Angels with Newfound Hope

Act 2 Chapter 6: Clue

Alex's Apartment - Day 2, 1:10PM

Alex returned to his apartment with a new depression. He had only finished the first investigation, and was already losing trust with his dragon. There was no way Reza got his hands on a bunch of plasma based bullets, let alone a silencer. He himself never used anything except 5.7 rounds: a far cry from Reza's .44 Colt Army.

"Dammit, why does this have to happen to me? All I wanted was to test this stupid-" The brunette was rudely interrupted by quiet footsteps coming from the bedroom's hallway. He silently made his way to the corner with intent to surprise whomever had broken into his house. A glimpse of a black glove was all he needed to whip them around into a carotid choke.

"Alex, it's me! Take it easy!" The familiar onyx black hair and strained accent of his partner snapped him out of it. He allowed Mongoose to stumble from his grasp and into the sofa.

"Okay, would you please tell me just what you're doing here?!" His words came out in a louder whisper.

"The Administrator decided she wants me out of the picture. Any other questions?" The hispanic stated bluntly, crossing her arms.

"Yeah. Do you know anything about my pistol? I suspect that it or something of its caliber was used in the recent murder today." Her company questioned. The seriousness in his stormy eyes wiped any doubt that could've been present.

"Tell me; how much of what I told you do you recall?" She countered with one of her own, curious as to why he was asking to begin with.

"Everything." Was all he said.

"Good. I'm not sure if you remember your Ruger, but I took it with me on this trip." Mongoose admitted.

"My old sidearm? Wait a moment..." The brunette began pacing, thinking. "If you took it with you... Did the Administrator steal anything?" He pressed urgently.

"I'm... afraid so. That was the very thing. I haven't a clue where it is now." She revealed with great sorrow.

"I think I do. She pulled it on me the night of my arrival. I get the feeling she gave it to Reza now. Either that, or she killed the dragon last night with it to frame me. But I need to get it back regardless. A weapon like that is too dangerous in either of their hands." Alex urged further.

"Then I'll go after that bitch. She had the gall to try and kill me, after all. You focus on Reza in the meantime. Our combined efforts may very well be able to do this." Her encouraging gaze infected the stormy-eyed male. And in turn, he was filled with a little more determination as well.

"Good idea. I know you'll come back safely with my gear in hand. We'd better get started right away." His hardened look spread just as easily to her as it did him.

"Right. But you'd better head to the police station after you get cleaned up. You have the love and trust of a chief to earn back, after all." With that, Mongoose tried to slither back into the bedroom.

"Hey, wait a second." The brunette managed to catch her before she disappeared. "How did you even get in here in the first place?"

"I pried the window open. Hope you don't mind a summer breeze." Her onyx black ponytail disappeared behind the door with a silent 'swoosh' right as her company raised his hand.

Alex was once again alone. His head was ravaged with thoughts. Of Bryce and the last two weeks' events. Like hell if he'd let that night happen again. And like hell if he'd let anyone frame him, intentionally or unintentionally. This case was going to be closed as quickly as possible...
