The next morning, Oliver was in his room with a news report on his computer. "Attorney for shipping magnate Martin Somers confirmed his client has no intention of testifying, maintaining innocence in the death of Victor Nocenti. Nocenti's body was found four weeks ago. We'll keep you updated as information becomes available" the reporter on the tv said. Oliver shook his head. He made himself very clear that night that he visited Somers. He guessed would have to pay him another visit. This time he would be prepared for that woman. Oliver looked over to his computer. China White. She is an assassin for hire. Somers must have hired her after Oliver's visit with him. Oliver looked at his back in the mirror. He had done a pretty crappy job stitching himself up but he did the best he could considering he got stabbed in the back. It hurt but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. He was used to this pain. This was nothing.
Oliver started putting his shirt on as Thea walked into the room. She stared at Oliver's body in shock. "Wait, how did you get those" Thea asked walking up to Oliver.
"Don't you knock" Oliver asked annoyed.
"No wait mom said that there were scars" Thea said pulling back Oliver's shirt revealing the scars on his body. She looked at them still in shock. "Oliver what happened to you out there" Thea asked.
Oliver just shook his head. "I don't want to talk about it" Oliver said buttoning up his shirt.
Thea sighed frustrated. "Of course you don't. You never want to talk to me about anything except for my social life" Thea said starting to walk out of the room.
"Wait" Oliver said and Thea stopped. She sighed. "Where are you going" he asked.
"Why should I tell you" she asked.
"I'm sorry Thea" Oliver said walking closer to his sister. Thea just glared at him. "You're right. I need to get better at talking about what happened to me there but I'm not ready yet. OK" Oliver said.
"Do you have a second" Thea asked.
"Yea" Oliver answered.
"Good" Thea said nodding. "I want to show you something out back" Thea said leaving the room. Oliver shut off his tv. He turned back to his computer. He saved the files he had gotten on China White and sent them to his email. He would have to look at that later. Right now he needed to talk with Thea. He hoped they could reach a place where there wasn't so much tension between them. He hated that Thea was mad at him but it was hard for him to open up about what happened while he was on the island. He was even struggling to do it with Felicity. He knew he needed to but it was hard for him. What if they couldn't accept the man he was now or even worse what if they did accept it and they got hurt because of it? He couldn't let that happen. He couldn't keep everyone at arm's length either though. He had to find some way to open up to them without them getting hurt in the process. He grabbed his jacket and followed Thea.
"Sometimes when I felt whatever I'd come here" Thea said pointing to Robert's gravestone. She knelt down and brushed some leaves off it. "About a month after the funeral mom stopped going out" Thea said. Oliver looked down out her not saying a word. "Pretty soon she stopped talking altogether" Thea said standing back up. "The house got so quiet so I'd come here" she said walking over to the gravestone next to their father's. "To talk to you" she said pointing at Oliver's gravestone. Oliver looked at it sadly then looked at his sister. "Stupid stuff. Like what I was doing that day, what boy I had a crush on and then sometimes I'd ask you, beg you, to find your way home to me" Thea said. Oliver just continued to look at his sister without saying anything. "Now here you are and the truth is, I felt closer to you when you were dead" she said. Oliver looked away from his siter. "Look I know it was hell where you were but it was hell here too. You've got to let me in Ollie. You've got to let someone in" Thea said.
At Tommy and Laurel's apartment, Tommy walked into his and Laurel's bedroom. He opened his drawer with his underwear which Laurel never went into and took out the envelope he had gotten from Martin Somers. He looked at the door to make sure Laurel wasn't coming. She was busy making breakfast for them and Becca. Tommy sat on the edge of the bed and opened the envelope and looked through the papers. He smiled. Every shady business deal his father had ever been apart of was in here. Perfect. This would be enough to bring his father down once and for all. His phone beeped. Tommy looked at the nightstand next to the bed. He had found his phone last night. He looked at the phone which showed he had a text message from Martin Somers. I held up my end of the deal. Now get your wife off my back. The text message said. "Tommy breakfast is ready" he heard Laurel call. Tommy put the papers back in the envelope, hid it in his drawer and walked out of the room.
Tommy walked up to his daughter in her highchair and kissed her head. "Morning princess" he said.
Becca smiled at her father. "Dadda" she babbled with eggs in her mouth.
Tommy laughed at his daughter. He walked over to Laurel and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Happy anniversary" he said.
Laurel smiled at him. "Happy anniversary" she said kissing him. Tommy sat down at the table and started eating his breakfast. Laurel sighed and sat down. She looked at Tommy who was eating his food and tickling their daughter. They had to talk tonight at their anniversary dinner about what Tommy was doing. She had Felicity connect her phone to Tommy's so that she could see what he was doing. She had gotten that text message from Martin Somers on her phone too. She knew it was wrong but she also knew he wasn't being honest with her about what he was doing. She didn't want to lose him. This was what she had to do.
"Felicity and Sara said they would come over tonight to babysit for us" Laurel said.
Tommy looked at his wife surprised. "I'm surprised they'd rather babysit than hang out with Oliver and Ava" he said.
Laurel nodded her head. "Ava has to work tonight and Felicity said Oliver has been distant with her ever since he was in court. They're both free tonight" she said.
Tommy nodded. "So tonight's casual. We're not going anywhere too fancy but it is a place that is special to both of us" Tommy said.
Laurel faked a smile. "Can't wait" she said. The truth was for the first time since they had been together she was dreading an anniversary dinner. They had a lot to talk about and Tommy wasn't going to like it. Tommy got up and put his plate in the sink and started to walk out of the kitchen when Laurel grabbed his arm. He stopped and looked at her. "I love you" she said.
Tommy smiled at her and gave her a kiss. "I love you too" he said.
That night, Felicity and Sara had come to watch Becca while Tommy and Laurel left for their date. Laurel didn't really talk the whole car ride. She was too busy thinking. She couldn't believe Tommy was getting involved with criminals and he had made a deal with Martin Somers to get Laurel to drop the case. This was all too much and she had to talk to Tommy about it. Tommy grabbed Laurel's hand snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked at him. "Are you OK? You've been quiet ever since we left the apartment" he said.
Laurel smiled and nodded her head. "I just got a lot on my mind" she said.
"Don't worry. Felicity and Sara are more than capable of watching Becca for one night" he said.
Laurel nodded her head. "I know. My sister's will take good care of Becca. It's just that a lot is happening at work with this Martin Somers case" she said.
"Maybe you should cut back a little. Maybe you should give the case to someone else" Tommy said.
"Why would I do that? I've worked hard to get where I am. Why would I just give this case to someone else" Laurel asked.
"This case is putting our family in danger. We can't leave the apartment without someone following us. We can't even enjoy our anniversary dinner without one of them following us" Tommy said motioning to the car that was following behind them.
Laurel moved her hand out of Tommy's. "I'm not dropping this case just because you ask. Martin Somers doesn't scare me" she said.
"What about Becca? If he were to send someone after you, like your father thinks he will, she could get caught in the crossfire" Tommy said.
Laurel shook her head. That was low of Tommy using their daughter against her like that. "I can protect our daughter if I have to. Becca will be fine and my father's overreacting. Martin Somers isn't sending anyone after me" Laurel said.
Tommy sighed and nodded. "I don't want to fight with you Laurel especially not tonight just be careful" Tommy said.
Tommy and Laurel arrived at where they were going and Laurel got out of the car surprised. It was The Catchy Tune. The karaoke bar where they had their first date. Laurel looked over at Tommy surprised. Tommy walked up to Laurel and took her in his arms. "I wanted to come back where we had our first date. I love you Laurel and tonight is all about us" Tommy said.
Laurel kissed him. "This is incredibly sweet Tommy. I love you" Laurel said. She was still mad about everything Tommy was doing behind her back and the conversation they just had in the car but she had to admit this was really cute and thoughtful.
Tommy looked over at the two cops in their car. "Do you think we can get them to stay out here" he asked.
Laurel shook her head. "I don't think that's how it works. They're going to follow us inside" she said. Tommy sighed and took Laurel's hand leading her inside. They had a lot to talk about and unfortunately it was going to ruin their night.
They walked in and were immediately seated. Laurel looked around. "This place hasn't changed a bit" she said sitting down.
Tommy nodded as he sat down too. "It really hasn't. I was surprised to find out this place was still in business. When I did I knew we had to come here" he said.
Laurel smiled at him. "You remember our first date here" she asked.
Tommy nodded. "We were in high school. I took you here because I thought it was a romantic restaurant only to find out it was a karaoke bar. I was so embarrassed" he said.
Laurel laughed. "We got really drunk and got up on stage and sang some Dolly Parton song" she said.
Tommy laughed embarrassed. "9 to 5. I remember thinking it was some romantic song" he said.
"Why was that again" Laurel asked.
Tommy shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. I was really drunk and obviously I wasn't thinking straight. We were horrible" he said.
"I think the crowd felt sorry for us because they cheered" she said. An idea suddenly hit Laurel. She grabbed Tommy's hands.
"What are you doing" Tommy asked as Laurel pulled Tommy out of his seat.
"We're going on stage to sing 9 to 5 just like we did back then" she said.
Tommy shook his head. "I am not nearly drunk enough for that and seeing as how I don't drink anymore there's no way I'm doing that" Tommy said.
Laurel put on a sad face she knew Tommy couldn't resist. "Please it'll be fun. I promise" she said.
Tommy sighed and relented. "You're lucky I love you" he said. Laurel kissed him on the cheek and excitedly ran up to the stage. She grabbed a mic and Tommy. He got up on stage and she handed him the mic. They started to sing 9 to 5 just like they did when they were in high school only this time they were sober. They sounded just as bad. When they were done the crowd cheered for them. Tommy and Laurel laughed walking back to their seats.
"We haven't got an better" Laurel said.
"I think we actually sounded better drunk" Tommy said. They both started laughing.
"Tommy I have to tell you something" Laurel said taking Tommy's hand from across the table.
Tommy nodded. "You know you can tell me anything" he said.
Laurel took a deep breath. "Your phone didn't go missing. I took it" she said.
Tommy looked at his wife confused. "Why would you do that" he asked.
Laurel closed her eyes for a second and nodded. "I know you've been lying to me about what you've been doing and how you make your money. I needed to know Tommy. I love you" Laurel said.
Tommy pulled his hand out of Laurel's. "So what you've been spying on me" he asked.
"I had to know and you weren't going to tell me the truth. I had Felicity connect your phone to mime so any calls or messages you get to your phone I also get. I saw that message you got this morning from Martin Somers" Laurel said.
Tommy was angry now. "So you had Felicity hack my phone" he asked.
Laurel nodded. "She didn't want to but she did for me" she said.
"So what I can't have privacy anymore" Tommy asked.
Laurel shook her head. "Not when your doing stuff that is incredibly dangerous and dealing with people you shouldn't be" Laurel said feeling herself getting even madder than she already was.
Tommy rolled his eyes. "All that matters is I'm making money. It doesn't matter how" he said.
"It does if your doing anything illegal. What have you had to do to get the money you get" she asked.
"Just some errands. Nothing too bad" Tommy said.
"What kind of errands" Laurel asked.
Tommy shook his head. "Don't worry about it. All that matters is that I'm able to support you and Becca" he said.
Laurel shook her head. "If that really was all that mattered you would have taken the job that Felicity offered you" she said.
Tommy rolled his eyes. "Yea sure because that's not pathetic at all. Having to take charity from my sister in law. Oh but hey it would have made it easier for you guys to spy on me then which is what you really want isn't it" he asked.
"What I want is to know that my husband is safe and isn't doing anything that will put him, me or our daughter in danger. Besides Felicity's offer wasn't charity. She knew you needed a job and just wanted to help" Laurel said.
Tommy rolled his eyes again. "Yea because I'm sure you didn't make me sound pathetic to your sister" he said.
Laurel looked at him shocked. "What is that supposed to mean" she asked.
"It means you're whole family thinks I'm a screw up and you don't help the situation by telling them I'm not man enough to support my own family" Tommy said.
Laurel shook her head. "I've never said that" she said.
"You didn't have to" he said.
"What are you talking about" Laurel asked.
Tommy got up from his seat. "You know what forget it. This wound up being a crappy anniversary anyway" Tommy said leaving the bar. Laurel followed after him. She wasn't just going to let him walk away from her.
"Tommy wait. Tell me what you're talking about" Laurel yelled to Tommy once they were outside in the parking lot.
"Forget it Laurel" Tommy said.
"No I won't forget it. Obviously you have something to say so just say it" Laurel said.
"Fine. Do you know how embarrassing it is to have to know that I can't support my own family? That I have to rely on my wife for the financial support. So you know what I found away to make money. Is it the most legal way? No but hey at least now I can say I'm pulling my weight" he said.
"What by working for killers and drug lords? Yea you're really helping this family by putting us in danger" Laurel said.
Tommy scoffed. "You're such a hypocrite. Look around Laurel. These cops are here because YOU pissed off Martin Somers not me. The reason there's any danger at all for our family is because of YOU" Tommy yelled.
Laurel stood there hurt. "I'll have Greg bring me home. Find somewhere else to stay tonight" she said.
"Whatever" Tommy said getting in his car and driving off.
About an hour later, Oliver walked down the hall to Tommy and Laurel's apartment. He had heard about the fight from Tommy who his mother was letting stay with them for the night. Tommy only gave him minimal details only telling him that Laurel ruined their anniversary. Oliver tried pushing for more information but Tommy wouldn't give him any. He was being very closed off to Oliver which wasn't like Tommy at all and it sucked. Is this how he was treating everyone? Since he wasn't getting any information from Tommy Oliver decided to go see Laurel. Since everyone insisted he needed a bodyguard he let Diggle know where he was going. When he arrived there he saw the police cars outside. What was going on? Had he been that out of the loop? He knocked on the door and waited for an answer. Laurel answered the door. Oliver could tell she had been crying. "Hi. Are you OK? There are three cop cars outside" Oliver said.
"Did Tommy send you" Laurel asked.
"No" Oliver said.
"What are you doing here Oliver" Laurel asked.
"Tommy's staying at my mom's house and he said something about some sort of fight you guys had so I just wanted to make sure you were OK" he said.
"I'm fine" Laurel said.
"That's good" Oliver said awkwardly. Laurel thought for a moment and looked back in her apartment. She sighed and moved out of the way to let Oliver in. Oliver walked in. "Thank you" he said.
"Oliver" he heard someone call from deeper in the apartment. He would know that voice anywhere. He turned and saw Felicity standing there.
"Felicity, what are you doing here" Oliver asked.
Felicity looked at Laurel confused. "Me, Laurel and Sara were having a girls night. Me and Sara thought Laurel could use it" Felicity said.
Oliver looked between Felicity and Laurel. "Oh I'm sorry. I don't want to interrupt anything" Oliver said.
"Nonsense. You can join girls night" Sara said coming out from the other room pulling Oliver over to the couch.
"Look guys if you want to be alone…" Oliver started to say but Laurel interrupted him.
"No you're fine Oliver. I'm actually happy to see you. It feels good to not have to talk about my crap with Tommy" Laurel said.
Sara pushed Oliver onto the couch. "No relationship drama between the two of you. I don't want that interrupting girls night" Sara said looking between Oliver and Felicity while Laurel went to the kitchen.
Felicity shook her head. "There's no relationship drama between us" Felicity said.
Sara nodded. "Well let's keep it that way. Only one Lance sister can have relationship issues at a time" she said. Both Oliver and Felicity nodded. "Also if you guys can't help yourselves Felicity knows where the bathroom is. Just don't be too loud" Sara said. Felicity threw a pillow at Sara.
"Sara, Becca is in the other room" Laurel said from the kitchen.
"Sleeping and even if she was awake she wouldn't know what I was talking about" she said.
"Do you want some ice cream" Laurel asked coming back in from the kitchen.
Oliver nodded his head. "Sure" he said. Laurel handed him a tub of ice cream with a spoon. "Thanks" he said as Felicity sat next to him with her tub of ice cream. "So this is what you guys do in girls night? Eat ice cream" Oliver asked taking a bite of his ice cream.
"When one of us is going through relationship issues like Laurel is then yes" Sara said sitting on the floor.
Laurel sat in the chair next to the couch. "I don't want to talk about mine and Tommy's issues anymore" she said.
"This is as good as I remember" Oliver said putting the tub and spoon down on the table.
"So Oliver what's going on with you" Laurel asked.
"My mother wants me to join the company. Yea take my rightful place" Oliver said.
Felicity's face lit up. "That's great Oliver" she said.
"I'm sorry Oliver but I really can't picture you as master of the universe" Sara said.
"Neither can I" Laurel said.
"You know after five years I have plans. I have things that I have to do. I can't do that if I'm… I don't know. Attending board meetings and stockholder briefings" Oliver said.
"Oliver look at me" Felicity said. Oliver looked at Felicity. "If you don't want to do it just tell your mother no" Felicity said.
"I tried. It didn't take. You know how my mother is" Oliver said.
"Well then don't tell her. Show her. Be the person you want her to see you as" Laurel said.
"I say you just do what you want regardless of what she says. Trust us we have plenty of experience with disapproving parents" Sara said.
"I have been on the receiving end of your father's disapproval" Oliver said nodding.
"Yea sorry about that Oliver. He's just being overprotective but he'll get over it" Felicity said.
"I wish he would learn to get over it with Tommy" Laurel said.
Just then Oliver heard a noise outside. "Did you guys hear that" Oliver asked. Felicity, Laurel and Sara looked around.
"What" Laurel asked. Oliver looked over toward the window. Felicity Laurel and Sara all turned their heads to the window.
While they weren't looking Oliver grabbed the knife that was on the table. "There's someone on the fire escape" Oliver said standing up.
"Wait what" Felicity asked.
Oliver pulled Felicity up. "Hey come on. Come on" Oliver yelled pulling Felicity with him toward the front door. All of a sudden someone broke down the door. Oliver stopped with Felicity.
Laurel ran to Becca's room and picked up her daughter. She started crying. "Shhh it's OK. You're OK" Laurel said soothingly. Oliver pulled Felicity deeper into the apartment as the man started shooting at them. They ran further into the apartment. Laurel came out of the room with Becca and her and Sara followed Oliver and Felicity into Tommy and Laurel's room. Another man jumped through the window in front of Oliver. They all ran out of the bedroom. The other man started shooting at them again.
Oliver continued to pull Felicity with but stopped when they reached the kitchen . He was shocked to see the woman he went up against the night before, China White, standing there. She had to knives in her hand and smiled sinisterly at Oliver. A man behind Oliver cocked his gun. They were trapped. Oliver was going to have no choice but to let Felicity Laurel and Sara see what he could do. He had to protect Felicity no matter what even if it meant losing her forever. All of a sudden someone shot the guy with the gun. He fell to the floor dead. China ran out of the kitchen as Diggle ran into the apartment. He shot the other guy who fell to the floor dead. Laurel held Becca close to her trying to calm her down as she was screaming loudly. Oliver watched as China attacked Diggle knocking the gun out of his hands. Oliver watched as they started to fight. He had to make sure Diggle didn't get hurt. Oliver wanted to help but he couldn't in front of Felicity and her sisters.
Oliver ran out of the room as China got the upper hand over Diggle. She got on top of him and was about to stab him when Oliver threw the knife at her. It hit the knife in her hand and she dropped it. China ran out of the apartment. Oliver watched her wanting to chase after her but he couldn't. Felicity ran up to Oliver and hugged him tightly. Oliver hugged her back. Diggle picked up his gun and looked at the front door. "Are you guys hurt" Diggle asked.
Oliver shook his head. "No" he said.
"We're fine" Sara said.
"Just a little shaken up" Laurel said looking at her screaming daughter in her arms thankful nothing happened to her. She didn't know what she would do if anything were to happen to Becca.
"Are you hurt Ms. Lance" Diggle asked Felicity.
"No. No" Felicity said holding onto Oliver for dear life.
"This is why it's a good idea to have a bodyguard" Diggle said running out of the apartment. They heard sirens outside but Oliver didn't care about that. All he cared about was making sure Felicity was OK. He pulled back and checked Felicity to see if there were any scars or anything on her.
"Hey are you OK" Oliver asked.
Felicity nodded. "Yea I'm fine" she said. She hugged Oliver again and he wrapped his arms around her again. This was the second time he had been surprised by China White. There wouldn't be a third.
