You're My World

"Roy!" Riza Hawkeye woke from her nightmare panting and screaming. She pulled her knees to her head and breathed deeply as she tried to dispel the images from her mind. She kept seeing Roy's slumped over form, blood pooling around him. She remembered screaming at him, demanding he talk to her. She remembered burying her face in his shoulder, crying as she willed him to get up. Black Hayate jumped up on her bed and nudged his head under her hands. She looked up at him and smiled. As she stroked his head, she realized she wouldn't get anymore sleep that night without seeing the object of her nightmares…and dreams.

Riza walked slowly down the hallway in the infirmary, heading purposefully towards Roy's room. Just as she was reaching for the door handle, she paused. What did she think she could accomplish by coming here? She narrowed her eyes in determination. She couldn't start questioning herself, not now, not ever.

She turned the door handle and entered the room. Roy was fast asleep, his limbs thrown carelessly across his chest. She smiled, then winced as her gaze drifted to his healing wounds. She stretched out her hand to touch the smooth side of his face. The touch seemed to pull him from the depths of his sleep. He blinked sleepily at his nighttime visitor. She pulled back her hand quickly and blushed. He yawned and sat up slightly.

"Something wrong?" He inquired quietly. She shook her head and sat down. He looked at her; she was fidgeting and looked almost nervous. He cocked his head to the side and gave her a questioning glance. She saw this and took a deep breath, calming herself.

"I dreamt of you." Roy looked slightly taken aback at this statement, but motioned for her to continue.

"I mean…I dreamt of that day…"She trailed off and looked away. His expression softened, yet remained vaguely puzzled. "I just want to say…I'm sorry. I'm sorry I wasn't fast enough…wasn't skilled enough…I should have been there to protect you…I'm sorry…" She bowed her head, tears sliding down her face.

He extended his hand and drew her face up to meet his. "Nothing's perfect. The world isn't perfect. But it's there for us, trying the best it can. That's what makes it so damn beautiful." She smiled through her tears and Roy leaned forward to lay a soft, hesitant kiss on her lips. Her eyes widened in astonishment, then moved over to sit on his bed. Her hand wavered tentatively over the scarred side of his face. She lightly traced around the black eye patch. He smiled at her and she leaned forward to kiss his cheek just under the eye patch, then decided to go the extra mile and kiss him intensely as she had always longed to do. He responded with equal fervor, placing his right hand on her hip. As she pulled back, she whispered against his lips, "You're my world, Roy Mustang." He smiled back at her and responded, "And you're mine." She then crawled into bed with him, snuggling into his side. They stayed that way the whole night through; two halves of a whole.

(A/N: This is my first RoyxRiza story ever, so be gentle. Tell me how I did. I was hesitant to write this, as I hate to write stuff without having a very clear and accurate understanding of the characters, and I'm not sure I've seen enough of Riza to see the whole picture. And I couldn't help myself from writing something with that quote from ep 51 in it. It's such a beautiful scene (although I'm partial to the part where she shoves apple in his mouth). But anyway, I've rambled enough. Please tell me how I can improve this. Thanks!)
