"Lindsey?" A tired looking Sara Sidle asked as she opened the door to her ground level apartment.
"Can I come in?" The young blonde, who looked more and more like her mother every day, asked quietly.
"Of course," Sara said, stepping to the side and letting the 15 year old step inside. "Does your mom know where you are?"
"She's not home." Lindsey replied, sitting down on the couch in Sara living room.
"Oh," Sara said.
"Can I have some water?" Lindsey asked.
"Sure," Sara replied. Sometimes this is what victims needed before they could talk – a minute to think.
"Here." Sara said, handing the tall glass to Lindsey and sitting across from her. "You want to tell me what's wrong?"
"I just…" Lindsey started. "My mom and I had a fight. I thought you might understand. I mean, you're the only one of my mom's girl friends I know. Maybe I can talk to you and you can talk to her."
"Maybe."
"I posed naked for my boyfriend."
"You what?"
"I didn't…he needed a subject for this art project he did. I was his model." Lindsey explained quickly. "It wasn't like I was just ass naked. You can't even see anything."
"How did your mom find out?"
"Well, he gave the picture to me. It was in my room. She went in to look for something…"
"And she found it."
"Its just art. I mean, it's not liking I'm stripping."
"Please tell me you didn't tell her that."
"No. I told her it's not like we slept together or whatever."
"You mean…" Sara started.
"No. I haven't slept with anyone!" Lindsey said. "Mom must make me sound like such a awful kid."
"No, but she worries about you because of how much time she spends at work. She's worried that your life isn't normal enough."
"She thinks I want normalcy? It's so overrated!" Lindsey said.
"I think you should tell HER that. And tell her that you aren't sleeping around. She just wants to make sure you're growing up okay."
"Yeah."
"And maybe you shouldn't pose nude for awhile. Just let your mom think you're still a kid for a little while longer."
Lindsey agreed with Sara and Sara gave her a ride back home.
"When you're mom gets home, don't forget to tell her you love her!" Sara said as Lindsey was getting out.
"Thanks, Sara. For everything. No wonder my mom thinks so highly of you." Lindsey smiled and slammed the door behind her, then bounded up the steps and let herself into the house.
Sara would never admit how much she'd looked up to Catherine since she started working in Vegas, but it was good to know that Catherine thought well of her. It's almost like Vegas really was becoming a home she never had.
