I woke up to not only my alarm clock blaring, but to Ezra jumping on my bed. "You piece of shit get off." I groaned and pulled his legs out from under him. I felt him fall off the side of my bed with a loud thump. Groggily getting out from under my covers, I opened my eyes and looked to the floor and saw him sprawled out pretending he was dead, tongue sticking out. "Okay loser I'm up, so get out." He got up and left without a word, flipping me off before he closed your door. I walked towards my closet to get dressed for the day. Looking at the clothes I had, I opted for a long sleeve band tee shirt and some ripped jeans that fit me nicely. Once I had put my clothes on, I opened the top drawer of my dresser and pulled out some warm, thick socks to wear under my black docs. After I was dressed, I made my way to the shared bathroom so I could finish getting ready. After brushing my hair and doing my usual dark red smokey eyeshadow with bat-winged eyeliner, I moved on to doing the rest of my face. Finishing off with some dark red lipstick, I left the bathroom and went downstairs to go to school. I walked out of the front door and lightly smacked Ezra in the back of the head to signal that I was ready to go. "You know, you really should stop abusing me like that. It's unbecoming of a young member of society such as yourself." I heard him say in a girlish voice, undoubtedly mocking what our mother would say to me. "Just get in the car and let's go," I say as I got into the passenger seat.
The drive to school went as normal, blasting our favorite bands with the windows rolled down and I laughing as your brother said something incredibly stupid. Despite how the two of us acted toward each other sometimes, I had a good relationship with Ezra. He looked out for me and vice versa. I truly thought of him as not only my best friend but my partner in crime. About 15 minutes later, I arrived at Hawkins High School. Walking to my locker with my bookbag, I passed Nancy and Barb with a wave, overhearing Nancy tell Barb something about Steve. I looked for Jonathan once you reached your locker, as I did every morning, but he was nowhere to be seen. 'Weird. He's normally here waiting for Ezra and I.' I thought. Closing my locker, I walked to Ezra's locker to see if Jonathan was with him this morning. I turned the corner to see my brother at his locker alone. "Has Jonathan been around? I need to return his chemistry book that I borrowed." Ezra shook his head. "No, I haven't seen him. Maybe he's just running late?" Just as he finished speaking, the bell indicating that class was about to start, rang. We both sighed and headed to class, bumping into one of Steve's friends, Carol, on the way. "Watch where you're going freak." she sneered as she glared at me and kept walking. "What a bitch." I and Ezra said at the same time. Laughing, I looked at each other and went our separate ways to class.
School dragged on, and finally, it was time to leave. As the final bell rang, I got up and walked right out of the classroom, straight to my locker, getting what I needed, and exited the building to wait by my brother's car. I jumped onto the trunk and pulled out the current book I was reading to try and occupy my mind while I wait. I tried so hard to concentrate but I just couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Letting out a frustrated groan and slamming my book closed, I ended up startling some nearby students with how loud it ended up being. I looked around and spotted Ezra finally walking out of the school. "Can we drive by Jonathan's before going home? I have a bad feeling something happened," I asked as he got closer to the car. "Yeah. Get in and we'll go." I hopped off the trunk and quickly got into the car as Ezra started the car. The both of us peeled out of the parking lot and drove to the Byers' residence to check if everything was okay.
On the drive there, I began to get more and more anxious by the minute. "Hey, don't worry. I'm sure everything is okay. Maybe he just caught a cold and is sick in bed." Ezra told me and put a hand on my shoulder to try and reassure me. He had hardly stopped the car before I hopped out and ran up to the front door and knocked hard on the wood to see if anyone was home. Not a minute later, Joyce had answered the front door. "Hi Ms. Byers, we're sorry to bother you but we were wondering if Jonathan was okay. He wasn't at school today." I heard Ezra ask from behind me. "Come inside kids. I'll explain everything." We walked inside their home and sat down on the couch, immediately taking note of all the pictures of Will littering the coffee table. "Will's missing. He didn't come home last night, and we don't know where he could've gone or what happened to him." I looked up and immediately got up to hug the woman. "We'll help look for him. Everything's gonna be okay." I rubbed her back in a soothing manner and she started to lightly cry into my shoulder. She sniffs and I release her so she can continue working on what I assume is going to end up as missing posters. "Is there going to be a search party?" I softly ask her. She nods, "Yeah. Sheriff Hopper is organizing one tonight." Looking at Ezra, I tell him, "Would you be comfortable with driving me to where the search is gonna be? I wanna help look for him." Joyce looks at me and I can see mama bear mode activates. "No. It's a school night. I'm sure your mother wouldn't approve of the two of you going out and helping the search." I look down and an idea pops into your brain. "Can I stay here and help you with whatever you need instead? Mom wouldn't mind and I'd be safe here if you're worried about my safety." Ezra clears his throat, "I think you mean we. I wanna do everything that I can as well." The two of us look towards Joyce expectantly.
