An unworthy vassal

A soft warm breeze blew dark tresses across milky smooth skin. Sweat dropped from around her forehead from the unrelenting rays of the summer sun.

She stood readied for attack to defend herself in a moments notice in her black slayers uniform with purple guards of armor on her shoulders, torso and knees. She held a long spear in her right hand and a long chain swirling around in her left.

She awaited for the slightest hint of sound. She steadied her breath and calmed her mind to focus on everything around her that her eyes could not.

SWISH! A rustling in the trees gave away the position of her foe! She threw her spear in the direction of the falling leaves but sent her chain flying in the opposite direction wrapping around the ankle of her enemy!

"Whoa! Ow!" Her enemy slammed into the ground before her.

"Ha!" I got you Kohaku!" Rin tugged tightly on the chain making Kohaku fall on his back.

"Ha ha! Good job kid! You relied on your sense of hearing rather than your eyes." Inuyasha clapped and came out from hiding removing the blindfold he had tied earlier around her hazel eyes.

"Very impressive Rin! You've gotten to be so strong." Miroku spoke his words of encouragement while sitting with his growing family of five.

"I don't know whats more impressive? Your growing skills or Inuyashas ability to teach such refinement?" Sango mocked with an innocent chuckle.

"Yeah it seems like only yesterday Inuyasha would just blindly rush into battle. Heck had it not been for Sesshomaru blinding him I don't think Inuyasha would have ever figured out the wind scar." Shippo teased with regret almost immediately.

A fist came down hard on his head. "Wanna watch what your saying ya little twerp!" Inuyasha spoke with anger as the bump on Shippos head swelled tremendously.

"It's ok Inuyasha. You guys can talk about lord Sesshomaru around me... I'm not a kid anymore.." Rin spoke reverting her spear and chain back into one small weapon. "I am a little exhausted though? Can we turn it in for today?" Rin said while helping her friend from the ground.

"Look let's get one thing straight! I don't care one way or another about tip toeing over my stupid brothers name around ya! What I do care about is anyone suggesting that jerk helped me with anything! That just ain't true!" Inuyasha lied. He didn't like people talking about Kagome when she was gone and he knew deep down inside Rin didn't like people talking about Sesshomaru.

"But lord Sesshomaru did help you many times? Without lord Sesshomaru you wouldn't have the meido zangetsuha. Not to mention the time he saved your life from that blast from so unga. Or when.."

"Ok! Ok already enough! I get it! Geeze!" Inuyasha stormed off in annoyance. "I helped him out and saved his ass more times than I can count for the record!!" Inuyasha yelled back satisfied with getting in the last word.

They all laughed and continued looking to Rin with excitement.

"You've gotten really good at managing your weapon to respond to your mind. You are even handling it in separates. It is still amazing to me how your dagger can do all that." Kohaku said rubbing his sore shoulders.

"Thank you Kohaku." Rin bowed and took a swing of water that Sango handed her.

"Your training with Koga is really starting to pay off to. Your training so hard." Sango chuckled while bouncing Hisui.

"Hm, thank you." Rin smiled and packed her things.

"Rin why don't you come with us? You deserve a break from chores for one day?" Miroku offered kindly.

"What Good is it taking a break from chores with three crying babies all around?" Kohaku said jokingly. "Come on Rin there is somewhere I'd like to take you if your up for it?" Kohaku nudged his friend into joining.

"I'm sorry Kohaku. I really am just a little tired. I think I'll go and rest. See you all later! Thanks for everything!" Rin waved lovingly and ran off to the lake.

She stripped herself of all her slayer attire slowly and walked gracefully into the water. Once she was submerged up to her shoulders she began swimming further and further away.

She relaxed her body satisfied with being far enough that no one could see her. She began floating enjoying the cool water and the warm sun.

Her bruised breast peaked just out the water in which she lazed about. Her tummy was bruised in tones of green and purples as it was healing still toned and flat from her intensive training. Her long dark hair spread out like black wings on the water. Her hair had become so long now. She had grown into such a lovely young lady she wondered if Sesshomaru would even recognize her at all.

Lord Sesshomaru, I'm so worried.. Have you forsaken me lord Sesshomaru? Have you forsaken Ah-Un for saving me? Are you ever gonna be able to forgive my weakness? Rin silently thought to herself for what felt like hours.

I guess I should be heading back now.sigh..I wish so much to see you again my lord..even though I am undeserving of such..

Rin dried herself off with her towel and began dressing in a common kimono Kaede had lent her since she no longer had any by Sesshomaru that fit.

It was a burgundy red kimono with no design or color. It had some patched fabrics in the arms and the sides from being torn before. It had no obi and simply tied shut from within.

Rin struggled slightly dressing as it still hurt her to move from that evening three nights ago. She tied a beige apron that was stained around her waist. She combed out her hair and than pinned her flower hair pin up to hold her long locks of hair from falling into her face. It may not have looked it, but it was Rins little way to keep her signature single high pony tail with a more refined and mature look.

Not that it mattered to Rin very much though. If she had it her way she'd still be walking barefooted and covered in mud. She slipped on her black slippers which were the last pair of shoes that still fit her.

Rin walked back home slowly reflecting on her last three years spent without her lord. It wasn't like they were horribly awful with the exception of being attacked.

Rin took Kaede like a mother and Sango, Miroku and Kohaku were like family. She loved all three of Sangos kids so much she'd treat them like her own.

Shippo was just another great friend regardless of his age or demonic stature.

Kagome, now returned to their world of demon and magic was like a breath of fresh air. Rin loved spending time with her, talking and joking with her, and learning various spiritual skills from the young priestess. Even in the short period of time she considered Kagome a great friend.

With Kagome their Kaede was a little more lenient on Rin, which gave her more time to focus on herself or her paintings she enjoyed so much. Now that everyone eased up on chores do to worry for her.

She hated being treated as such an incapable and delicate thing. But decided to use it to her advantage and take some time for herself.

She still trained with the torturous three, however she hadn't seen them since she acquired such bruises. Her shame prevented her from doing so.

Rin managed to make a best friend in Rashini a handmaiden to the lady Inukimi. Who she missed dearly. She was always so easy to talk to and laugh with.

Rin also missed the lady of the west who enjoyed dressing Rin like her own little baby doll and styling her hair in various odd styles, something Rin did not mind as she loved sitting with the lady Inukimi and hearing tales of her lord growing up.

In these three years she even managed to over come her fear of the wolf demons that once took her life. She now trained with the very demon who commissioned her death. And in all honesty enjoyed it. He was kind and very strong and Rin absolutely adored his wife Ayame. Who would teach Rin various demon magics and how to hunt.

Rin had many tutors and teachers and friends. And yet all of them somehow failed in comparison to the one demon she just could not forget.

Rin walked into Inuyasha and Kagomes shared home and sat her training gear down and packed away all her things. She sighed a melancholy tone missing the times she spent here. Now it just acted as her closet since Kaede was much to sick to stay alone and Rin much to sore to move anything.

Rin gathered some root vegetables she had hidden away and walked behind the empty home and went to her two headed friend who was sleeping. Only one head opened its eye to see it was only Rin, it than drifted back to sleep. Rin set the veggies down for Ah-Un for when they woke later that day. She petted them lightly leaving a butterfly kiss on each of their heads before making her way to Kaede.

Her trail was long and boring and Rin tried to think of different ways to keep herself entertained. Rins biggest flaw was how easily bored the young girl would become. And when that would happen she'd usually just trail off to find something interesting.

"Hello lady Kaede! I'm back!" Rin walked in yawning hiding her exhaustion with her exuberant energy.

"Hey Rin! How was training?!" Kagome said enthusiastically as she sat with her feet tucked beneath her, drinking tea with Kaede.

"Afternoon child. Ye look exhausted? Are ye alright?" Kaede asked worried for the girl she'd come to love as her own. It made her sick seeing Rin come home that night, but she knew the young girl better than to show her worry.

"It went very well. Thank you for asking. How are you doing Kagome?" Rin asked with her kind and loving smile. She walked over to Kaede giving her a kiss on her older wrinkled head. "I'm perfectly fine lady Kaede. Don't worry about me. How are you feeling?" Rin asked taking a seat next to Kaede.

"This old woman be perfectly healthy. Ye need not concern thy self I assure ye." Kaede cuddled the girl closer to her. Allowing Rin to find rest upon her chest just over her heart.

"I am doing well. Kaede hear was just showing me a few of your paintings. They are all amazing Rin! Have you ever considered selling them? I'm sure lots of people would love to have them." Kagome asked the young girl with a warm smile.

"Sell them? I could never! That would be like putting a price on my memories or my friendships!" Rins eyes immediately feared at the thought of parting with her only means of seeing her forgotten lord and old mentor.

"It wouldn't be like that? Showcase some of your art at the market place, and if someone really likes it you can make them a copy or yourself a copy. Plus wouldn't you like the world to know and praise Sesshomaru? I know his ego would definitely like it." Kagome joked with her innocent giggles.

Rin stood silent for a moment. She was angered by the way Kagome spoke of Sesshomaru but knew she could say nothing as now Kagome was considered to be much closer to her lord than Rin was.

"Plus you could always use the extra money? I can see your down to your last outfit and shoes. If Sesshomaru is still busy he won't be able to provide these things for you. And you seem like a very independent girl to me." Kagome spoke to the young girl with determination.

She had a purpose to speaking to Rin. And she'd reveal it to the young girl soon.

"You believe lord Sesshomaru is just busy? Do you think he might still come back?" Rin asked sadly with her head bowed in defeat and sadness.

"I know he will! He'd never leave you behind. Jaken maybe? But not you!" Kagome said standing raising the girl to her feet and looking into her eyes filling them with determination as well.

"Well ok than. I guess Your right." Rin smiled happily and hugged her new friend and teacher.

I'll prove to my lord that I am still a loyal and trust worthy vasal. And than maybe I can follow him again..lord Sesshomaru I miss you...
