Story information
Picking up from where we left off. There a stare down "and this shack an't big enough for the two of us" but not to worry no death yet...wait what? Eh don't worry about it, as for story progression I think I'm going to try to aim for at least 3k words on every chapter but if a chapter runs a little long, I will warn you good people.
It's time to come back to our main boy Aris so without further ado, on with the action.
"Who the hell are you?"
That was the first thing Aris said to the main standing in front of him and his shack.
The man responded curtly as if talking was loathsome "you are Aris Ruamont correct?"
The mans tone made it sound less of a question, but Aris responded nonetheless "Yeah I am. So again who the hell are you?" Aris careful lowered his yoke never taking his eyes of the man. This didn't follow the usual pattern. The situation screamed unusable, new things could be dangerous so it would be better to take a moment and think about this. Aris started to mentally go over what he knew so far 'it's not time for next months supply drop, so he isn't from the orphanage...his clothes are something I haven't seen before, so...that gives me no information...he knows my name, so...uhhg again doesn't really limit things down...okay so right now he holds the advantage, but I turn it in my favor by scaring him...yeah that's what I'll do' ending with a internal grin at the plan forming.
"I have come to invite you Hogwarts scho-" started the mysterious man, but was suddenly interrupted by the slamming of the shack door.
Aris used his ability with a quick twist of his hand. Grinning that he had succeeded in cutting the man off with his little stunt. Taking another step forward he looking up at the man, asking "again who are you? And what is your job? You the new exorcist? Cause if you are then you will fail"
Aris was confused, as when he finished the man didn't seem scared. There was a flash of surprise before it quickly turned to annoyance. When people saw what he could do most ran, or cursed him.
The mystery of this man continued to rise, culminating when the man chastised Aris, "boy you will not interrupt me again!"
This was extremely new for Aris. Taking a step back and raising one eyebrow in genuine confusion. Deciding it might be worth it to actually let this man talk, Aris stayed silent waiting for the man to continue.
"As I was saying, you Aris Ruamont have been invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A school of magic and from the looks of your little interruption you at least have some magical aptitude" speaking harshly at first but then leading into a monotone voice. The man reached into his robe and pulled out a envelop and rather intricate stick. The man pointed the stick at the envelope then at Aris. The envelopes he slowly hovered over the Aris.
That single action changed everything about the interaction in Aris's mind. He felt as though he couldn't speak, dropping the book he held, all that he could do was just think a single sentence getting louder each time 'he..h-he's...like me! He's like me!' Numbly he reacted out and took the envelope. Not noticing that his serpents had taken it upon themselves to keep an eye on the mysterious man. Nor did Aris see the true look of surprise on the man's face when two serpents emerged from his hair and slowly started to hiss in the man's direction.
Envelope had a red wax seal on it that was in the shape of a crest divided into four parts: a lion, a raven, a badger and a snake. Opening it up held two piece of parchment. On the first one it read:
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First class, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confederation of Wizards)
Dear Mr. Aris Ruamont
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on 1 September. We await your response by no later than 31 July.
The staff member who presented you with this letter is here to explain what going to our school entails.
Sincerely Headmaster Albus Dumbledore
Shifting over the first letter to the second one, provided the list on needed materials. Such materials included the requirements for the uniform, eight required textbooks, a cauldron, the option of glass or crystal phials, telescope, brass scales, a wand and the option of pet from the choice of rat, toad, or owl.
Before any other thought could enter his mind Aris looked up from the letter and spoke with more determination in his life, "yes, yes let's go now"
After speaking Aris finally noticed the constant hissing beside his ears.
"Isn't it exciting!"
"Keep an eye out Aris, you still don't know who this person is"
Conceding to their points, Aris replied, "True I will find out more about him, but this is my chance! To learn more about my ability...no my magic...ah that word feels so right!"
"You are a Parseltongue it seems" the man interrupted.
"Parseltongue?" Questioned Aris.
"Yes it means you have the ability to speak the serpents tongue, and my name is Severus Snape I am the Potions Professor at Hogwarts" explained the man dressed in black whom was now identified as Severus Snape.
Aris got the feeling that this man, Severus, was the type to demand certain decorum. Deciding to try and fix his first impression, of the only other person he had ever seen use magic. Aris asked, "okay before I ask any more questions, how do you want me to address you?"
"Mmm seeing as you are interested in join the school, you will address me as Professor Snape or sir" clarified the now dubbed Professor Snape. "And I would request you release your pet serpents as they will not be allowed at Hogwarts" he furthered.
Hearing that dropped Aris smile. Responding immediately to what he would say is a stupid request, "no Professor Snape. I won't do that" seeing the mans brow furrowed, Aris quickly added "they are not pets, they are a part of me" Aris quickly lifted up his hair and turned his body to show the connection.
Turning back to the Professor, Aris saw he held a expression he didn't recognize. Prodding further about what Aris could only guess was a terrible truth, "I'm not normal am I even for a wizard, am I Professor Snape?"
The silence was palpable. Truly agonizing for Aris, who couldn't help but think the worst, 'damnit am I going to be rejected? Am I that much of a freak that even magical people don't want me?' Continuing to stew in his darkening thoughts.
Pulling Aris away from his thoughts, Snape broke the painful silence "yes, I have never seen someone of your kind. I assume you don't know what kind of half-breed you are?"
"No not really, my best guess is a Gorgon if those even exist, all I know about them comes from this book" Aris told Snape, picking back up the book he was reading earlier that day to show Snape.
"Yes they do exist but are rarely seen, as for the validity of you being a half Gorgon it should be clear once you are checked at St. Mungo's" Snape reluctantly replied, as if it was physically demanding to keep answering questions. He gazed back at the shack before questioning Aris origin, asking about when he came to the muggle orphanage. He also explained that a muggle was a non-magical person and why it would be strange for a half-breed to be in a muggle orphanage.
"I came here when I was seven" Aris supplied.
"And before that boy? And you should reply with sir to your male elders boy" Snape chastised.
Aris looked away for a moment in embarrassment, before mumbling "...I don't...know...sir"
which was evidently not the answer the Professor was looking for. As Snape immediately snapped back, "are you stupid boy?"
Angered by being talked down too, Aris stared back with a louder retort, "what?! No I just can't remember anything before I came to the orphanage, it's just all blank!"
Looking back at the man Aris felt the smallest bit uncomfortable, but couldn't explain the reason. The feeling started to make him feel dazed. Aris was pulled out of his state when one of his snakes bit him on the ear just enough for it to be painful. Leading him to hear the mad hissing that was still ongoing.
"Focus! Don't get distracted, something didn't feel right"
"Be more careful!"
Aris didn't know how his snakes could tell, but was glad nonetheless. Taking a chance to figure out what was happening, Aris asked the only person available. "What was that? Why did I feel dazed sir? My snakes told me it wasn't natural, were you using magic on me sir?" His tone didn't show signs of hostility or fear, but curiosity.
The Professor didn't answer for a while. Possibly contemplating something, looking Aris up and down before arriving at some decision "yes I was..." at the admittance Aris eyebrows rose up. Snape sighed before continuing "it appears that it would be best if we went to St. Mungo's today. Come here boy" seeing that Aris not move Snape pushed again "if you actually wish to attend Hogwarts, we will be heading to St. Mungo's today to understand more about your condition"
"Okay Professor" Aris declared. Making the choice was quite easy, there was truly nothing here that needed him to stay and if leaving could help get answers and ensure he could go to this school. Then it was simple. Aris stepped to where Snape wanted him. Which was beside the man. Snape took a quick look both ways before turning to Aris and warning him "brace yourself"
Then there was a loud cracking sound. Everything started to look like it twisted and shrunk before it all went black. Aris felt like he was being stretched apart and just before he felt like he was going to tare, it stoped. All that was left in front of the shack was a book that dropped to the ground. Leaving no other trace behind.
O-O-O-O
Stumbling Aris attempted to get his bearings. He felt like he was going to be sick but he hadn't eating anything yet so he was lucky nothing came up. His serpents were whipping there heads around trying to figure out where they were now.
After a minute of breathing, Aris finally felt good enough to look around himself. What he saw was an alleyway with dark brown and red bricks making up the walls.
Aris looked up after hearing Professor Snape call for him to follow. Exiting the alleyway, they came up to old department building that looked condemned. The area which would have once held windows were bricked up. Wood planks boarded up the door. Across the top was a plaque that read: Purge and Dowse, Ltd.
Seeing that this was not the St.Mungo's place Snape spoke of, Aris looked at him curiously asking why they had stopped at such a location. Professor Snape looked at him and told him to hid his snakes, lest they want to draw everyone's attention. Aris huffed in response and without moving a hand, let his snakes tie back his hair into a lose ponytail with the snakes wrapped around acting like a hair band. Once finished Snape nodded and moved to the large window that reached the ground. And walked directly threw the bricks blocking the view inside. Letting himself be surprise for a second Aris quickly walked through the same bricks, without hesitation.
The bricks acted as if never there leaving no resistance. The last thing seen in the street was the gentle ripple on the bricks as if they were water, before the bricks returned to their solid state.
On the other side of the bricks was a much larger interior, too larger to fit into the building outside. The interior looked to be a reception area with numerous people sitting on benches with newspaper, and others being led further in. Some people had large deformities like extra limbs, rapidly changing skin colors. Even one person with webbed feet and what seemed to be a penguin face but with human ears. There was another group of people all wearing the same uniform, consisting of lime-green robes.
Taking a closer look around Aris saw that the newspapers people were holding had moving pictures on the front. The people in line-green robes also had an emblem on their lapels. The emblem was a wand and a bone crossing each other making a cross. Notably the same emblem was largely displayed on the back wall with the accompanied words St. Mungo's Hospital.
Snape turned to Aris and told him, "Now that you are finished looking around. It is time for you to get ready for your check up, follow" they strutted up to large curved desk that had stretched most of the back wall. Finding one open receptionist among multitude of other works behind the desk.
Professor Snape greeted the receptionist with small cough. The young woman looked up from her paperwork and smiled. She spoke in a soft relaxed voice that startled Aris for a moment, as he had gotten so used to the shrill old voice of the orphanage's matron. He couldn't remember the last time a human spoke to him with any type of kindness. The nurse asked for their reason of visit. Snape replying about needing a full checkup for Aris and requested the an expert in exotic half-breeds or creatures specialists and a mind-healer present. The first request made sense to Aris but the second he couldn't understand yet.
The lady marked down the necessary information only pausing to ask for Aris's full name. Aris game his name which gifted him a smile from the woman. Again shocking him quite. She then directed him and Snape to wait on one of the benches till someone comes and retrieved them. She then took her paper work and walked back into an elevator. A single chime before the doors closed and she disappeared from sight.
Aris sat on the bench beside one Severus Snape and no one else. After a second Aris turned to his future Professor and asked something that had been bugging him for a while now, "Professor Snape before you seemed surprised that I was a Parseltongue before you saw my snakes, why is that? Is it uncommon among magicals?"
The man in question paused reading his newspaper he had picked up upon sitting down. Only moving his eyes to Aris, no moving any other part of his body and confirm the assumption, "yes it is a highly uncommon skill normally only seen in specific bloodlines, but seeing your condition I doubt that"
Somewhat satisfied with that answer, Aris let the silence continue. After a minute Aris looked at the front page of a newspaper beside him and saw the tag line "people prepare for the upcoming school year, still unheard of The-Boy-who-lived will be attending Hogwarts this coming year." Leading to another bout of curiosity. Who was this boy and why was he so famous? Aris turned to the only person he knew who could answer him and asked "Professor who is this famous boy-who-lived? And why do people care if he goes to Hogwarts?" The first question seemed to anger Snape but upon hearing the second one, He relented somewhat. Folding the paper and placing it in his lap. Tightened his jaw before responding "your first question I won't dignify with a response, if your curious just ask any random gawking buffoon. As for your other question which holds an iota of worth, again because people are gawking buffoons"
Aris frowned hearing the response. About to ask why it was so stupid, Aris was interrupted by a man in the lime-green robes signify him a worker. The man greeted them.
"Hello welcome to St. Mungo's, its time for your checkup"
