RWBY Reacts to Yu-Gi-Oh 5d's Dubbed
Episode 1 – On Your Mark, Get Set, DUEL!
The camera spun around the skyscraper and showed a view of New Domino City. The camera then quickly zoomed into a massive arena near the ocean.
"Wait a second…" Weiss began before giving their guest a look. "The show you want to marathon is a cartoon? Really?"
Saixus went into education-mode. "Okay first off, it's not a cartoon, it's an anime, there's a difference. Second off, this is just the way this universe looks and lastly, did you not hear me say I watched this show when I was younger. What did you think I watched during that time? Game of Thrones?"
"I don't even know what that is!" Weiss stated.
"Then consider yourself lucky." Saixus said a little sourly. "Nothing hurts more than going through an awesome and emotional series only for the final season to completely suck."
Blake, who has read many different books, agreed with the visitor wholeheartedly.
The arena was filled with fans as a giant holographic sphere shined in the middle of it showing the image of a card. An announcer spoke up through the speakers of the arena. "Duelists young and old, professional and amateur alike, it's the moment you've been waiting for! So make some noise, for the number one ranked Turbo-Duelist in the world, Jack Atlas!"
Jack Atlas appeared in the stadium as he practically flew into the air on his one-wheeled motorcycle.
The second Jack showed up on his Duel-Runner, Yang got a big smirk on her face. "Is this a show about motorcycles? Please tell me this is a show about motorcycles!"
"They are a pretty big part of the story, yes." Saixus answered as Yang now looked way more interested in this show then she already was.
"What kind of motorcycle is that?!" Weiss couldn't help but question the Duel-Runner's design. "The color's fine but why does it only have one giant wheel? How can he even see what's in front of him?!"
"Who cares about practicality?" Yang asked the heiress sarcastically. "It looks awesome as hell!"
Weiss face-palmed, she should have known the blond-brawler wouldn't question the machine's design.
"Look at all those people!" Ruby's full attention was on the screen. "This arena may be even bigger then Amity Colosseum!"
"It's a cartoon you dolt." Weiss stated which caused Saixus' eye to twitch. "None of it is real."
"Did you already forget our host said this anime shows the past of some other universe?" Blake asked the Schnee. "I don't think he was lying about that."
"I didn't, this does show the past of another world." He answered happy that someone got the genre right. "More specifically, it's showing the past of the Yu-Gi-Oh 5d's dubbed-universe."
"Then it is real!" Ruby said excitingly. "So what are they gonna do in this arena?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Yang said to her half-sister. "This Jack-person is obviously some sort of racing champion! He's probably gonna race against some other racers to protect his title!"
"Why was there a card projected on the screen though?" Blake asked. "A card seems like a weird symbol for a racing-contest. And did that announcer say Turbo-Duelist? What's up with that?"
"That's probably just what they call motorcycle-racers in that universe." Yang waved her off.
Jack Atlas landed on the track as the announcer continued talking. "As he looks to add to his unbeaten-streak today, one begs the question, can anyone take this man down?"
Jack raced on the track for a little while before pointing his hand in the air and yelled "What say we kick this turbo-duel into overdrive!"
The crowd cheered at their champion's catchphrase.
Weiss pinched her nose. "Please don't tell me this guy has a catchphrase…"
Yang was starting to like this Jack-character and decided to take a crack at Weiss. "Come on Ice Queen. Don't tell me you don't like this guy? I think you two have a lot in common. After all, his last name is literally that of your home-city."
Weiss blinked as she remembered that the guy was indeed called Jack ATLAS. "What the-, okay that CAN'T be a coincidence!"
"It is actually." Saixus answered as he drank some more cola. "Small multiverse."
'They call racing a turbo-duel?' Blake though confused. 'I'm starting to think this isn't gonna be an ordinary race.'
The camera then left the city and zoomed into an island a few kilometers away. Unlike the beautiful city we saw in the beginning, this place looked like an absolute wreck. Tons of old building and broken streets appeared on the screen.
"What the-" Ruby was confused at the sudden change of scenery.
"Geez, this place is a dump." Yang couldn't help but say.
"Is this some sort of abandoned city?" Blake asked seeing similarities between this place and Mountain Glenn. "Was there some sort of natural disaster? Or did it get attacked by Grimm?"
"Those creatures don't exist in this universe." Saixus stated causing the girls to stare at him in disbelief. The creatures of Grimm have been a part of their world for as long as anyone can remember, so hearing there are other worlds out there where the Grimm don't exist was kind of shocking. "Your first guess was not too far off though. However, since I'm not going to spoil the show, you'll just have to keep watching."
The camera moves down the broken street and then zooms into one of the cracks. Inside an underground-tunnel they saw a guy driving a red-colored Duel-Runner.
"Now this motorcycle looks more practical." Weiss said happy not every motorcycle in this world looked like the one that Atlas-guy used.
"I like it's color-scheme!" Ruby said as if it wasn't obvious.
"It's alright I guess…" Yang stated. While she was happy to see another motorcycle on the screen, she couldn't help but feel that this motorcycle was less modern then the one the first guy rode with. Not that she had anything against old motorcycles, but she'd rather see some more modern ones.
'I'm coming for ya Jack.' The figure driving the Duel-Runner thought as his screen revealed that he was currently driving over 200 kilometers per hour.
"HE'S DRIVING OVER 200 KILOMETERS PER HOUR?!" Weiss shouted out as the other girls also stared wide-eyed at the screen.
"…Nevermind what I just thought, that thing's a beast!" Yang yelled excitingly. She did not expect the bulky ride to go that fast! She sooooo wanted to race against it now!
"Good thing he's not driving on the road…" Blake knew full well that if Yang ever drove that fast on the open road, all cops in Vale would speed after her in vain.
The camera zoomed into the driver's face as he thought 'And this time, I'm gonna settle the score.'
Getting over the high-speed vehicle, Ruby asked "So is this guy gonna be that Atlas person's opponent?"
"Looks that way." Yang figured. "I can't wait to see those two race it out!"
"Though it does seem like this guy has some sort of grudge against Jack." Blake pointed out. "Maybe they have some sort of history together?"
"You'll find out in a minute." Saixus stated as a remote suddenly appeared in his hands and he pressed skip.
Seeing the scene suddenly change, Ruby said "Hey! What did you just do?"
Saixus looked at the girl confused but quickly realized what he had done instinctively. "Oops! Looks like I accidently skipped the opening-song. Oh well, let's continue."
"Oh come on!" Ruby was not happy. "I wanna see the opening-song!"
Not in the mood to rewind to the previous scene, Saixus just said "Look, I'll show you guys the opening during the next episode, deal?"
Ruby pouted before sitting back down again. "Alright fine…"
We return to the arena where everyone is waiting in anticipation for the contest to start. "With one warm-up lap to go the rematch of the century is about to get underway, but will the competition ever show its face?"
"Oh no!" Ruby squeaked out. "The guy with the red motorcycle is late!"
"Hopefully he gets there in time." Yang stated, not wanting the race to be cancelled simply because the guy overslept.
"Well at least this explains why he was driving so fast." Weiss pointed out.
The red-helmet wearing driver was shown once again as he continued traveling underground.
One light-flash later and we're back at the colosseum where Jack stood ready at the starting line with another driver next to him. "And Hunter Pace has finally shown up, eager to regain his title!"
Everyone blinked at the announcer's announcement.
"I… guess Jack's not racing against the other motorcyclist after all." Ruby guessed.
"Aw man!" Yang was not happy. "This Hunter Pace guy better have a fast ride too!"
"Considering that he's supposed to be the former champion, I think it's fair to assume he also has a fast bike." Weiss stated.
Blake took a closer look at Jack's opponent. "Wait a second, wasn't that guy already in the stadium at the beginning of the episode? Why would the announcer say the guy wasn't there yet when he clearly was?"
"Maybe… to build-up some expense?" Yang guessed.
Saixus knew this was because of a translation mistake but didn't want to explain the subbed-universe to these girls, mostly because he only watched the later season's in sub. He knew this wasn't gonna be the last translation error but decided then and there he would let the girls spot the inconsistencies themselves and would only try to add more info to make the dub make more sense.
Saixus might like subbed-anime, but early Yu-Gi-Oh 5d's? Dubbed, no question.
"I'll fire things up." Jack stated as he pressed a button on his Duel-Runner.
Not soon after, a card appeared on both duelists their screens as an artificial voice spoke up. "DUEL MODE ENGAGED. AUTOPILOT STANDING BY."
"Duel Mode?" Yang asked confused.
The announcer continued his commentary. "With their Speed World field-spell's activated the action is about to start. Now for those of you joining us for the first time, let's review the rules of engagement. Once Speed World has been activated, the only spells a duelist can use are speed-spells. Normal spells now take a back-seat to the action. Additionally, a rider's strength is now governed by the duelist's speed-counter. The more speed a duelist has, the stronger the move they can make."
"…What?" Was the genuine expression on everyone's faces as they all turned to Saixus.
Saixus stopped chewing on his popcorn. "Did I forget to mention that these guys aren't about to have a normal race? They'll be driving around on their Duel-Runners sure, but they'll be playing a card-game while doing so. Whoever wins the card-game, wins the race."
Weiss wanted to make sure she got this straight. "…So these guys are about to play a card-game… while driving around on motorcycles?"
"Yes." Was Saixus' response.
"…That has to be the most RIDICULOUS THING I've ever heard off!" Weiss shouted in disbelief.
"Card-games on motorcycles…" Yang said quietly before eventually saying. "You know, that actually sounds kind of epic."
"No it doesn't!" Weiss objected to the blond brawler's statement. "It's dumb and stupid! Not to mention dangerous! How can these guys possibly focus on their driving and play a card-game at the same time?!"
"It does sound a little far-fetched." Blake admitted.
"A LITTLE?!" Weiss stood up in disbelief. "Nobody in their right mind would EVER want to do something like this!"
"But Saixus said that this show is based on another universe." Ruby pointed out. "So doesn't that mean there really is a world out there where they play card-games on motorcycles?"
Weiss blinked before turning to the visitor who simply shrugged and stated "That's the multiverse for ya. One moment you're in a world where people have to fight giant monsters to survive, next, a world where everyone plays card-games. And trust me when I say there are worlds out there with WAY more ridiculous stories."
Weiss said nothing as she sat back down hoping she was just having a bad dream and not watching a world where they believed playing card-games on motorcycles was a good idea.
The audience cheered as both duelist were ready to duel. A giant holographic countdown showed up in front of them that quickly started counting down.
The AI spoke once more. "TURBO-DUELISTS. COUNTDOWN INITIATED. READY? SET. DUEL!"
Both duelist started racing with Jack quickly in the lead. Two scoreboards showed up revealing both duelist starting off with 4000 life-points.
"Oh, are those scoreboards?" Ruby, the one most interested in learning about the new game, asked.
"They're called life-points." Saixus explained. "Each duelist starts off with 4000 (In this dimension anyway.) and the goal of the game is to make your opponent's life-points reach zero."
"How do they make each other lose points?" Blake asked, trying to stay interested in the other world but the whole game dynamic did take away a bit of her original interest.
"You'll see soon enough." Saixus told her.
"You're all mine!" Hunter Pace announced as he drew a card.
"Turbo-Duel! Turbo-Duel! Turbo-Duel!" A group of cheerleaders cheered.
"Oh for the love of-" Weiss felt her sanity slowly slipping away. "This ridiculous event has a cheerleader-squad?!"
"They sometimes have those at normal races too." Yang said, a little peeved they weren't gonna watch an actual race but still interested in the game. "Guess this game they're about to play is pretty popular."
"It's basically the most essential part of that planet's whole society." Saixus told them while chewing popcorn.
"It's a card-game! Those are meant to be played on tables, not racetracks!" Weiss shouted out and then said sarcastically. "What are you gonna tell us next? That the cards in this game can be used to summon monsters or something?"
Saixus said nothing but Weiss didn't like the grin he had on his face.
"And Hunter has played a powerful trap," The announcer said even though there was currently no trap on the field but a giant flying warlock with flaming hair wearing a skull helmet and a red cape.
Weiss' eyes widened once more. "Oh my Oum! What is that thing?!"
"A giant flying man with flaming hair…" Yang said with a surprised look on her face that Blake shared.
Ruby however had stars in her eyes. "That guy looks so cool!"
Saixus decided to clarify. "That guy is a monster called Skull Flame. See in this universe they have access to super advanced holographic technology. Using this technology, both players are able to summon the monsters on their cards as holograms, making the game much more realistic and exciting."
Weiss processed what the guy had just said and then tried to respond. "These guys invented state of the art hologram-projectors… and they are using it to enrich the experience of a children's card-game…"
"Basically."
Weiss let out a deep sigh before covering Ruby's ears, much to her confusion. "Okay seriously, you have got to be f*king kidding me! Who on Remnant would waste all their time and money on something like that?!"
"A guy named Seto Kaiba." Saixus explained. "I think you'd actually get along with him. You two have a lot in common."
Weiss let go of Ruby's ears and crossed her arms. "I doubt I have anything in common with a guy who decided to spend so much money on something so absolutely useless."
"He's a rich kid who hates his father, who was basically the Jacques Schnee of that world." Saixus explained. "Guy created war-machines and mistreated both Seto and his younger brother. Seto eventually took over his father's company and turned it into a gaming-empire."
Weiss blinked at Saixus' description of the guy and couldn't help but feel a little sympathy for the guy. "I still think he should have spent that money on something better…"
Ruby smiled at Weiss' reaction before taking a hand full of popcorn and focusing back on the show, wondering what awesome monsters might show up next!
Jack didn't seem worried at all as he played his next card. A flash of light appeared behind him and he said "You've had your fun, but it's time for my victory lap. Now I'm sure you remember my Red Dragon Archfiend from our last match Hunter!"
A massive red and black colored dragon appeared out of the light. It's eyes shined red as it let out a powerful roar. It then flew over its master, the red in its eyes changing to yellow, as the beast could now be seen in all its glory.
Yang dropped some popcorn upon seeing the massive beast. All of team RWBY stared at the dragon in both fear and amazement.
"IT'S A GIANT DRAGON!" Ruby yelled out in excitement. It just looked so big, edgy and strong to her that she couldn't help but get excited. Not to mention it was colored the same way as her clothes!
"That thing looks terrifying!" Weiss shivered.
"I'm gonna make a safe assumption and say that's his most powerful card." Blake made a correct assumption.
"Is it weird that I kinda wanna fight it?" Yang asked with a raised fist.
"You can't fight it, it's a hologram." Weiss reminded her. "You'd be hitting nothing but air!"
"Nice to see you're getting into the spirit of things miss Schnee." Saixus said with a grin on his face as Weiss simply looked the other way.
"And since you worked so hard to get here, you can have the honor of falling to my most powerful beast again!" Jack announced as he turned around to observe his dragon preparing to strike. "Archfiend! Send him back to the junkyard with Scorching Crimson Flare!"
Red Dragon Archfiend did just that, as it fired a powerful stream of fire at Skull Flame, taking away the last of Hunter Pace's life-points in the process.
Team RWBY watched the attack in awn and were now really glad there wasn't a Grimm-like Red Dragon Archfiend in their world.
We then switch back to the duelist with the red Duel-Runner which seemed to have some kind of technical failure.
"Awch!" Yang winced at the sight of the Duel-Runner getting damaged. "Looks like some sort of overload. Guess he was going faster than that motorcycle could handle."
"Well he was riding over 200 kilometers an hour." Blake reminded her. "I'm guessing his motorcycle wasn't made to travel that fast for a long period of time."
The rider stepped off his Duel-Runner to observe the damage. He then took off his helmet and revealed his face. He stared at the giant hole in the street above him, dreaming of a better life.
"I think it's safe to assume he's the main-character." Blake figured. The guy certainly had the face for one.
"What's wrong with his hair?" Weiss couldn't help but ask and missed Saixus' snicker. Though he had to admit Weiss was being a little bit unfair. There were plenty of people on Remnant who also had unusual hairstyles with crazy colors. Besides, compared to the previous and later Yu-Gi-Oh protagonists, Yusei's hair was downright tame.
"And Jack Atlas his unbeaten streak continues!" The announcer praised the champion.
Hunter Pace's Duel-Runner was smoking all over the place. He got off and threw his helmet against the ground in frustration before trying to wave away the smoke.
"Looks like this Pace-guy is a sour loser." Weiss observed.
"I don't know…" Yang defended him. "I'd be pretty pissed too if that much smoke was coming out of my ride."
"It's a special mechanic that is built into every Duel-Runner." Saixus explained. "You lose the duel, your Runner automatically stops running."
"That sounds like a massive safety-hazard." Yang couldn't help but point out but Saixus simply shrugged while Weiss' left-eye twitched.
Jack pointed his finger at the audience and said. "Who's the one master of faster? Who rules the duels? That's right, it's me!"
"Geez, ego much." Blake said, noting that this Jack Atlas person was far from humble.
We go back to the driver of the red Duel-Runner as he was pushing said Runner back to his hideout.
"I feel your pain buddy." Yang sincerely stated. She knew all too well what it felt like to push your motorcycle all the way back home. Not because she blew a fuse but because she occasionally forgot to tank.
A crowd could be heard in the tunnel shouting 'Jack!' over and over again. The sound came from an old computer set-up.
The driver came closer and overheard the announcer-guy asking questions to the champion. "Mister Atlas, can we get a word? Ever since you first showed up on the scene with your first Duel-Runner, the competition hasn't been able to keep up."
Three men where currently in front of the screen, one with blue hair and glasses, one with brown hair and a blue scarf on his head, and another, more chubby-build fellow with brown hair and a small head-band. They all played close attention to the TV.
"Who are these guys?" Ruby asked but nobody answered.
The announcer continued. "Is it the power in your ride that has catapulted you to the number one ranking in the world?"
The screen is shown as Jack Atlas grabs the microphone out of the announcer's hand.
"Rude." Ruby said frowning at Jack.
"Okay never mind the other guy, what's wrong with the announcer's hair?!" Weiss asked in disbelief as the announcer was shown to have a massive pompadour.
"Either that's a wig, or his hairdresser's trying to break a record." Blake commented.
"Also does the announcer guy sound different here then when he was broadcasting the card-game race earlier?" Yang couldn't help but note.
Jack turned to the camera's and said "Let's get this straight. It's not the power of the Runner, it's the rider. I'll take on anyone on any ride and I'll still be victorious! Any more questions?"
"One more! Do you have anything to say to those out there who dream of one day challenging you?"
The mysterious rider started up his Duel-Runner's engine, grabbing the attention of the other guys.
"Oh hey Yusei!" The guy wearing a blue scarf on his head said.
"Yusei?" Ruby repeated. "Is that his name?"
"It is." Saixus confirmed. "His full name is Yusei Fudo."
"Yusei Fudo…" Blake repeated. "That's a pretty unique name."
"Never mind his name!" Weiss stated as she looked closely at the hideout on the screen. "Please don't tell me this is where he lives!"
"Guess this Yusei's a little shy on cash." Yang stated. She had to admit that it looked kind of cozy though.
"Then how did he get the bike?" Ruby wondered.
"Maybe he spent all his money on it." Blake pondered.
"Or he stole it." Weiss stated as another possibility.
"Weiss, we've yet to see this guy have a decent conversation." Yang reminded her. "I think it's a little bit too early to conclude that he's a thief."
Weiss scoffed but had to admit that Yang had a point.
"Bring it-" The screen got turned off by the same guy who greeted Yusei.
"Sorry about that. We would have watched the duel somewhere else Yus, honest." The chubbiest of the three men said. "But the cable we rigged couldn't stretch any further."
Weiss looked deadpanned at Yang who turned her head the other way and started whistling.
"Jack was amazing as always." The guy with blue hair and glasses stated.
"Nervin sip it, would ya?" The first guy said.
"What, what I say Blitz?" Nervin asked confused.
"He don't want to hear about how amazing Jack Atlas was." Blitz explained.
"Oh sorry." Nervin apologized.
Yusei didn't care about Nervin's remark as he went to work on his Runner. "Only one person should be sorry."
"Right." Blitz admitted. "Jack still owes you for what he did."
"Got that right." Yusei confirmed.
"Okay so this Yusei person and Jack definitely know one another." Ruby said wondering what kind of past these two had together.
"And from the sound of it, Jack did something that these guys are not happy with." Blake realized.
"What did he do? Steal his other bike or something?" Yang asked as a joke.
The only guy whose name was yet to be revealed spoke up. "So where've you been Yus?"
"The tunnels, testing a new acceleration-chip." Yusei told him.
"What's an acceleration-chip?" Ruby asked her sister.
"Don't look at me." She quickly told her. "I know a lot about motorcycles but that's a new term for me."
"It's basically an essential part of any Duel-Runner." Saixus explained. "Without one of high quality, Yusei's Duel-Runner can't maintain high speeds for very long."
"…So are you gonna tell us if the new chip worked out or what?"
"Duh Tank, does it look like it worked?" Blitz sarcastically asked.
"Yeah dude, anyone can tell that it didn't work." Yang commented on Tank's remark.
"I guess not…" Tank concluded as he leaned back on his chair a bit. "Although hey, your other Runner looked great on TV."
"WHAT?!" Yang yelled out in anger. "Is he saying that this Jack-guy actually stole his bike?!"
"Yep." Saixus said putting emphasis on the p. "He stole his Runner some years ago. He's upgraded it quite a bit since then, including by adding the giant wheel, but it was originally Yusei's."
Yang's anger was practically radiating off of her. If anyone ever DARED steal her Bumblebee, she'd track the guy all across Remnant if she had to!
RWB was smart enough to skootch a little away from the angry blond.
"Tank!" Blitz yelled angrily as he grabbed Tank by the head.
Tank pushed away Blitz hands and said "Just trying to make our friend feel better is all! That is Yusei's Duel-Runner. I mean, if it weren't for Jack double-crossing Yusei and stealing his ride, Yus would have been giving that interview! But cause Jack got all fames with Yusei's Runner, all the fame, fortune and glory are Jacks now!"
Yang was still fuming but Blake couldn't help but point something out. "I get that they're angry about Yusei's bike getting stolen but aren't they being a bit too unreasonable right now? I mean, Jack must have still won all those games on his own, otherwise he wouldn't be the champion. Even if Yusei still had that bike, that doesn't mean he could have become champion instead of Jack."
"Fair point." Saixus admitted. "But Yusei was planning to do something much grander with that Duel-Runner then try and become a champion."
"And what's that?" Ruby asked.
"It will be revealed later on."
"Tank!" Blitz shouted again.
"What?" Tank was genuinely confused about what he said wrong.
Just then, a much smaller guy with long red-hair came running down the stairs and into the subway-tunnel.
"Yusei! Hey Yusei!" The kid yelled excitingly. "Are you down here?"
"In here Rally!" Blitz greeted the young men.
"What's up little buddy." Tank also greeted him.
"Wait till you see what I got for Yusei!" Rally stated as he ran towards Yusei.
"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?" Nervin asked.
Yang knew exactly what she needed to get rid of her anger. A bad joke. "I guess Nervin's the nervous one of the bunch."
"Boo!" Ruby shouted.
"Did you have to Yang?" Weiss asked in annoyance.
"Oh come on, it was practically staring me in the face!" Yang defended herself.
"Cause you always have bad feelings." Blitz stated as he and the other two guys walked to Rally and Yusei.
Rally grabbed something small out of her pocket and showed it to Yusei. "Check it out! The Skylon 30 acceleration-chip!"
"That's a Skylon?" Nervin asked in suspicion. "Aren't those incredibly expensive?"
Blitz took Rally's arm to get a closer look at the chip. "It looks like it's never been used. Don't tell me you stole this?"
"I didn't steal nothing!" Rally quickly claimed. "It was just lying on the ground in broad daylight. Maybe someone dropped it?"
"If that chip is really as expensive as these guys claim it is, then I doubt someone would have been careless enough to lose it." Weiss stated.
"Think the little kid might have stolen it after all?" Yang wondered.
"Nope!" Ruby said confidently. "He seemed pretty sincere."
"He?" Weiss asked Ruby confused. "I'm pretty sure that kid's a girl Ruby."
"Nah," Yang agreed with her half-sister. "I'm 90% sure it's a boy. He sure has the voice of one."
"There're correct." Saixus confirmed. "The Rally of this universe is a boy. Don't feel too bad though Ice Queen. I made that same mistake when I first watched this."
Weiss pouted at the visitor's comment. How was she supposed to know the kid with long red hair was a guy?!
Blitz wasn't buying it. "Rally you shouldn't have taken what don't belong to you."
Rally grunted at Blitz remark but Tank backed him up. "You know how things out here, nobody leaves nothing just lying around."
"I think this guy's sentence is missing a word." Weiss stated at Tank's bad formulated sentence.
Nervin got closer to Rally's face and said "If they saw you, they'll track us down and mark us all."
"Wait a sec…" Blake began as they only now got a clear view of Rally's face. "Does that kid have a-"
"TATTOO ON HIS FACE?!" Yang surprisingly shouted out. She had no problems with tattoo's and might get one herself in the future, but a little kid like him having one right underneath his eye of all places?!
"How irresponsible are this kid's parents?!" Weiss shouted out feeling real bad for the kid and outraged at whoever placed that tattoo on him.
"It looks kind of cool though." Ruby stated causing Yang's big-sister alarms to go into overdrive. "Maybe I should get one underneath my eye t-"
"NO WAY!" Yang instantly shouted causing Ruby and the others to jump up in surprise. Yang let out a sigh to calm down before saying. "Ruby, you can get a tattoo when you're an adult, but no way are you placing it on your face of all places!"
Ruby grumbled as she sat back down while Weiss and Blake were actually impressed. They don't see Yang being the responsible one very often.
Once everyone had calmed down, Saixus decided to explain Rally's mark. "That's not a tattoo on Rally's face, it's a mark. The security forces of that world put that on him so they can keep track of his location at all time."
"So it's like a tracking-device?" Blake asked to which Saixus nodded.
"Why would the police place something like that on a little kid?" Weiss asked in disgust. "I get placing one on someone like Torchwick, but a kid? What did he do to deserve that kind of punishment?"
"I don't know." Saixus honestly answered. "But now you understand why these guys are being careful with this new chip. If Rally did steal it, both him and the others could get in serious trouble."
"Why?" Weiss asked. "If he apologies to the owners then I'm sure-"
"You still have to witness the kind of world we're currently in." Saixus interrupted her. "Even in a world ruled by card-games, there are still some dark corners."
"Easy Nervin." Yusei spoke up to calm his friend down as he approached Rally. "Rally, let me see that."
Rally did as Yusei asked and gave him the chip.
After taking a closer look at the chip, Yusei turned around again and said "This is just what I needed."
"You can't use that Yus." Nervin tried talking sense into him.
"You gotta make Rally take it back." Blitz agreed with Nervin.
"I knew you'd like it." Rally said excitingly. "I knew it! Will it make you faster?"
"Absolutely." Yusei answered as he installed the chip into his Duel-Runner.
"Well then," Tank changed his mind. "Maybe he shouldn't return it."
"Tank!"
"What?"
Forgetting the tattooed child for a second, Yang smirked at Tank's and Blitz's interaction.
"We know how you feel Yus." Nervin said. "But I think it's time to bury the past, move on and forget about Jack Atlas."
Rally pouted during Nervin's line and quickly rebutted. "But Jack also took Yusei's best card, remember Nervin!"
"Great, now he's a card thief too." Yang was starting to like Jack less and less. She was already regretting having liked the guy when he first showed up.
"Giving the fact that he stole Yusei's previous motorcycle, taking one of his cards doesn't sound that farfetched." Weiss stated.
"Why only the one though?" Blake asked. "If Jack could somehow take Yusei's best card out of his deck, wouldn't he have been able to take all of Yusei's cards with him? Why would he only settle on one?"
"You'll find out eventually." Saixus stated.
"Oh come on!" Ruby pouted. "Can't you just tell us already?"
"Look I'm trying to avoid giving you guys spoilers and all your questions aren't helping!"
Nervin rebutted Rally's rebuttal. "And you remember Jack's in the city and the people over there don't take too kindly to those of us from the Satellite!"
At this mention the atmosphere in the room darkened as Blake turned to Saixus. "What's Nervin talking about?"
Saixus sighed and tried giving an as spoiler-low explanation as possible. "There are two center-places in this story. New Domino City, which we saw in the beginning and the Satellite, which is an island that used to be a part of the city but got split up when Yusei was just a baby after some disaster that you'll learn more about later. For some reason they decided to turn the separated part into a massive garbage-island that both recycles trash and creates energy and heat for the city. Most if not everyone who lives in the Satellite is viewed by the majority of the people in the city as second-class citizens. The folks down there have to work very hard to make a living and are practically depended on the trash coming from the city to survive. Not to mention that it's illegal for all people who live in the Satellite to enter New Domino City without permission, effectively trapping those people on a crappy island where people of all age-groups struggle to survive."
Everyone listened intensely to Saixus' explanation and they all had different reactions to it.
Ruby fell incredibly sorry for the people of the Satellite. All those people having to work hard just to feed themselves while an incredibly beautiful city lay just a few kilometers away. And Yusei grew up only ever knowing that place? She now really wanted to give Yusei a hug somehow.
Weiss looked down upon hearing the people of the city mistreated those from the Satellite. It reminded her too much of how Atlas viewed Mantle and how they treated the Faunas. But she was most upset at herself because she used to think just like those people. It reminded her how much she had changed since coming to Beacon, and vowed once again to better herself.
Blake tried her best to contain her anger. Her people were frowned upon simply by how they looked, but these people are looked down on because of where they lived! How was it fair that those people had to work so hard to survive while those in the city could go watch games being played in giant arenas? At least her people weren't truly imprisoned in their own home, though it certainly felt that way sometimes. Blake couldn't help but feel that even though they were human, the people of the Satellite were kindred spirits.
Yang just thought that everyone in that city was a massive asshole.
Rally took Nervin's word in strife. "Yeah and, in case you forgot sometimes you got to stand up for yourself!"
Nervin pushed Rally aside and turned to Yusei. "Yusei? Us Satellites should just stay put."
Blake frowned upon Nervin's statement. Staying put is exactly what the people in Menagerie were doing and even though she understood why, she couldn't help but agree with Rally. If you never stand up for yourself then nothing will ever change… Course Blake also realized that things could be taken too far as well. Adam was undeniable proof of that, and she already vowed never to travel that road again.
Yusei typed on his computer and said "Jack didn't stay, so why should I?"
Blake blinked at Yusei's statement. "So Jack's from the Satellite as well?"
"He is." Saixus confirmed. "The day he stole Yusei's Runner was the same day he went into the city."
"How?" Weiss couldn't help but ask. "They're on an island in the middle of the ocean! How could Jack have made it to the city with just a motorcycle?"
"Okay do you guys want me to spoil the entire show for you or not?" Saixus answered which caused Weiss to shut up.
"It's a bit ironic though." Yang said. "The people of that city don't like people from the Satellite, yet someone from the Satellite is their champion? Why would they ever let someone from the Satellite compete in these games if they hate them so much?"
"They probably don't know he's from there." Weiss assumed correctly. "If they ever found out, it would be a huge scandal."
"Let him go bro." Blitz agreed with Nervin. "Don't risk your freedom for some wheels in a car. I think Nervin's right. It's time to put the past in the past."
Yusei seemed deep in thought until he got a notification on his laptop. "Huh?"
Yusei grabbed his Duel-Runner and turned the handle. Not soon after, the unmistakable noise of a loud engine riffing up could be heard echoing through the tunnel.
Yang looked like she had just heard the greatest noise in the world as she let out a whistle. "Now THAT sounds like speed!"
Ruby agreed with Yang. Even though she knew very little about motorcycles, she could recognize the sound of a happy machine anywhere. She realized it could be a mood point asking but her curiosity got to better of her. "Uhm, mister Saixus sir? Could you please tell us where Yusei got that awesome moto- uhm, Duel-Runner from?"
Happy Ruby used the correct term and asked so nicely, Saixus answered her question. "Oh he build that himself."
"WHAT?!" Team RWBY shouted and they quickly followed up with the real question. "HOW?!"
"Yusei's stuck on an island with nothing but trash." Saixus explained. "He and his friends simply went searching for parts they could use, put those together and bang, Duel-Runner. He also build the one Jack stole from him."
"He made that thing out of nothing but trash?" Weiss didn't know rather to be impressed or disgusted.
Yang looked really impressed. "I know quite a lot about motorcycles but even I'm not sure I can build one with nothing but junk."
"Not to mention how much more complicated these runners are compared to our worlds motorcycles." Blake pointed out. "This Yusei must be a mechanical genius to have built not one, but two fully functional ones with nothing but street-knowledge."
"Even I still needed to learn how to build my Crescent Rose from Uncle Crow and some guide-books." Ruby stated, also in awn of Yusei's achievement.
Everybody stared at the Duel-Runner, as realization slowly dawned on them that they may have finally finished it.
Rally looked up to Yusei and said "Wow! Now that's what I call power!"
Yusei nodded at Rally's statement.
Rally bend down and picked up Yusei's helmet. "Take it out for a spin. Let's find out what it can do!"
Yang agreed with Rally. "Just imagine how fast that thing can go now that it has a proper chip."
Suddenly, a bunch of lights shined down into the tunnel.
"What's that?" Tank asked in a panic.
"It's Sector Security!" Nervin shouted in panic.
"Sector Security?" Ruby asked.
"They're basically the Satellite's watchdogs." Saixus told her. "There job is to keep order in the Satellite and arrest people who break the laws."
"But none of them did anything wrong!" Ruby declared. "Why would they be looking for them?"
The officer piloting the helicopter announced "Identification number AWX86007, you're in possession of stolen property."
"…Oh." Was all Ruby could say to that.
"So Rally did steal that chip!" Weiss said a little proud of herself for being right. She then took a closer look at the screen and asked. "Wait, they send out a strange bullhead-like vehicle just to search for a thief?"
"Geez, overkill much." Yang agreed.
"Escape is not an option! You're surrounded."
Nervin and Tank looked at Rally in disbelief as the kid stared at Yusei's helmet not saying a word.
The officer repeated "We have you surrounded 86007!"
"He has a name you know!" Blake shouted angerly.
"Maybe the officer doesn't know it?" Ruby reasoned.
"If the pilot has access to Rally's ID-number then I doubt his name's not listed right underneath it." Blake rebutted, as she was already concluding that these security-guys did not have Rally's best interest at heart.
"Look what you did!" Blitz shouted at Rally.
"I didn't to nothing!" The red-head denied. "Blitz I promise I didn't steal anything! It's like I said before, it was just lying there and nobody was around!"
Ruby believed the kid. "I still think he's telling the truth! If he did steal it, he would have admitted it right then and there!"
"And don't you guys think this all seems a little suspicious?" Yang asked, as she couldn't help but feel like the guys on TV were being set-up. "From the looks of it, that chip was the last thing Yusei needed to complete his Runner. And then Rally finds it in the middle of the street without anyone around to claim it for themselves? As a partial-engineer myself, I would never leave behind a valuable part like that."
"What are you getting at?" Weiss asked still skeptical about Rally's innocence.
"I think Rally and the others might be getting set up." Yang concluded which did not ease the death-glare Blake was currently giving the TV.
"None of that matters Rally!" Blitz yelled out with a raised fist.
Yang stared angrily at Blitz. "Oh he better not think of punching Rally!"
Yusei came between them and said "It's gonna be all right."
Calming down Blitz asked "So what should we do?"
Tank started panicking. "There's nothing we can do! That mark is like a homing-device, it sends a signal to Security!"
"I'll admit that mark is an effective way of keeping track of criminals. With those marks they can easily be found again should they escape prison or commit new crimes after being released." Weiss admitted before angrily asking again "But why would you ever place one on a child?!"
After typing a few strokes on his laptop, Yusei said "I got that covered."
Yusei's Duel-Runner started sending out a signal that interrupted Rally's tracking signal.
The officer in the helicopter looked in disbelief. "Ah, the signal! It's been compromised!"
Yusei sat down on his Duel-Runner. "I bought you guys a couple of minutes."
"Where do you think you're going?" Blitz asked.
"You take the east-tunnel." Yusei told them before pressing a button on his helmet and lowering the glasses. "I'm gonna take this chip out for a test drive."
"Ah yeah!" Yang was getting excited. "He's gonna distract the cops so that his friends can escape!"
"Will he be alright though?" Ruby worryingly asked. "If all those officers start chasing him-"
"He'll be fine." Yang waved her off. "Yusei's ride can go over 200 kilometers per hour and that was with a faulty chip. Imagine how fast he can go now!"
Yusei speed away and his friends decided to follow his advice. Blitz addressed the group and said "You heard the man, let's bolt."
Yusei drove up some stairs (Yang decided that she was gonna try the same thing tomorrow) and speeded away from the Security forces.
"This intel was perfect." An officer on a Patrol-Runner said before contacting dispatch. "Central the prize is in my sights, lock onto my signal."
"So they knew ahead of time that Rally would find that chip." Blake concluded. "Looks like Yang was right, they are being set up."
"Yes!" Ruby cheered. "I knew Rally was innocent!"
Weiss grumbled at being wrong but was glad the kid wasn't a thief. She did take a double-take at the officer though as she couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with his eyebrows.
Security started chasing after Yusei. I didn't take long before they caught up to him, as the light of the helicopter shined down on Yusei. 'Man, I didn't think they'd be on me this quick.'
Yang blinked at this sudden development. "Seriously?! How fast are these cops going?!"
"200 kilometers or not, that flying security-bullhead would be difficult to outrun." Weiss pointed out. "Besides, if these guys are really officers from the city then I would be surprised if they didn't provide them with the best vehicles available."
Saixus was eating some popcorn but still responded. "Oh yeah their Duel-Runners are state of the art."
Weiss was happy about being right but took a double-take in when she heard the word Duel-Runner. "… Are you saying that officer is riding on a motorcycle that can be used to play that weird card-game on?"
"Yes."
Weiss demanded an explanation. "Why in the name of Remnant would the police NEED motorcycles like that?!"
"So they can play card-games against the criminals they chase, duh!" Saixus said as if the most obvious thing in the world.
Ruby and Yang couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of that idea and even Blake tried to contain a small snicker. Weiss however wanted to travel to that world, find the guy who decided to incorporate that technology into police-vehicles and demand an explanation for his ridiculous decision!
The officer on the Patrol-Runner spoke up. "You on the Runner. Pull over! There's no use trying to escape."
Yusei didn't listen as he continued driving. A while later, Yusei broke through some gates with the officer on the Patrol-Runner and a police-car giving chase.
Forgetting her anger for a minute, Weiss noticed that one of the vehicles was missing. "What the-, where did that security-bullhead go? How can he outrun it but not the officer on the runner or the car?"
"Maybe they called it back?" Blake suggested. "He seemed to have gone into a closer-build area so there may not be enough space for the strange bullhead to keep chasing him."
Yusei eventually stopped as he seemed cornered. The officer on the Patrol-Runner stopped and stepped off before approaching Yusei. He lifted the glasses of his helmet and said "Huh, remember me Yusei? It's been a while since the center. I'll thank Jack for setting up this reunion."
Yang moved Jack even higher on her list of people she disliked. "So Jack set up this trap so that those cops could catch Yusei?"
"Looks that way." Blake confirmed. "But why were these guys looking for Yusei in the first place?"
"Duel-Runners are illegal in the Satellite." Saixus explained. "They've probably been searching for him because they somehow learned Yusei was building one."
"Probably?" Blake asked.
"Look it's been a while since I watched this show, okay?"
Yang meanwhile looked like she had just heard the most ridiculous statement in her life. "Wait, Duel-Runners are illegal? These guys are forbidden from owning motorcycles?!"
"That and Duel Monster cards." Saixus stated.
Yang looked beyond pissed. If the law forbade her from owing Bumblebee, she would go up to whoever passed that stupid law and punch them right in the face.
Weiss face-palmed at the mention of cards being illegal as well. How messed up was this universe?!
"Haha, Jack said with the right bait, Rally would lead us right to you." The leading officer taunted. "I knew we should have locked you up when you were a kid. Looks like I'll finally get my wish and with you and Rally off to the Facility, Jack will have one less thing to worry about."
"I don't like this guy…" Ruby stated, freaked out at the fact this officer would have no problem throwing a child in prison.
"Seems like this guy also has a history with Yus." Yang pointed out before smirking. "I'm really starting to like this guy. He made trouble for the cops when he was just a kid!"
"That's not something to be proud of Yang!" Weiss shouted.
"Now tell me, are you going to make this easy and come along quietly?" The giant eye-browed officer asked hoping he would resist.
Yusei surprisingly said "I will."
"No he's not." Yang could already tell.
He then named his condition. "If you can beat me."
"Beat him?" Weiss asked. "Beat him in what?"
"In a high-speed card-game!" Ruby answered remembering the premise of this world.
Weiss let out a long sigh. They had gone half the episode without having to watch a card-game except for the small bit in the beginning, so she was honestly hoping they were just gonna skip them.
"The question is if that officer will accept." Yang stated, looking forward to watching a card-game being played while the players were riding motorcycles. "After all, he seems to really wanna throw Yusei in a cell."
Weiss spoke out. "Well since this guy is supposed to be a police-officer and Yusei did break the law by running away from them, logic dictates-"
"We're watching a world where they play card-games on motorcycles." Blake pointed out. "I don't think logic has much space here."
The officer laughed at Yusei's challenge. "I see you still think you can out-duel Sector Security. It's too bad the rules say you Satellites can't carry cards."
Weiss had to agree with Blake. Any world that treats cards as illegal items could not have much lean-way when it came to logic.
Yusei showed his cards at the officer. "Rules were made to be broken, weren't they?"
Yang agreed wholeheartedly. "Tell it how it is Yusei!"
"Oh I can't wait to see what kind of cards Yusei has!" Ruby was getting excited.
"That officer can't really be about to agree with this." Weiss wanted to continue living in denial.
Yusei put his cards down and said "Now if I win this duel, Rally and me are free to go, no questions asked Trudge."
The other officer did not agree with this. "The law does not negotiate with-"
The now named officer Trudge, put his arm in front of his subordinate, shutting him up. "And what's in it for me should I accept your proposal?"
Weiss face-palmed, hard.
The lower-ranked officer pointed out the rules. "But article 4B clearly states tha-"
Trudge interrupted him. "Well allow me to clearly state this, get moving or else."
"This is highly improper!" The officer practically yelled.
Trudge had enough of his subordinate's complaints. "I said move, or would you prefer to be working on trash-detail?"
This did the trick as the officer went back to the car and told the others. "Back to command central everyone, direct orders."
Weiss still had her hand on her face and honestly didn't know if she should feel glad that at least one officer was willing to follow the rules, or mad that he just listened to Trudge instead of telling his higher-ups about this.
"Whooped." Was Yang's thoughts on the officer that just left. "Well Weiss get ready, we're about to watch two people play a card-game while driving around on their motorcycles."
While Blake did want Yusei to escape the cops, she had to agree with Weiss. "Every time I hear that sentence, I get a small headache."
Once the other officers were gone, Yusei continued. "Well should you accept and win, you'll tell Sector Security to call off their hunt for Rally."
Trudge wasn't sure to agree with that. "And how does that benefit me?"
"Cuz I'm gonna say it was me who stole the chip, and that I tried to flee the scene but couldn't outrun your pursuit." Yusei explained. "A statement like that will probably bump you up to sergeant. So what do you say officer?"
Ruby was in awe. "Even now he's trying to put his friends before himself!"
"He's loyal, I'll give him that." Blake agreed. She knew plenty of Faunas that were willing to throw others under the bus if it meant escaping punishment. Then again, most human-criminals did that as well.
"He's also playing on the officer's ego." Yang nodded, proud of how Yusei was manipulating Trudge. "It's a good thing he knew this Trudge-guy beforehand so he knew exactly what to say to him."
Trudge walked back to his Patrol-Runner and said "You've got yourself a deal-"
Que the mother of all face-palms hitting Weiss' face. Once she removed her hand, a clear red imprint of said hand could be seen on said face. "This is the most incompetent officer I've EVER seen! He had his target cornered and instead of simply arresting the guy, he risks him getting away just so he can get more bragging-rights?!"
Yang turned to the Ice Queen. "What, do you want Trudge to throw Yusei in prison?"
"No!" Weiss shouted. She had nothing against the guy since the rules he was breaking were stupid ones but she had to vend her frustration. "I just don't get how this guy could ever become an officer if he risks his targets getting away by playing card-games against them! What's preventing Yusei from simply trying to run away as soon as their game starts?!"
"The chip." Saixus stated which caused RWBY to look at him. "Like Rally's mark, it sends out a constant signal to Security so he can no longer go anywhere on his Duel-Runner without them following his every move, expect if he manages to get underground. Even if he tries to get away from Trudge, it would only be a matter of time before Security finds him again. That and Trudge has a Duel-Runner that can keep up with Yusei's so he's unlikely to be able to get away from him."
Weiss sighted at the officers being at least smart enough to install a homing-signal on that chip before asking "Well what if Yusei does win? What's to prevent Trudge from breaking his promise and trying to arrest Yusei anyway?"
"Honor amongst card-game enthusiasts?" Saixus shrugged but only Ruby was willing to believe in that. "That, and the fact that as soon as Trudge loses the duel, his Duel-Runner stops working like the one we saw in the beginning."
Weiss could practically feel her nose crack as she face-palmed once more.
"-fool" Trudge stepped on his Patrol-Runner and drove next to Yusei. They both stood still as they got ready to duel in an old building-complex.
Ruby and Yang were getting excited about watching one of these games fully play out. Blake was less interested since she was never one for games. Weiss accepted that she had no choice but to watch this game play out, but raised an eyebrow when she saw where Yusei and Trudge where gonna duel.
"Wait…" Weiss began. "The road continues? Then why did Yusei stop to challenge Trudge if he could have just kept driving?"
Blake understood Weiss' confusion but came up with an answer. "My guess? Yusei knew he couldn't outrun his pursuers and when he noticed Trudge was the one leading them, he figured that he had a better chance of escaping by challenging Trudge to this game."
Weiss accepted Blake's theory and would have said that that was a smart move on Yusei's part weren't it for the fact his plan involved beating an officer in a card-game.
Trudge lowered his helmet's glasses and Yusei followed. "Here we go, I'll engage the Speed World field-spell."
The female AI spoke up. "DUEL MODE ENGAGED. AUTOPILOT ACTIVATED."
"Autopilot?" Yang remembered hearing that during the duel in the beginning but was too occupied by card-games on motorcycles to question it. "You mean they're not gonna drive themselves?"
"They are… I think?" Saixus was not a 100% sure. "I don't think the autopilot does ALL the driving for them but I think it just makes sure that they don't accidently run off the road. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure how that autopilot is supposed to work. I've seen duelists break through elevator-doors and even run into each other despite the fact the autopilot is supposed to be on!"
Yang looked happy at the autopilot being basically useless. What was the point of owning a motorcycle if you didn't drive it yourself.
Weiss was the opposite site of the spectrum. She thought an autopilot was a good way to prevent incidents from happening during this game and paled when she heard how useless it was.
Both duelist started off with 4000 life-points as they both announced at the same time "Let's ride!" and started racing.
"Oh yeah!" Yang cheered. "Time for some card-game riding action!"
Blake shook her head. "There has to be an easier way to say that."
"Just call it Turbo-Dueling." Saixus told her. "Rolls of the tongue much easier."
The music started getting pretty intense as both Yusei and Trudge drove through the complex.
"I can't wait to finally put you away." Trudge stated as he made the first move. "And my Assault Dog is gonna help make sure of it!"
Trudge played the card on this Patrol-Runner and not soon after a blue-circle appeared besides him and a pretty big German shepherd like dog jumped out, wearing guns on its back. Its attack-strength was 1200.
Blake took one look at the dog with guns and immediately jumped behind the couch.
Ruby had sparkles in her eyes as she looked at the gun-wearing dog in awe. "Oh. My. Oum! It's a dog wearing a gun-suit! That is the single awesomest thing I've ever seen!"
"Try scariest!" Blake shouted from behind the couch. Not only did Trudge summon her biggest fear to the field, it was one wearing weapons! What kind of sadist would want to arm a dog?!
Yang also thought the dog looked pretty badass and then took a better look at its attack-points. "ATK? I'm guessing that number shows how strong that dog is?"
Saixus nodded. "They're called attack-points. In this game you summon monsters to fight one another. When two monsters clash, the one with the highest attack-points wins and the difference in their attack-points gets deducted from the loser's life-points."
Weiss perked up at that explanation. "Wait so this game involves math? Maybe it won't be so bad after all."
Saixus was happy that Weiss was warming up to the game but deadpanned at Weiss being more interested in the math than anything else.
"So is 1200 a large number in this game?" Yang asked.
"Not really." Saixus answered. "There are many tougher monsters in this game. To give you a basic idea though, most powerful monsters have an attack-strength between 2000 and 3000 but there are monsters out there with even higher attack-points."
Yang couldn't wait for the more powerful monsters to show up but was a bit disappointed that the dog didn't have that much strength. "Why would he play such a weak monster then?"
"You can't summon strong monsters easily." Saixus explained. "Most powerful monsters can only be summoned by sacrificing weaker monsters first. See each monster has a level. Monsters with a level between 1 and 4 can be summoned straightaway. Levels 5 and 6 on the other hand require a sacrifice before they can be summoned. Levels 7 and 8 require 2 sacrifices and the levels beyond that can require up to 3 sacrifices. But there are special monsters out there that require different methods of summoning. I'll explain those when they show up."
Weiss went over what Saixus just said. "So you start off with weaker monsters and use them to summon your stronger ones... What's the maximum amount of monsters a player can have on the field?"
"In this format, 5." Saixus answered. "And both players can only normal-summon one monster each turn."
"Format?" Ruby asked. "You mean there are different ways to play this game?"
"There are some slight-differences in the other universes where they play Duel Monsters."
Weiss frowned at the notion that there were apparently more universes where they played this game. Hopefully in those universes, they at least had cops that didn't play card-games against fugitives.
Trudge continued his turn. "With it on the field I place a card face-down and end my turn."
A card appeared on Trudge's screen.
"Face-down?" Ruby asked.
"Not all cards in Duel Monsters are monsters." Saixus told them. "You also have trap and spell-cards that can have a multitude of different effects. The difference between the two is that most spell-cards can be used right-away, while trap-cards have to be played face-down and can't be activated on the same turn they're set."
"This game has trap-cards?" Yang asked in surprise since 'Remnant: The Game' also used those.
"Yep. Trap-cards can be used to stop attacks, destroy monsters, power-up monsters, draw extra cards… you know there are so many unique cards in this game that it's difficult to sum up all the different things a trap can do."
"How many unique cards are there?" Ruby asked getting more and more curious about this game.
"Honestly I have no idea." Saixus admitted. "But I wouldn't be surprised if there are over 10 000 unique cards in this game."
THAT made everyone's mouth fall wide open.
"Again, just a guess though." Saixus stated. "I don't know how many unique cards exist in that universe but I think it's a fair number. By the way, in this format, both players need a deck of at least 40 cards to play."
Still surprised there were that many unique cards in this game, Weiss stated "With that many cards out there it would be very unlikely that two players have even a single card in common."
"Well there are some really good cards out there that every duelist uses." Saixus informed. "But enough trivia for now, let's continue watching."
Yusei drew a card and both players gained a speed-counter. "It's my turn then, and with the power of my speed-counter, I can summon Speed Warrior."
Another blue circle appeared but out of this one jumped a monster that looked like a guy wearing some kind of air-tight suit with wheels on its feet. Its attack-points read 900.
Ignoring the monster for now, Ruby asked "Could Yusei only summon that monster because of his speed-counter?"
"No, that was a mistake on Yusei's part." Saixus explained. "Speed-counters can only be used to activate speed-spells but it's not because he had a speed-counter that he could summon Speed Warrior. He could have played that card even without any speed-counters."
Ruby was confused. "Then why did he say-"
Again, Saixus did not want to point out any dubbed-errors. "Look, as far as I know this is the first time Yusei played a Turbo-Duel so it's not that weird that he'd make a small mistake like that."
Accepting the explanation, Yang crunched on some popcorn before realizing something about Speed Warrior. "Only 900 attack-points? That guy's too weak to take out that dog!"
Saixus ate the last of his popcorn before saying "Not for long."
Trudge mocked Yusei. "You never were good at math now were you. I mean that monsters attack points are less than mine. Why bother summoning him out?"
Trudge his answer came when Yusei started driving faster and his Speed Warrior's attack-points doubled.
"Hey, why its attack-points double like that?" Trudge asked confused.
Yusei now took a crack at Trudge. "I heard you were at the bottom of your class at the academy, and I can see why now."
"Owch!" Yang pretended to be hurt. "He just got burned!"
Weiss closed her eyes and said "Normally I wouldn't agree with someone making fun of one's intelligence, but considering this guy accepted Yusei's proposal, I wouldn't be surprised if he really was at the bottom of his class."
Trudge waved away Yusei's remark. "Still a wise guy I see. I expected nothing less."
Yusei prepared to attack. "Well, did you expect my Speed Warrior to take out you Blast Dog?"
"I thought it was called Assault Dog?" Ruby asked confused.
"Who cares what the stupid mutt is called?!" Blake shouted as her head peaked out from behind the couch.
Bla-uhm, Assault Dog tried to defend himself by shooting at Speed Warrior but the warrior very nimbly avoided the bullets. It's eyes shined as Yusei called out "Go Hypersonic Slash!"
The warrior spun around on its arms and delivered a devastating kick to the dog's face. It then exploded into a bunch of yellow triangles.
"HA!" Blake cheered. "Take that dog!"
Ruby looked sad. "Aw, poor doggy."
Weiss also looked heart-struck at the dog getting destroyed. "Well this game's certainly didn't waste any time getting violent."
"Are you kidding me, that looked awesome!" Yang cheered. "I wonder if I can somehow copy that monster's spin-attack. Just imagine getting spin-kicked like that right in the face!"
Blake was already imagining herself using said attack, but instead of using it on people or Grimm, she was using it against multiple dogs.
Ruby still looked down at the dog getting destroyed but then Zwei walked up to her and jumped on her lap. Ruby instantly cheered up and started making mental-blue prints for a gun-suit for Zwei.
Trudge's life-points dropped to 3400. "You always were a know-it-all. But I'm about to teach you a brand-new lesson Yusei!"
A massive card appeared next to Trudge and just like that, Assault Dog was back on the field.
Ruby cheered at the dog's apparent survival.
Blake went back into hiding.
Trudge explained. "See when Assault Dog is sent to the graveyard because of an attack, I can summon another one from my deck to take its place."
"Please don't tell me his entire deck is filled with dogs…" Blake practically begged behind the couch.
"It would make sense." Yang stated. "A lot of officers go on patrols with dogs since they're so good at sniffing out bad-guys."
Weiss went over what Trudge just said and also took into account Speed Warriors sudden attack-point boost. "Do all these monsters have different effects?"
"Not all monsters have effects, but most of them do." Saixus told her. "A good duelist builds on his monsters abilities to make things more difficult for their opponents."
"What did Trudge mean by graveyard?" Ruby asked.
Saixus informed her what the graveyard was. "That's where cards end up after they have either been used or destroyed."
"Still using the same old deck I see." Yusei quipped.
Yang smiled. She loves it when people playing a game constantly trash-talk one another.
Yusei put a card face-down in one of his Duel-Runner's slots. "I play a face-down and end my turn."
As soon as Yusei's turn was over, Speed Warriors attack-points went down again.
"Wait, where did its attack-points go?" Yang asked.
"Speed Warrior's attack-points only double on the turn he's summoned." Saixus told him. "After that, they go back down to their original total."
"Well that sounds like a dumb effect." Weiss couldn't help but note. "Why have a card like that instead of a monster that has 1800 attack-points to begin with?
"You'll know in a minute." Saixus replied.
Both Yusei and Trudge took a corner before Trudge says "And now that your Speed Warrior's attack-points are halved, I remove my Assault Dog form play-"
"What does remove from play mean?" Ruby wondered. "Is he just saying it's going to the graveyard?"
"The dog is going to graveyard." Saixus clarified and Blake once again perked up. "But cards can also be removed from play by the effects of other cards. It's kind of like a second graveyard except cards rarely get sent there."
"If the dog's not being removed from play, then why does Trudge say it is?" Weiss asked to which Saixus just raised his shoulders.
"-to bring out Handcuffs Dragon!" Assault Dog turned into a sphere of colors and out of that sphere came an orange-winged brown-dragon that looked like a pair of handcuffs with 1800 attack-points.
Ruby was sad the dog was gone again and hugged Zwei.
Weiss was disgusted by the gross dragon that appeared in its place.
Blake smiled and sat back down on the couch.
Yang was not impressed. That dragon in the beginning was 10 times cooler than this one.
"Here's a quick math-lesson."
"Nooooo!" Both Ruby and Yang yelled out. They did not want this game to become too mathy.
"With 1800 attack-points your Speed Warrior's about to get subtracted from the playing field." Trudge claimed as Handcuffs Dragon flew towards Speed Warrior with the intend to destroy him, showing off its teeth in the progress.
"Gross!" Weiss yelled out.
Yusei however was not planning on losing Speed Warrior. "Not if I play my face-down, Scrap-Iron Scarecrow!"
Trudge did not look pleased.
Yusei explained. "With this I can absorb your dragon's attack and save my Speed Warrior!"
"Yay!" Ruby was happy that Speed Warrior wasn't gonna be destroyed.
Blake was also pleased about this. She hadn't forgotten that that brave warrior had taken down one of those armed dogs.
She then mentally prayed that armed dogs would never become a thing, unaware Ruby was already planning on creating one.
Then Trudge looked unworried. "Huh, you mean that would have happened if not for the Wiretap trap-card!"
"What does that trap do?" Yang asked their host.
"It negates the activation of Yusei's trap and sends it back to his deck."
"Well that's not good." Weiss stated, knowing Speed Warrior could not survive that dragon's attack.
'Come on Yus, focus! You can't let this guy push you around.' Yusei thought.
"Handcuffs Dragon! Take out his monster!" Trudge ordered and the dragon obeyed. It grabbed Speed Warrior into its cuff-like mouth and started crushing him until he was destroyed. As a result, Yusei's life-points dropped to 3100.
Ruby was sad again. "That poor warrior…"
"Man, talk about a way to go." Yang stated. Getting crushed by some weird-ass dragon's mouth did not look pretty.
Blake prayed for her hero in silence.
Trudge taunted Yusei once more. "Your deck's made-up of cards others threw away and no matter how you patch it up, trash is still trash!"
"HE PLAYS WITH CARDS HE FOUND IN THE TRASH?!" Weiss shouted in horror and disgust.
"It makes sense." Yang wasn't that bothered by it. "If these cards are illegal then I doubt he can just walk into a store and buy them."
"Oh no! If that's true, then that means Yusei's deck likely doesn't have many powerful cards!" Ruby realized. "After all, people usually only throw away cards that aren't all that good."
While Weiss had to admit that it made sense that Yusei found his cards that way, she still had a hard time believing it. "But why search for cards in the trash in the first place?! Doesn't he know how dangerous that is? Not to mention unhygienic?!"
"He also build that Runner out of trash." Yang reminded her. "Giving how poor this guy is, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes through the trash daily to find useful objects."
Weiss turned green at the idea of going through the trash every day and Blake frowned at the officer. She had the feeling Trudge wasn't just talking about Yusei's cards.
If Yusei was bothered by Trudge's taunt, he did not show it.
Yusei's turn began. "It's my turn. I summon Sonic Chick in defense-mode!"
This time out of the summoning circle jumped a pink chicken wearing red shoes. It quickly put its wings over its head before turning blue.
Weiss blinked at the creature that had just been summoned. "A chicken wearing shoes? Really?"
"It's so cute!" Ruby gushed.
"Well that's… something." Yang said while rubbing the back of her head. When she heard the name Sonic Chick, she thought something a lot less… kid-friendly would appear.
Blake was more curious about something else. "Why did the chicken turn blue as soon as it was summoned? Also did Yusei say defense-mode instead of attack-mode?"
"When you summon a monster, you can summon them in attack-mode or defense-mode." Saixus explained. "They both have their own strength-number but the big difference is that a monster has to be in attack-mode in order to attack, while a monster in defense-mode can't. However if you attack a monster in defense-mode and defeat it, your opponent won't receive any damage. To show that a monster is in defense-mode rather than attack-mode, the defending monsters turn blue."
"I see…" Weiss understood. "Since Yusei can't summon anything to take that dragon out, he's playing it safe and sacrificing his weaker-monsters in favor of protecting his life-points. This game is a lot more strategic then you'd think at first glance."
Yang smirked at Weiss. "You seem to have gotten more into the game."
"I never said I was… disinterested in the game itself." Weiss admitted as she did enjoy playing games on occasion. She just hated it when she couldn't understand the rules… and was losing.
Yusei wasn't done yet. "Next I lay two cards face-down and end my turn!"
"Hahaha!" Trudge laughed at Yusei's chicken. "Just like a Satellite to hide behind junk!"
Blake frowned as Trudge was currently reminding her of a certain classmate.
"Well I'll flush you out." Trudge said confidently as he drew his next card. He smirked as soon as he saw what it was and started sending cards to his graveyard. "One, two, three!"
Trudge laughed some more as the cards he just sent do the graveyard appeared around him.
Blake flinched as soon as she saw another Assault Dog and Guard Dog going to the graveyard. "How many of those Assault Dog's does he have?!"
"Three." Saixus answered. "The maximum amount of the exact same card you can have in your deck is three and there are cards out there that are limited to two, one and some are completely forbidden. If Trudge did have another Assault Dog in his deck, he'd be cheating."
Weiss stared at Saixus. "And who exactly is gonna stop him if he was cheating?"
Saixus could once again do nothing more than raise his shoulders.
"Now by sending those three cards to my graveyard, I can special summon Montage Dragon to the field!" Trudge stated as all his cards all aimed in the same direction before beams of light escaped from the cards. The lights then combined to form a mostly blue three-headed dragon with a total attack-strength of 3000.
Each girl reacted differently to the massive dragon appearing on the field.
Ruby stared in amazement at the beast but was worried about how Yusei was gonna take this thing down.
Yang wanted to fight it.
Blake was just glad those dogs were gone.
And Weiss looked confused for the one hundredth-time. "What the-, how did he summon something so powerful to the field by sending cards from his hand to the graveyard? I thought those monsters had to be on the field first before they could be sacrificed!"
Saixus was glad he wasn't gonna have to explain everything about this dragon. "For once, the show's gonna help me out."
Yusei didn't react to Montage Dragon's appearance but Trudge was now confident in his win. "And with a powerful beast like that in play it's only a matter of time before this duel is over and I get to turn you in!"
The same artificial voice from before suddenly spoke up and explained Montage Dragon's effect. "Montage Dragon's attack points are equal to the total level of the monsters sent to the graveyard, multiplied by 300."
"See?" Saixus told her. "Montage Dragon's effect makes it so it can only be summoned by sending monsters from your hand to the graveyard. It doesn't get summoned like most other monsters."
Weiss accepted that information and did some mental-math. "He sent one level 4 and two of level 3 to the graveyard. That's 10 levels total and if you multiply that by 300, you get 3000."
"It's a good thing he only had such low level monsters in his hand." Yang pointed out. "If he had 3 level 10 monsters then that dragon could have gotten 9000 attack-points."
Weiss stared at Yang and with a smug smile stated "And here I thought you didn't like math."
Yang blinked as realization slowly dawned at her. "Oh my gosh, I just did math in my head and I didn't get bored! This game really does rule!"
"It was a pretty basic formula." Blake admitted. "But I too admit that this game is a lot more intriguing then I first thought it would be."
"We're seeing warriors, dogs, chickens and dragons fight one another!" Ruby pointed out. "How could it be boring?!"
The glasses in Yusei's helmet zoomed into Montage Dragon and revealed its attack-strength to him. "Quite the beast."
"Wait till you see it in action." Trudge said. "But first my Handcuffs Dragon is taking out your Sonic Chick."
Yusei flinched at the side of his Sonic Chick getting crushed by Handcuffs Dragon.
Ruby was sad again.
Yang on the other hand looked at her empty popcorn and was now in the mood for chicken.
Trudge turned his runner side-ways and said. "And with him out of the picture I'm just one attack from putting you away for good!"
All heads of Montage Dragon opened up and energy started gathering in each of them.
"Hold on, Yusei no longer has any monsters out on his field." Weiss pointed out. "So what's that dragon attacking?"
Saixus said nothing as the answer would be shown immediately.
"Go Power Collage!" Trudge shouted as his dragon launched three separate beams of energy directly at Yusei, dropping his life-points all the way down to 100.
Weiss' mouth was wide-open. "THE DRAGON ATTACKED YUSEI HIMSELF?!"
"That's what happens when your opponent still has a monster left to attack with and you no longer have anything left to protect yourself with." Saixus explained. "It's called a direct-attack, and if successful the number of the attacking monster's attack-points gets subtracted from the attacked duelist's life-points."
"So even when your opponent has no monsters on the field you can still attack." Blake summarized. "That means you have to play monsters or else your opponent can wipe you out with ease."
"Okay I know I've already said this multiple times but this Turbo-Dueling is a real safety hazard!" Weiss once again stated. "Sure it's a hologram so it won't really harm him but he's currently completely blinded by the attack! He could easily be riding towards a wall right now and he wouldn't see it coming!"
While Ruby was enjoying the duel she did have to admit Weiss had a point. "Now would be a really good time for that autopilot to kick in."
"I thought Saixus said it was basically useless?" Yang stated.
"Look I don't get how the autopilot's supposed to work." Saixus admitted. "But if it makes you feel any better, just imagine the autopilot kicking in at times like this."
Yusei actually seemed to get pushed back by the attack as his speed-counters dropped to 1.
Blake noticed this and realized this was a part of the game that hasn't been explained properly. "What exactly are speed-counters and why did his drop like that?"
"Every turn both players receive a speed-counter." Saixus told her. "They need those to activate speed-spells. The more counters you have, the more powerful the spells you can use. However, for every 1000 points of damage you take, you lose a speed-counter. So since Yusei just lost 3000 life-points, he also lost three speed-counters as a result.
Weiss currently wasn't listening to Saixus as her mind was on something else. "Did he just get pushed back by a virtual-attack? And what's with all the smoke?!"
"He probably drove back himself to get out of the light." Ruby figured. "As for the smoke, probably another hologram."
"Geez, that Kaiba-person spared no expense on this game now did he?" Yang couldn't help but state.
"Yeah, but small clarification." Saixus began. "Kaiba may have created the holographic technology but it was another man named Pegasus that invented the game itself."
"Oh, what was he like?" Ruby wondered.
"A jerk." Saixus stated causing RWBY to blink at him. "He got better though."
Yusei's confidence didn't waiver. "You may have knocked me down but it'll take more than that to knock me out!"
Ruby was awestruck by Yusei's confidence. He only had 100 life-points left, 1 speed-counter and had no monsters on the field! If she was in that situation, she would have figured it was hopeless to continue and cry her eyes out in defeat.
Yang meanwhile smirked at Yusei's statement. "A fighter till the bitter end huh? If this Yusei existed back here, he'd make a great huntsman."
"He does seem good at keeping a cool-head in extreme circumstances." Blake agreed.
"I suppose that's true." Weiss admitted. "But then again he's only playing a card-game."
"One that if he loses, he'll be sent to prison for!" Ruby reminded her.
Trudge was not worried. "There's not a card in your deck that can save you now."
Yusei prepared to draw and thought 'He's right-'
Yang blinked. "Don't start giving up after I call you a fighter till the end!"
'But I've never relied on just one card before and I don't plan on starting now!'
"That's better." Yang said relieved he hadn't actually giving up.
Ruby gave Yusei her full attention. "He must be planning to pull off a major come from behind victory!"
Blake agreed with Ruby. From the sound of it, Yusei already knew exactly what he needed to do to win.
'Let's see what I got for you.' Yusei drew his final card and after a few intense seconds smiled.
Yang knew that smile. That was the smile of a player who had gotten exactly what they needed.
"It's go time. I summon out, the Junk Synchron tuner-monster!" Yusei declared as he played the card he just drew.
Out of the summoning circle came a pretty weird looking monster. He looked mostly mechanical with most of his body being orange. He wore a white scarf over his neck and mouth and his attack-points read 1300.
The girls looked confused at the new monster but before they could ask Saixus stated "Keep watching for a second before asking questions."
The helpful AI spoke up again. "Junk Synchron is a level 3 tuner-monster. Tuner-monsters combine with other monsters to form more powerful synchro-monsters."
"So wait." Ruby spoke up. "Yusei can combine this monster with another one to summon a more powerful creature?"
"Correct." Saixus stated. "Tuner-monsters such as Junk Synchron can add their levels with that of another monster on the field. The result is a synchro-monster that has the same level as that of the two monsters used to summon it combined."
"So they can fuse together to make something stronger?" Yang summarized.
"No, fusion is something else entirely."
Trudge looked at Junk Synchron in disbelief. "You have a tuner-monster? That can't be!"
"Are tuner-monsters very rare?" Ruby asked.
"For a Satellite to have, yes." Saixus answered.
Ruby then asked a little confused. "Then how did Yusei get one?"
"You'd be surprised what some people throw away." Saixus told her. "Most cards found in the trash may be weak, but sometimes you find a diamond in the rough. And Yusei has had plenty of time to search."
While Ruby looked excited to see what Junk Synchron could do, Weiss started looking green again at the reminder of where Yusei found his cards.
"And yet somehow it is." Yusei replied before activating one of his face-downs. "Next up I activate the Graceful Revival trap-card. And it allows me to do what us Satellites to best, recycle my Speed Warrior from my graveyard!"
Speed Warrior jumped out of the trap-card looking good as new.
Ruby cheered at Speed Warrior's return.
Blake was also glad the noble dog-slayer was revived.
Trudge did not look happy at this new development.
Junk Synchron flew in front of Speed Warrior and then pulled on the pull-cord on its belly, causing the generators on its back to start glowing.
"Now I'll tune my Junk Synchron with my Speed Warrior to synchro-summon Junk Warrior!" Yusei stated as the light from Junk Synchron's generators completely engulfed him, causing him to turn into pure orange energy. Said energy then turned into 3 stars that then turned into 3 green rings that started heading toward Speed Warrior. Once Speed Warrior went through these rings, his body became outlined and see-through.
A massive green beam appeared besides Yusei as his synchro-summon was successful. "Let's rev it up!"
A new warrior appeared on the field which looked like it could have been the older brother of Junk Synchron. He was considerably taller though, and instead of orange he was mostly purple, but he did have the same scarf Junk Synchro had. Junk Warrior took to the sky, where it's eyes shined red before he dramatically punched the air in front of him while a purple moon shined in the background. He's attack-points read out 2300.
Ruby eyes shined at the robotic warrior taking too the sky like a superhero. He reminded her a lot of Penny except were Penny could easily be mistaken as an ordinary girl, there was no mistaken Junk Warrior for a normal person.
"Junk Warrior?" Weiss was skeptical about this new monster while Yang snickered at the name. "Well it is the strongest monster Yusei has played so far but with 2300 attack-points it's still too weak to take out Montage Dragon. He could use it to take out Handcuffs Dragon but that will only damage Trudge for 500 life-points and since he still has 3400 left-"
Saixus interrupted her. "I'd keep watching before you make any hasty conclusions. In Duel Monsters, things can quickly change drastically."
Trudge was sweating a bit but figured he still had the lead. "Clever move, but your monster's still not strong enough to stop my Montage Dragon. Looks like after all that you still underestimated the power of my beast!"
Yusei continued his turn. "And you underestimated the power of my deck. Go Vision Wind!"
The card Vision Wind appeared on the field and Trudge looked surprised. "My Vision Wind? You won that from that from me on your last day at the reeducation center. What are you gonna do with it?"
"What do you mean, what's he gonna do with it?!" Weiss angrily repeated as she was really starting to wonder how low that officers IQ was. "If that card was originally yours then surely you know what it does!"
Yusei started explaining. "Win this duel! As I'm sure you remember-"
Yang smirked at Yusei being passive-aggressive. "No he doesn't."
"With it I can special-summon one level 2 or below monster from my graveyard, and I summon my Speed Warrior!"
Speed Warrior appeared back on the field right besides Junk Warrior.
Yusei then used Junk Warriors ability. "With it on the field, Junk Warriors special-ability activates, making Junk Warrior 900 points stronger."
Junk Warrior shined bright as it attack-points raised to 3200.
"Awesome!" Ruby cheered. "Now Junk Warrior's the strongest monster on the field!"
Saixus frowned a little bit. He wanted to tell them that Junk Warrior's effect only allows it to absorb the attack-points of every level 2 or below monster at the moment that it's summoned, which means Junk Warrior couldn't have absorbed Speed Warrior's attack-points since it appeared AFTER he had already been summoned. He decided against telling the girls though since he did not want them to think Yusei was cheating.
(Update: I know that Junk Warrior's effect simply works differently in the anime and that Yusei isn't cheating and that I'm beating a dead-horse.)
Trudge helmet showed to total attack-strength of Junk Warrior. "How could I let a punk kid from the Satellite Sector get the upper hand? With that power…"
Trudge and Yusei continued driving into another building-complex. "My Junk Warrior's gonna make sure me and Rally stay free."
Junk Warriors jet-pack boosters kicked in before he delivered a devastating punch to Handcuffs Dragon's face, causing Trudge's life-points to drop to 2000.
"All right." Yang cheered. "One dragon gone, one more to go."
Despite losing 1400 life-points, Trudge did not look worried. "I bet you thought that by attacking you'd only be hurting me when in fact you really just hurt yourself!"
Suddenly Handcuffs Dragon reappeared on the field but instead of returning to Trudge's field, it attached itself to Junk Warrior and drained it's power by 1800 points. Leaving Junk Warrior with only 1400.
"But that's nothing new is it?" Trudge reminisced. "As I recall you were always one to act first and think second."
While the girls were worried about Junk Warrior's attack points getting drained, RWB couldn't help but give Yang a look.
"…What?" Yang asked confused.
Trudge continued. "Reminds me of the time you tried to break curfew with Rally. You never thought you'd be caught but one never does until they are. I can still remember the scared look on Rally's face. And I can't wait to see it again once your friend is rounded up."
"Oh that son of a-" Yang spoke out angrily. "He promised Yusei he would leave Rally out of this!"
"Is it really that surprising that he's willing to break his promise?" Blake asked rhetorically but not masking her anger.
"Don't tell me Rally only got that mark on his face because he broke curfew?!" Weiss practically shouted.
"Wouldn't Yusei have gotten one too then?" Ruby asked. "They were both caught so why would only Rally get a mark then."
"Maybe the kid took the heat for him?" Yang offered as a reason. "Told Security he convinced Yusei to break curfew with him so they decided to only punish him?"
"Good theory." Saixus commented as he himself wasn't sure why Rally got that mark.
Yusei was not planning on to give up. "Well keep waiting, cuz I'm not losing."
"Not what?!" Trudge asked in disbelief.
Yusei played his final face-down "I activate the trap-card Equip Shot. This releases my warrior from your dragon's grip and lets me use its ability against you!"
Junk Warrior grabbed Handcuffs Dragon and tore him off before launching the equipable monster towards Montage Dragon, lowering its attack-points to 1200.
Trudge stared at his dragons in disbelief. "You can't use my monster against me!"
"He just did!" Ruby cheered with her hand in the air.
"Using your opponent's own strategy against them…" Weiss observed with an impressed look. "With this I completely disagree with that officer's earlier statement. Yusei definitely thinks first before he acts."
"He completely turned this duel around using every single card he had present on the field." Blake stated also impressed with Yusei's strategy.
Yang smirked at the side of Montage Dragon getting squeezed by Handcuffs Dragon. "Looks like Montage Dragon's has a little, cuff!"
RWB looked down at Yang's bad pun.
"Growing up one the streets I learned to become very resourceful, using everything to my advantage. And that includes using my opponents own moves against themselves." Yusei finished his speech as Junk Warrior got ready for another attack.
Blake was both impressed at Yusei's resourcefulness as well as downhearted that he had to become so resourceful to survive on those streets. She hoped Yusei would eventually be able to get a better life. Him, and the rest of the people trapped on that island.
Weiss couldn't let the duel end before asking one more question. "Why does his warrior look like he's about to attack again? He already attacked this turn and every other monster we've seen until now could only attack once. Shouldn't Trudge get another turn before Junk Warrior can attack again?"
"Equip Shot forces the monster that just lost the equipped card to attack the monster that received it." Saixus explained. "In other words, this is going to be the final battle of the duel."
"Go Yusei, Junk Warrior!" Ruby yelled out. "Show that dragon whose boss!"
As if hearing Ruby's cheer, Yusei made his final move. "Junk Warrior end this."
Junk Warrior's eyes shined upon hearing its master's command. He readied his fist as his jetpack flared up, launching him at maximum speed towards his target. He was going so fast he could barely be seen. As he made contact with Montage Dragon, it looked like Junk Warrior had turned into a giant version of his own fist. Montage Dragon exploded and Trudge lost all of his life-points as he screamed in defeat.
RWBY stared in astonishment at the attack that could only be described as epic, Yang especially.
"That… was the most beautiful punch I have ever seen." She said slowly and planned to talk to Ruby later. Somehow, someway, Yang was getting a jetpack.
A giant red X appeared on Trudge's Patrol-Runner screen indicating his defeat. The Duel-Runner released a lot of steam before coming to a complete halt.
Even though she had been warned in advance, Weiss face-palmed again for good measure.
Trudge had a look of denial in his face as he eventually said "There goes my promotion. Guess I'm going back to being a Duel-Runner meter maid."
"You allowed a suspect to escape capture because you wanted all the glory for yourself." Weiss stated, convinced this officer was not getting away without consequences. "You'd be lucky to still have a job after this!"
Trudge looked at the victor of the duel as he decided to give him some final words. "You mentioned earlier how you wanted to teach me a lesson. Well how about I leave you with this. Don't underestimate us Satellites or our decks. Cuz what you see as weakness is what truly makes us strong."
Ruby nodded at Yusei's lesson. "Yeah, never underestimate the little guy! People do that with me all the time and I always surprise them in the end."
"Trudge went into this battle unprepared." Blake agreed with Yusei's statement. "He figured he could easily take Yusei down, which is probably the main-reason he agreed to duel Yusei in the first place. He didn't think he could lose, and his overconfidence ended up costing him the match."
"But talk about coming back from behind though!" Yang stated. "Remind me never to play 'Remnant: The Game' against him."
Weiss mentally agreed with Yang but pointed out the obvious error. "Considering he's from another universe, it's highly unlikely we'll ever meet him."
Yusei speeded off, leaving Trudge in the dust. He radioed one final message to the defeated officer. "Tell Jack thanks for the chip."
Trudge grunted his teeth together in frustration. "Things ain't over between you and me."
"Well that's ominous." Yang said. "Maybe we'll see this guy again in a later episode."
Weiss hoped they didn't. She'd rather forget about the incompetent officer as fast as possible. "If he does show up in the future, he'd better no longer be a member of that Security-force."
Yusei drove for a while before stopping in the middle of the highway. He looked at New Domino City in the distance and said "Get ready Domino City. I'm coming."
The camera zoomed out at the shot of Yusei staring at the city before everything faded to black.
Saixus turned to the four girls who's room he had accidentally broken into and asked "So what did you girls think?"
Ruby was the first to answer. "That was awesome! Yusei and Trudge were going so fast but stillmanagedtoplayacardgameagainstoneanotherandIwassoworriedforYuseibecauseheseemedtobelosingbutthen-"
"Ruby breath!" Her older sister interrupted. "Yeah it was cool but there's no need to put everything in one sentence."
Ruby breathed in and out before talking again. "Sorry but that was just so cool! I loved the action between the monsters and I sooooo want to play that game now! Please tell me they sell this game on our world."
"Sorry Rubes." Yang told her little sister. "I've never heard of that game until today so I doubt we can play it. And even if it does exist, it would probably not involve any holograms or motorcycles… that is unless a certain Ice Queen of ours can call some people-"
"Absolutely not!" Weiss shouted. "The scientists of Atlas have more important things to do then try and create a holographic system for a card-game!"
Ruby looked dejected while Blake decided to continue the review. "This world may not have Grimm, but that doesn't mean it's without pain. The people of the Satellite most not have it easy on that tiny island filled with nothing but scrap. I hope these people will eventually be able to leave that place and life better lives."
"As for me, I think this show rocks!" Yang declared with both fists in the air. "Motorcycles, monsters, high-speed chases and great looking battle-sequences! Where has this show been all my life?"
Weiss rolled her eyes at Yang's response before saying "While the premise of the show does look childish, I must admit that it surprised me quite a bit. This 'Duel Monsters' as it is called is not just about who has the fanciest cards but it also requires strategy and cunning. Also Yusei seems to have a pretty decent head on his shoulders. I think I would have liked this show much less if he was as idiotic as that Trudge character."
"Well I'm glad you all enjoyed the first episode." Saixus said as he got ready to start the next episode. "Quick question before I start episode 2, are any of you afraid of bugs?"
The girls looked at each other but only Weiss shuttered at the mention of the little pests. "Please don't tell me there are gonna be creepy crawlies in the next episode."
"Uhm, Weiss?" Yang pointed to the title of the next episode which read 'Creepy Crawlies'.
Weiss deadpanned and shivered as if she had a cold but knew Saixus was not going to skip it by simply asking nicely. "Just get it over it."
Saixus did just that as he pressed play.
Feel free to let me know what you thought of my chapter in the reviews and see you guys next time.
MasterSaixus, signing off.
