Title: What It Takes

Category: Fluff, drabble/ficlet
Warnings: None really. It's fluff.
Pairing: 1+2+1
Notes: Beta-ed by FantasyOrReality. This came to me as I was making my bed tonight. On a side note: I have the all-natural beechwood fiber sheets that I mention here. They are the softest things ever. And all knowledge I owe to working in a Linens n' Things when I was younger. I hope you all enjoy the fluff on this wonderful Monday morning.
Heero and Duo stood in the bedding section of the local domestic department store. Duo was studying sheets while Heero looked on, unresponsive.
"Heero, come on! You have had the same sheets for as long as I have known you," Duo whined, but only a little. His slender fingers played gently with a sample of jersey knit fabric.
"My sheets are completely serviceable," Heero pointed out.
"They're percale, Heero. Fucking low thread count, white percale sheets! Unimaginative, boring, and damned uncomfortable to boot! Those are soldier's sheets, Heero. We ain't fighting anymore. Time for something new."
"They are bleachable and washable and easy to match to whatever blanket I am using," Heero explained.
"That's another thing! You need a comforter. No! A duvet cover. We'll get you a down comforter and a suede duvet cover," Duo's eyes lit up. Heero started to wonder why the hell he had agreed to this trip.
"I have a blanket already."
"You have a shred of a blanket."
"What exactly do you want from me, Duo? I was raised as a soldier. I fought as a soldier. Now I still live as one. It's a hard habit to break, but I am not uncomfortable. Now, what exactly do you want me to do? I am not exactly knowledgeable about this kind of thing," Heero sighed and looked around. Nothing to sit on. He resigned himself to simply leaning against the display behind him of all-natural beechwood fiber sheets.
Duo looked around and thought about his fantasies: Heero curled up in flannel? Heero spread out over satin? Heero tangled up in silk? Duo knew that voicing those thoughts would get him nowhere fast right now. He thought about Heero's question and answered honestly.
"Heero, you haven't dated or slept with anyone in your life, I bet. Do you really want to bring someone home with you so that they can sleep on percale with a threadbare blanket and one pillow?"
Heero thought about that carefully, "It makes a difference?"
"Yes, Heero. Take me for instance. I can sleep just about anywhere. But if I am making love, I love the feel of five-hundred-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets. It is so soft, and it feels like I am sleeping on a cloud. And firm feather pillows. And a fluffy comforter that feels like a warm barrier from everything outside of it," Duo was lost in thought about his dream bed and did not even notice Heero push away from the beechwood and come to stand next to him. Duo snapped back into focus when Heero placed one of his hands on Duo's shoulder.
"Well, that makes it a whole lot easier. I will take these white, five-hundred-thread-count Egyptian Cotton sheets, this Navy blue down comforter, and two of these expensive pillows," Heero grabbed each item as he said it, and placed it in their cart.
"Heero! You should get what you want for your bed! I was just saying that I would like something like that!" Duo was shocked to see the items sitting in the cart.
"I am getting something I want for my bed," Heero smirked.
"How? What?" Duo was confused.
"If this is the kind of stuff I have to buy to get you into my bed then so be it," Heero pushed the cart away.
"…."
"Are you coming?" Heero asked, looking over his shoulder.
"Not yet!" Duo laughed and jogged after Heero with a bright smile on his face.
-The End-
