Glowing lights

"FOX MAGIC!" A small and brave Shippo called out. Transforming the once small spin top to a large spin top now almost half the size of the trees around him.

It spun on top of the head of a large salamander demon. It amused the young Shippo how familiar the sight was to him. As when he first fought against a large demon like this he was much to frightened and weak. But now he was easily able to make it run away with its tail between it's legs. Just one more attack and he wins.

"FOX FIRE!!" Shippo shouted as a blue flame went burning largely around the demon.

"Owwwww!! Ooo! Hot hot hot hot!!" The salamander demon ran off holding onto it's green and slimey backside whilst running to find water.

"Hooray! Bonzai!" Goho, Ippo, Jippo, Sanpo and Shiho all exclaimed in unison. "That was amazing Shippo! No wonder your climbing so quickly in the fox exams!" Ippo the eldest of the fox demon brothers exclaimed. With his younger brothers behind in agreeance.

"Yeah thanks. You guys are getting pretty strong yourselves." Shippo said kindly to his old friends.

They all sat and snacked on some homemade rice balls Rin had made while they all caught up and talked about their fox exams and adventures.

"See you soon!" Shippo waved off his friends.

"Goodbye Shippo!! Thanks again for the lunch!" Ippo and his four brothers waved. They walked off into the opposite direction happily back home.

Shippo to was happy and ready to go home. He missed his small group of friends whenever he would leave but continued to do so to become a great fox demon.

Another reason he often left was because being in that village without her there hurt so badly.

She was his best and truest friend. She always stuck up for him and even risked her own life many times for his own safety.

There wasn't a single thing about her he didn't miss. The young fox demon was slowly brought out of his sad thoughts by a cheerful voice.

"Hey Shippo!" He was greeted with enthusiasm and a large smile.

Had Shippo not known any better he had thought it to be his very missed Kagome.

Rin had a beauty all on her own mostly from within. Not that she wasn't a total cutie on the outside, her endearing and unconditional love for someone was just so surreal.

She was very blunt and open and never tip toed around important or tough topics. She was just like Kagome. Fearless, free and loving. And if she got angry than make way! The small fox demon smiled to himself and immediately returned her enthusiastic greeting.

"Rin!" Shippo ran up and hugged her tightly. "How have you been? How is training going?" Shippo and the girl walked back as they indulged in small talk.

"Really good! I've learned so much! General Buru is teaching me how to stand my ground with more confidence. Lord Hagetaka has taught me the most beautiful traditions and customs of a noble demon family. And Tokage is trying to form me into a perfect lady." Rin giggled at the last part. "He just isn't doing a very good job at it." Rin added with her closed eyed giggles.

Shippo smiled and laughed along with her as they both shared tales of their past weeks.

"I grew 3 levels with that trick!" Shippo finished his tale as he and Rin sat drinking tea with Miroku, Sango, the twins, Kaede and Inuyasha. Kohaku was off at a demon slayer job with Kirara and greatly missed by the young girl. Everyone shared in praising the young fox demon.

Suddenly Rin gave a saddened sigh. Catching the attention of everyone in the room.

"What ails ye child?" Kaede sipped her tea looking to the sad young girl before her.

"Oh nothing Lady Kaede. I was just thinking about how Kohaku would be missing the lantern festival..And I guess I just wish he was here." Rin smiled still with sadness.

Sango nudged Miroku in the side with her elbow with a mischievous grin of I told you so.

"Oh it'll be ok Rin. Hopefully he will be home soon. I'm sure he'll make it up to you." Sango hugged the young girl by her shoulders.

"Aye, we wish the boy could be here to partake in the festivities. However we all must always heed the responsibilities one takes upon thine self." Kaede finished her words in hopes to lighten the girls mood.

"He might still make it. You never know." Shippo said biting into a sweet dumpling.

"Did you and Kohaku have something planned perhaps?" Miroku asked still rubbing his side from his wifes aggressive nudge.

"No, I just have nobody to go with now. If Kohaku were with me I could bring Ah-Un easily. To go by myself with Ah-Un is...It's just not the same is all.." Rin lifted her head giving as kind a smile as she can munster. "It's better off though! Now hopefully someone can wake early for once and I can finish training before leaving and not be so late getting home as usual.!?" Rin looked teasingly to Inuyasha.

"Eh whatever! You want my help or not! I ain't gotta train you ya know!!" Inuyasha spat back in his typical irritation while everyone else giggled mildly.

"You are right. I am so sorry Inuyasha thank you for going out of your way." Rin smiled honestly giving her thanks to the short tempered half demon.

"Yeah, yeah whatever." Inuyasha walked out of the hut in irritation with his arms crossed.

Everyone laughed for a moment longer before leaving to the autumn festival.

"Come Rin. You can accompany Sango and I as we take the girls.?" Miroku offered one last time.

"Thank you Miroku. I truly am thankful I'd just rather rest." Rin smiled and waved as she walked home assuming that's where Inuyasha stormed off to anyway.

The couple sighed in defeat and went back to tending their ever growing girls.

Yous deserve a peaceful family night. I would never wish to intrude. Rin thought as she took her long walk back.

Rin soon found herself skipping happily instead of dragging disappointingly.

I CAN PAINT SOMETHING FOR LORD SESSHOMARU! I can use all the new things he bought for me! I've never used them since he left them for me on my birthday! Rins thoughts filled with loving memories of her lord Sesshomaru.

And soon happiness turned back into sadness as she imagined Jaken taunting her and Ah-Un misbehaving with the small green demon.

I miss you so much.. Rin felt a single tear fall from her eyes. It wasn't just her lord she missed. It was everything about her life prior to living in this village.

Yes it had just been a year and one filled with danger and death. But it was magical and happy and she felt loved and at home walking beside her demon companions.

Soon making it to her shared home Rin looked up in surprise. Inuyasha was holding the reigns of a compliant Ah-Un. Rin rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Her head soon tilted confusedly.

"Well come on then kid." Inuyasha began walking.

Rin stared in shock. Once Inuyasha had passed by her Ah-Un started licking and nuzzling her. Rin smiled and rubbed both heads. "Umm? Where are we going?" Rin looked to the half demon who if it wasn't so dark out she could swear she had seen him blushing.

"Look do you wanna go to that dumb lantern thing or not!" Inuyasha barked annoyed at the small girl.

Rins head jumped up in excitement. "Oh yes!! Thank you! Thank you so much Inuyasha!" Rin exclaimed clapping happily up and down.

She grabbed the reigns of Ah-Un and walked beside the half demon in her ombré Kimono in colors of deep orange and a plum like purple with a deep forest green obi. Her hair was long and tied in a side ponytail with a deep orange silk ribbon.

The festival was filled with silly games and foods of all kinds. And just like last year Rin was happy to eat it all! And this time she had help! Her and Inuyasha and Ah-Un ate until they turned green in the face. Except Ah-Un. He one was already green and two was never full.

"Oh I love this song! My father use to play it as my mother sang! Rin exclaimed with her hands to her face. She dare not ask Inuyasha to dance knowing he'd been kind enough to bring her here so she wasn't about to ask more of him.

"Yeah I know this song..My mom would dance around with me to it.." Inuyasha saddened at the old and precious memory of his mother so happy. "Hey..do ya...wanna?" Inuyasha was hesitant with his words and very quiet.

Rin still knew exactly what he was saying and her face smiled greatly. "Yes! Thank you!" She grabbed his hands making it seem like he was more forced into it. She knew he was prideful and didn't want him to lose his strong and rude reputation.

They danced around foolishly as Rin didn't know to dance any other way. And Inuyasha didn't mind at all. At first his face was angered and sour as usual. However. As the dance continued he became more and more happy and even laughed and smiled along with her.

After working up an appetite for the sixth time of the evening, Inuyasha and Rin set off with Ah-Un and the rest of the village to make paper lantern boats with a small white candle inside to send them off. Rin painted a tree with no leaves and wrote down each person she loved name as the leaves. Inuyasha scribbled a poor attempt of his tessaiga. Rin folded the paper and handed it to Inuyasha. She laughed at seeing how beautiful to her their lantern looked with Inuyashas sword and her tree of family and friends. With Sesshomarus name of course written the cleanest and at the very top with Jaken just beneath.

"Nah, you go ahead. I ain't in to this stupid stuff." Inuyasha smiled at the drawing Rin had done and how it glowed through the translucent paper actually making his Tessaiga look better.

"How about we both do it?" Rin offered holding it up to Inuyasha.

Inuyasha sighed and crossed his arms. "Fine! But no more buggin me after this kid!"

Inuyasha walked her over to the rivers bank and Rin sat so close to Inuyasha she was practically sitting on his lap. Inuyasha blushed slightly at her cupping his hands and setting the small paper boat on the water. Rin smiled and leaned back into Inuyasha.

"Your so different from lord Sesshomaru.." Rin stared at the small boat sailing and glowing.

"Yeah no shit." Inuyasha rolled his eyes at her comment.

Rin giggled and made Inuyasha blush and look to her weirdly. He could feel her body vibrating against his which made his appearance become awkward and uncomfortable.

"I don't mean it in a bad way. I just meant you both smell very different, act very different and feel very different. When Lord Sesshomaru would hold me from a storm, or from a bad nightmare he felt very strong and super comfy and warm. You kinda strong but definitely not comfy. And your kinda cold and sweaty at the same time?" Rin turned her attention away from the lights slowly floating away. "What's the matter? You seem bothered?" Rin asked with innocent eyes and a delicately small finger to her chin. Her beautiful brown eyes were wide and questioning while her lips seemed to form an "O" in confusion.

"Ugh!?!? What! No way! I'm just...ugh!?? Well get off me already would ya! If I'm so cold and sweaty or whatever!!" Inuyasha barked loudly and rudely as always.

Rin blinked and hugged him tightly smiling into his body. "I don't mean it in a bad why. You are my friend! And I can never thank you enough for such an amazing night!" Rin stood up stumbling to get off. She tried swirling her arms around quickly trying to keep herself from falling backwards only to grab on to Inuyashas ears and tug tightly.

"Ow!! Let go of wha? Whoa!!" Inuyasha was soon met with a mouth full of water. As was Rin. They both steadied themselves and slowly came up from the bank coughing. Rin looked to Inuyasha for a minute with Inuyasha doing the same. Soon they both busted out in a fit of laughter.

"Your covered in mud!" Rin pointed and laughed.

"Your one to talk! Your covered in mud and grass!" Inuyasha laughed back.

The girl wiped her face with fingers full of mud and smeared it across Inuyashas face.

Inuyasha stunned for a second dug his hand into the mud and flung it at her. Rin laughed harder at having a hair full of mud now.

After a few flying mud pies they both stood and walked back to Ah-Un still talking and laughing.

"Child! Good god what happen to ye?" Kaede grabbed Rin checking her for any harm.

"Nothing I'm fine. Just a little clumsy is all." Rin smiled through her muddy face.

"I'm guessing Inuyasha wasn't much help himself?" Miroku joked looking at the more filthier than usual half demon.

"Hey it ain't my fault!" Inuyasha spat aggressively.

"Calm down Inuyasha. I wasn't blaming you." Miroku sighed in irritation to his friends quick temper.

"We are fine just a little messy is all. See yous tomorrow!" Rin waved with Ah-Un in hand. "Goodnight!"

"Hey kid wait for me! It's my home!" Inuyasha jumped up high to close the gap between them.

"Have ye ever seen a more odd friendship?" Kaede asked to Miroku watching the young girl walk away.

"Yes. It actually appears all to familiar." Miroku smiled and walked away from a sight brang back such fond memories.

Now back home Rin gathered a small bucket of water and two rags just enough to clean their faces. Inuyasha was in shock that she had no problem sleeping with dried mud on her legs and feet like he did. He wiped his face though with the offered rag and Rin did the same.

"I can bathe tomorrow." Rin smiled. As she went to dump the now dirty water. "Inuyasha! Look!" Rin dropped the bucket alarming Inuyasha.

He jumped up and readied himself with his hand on the tessaiga ready to pull it any second.

"What! What's out there?" Inuyasha saw nothing.

"Look over there! Rin pointed to the lights that slowly moved through the trees far out into the distance. "It's so beautiful!" Rin sighed out peacefully.

"Agh man you called me out here for that? Your so weird? Heh whatever. Goodnight kid." Inuyasha walked back in and went to sleep almost instantly.

"Goodnight." Rin waved to the lanterns as if she had seen someone dancing on top of the glowing lights.

A/N: So I just realized that this story is like a compilation of one shots going into a story. And I'm sorry if that seems confusing. Anyway some chapters are longer while others painfully shorter. Hope yous are enjoying thus far. Please review and criticize. I am always appreciative to hear what yous think. Thanks for reading! God bless.
