"NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!" Daniel was curled into a ball, rocking himself back and forth. The medical personnel surrounded him and it made him feel uneasy and scared. He was violently shaking, being only in a light hospital gown was not the only reason though.
Janet was worried he'd tear the IV apart or out of his arm or hurt himself in some other way. She was trying to talk to him, knowing she's the one who he knew the most form her whole team. She hoped that she, as a familiar face, would help Daniel recognize he wasn't in danger anymore. But as of now he seemed still in grips of the terror he'd been through.
"Daniel! Hey, Daniel! Look at me!" Jack almost yelled, due to the noise in the hospital room. He wanted Daniel to focus on him, hoping he'd be able to calm him. But was doubting that, too.
He had spent more than an hour with Sam's still body, looking at her as she laid there all thin and blue. Now he was freezing. The temperature in the morgue was very low obviously, and the run to the infirmary didn't warm him up at all. He only felt numb, shell-shocked and desperate. He wanted to be there for Daniel, knowing how much Sam hurt when he brushed her off after Daniel had died the first time. God, she'd suffered so much and there was nothing he could have done. He'd been in no shape to talk to anyone then. He'd only have added to her pain. But this time he won't mess up, he'd do this for Sam. She would want him to take care of Daniel. They are a team, they take care of each other, don't they? He should have gotten them all out sooner, he was responsible for all the SGC personnel. Not to mention he felt responsible for her from the minute she has been a member of SG-1.
Just remembering her in dress blues, her blond hair brightening that dull conference room as she saluted him for the first time. Then she recited her combat experience and insisted he'd refer to her by her rank. He knew right then she'd be a pistol. And he'd been right. How many times had she saved him and the whole team, the whole planet and the galaxy probably? And on top of that she was truly kind, loyal and impressive in all the right ways. Sometimes he fantasized about things being different, but there was always another enemy that needed to be defeated, until one of those killed the most important thing in his life.
He didn't realized Daniel was screaming until he felt Janet's hand on his arm. He didn't even realized flood of tears was pouring down his own cheeks. So what? Nothing mattered. And then he heard his friend's begging.
"I'm so sorry, Jack. So sorry! You have to believe, I tried to save her! I tried to save her… I tried…tried…" Daniel's screaming molded into little whispers as his hysterical sobbing took over. "So sorry, she didn't, she let them… I tried to fight them, you have to believe me."
"Daniel." Jack said in the calmest voice he was capable of at that moment. The archeologist was still trembling, his eyes staring in the distance at nothing in particular. When Jack tried to hold his hand, he flinched away, even though Jack knew that meant great deal of pain for him. He locked eyes with Janet, who gestured for him to go slower.
"Jack, I'm sorry. So sorry."
The nurses have all moved away to give them some space, it was only Janet and Jack near the bed.
"Daniel, can you let Janet take care of you?" Jack said, softly. Finally Daniel looked up at them, unsure and subconsciously shifting away from them.
"Sorry..." Daniel repeated, too exhausted to speak more coherently.
"We all are, buddy. But Sam and Teal'c would want you okay and healthy. So do what the good doctor says, alright?" Jack stated, very firmly, but trying not to intimidate his traumatized friend.
"I can't. I can't do this, Jack. I understand now." Daniel lowered his head towards his chest and hugged his knees close to his body.
"I'm here for you, space monkey. We'll get through this." Jack grabbed a chair and sat next to the bed while Janet was trying to comfort Daniel. "It's going to be okay."
