First mate's log:
April 11, 1970
Today we took Peter Brady over to the other island so he could go to the Blenford Toy Store. He just turned eleven and he wanted to spend his birthday money. His parents saw him off on the ferry and his mother was nervous about him going on his own, since he's so young, and even Greg never goes over by himself. But Peter wanted to feel like a big kid, and the Skipper quietly promised her that we'd make sure her middle boy would return safe and sound.
We had no way of knowing that there would be an accident at the toy store. When Peter came back, with a model airplane kit, he told us about a little girl, somewhere between Jan and Cindy's ages, trying to climb a shelving unit to get at a doll at the very top. The unit pulled loose from the wall and almost crashed down on the girl! Peter saw the accident and was able to push the girl out of the way just in time, saving her life!
"Wow, you're a hero!" I exclaimed.
"I guess so. I mean, you and the Skipper were heroes when you used to save people's lives before we all got rescued by Mrs. Smith, but I never really thought of myself as one."
"Well, you're one now, Little Buddy," the Skipper said, patting him on the back.
"Where were the girl's parents?" Gopher asked.
"Oh, her mom was there and she bought me this neato model kit."
Gopher waited until Peter went to show his kit to the rest of the crew before he said, "If I were the mother, I'd sue the toy store."
The Skipper chuckled. "If you were the mother, Gopher, I think the little girl would have other things to worry about."
I'm more worried about what Peter's mother is going to say when she finds out he was almost in an accident. I hope she doesn't blame me.
Carol Brady's diary:

Peter risked his life to save a little girl! I reluctantly let him go over on the ferry by himself so he could visit the Blenford Toy Store. He was fine on the ferry and on the big island in general, but the accident happened in the toy store. A wall unit almost fell on a little girl but Peter pushed her out of the way. I'm very proud of him but I'm sort of glad I didn't know at the time, since I would've been so worried.
We're all proud of him and I forgave Alice for making him a dessert that's a mix of his three favorites. It's not every day that someone in the family does something heroic.

Today we took over the same Blenford Bugle reporter and photographer we took over about fifteen months ago, although the ferry runs more often than it did back then. They were again reporting on a Brady kid, this time on Peter, for saving that girl's life a couple days ago. I'm happy for him, since he doesn't always get as much attention, as the middle boy. And, no, Mrs. Brady isn't mad at us about the accident.

Peter made the front page of the Blenford Bugle! The Bugle reporter and photographer who came over when Mike was chosen Father of the Year arrived yesterday because of Peter's rescue of little Tina Spencer. I just thought there'd be a nice little article but it looks like the biggest news of the week. I'm prouder than ever of Peter and had to show the whole family that front page. Peter asked to borrow scissors so that he could cut the picture and headline out for his scrapbook.

Today we took the three oldest Brady kids over to Blenford. Mrs. Spencer, the mother of the little girl Peter saved, wanted to buy Peter another toy besides the model airplane kit to show her appreciation. Mrs. Brady gave her permission but this time she wanted Peter's older brother and sister to go with him, just in case.
They came back empty-handed, but Marcia rolled her eyes and said, "Mrs. Spencer is having everything delivered."
"Everything?"
Greg looked around to make sure that his brother was over talking to Gopher at the other end of the boat. "Mrs. Spencer told him he could have anything in the toy store, so he picked practically everything."
"Except the Kitty Carry-All dolls."
"That's not like Peter to be so greedy."
"He thinks he deserves it as a 'hero.' "
Marcia nodded. "He's becoming a real pain in the neck."
When I talked to Peter, he did seem a lot less modest than he did a week ago. But I've gone through my own "swelled head" phases and I asked Greg and Marcia to try to be patient with him.

I thought Greg and Marcia were exaggerating when they said that Peter's heroism had gone to his head, but then the Blenford Toy Store delivered everything that Peter asked Mrs. Spencer to buy for him. I thought it would be one toy but it was boxes and boxes. Mike and I gave him a talking-to but he didn't understand.
And then the Blenford Bugle reporter and photographer showed up again. Peter has been named the Bugle's Citizen of the Month, which comes with a $50 cash prize! He wants to throw a party with the money this Friday after school, and I reluctantly agreed. After all, it is his money, but I do know that his siblings don't want to go. Presumably his friends will be tempted by the food at least.

Peter has invited me to a party he's throwing on Friday with money the Bugle gave him as Citizen of the Month. I haven't been to a kid's party since before we were rescued, back when all the adults would be invited to the kids' birthdays and stuff. I kind of don't want to go because Peter's been acting so conceited about rescuing that little girl, but I didn't want to be rude and say no. The Skipper's giving me the time off, so I can't use that as an excuse.
April 24, 1970
Well, none of Peter's friends showed up to his party, except reliable Gilligan, but I invited the Spencers, and Mike talked our other children into going. Peter has learned his lesson, and we didn't want all that food to go to waste. Well, Gilligan ate more than his share of course.
