Questioning Danny & Gabby

"Okay," Danny rubbed his hands together and leaned slightly forward toward the phone Grace had set up on the coffee table. "Are we ready?"

"All set." Grace sat up straighter. "First question, if you weren't working in your current job what would you be doing instead?"

"I'd be an Egyptologist specializing in either language or art," Gabby offered with a grin. "I love my job, so I wouldn't stray too far from archeology, and Egyptian artifacts have always been a favorite area for me."

"I remember losing you in the Egyptian section of the Met when we were in New York," Danny said with a smile. "That Temple of Dendur thing reminded me of the Mummy's curse." He pretended to shudder.

Gabby chuckled. "Says the man who chases the most horrible criminals on a daily basis."

"Living criminals. Well, sometimes dead by the time they encounter us, but not the kind that haunt you from a sarcophagus."

"Danno…" Grace laughed. "What would you do if you weren't the best detective ever?"

"Thank you." Danny beamed and leaned over to kiss his daughter's cheek. "I can't imagine being anything else. I've only ever wanted to be a cop. I guess if I had to choose I'd be a firefighter."

"Aww, like grandpa."

"Like your grandpa."

"That's so sweet, I'm gonna tell him when they call." She looked at her notes. "What's the best thing about your job?"

Gabby smiled. "I get to discover worlds of information about civilizations that may not have their stories told. And I learn so much with every new project."

"See, that's just so cool. That's why I love coming to visit you at the museum." She looked at Danny.

Her father raised a hand. "My turn? Because I have to start with I get to keep the island as safe as possible for you and everyone who lives here. And put away a good amount of scum who shouldn't be on the streets. I work with incredible people and…" his expression turned playful. "Your Uncle Steve hasn't driven me to the looney bin in eleven years so every day is testament to my ability to adapt and overcome as he loves to say."

Grace chuckled. "Danno, you know Uncle Steve's gonna see this."

"Exactly why I said it," Danny smirked. "I only hope DJ or Angie join the task force some day so I can see him go completely gray."

She rolled her eyes and patted his shoulder. "Next question. What's your favorite thing to do for fun?"

"Spend time with you," he replied and wrapped an arm around Gabby. "And you. And our friends and my beautiful godchildren."

"Same," Gabby smiled. "I love when we do a family dinner and we all cook, and when everyone gets together at Steve and Catherine's for a beach day or barbeque."

"What's one thing you want me to know?" Grace asked.

"Danno loves you. More than my life," he answered without hesitation. "You will always be my number one priority, forever and nothing will ever change that." He kissed her temple.

"And I want you to know I'm so happy we have a great relationship," Gabby told her. "That we have fun and do things even without your dad. And that I'm always here for you, too. No matter what. I love you."

"Ohh, and now I'm teary," Grace sniffed and hugged her. "Love you, Gabby. And I need to ask the next question before I ugly cry. What's a favorite childhood memory?"

"I have one," Gabby said. "Going to the Museum of Natural History on my freshman class trip. My dad was a chaperone and I literally fell in love with archeology right there and then. He encouraged my excitement and curiosity and bought me a VHS tape of a dig in the gift shop. That weekend we watched it with my mom and I was in my glory."

"Your parents are so sweet," Grace smiled. "And it turned out you discovered your career that day. I love it."

"Mine is Christmas Eves at Nonna's and Nonno's. I don't even have a specific one," Danny said. "I loved them all. The whole family slept there, the food, the fun, sitting around in pajamas after midnight mass and opening presents." His eyes lit at the memory. "One year your grandparents got me a bike I'd begged all year for. I was about nine. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I rode it most of Christmas day, even though it was about twenty five degrees out." His smile triggered one from his daughter. "Good times."

Grace squeezed his hand. "If you could change one thing about your life, past or present, what would it be?"

"Nothing," Gabby answered. "I'm very happy and grateful with everything I have." She smiled at them both.

"I know people will think I'm gonna say I'd still be in Jersey, but…" Danny paused and shook his head. "If we didn't move here, I wouldn't be on the task force. I wouldn't have met Gabby. We wouldn't know your Uncle Steve and Auntie Cath and our whole family here on the island. So … I don't think I'd change anything. Believe it or not, I wouldn't change a thing."

"You know who you remind me of when you say things like that?" Grace asked with a sparkle in her eyes.

Danny put his hand up in the universal sign for stop. "Don't say it."

"I'm just sayin'." Grace said with a playful shrug. "That sounds exactly like what Uncle Steve always says."

"Then I want it stricken from the record," Danny insisted. "Erase the tape."

"What tape?" Gabby chuckled. "It's not the 90's anymore."

Danny grabbed his chest. "Right to the heart. You sure know how to hurt a guy."

"It's on the cloud now," Grace said as she reached for her phone. "It'll live on forever."

"Ok, so maybe being compared to your Uncle Steve isn't the worst thing in the world." Danny winked at her. "I can say that now that you've stopped taping … I'm sorry … recording."

Grace turned her phone towards him. "Who said I stopped recording?"

Danny dropped his chin to his chest. "Ok. What's it gonna cost me to guarantee Uncle Steve never sees this?"
