Dear Husband,

It's been two years. Two long years. I miss you. Kaylee and Simon are expecting again. I'm sorry, baby, I've never been very good at these things. Jana is good. Beautiful baby. You'd love her. She's a little ray of sunshine on board. She loves the stars. Always seems to get quiet on the bridge..

I know in my letter last year I didn't talk about Jayne and our relationship. I didn't know how. Don't really know how now either. He takes good care of me, bao bei. Gave me a beautiful daughter. I was never trying to replace you. You know that no one in the 'verse could do that. But he loves me, more than I thought he could. You'd be surprised how sweet and gentle he is.

I love you, Wash. He knows it. Doesn't try to change that fact. But he fixed me, gave me a reason to come back to Serenity alive. For a long time, I didn't want to live without you. Took Jayne getting shot for me to realize what I was doing to the rest of the crew. He jumped in front of that bullet. Was meant for me.

Kinda happened randomly, Jayne and me. But you don't want details. Just know that he makes me happy. And he takes care of me.

I love you, Wash. Always have. Always will.

Love your wife,

Zoë

P.S. Jana seems to have taken a liking to your dinosaurs. I hope you don't mind. She seems to like to suck on the tails.

Zoë folded the letter and put it in the envelope. Jayne put his hand on her shoulder and she looked up at him.

"River says we landed." She nodded at him and stood up, arms going around his waist. He placed a gentle kiss on the crown of her head before the soft mewling cries of her daughter reached her ears. Zoë broke away from Jayne and picked up Jana.

"Shh. We're going to visit Uncle Wash today, bao bei." She bounced the two-month old on her hip. She looked over to Jayne. "Ready, angel?"

"Always." He kissed Zoë's cheek and Jana's head. They made their way through the ship and out into Haven. The family made their way to honor their fallen loved ones.
