"Well, where do you wanna go?" Dan asked. "I really don't mind.."
"I was thinking maybe the roller rink, or the movie theater..." Lisa smiled.
"How about both?" Dan asked. "I don't see why we can't do both!"
