Sileny took one last look in the mirror. For someone who normally had little self-confidence, she actually thought she looked beautiful for once. Her light brown hair was tightly curled, and pinned back on one side with an elegant clip. Her make-up was perfectly dramatic, yet subtle. And her dress, the most important part of the ensemble, was black, floor-length, spaghetti-strapped, and quite slimming. Even though she didn't have a date for the prom, it was going to be a great night. She was determined to have a good time.

Just as she was leaving her room her best friends, Blaine and Jamie, arrived. The two of them were already all over each other before they even got to the door." Great" she whispered to herself. The only thing that could spoil her night was being a third wheel to the perfect couple. Sitting by herself while they danced and forgot about her until they needed a ride home. Jamie and Blaine were her best friends, but when they were together they certainly had a way of forgetting Sileny existed. "But that won't happen tonight" she whispered to herself, smiling and trying to be positive.

On the way to the hotel that the prom was to be held at, the couple sat in the back seat while Sileny drove, taking painful notice to the empty seat next to her. When they arrived Blaine got out of the car first and opened the door for Jamie. They kissed for the millionth time, and walked inside. Sileny got out of the car and walked, as always, behind her friends.

She sat by herself for a few minutes, and no one had asked her to dance yet. A frustrated sigh escaped her lips before she realized how annoyed she really was. It was going to be just as lonely as she had guessed. That's the price of being shy: no one knew who you were, no one asked you to the prom, no one asked you to dance.

And that's when she saw him. He seemed to command the attention of the room. He was tall, with dark hair that was slicked back smoothly, and piercing green eyes that seemed to call to her. But his face was covered by a mask. The theme of the prom wasn't masquerade, as Sileny had wanted it to be, so why was he wearing a mask? Who was he? It couldn't possibly be…

Suddenly she realized he was walking toward her! There were over a hundred girls there, but he was walking to her. He continued walking slowly and gracefully, his eyes fixed on her. Sileny wasn't used to getting this much attention, so she was slightly embarrassed, but she couldn't look away from him. The mysterious stranger finally approached her. He said nothing, but simply held out his hand. Caught in his hypnotizing presence, she took his hand without question.
