Finally updated with a BRAND NEW CHAPTER! Now I'll be honest, I don't remember EVERYTHING I was planning on doing-actually-I don't think I had a real plan, I was just seeing how it was gonna go-With some key points I wanted to hit.

Also at the time-I had nieces and nephews that I would babysit. Both my sisters would tell me basically a lot of what I was writing before, like the tips of how to take care of kits, to the dos and don'ts.

Buuuuut… - I moved a few years ago-and I haven't babysat-nor been around babies, or mother's who know things most people wouldn't know-*gasps for breath* Point is… - it's been time since I've been around a baby.

But also, I want to add, I did change things up a BIT. not much-I updated all the chapters, and you don't have to re-read everything because I will recap for you since it's been about 6 or 7 years.

Nick and Judy were pretending to be a couple, so Lynn could stay with Nick, and not go straight to an orphanage. Nick learns how to be a good 'dad' and gets tips, but soon, they realize that it would be easier if they get married, and use the money to get a bigger place.

The only problem; during the public apology, someone was watching, and wasn't happy that Wilde was alive.

The changes that were made; Nick's dad was originally dead, but now he's… well let's just say we will be meeting him in time… John is not an orphan, as originally stated. Not much was revealed about his past or who he is as of YET. Same thing as what is really going on.

The title is from One Direction corny I know, but it's perfect. But other songs that help me with the feel was My Girl cover by Reneé Dominique I love how slow and calm it is, and Waka Waka by Shakira, lol it randomly came on as I was writing and thought it fit the mood I was looking for (the English lyrics are spot on actually). You know-I'm actually just going to add the songs I feel at the moment of writing each section, it's for myself, it really helps me know what I'm going for. And I'm kinda surprised I never mentioned this before, but if you guys want to know the feel of what I go for, for the WHOLE story; it's the songs below.

Sleeping at Last is the real inspiration for this whole story, mainly Daughter; and Life has its own chapter that I've been wanting to write for so long. But for now:

Truly, Madly, Deeply

It was 2:13 am and a caracal walked down a dark alleyway. He was looking for a building, but he was in a more rundown part of a neighborhood. He was trying his best not to be noticed, but this area seemed to have a lot more nocturnal mammals up and about. The cat tried his best not to give eye contact; he needed to make this a quick in and out. Taking out his phone, he checked his location. He was close.

When he got to the building, he noticed the apartments were separated. You didn't have to go through a conjoined entrance to get into your own place; your entryway was outside, in their own unique way. Rather than be stairs or ladders. Luckily for him, his target's living counters was under the apartment itself. Groaning at how much fun this would be, the rich golden fur mammal, pulled the collar of his black trench coat up more so it would help cover his face. His long feather like ears was hidden under his hat; that way-if seen-others would mistake him as a cougar. His ears were crucial to his identity.

He made sure so one was around before he made his way to the entry. It was a deep concrete stairway leading to the ground, it was so old and worn down, the walls/stairs were chipped. He was careful not to step on the 'rocks', and gravel size chunks. He crept slowly, so that way no one could hear him. Once he got to the door, he placed his ear to it. Quiet. Good. That meant his target was asleep.

He tried his luck to open the doorknob, locked. Shocker. But he had other methods of opening locks. He extended his claw, and dug it in deeply, before hearing the right click. He was in. Slowly he walked through the door, and carefully closed it without making a sound. His pale green eyes wandered around the room, trying to find any life in the place. His ears listened closely too. The entire place was dark. Slowly he made his way to what seemed like the bedroom. Taking small steps, he got to the door, it was already open. He slowly peeked through, and he found it was empty. Puzzled, he then searched other areas and still came out with nothing. No one was in here besides the cat himself.

"Fuck!" he hissed. His boss wasn't going to be happy, and his ass was on the line. 'They aren't here.' he texted.

'What do you mean?!' a response came back 'They have to be! I looked it up. That's where he lives! Find him!'

'He's not. Here.'

'Fuck. Well, I'm not taking the hit for this one. This was YOUR job!'

'I am NOT coming back here! This place is flooded with nocturnals! Not to mention our target is a cop for crying out loud!' the caracal bared his fangs while waiting for a response back.

'You can't come back empty pawed. Just.' there was a moment he waited for the rest to come through. 'Get some kind of intel. Something we can use in the future, maybe that will make the boss happy.' the cat rolled his eyes, and put his phone back in his pocket. He then looked around the place. It wasn't messy per say, but it was far from clean. The ceiling was just a tangled mess of pipes. It helped give the room a clammy cold feel. There was one pipe that was leaking-you could see he tried to fix it, but a bucket was underneath to catch extra water. The other pipes had different things hanging off of them; such as clothes or other random things.

The cat jumped as he felt something run over his paws. He looked down and saw a cockroach. His face scrunched up in disgust. "Filthy fox." He glared. The faster he found what he needed, the faster he could get out of there. After a while of digging around, he found it. "Got you." He grinned, as he snatched what he was looking for, and headed out of there.

Light 1:20

"Nick! Will you leave that poor kit alone! You've been talking nonstop since her eyes opened last night!" Judy giggled as she got ready for work.

"I know! I know-it's just… I can't!" He grinned proudly. His niece was snuggled right up in his arms as he bobbed up and down gently. Lynn was squinting her blue eyes, looking all around, taking everything in. She only made sweet little grunts, chirps, or even small smacking sounds. It was as if she was trying to find what to focus on but couldn't. "Her ears should be opening soon! I want her to recognize my voice, and know how special she is…" He smiled looking down at her.

"Well still, give the poor girl some rest." She smiled, she was also happy to see Lynn view the word for the first time. It meant she was healthy and they were taking care of her right. After everything she put them through, she reminded them why it was worth it. "Ok, I'm headed to work, you gonna be ok by yourself all day without me?" Nick nodded. "Ok, call me if you need anything ok?"

"I will-make sure your phone isn't on airplane mode this time!"

"I will!" she said as she left for the door. Bogo gave Nick maternity leave, so he could take care of his kit until they were settled enough to come back for work. Nick looked at Lynn, she was getting sleepy. He then gave her one of his fingers, and she grabbed it tightly as they both drifted off to sleep.

No Matter Where You Are

A lot has happened to the new family. Nick and Judy got married, the whole ZPD was invited. Nick's groomsmen were Finnick, Clawhauser, and Flash. Judy's were friends back from her hometown. Luckily this wedding was on the smaller side-for rabbits that is. Nick only had Lynn and some extra friends from his side, but Judy had guests well over 400. It was easy to see who came from the bride or groom.

Judy's parents were quick to warm up to Nick; especially when they saw how caring he was for Lynn and Judy. Bonnie would take over to watch her new granddaughter as the newlyweds danced or greeted others. And as a wedding present-but more as a thank you-The Hopps bought them a brand new house in the suburbs of the City.

"It's the least we could do!" They said as they handed them the keys, "If it wasn't for Nick's mishap, we would have never found that deadly fungus in our crops." Nick and Judy didn't know what to say, "We made sure to add extra rooms in case you wanted to explain your family." Now they really didn't know what to say.

They didn't have the typical honeymoon either; all they wanted to do was get moved in as quickly as possible, and prove how stable they could be as parents. And then finally they could relax. They also did not… tie the… knot. Even tho they did care for each other, their relationship was still completely new and didn't feel right going this fast and hitting all the stops. It was a mutual decision without having to say anything.

The night after the wedding, Nick told Judy to stay in the car as he placed Lynn's carrier inside the new house. Once he came back, she rolled her eyes, knowing what he was doing.

"You don't have to do that." She smirked.

"No, no. We are official now." He said opening her door, and letting her slide in his arms as he picked her up bridal style, and walked to the house. "Mrs. Wilde." he gestured as he sat her down on the floor, and went to take a look around the new home. They were surprised that it came furnished as well. "Wow… Your parents really went all out huh…" He saw the stairs leading up to the 2nd half of the house. It was huge. "This beats both of our places combined…"

When they came to their bedroom; their bed looked so good. It was king size for a fox. He had more room than what to do with. Compared to his dresser back in his place, or Judy's small rickety bed. Judy was just loving that she didn't have to sleep at a desk anymore.

Once they put Lynn down, they quickly got ready for bed. They didn't care how awkward it was to sleep in the same bed; there was enough room for them to be on their own side, but also they were just so tired. Mainly their time was wedding planning or taking care of Lynn. Tomorrow they were gonna pack their apartments; Judy's would be the easiest, Nick's on the other paw… But that way, when Judy went back to work, Nick could unpack everything in the house.

"Nick…" Judy groaned in bed.

"Hummmm…" He breathed.

"Can you paw me my phone please?" They were both extremely tired, neither one wanted to move. Judy's phone was left on Nick's side of the end table, and it was buzzing alive with texts; she wanted to turn it off.

"MMMMmmmmmm…." the fox didn't budge.

"Pllllllease…." Judy whined. But it didn't work. She decided to just leave it instead. Just then they heard a kit cry, alerting both mammals. Their ears went up, and their eyes both snapped open.

"I GOT IT!" They both said while throwing the blankets off of themselves, and rushing to see what Lynn needed.

Life couldn't be better for the Wildes…

Truly, Madly, Deeply

6 Months Later

"There's my two beautiful ladies" Nick smiled, as he walked into the dining room. Lynn was in her high chair, next to Judy by the table. She was currently patting the tray with her paws, waiting for the bunny to give her another spoonful of mashed acorns, and blackberries. Nick went behind the kit as he was putting his tie on, and kissed her on the forehead; which made her squeal with excitement.

"Moring to you too…" Judy giggled as she watched her favorite fox go into the kitchen. He came back with a bowl filled with plump grubs. They were already dead, and they were mixed in with milk and other flavorings. When he sat down, Judy couldn't help but make a face that showed how gross she thought he was.

"Want a bite?" Nick teased.

"Your disgusting." she said, as she bit into her own cereal made out of pellets. Nick shared his own face filled with a grimace. "You're excited for your day with Wolfang in the Nocturnal District?" She asked while giving Lynn another spoonful. Nick chewed slowly; he was trying to form his thoughts into words.

"I… Guess…" He said slowly.

"What's wrong?" She asked worriedly.

"Nothing… It's just… I've never been there before…" He took another bite.

"But are you a nocturnal?" She asked disbelieving him.

"My mom…" The fox shrugged tiredly, "I don't know-I always wanted to go. But whenever I would bring up that I would like to go, she would get really quiet, and look so sad… So I stopped asking her. Even now… I just didn't bother to go there… I just keep seeing how sad she looked-" He stopped talking when he saw Judy's big eyes just stare at him with concern. "Carrots, I'll be fine." He put on his cool guy act, leaning in his chair a bit. "Really, I'm actually excited to go."

"Maybe we can request someone else to go with Wolfang."

"Judy." Whenever he said her real name, you knew he was serious. "Really, it's fine. Besides, there aren't that many on the ZPD that can see in the dark as well as yours truly." He then took another bite "Besides," he said with a mouthful "If you came with me, I would have to babysit you the whole time because you wouldn't be able to see anything past your nose-OW!" he cried as he gave him a hard kick under the table. Lynn laughed at her uncle.

"Speaking of babysitting." Judy took her own mouthful, "Your gonna wake him up, or should I?"

"No, I will." He quickly got up and finished with his breakfast. He put the bowl in the sink and then jogged upstairs. He got to one of the doors, and knocked, only hearing the sound of groans from the other side. "Wakie wakie!" He sang.

"Fuck off…"

"Oh come on… That's not very appropriate language do you think…"

"What time is it."

"Time for you to get your butt out of bed." Nick laughed, he knew he was evil, but he really loved to see his friend in misery. He probably had a hangover or-"Wait a minute…" he whispered to himself as he pressed his ear next to the door, he could hear an extra voice. A female voice. "ZPD. Open up." he knocked on the door and put his cop voice on. The muffled voices got louder until the door opened reviling an arctic fox.

She was wearing Finnick's clothes, which were too small for her, and hugged on her perfectly. She grimaced as she walked past him, heading downstairs, avoiding all eye contact. Judy looked her way in full confusion, as the vixen walked out the front doors. Finnick walked out of his bedroom door in a robe, with Nick looking down at him with disapproval.

"What! You saw her! I couldn't say no!-" He was cut off by Nick's paw.

"I don't care what you do, just as long as it doesn't interfere with Lynn. I mean what if she saw that!"

"You became a real buzz kill ever since you became a new daddy."

"Don't push it." He pointed his finger at the smaller fox, as he headed downstairs. "I'm going to work. So should you." They let Finnic stay in one of the extra rooms they had since a bit ago, someone stole his van/home. He didn't have to pay rent, and all he had to do was watch Lynn while the other two grown ups were at work.

"Uhhhhh… What was that all about?" Judy said.

"Don't ask." Nick walked ever to Lynn and took her out of her highchair, and pawed her to uncle Finnick. "I'll see my two kits when I get home!" He said extra cheerful, as he kissed Lynn on the cheek, and then Finnick. At that moment, he yelled as he felt a set of teeth on his nose. Lynn laughed just as hard as she did earlier.

Build It Better

It was about an hour and 25 minute drive to get to the Nocturnal District. It definitely a bit out of the way to get to. Bogo asked them to talk to an eyewitness to some unusual activity he suspects is going on. He was part of the police department in that area and insisted to get more input on the situation. The two mammals actually were having a really good time on their way there. This was their first time being partnered up, but they got along as if they knew each other for years.

Nick could tell they were getting close, there was a deep tunnel leading underground. Yellow lights lit up the inside; he was nervous but mainly excited. He couldn't help but get antsy, his body tingled with anticipation, as his stomach felt fluttery. He acted as if nothing changed with him, as he still joked and talked with the gray wolf, but he was worried that he could smell his new demeanor. Within a few moments, they entered. To say the fox was amazed was an understatement. His mouth dropped at the beauty.

Once they got out of the car, Nick quickly took his sunglasses off. He didn't need them anymore for his sensitive eyes. Everything looked as if it was in a fairyland; there was no sunlight at all, all the lights were completely natural. Tall trees grow everywhere, including different types of fungus and other plants that glowed beautiful neon blues, purples, oranges, and greens. Even the water glowed a bright cyan blue whenever it moved; he saw some lemurs giggling as they played at the water, and watched the glowing plankton react to their touch. Fireflies shimmered around them, instead of butterflies there were moths and off to the distance, he saw an ad, instructing how to get to the caves with the glow worms.

"Amazed?" Wolfang asked, amused.

"Yea… That's a bit of an understatement…" Nick spoke softly. 'Why wouldn't she want to come here…' he thought of his mother. He definitely would want to bring Lynn and Judy here sometime soon. "I feel like a kit in an amusement park."

"Makes you want to chase all the critters don't it?" the wolf chuckled. "Come on, we can walk to the department when questioning Cory Loftis." Nick couldn't help but grin when he heard they were going to walk the rest of the way. You would think that a district that was so focused on night time, would mean dead silence, and pure darkness; but this was the opposite. This was the most lively, mythical liked place you could imagine. Nick looked up and was amazed at how active the sky was. Bats flying, sugar gliders/flying squirrels soaring, to lemurs hopping from one tree to the next. To the red fox's disappointment, they got to their destination quicker than he wanted.

The police station was actually a cave. You could see where they added doors to the natural opening. Once in, they saw a fossa at the secretary desk; who informed Cory that his guest arrived.

"It's easy to get lost in this place, so just wait here until Mr. Loftis gets here." The fossa said the other two mammals nodded their head until they looked off to the right. Loud flapping sounds were heard coming their way. They then saw a Northern Long Eared bat; he was small and very fuzzy, with giant orange eyes, and of course long ears, with a flat nose.

"Hey HEY! Nice of you'es to come by!" he said with a thick accent. "-Wolfang! Is that you?!" he fluttered face to face with the Gray wolf.

"What? And miss this opportunity to see a good friend of mine?" he smiled with a toothy grin. "Wilde! I like you to meet Cory Loftis!"

"You two seem close." Nick grinned friendly.

"Oh, yea! Me and 'Fang here goes way back!" the bat flew down to Nick's face. "Honored to meet ya by the way!" Cory stuck one of his feet out as a paw shake, Nick took a finger out and let the smaller mammal grab it, and gently bobbed it up and down.

"Honestly, it's an honor to be here…" Nick looked around, to help show what he meant. "I might have to request for a transfer."

"Oh, that would be amazing! We could use a mammal like you'es around here! Especially how rare foxes have been lately."

"Wait-Even here?" Nick was shocked.

"Oh, yea! Especially here! In fact, that's kinda why I wanted to talk to the ZPD so badly… I think someth'ns up-but…" He looked away, feeling ashamed saying it out loud. "Because the subject is about foxes, they're normally are dismissed, or blind eyed'ed." Nick knew all well what he meant. Foxes were "shifty" and "dishonest". Whenever a report comes up on a missing fox, most just ignore it, 'They are just runaways' or 'they shouldn't have stuck their noses in places they don't belong' saying it's their own fault or mess. It made him sick. He remembered a time when he was trying to get a loan from the bank to start his own business, but no one would loan him.

"Look… It's just too much risk in loaning to a-" the hippo sighed. "To mammals without credit."

"Well see th-ugh." Nick scoffed in frustration. "I can't get credit. If you won't loan to me."

"Right! Absolutely! And we WILL be HAPPY to loan to you when you DO have the credit!" You could tell she was trying to be as polite as possible, but couldn't help but look upset. She was the nicest one out of all the other banks, but it was all the same. No one trusted him, because he was a fox.

He knew from experience that the only way to survive in the city was to out smart others. If it was the only way to get money, or food, and make others look like the idiots that they are. Then. so be it.

"There's something I want you'es to see." The bat brought Nick out of his thoughts. "Follow me's." The two officers follow him into his office. "A red fox came in here's last night. He wanted to report on some sketchy drug entail. I don't know." He fluttered to his desk and landed there. "But then randomly, one of the stalagmites broke spontaneously outside, so I went to check out what happened. I left him for not even two minutes. I told him to come back later for more details, so I could help clean the mess up. But when I came back on my computer-ehhhhh…" He sighed. "It asked me to reopen something I just closed, and curiosity got the better of me…" He paused, not knowing how to word it. "I saw you'es Wilde…"

"Me?"

"Yea, you'se file was pulled up-the only thing I could think of was…"

"The fox went on your computer while you were out," Wolfang spoke up. The bat nodded slowly. "Did you get his name?"

"Yea, yea-he goes by the name Robert Fitzooth." at this point he walked over to his computer and typed in a few things.

"Did he look up anyone else?" the large canine asked, Cory, shook his head no.

"Only Wilde."

"What did he look like?" Nick asked.

"Actually, he looked a lot like you'es." This made the fox look at him with a lazy look.

"Not all foxes look the same." He half joked.

"No! No! Honest! He did! Just-a lot more scrawny, and lanky-Much older and much taller. His fur was disheveled, he looked like he hasn't eat'en in months. Honestly, he looked like he needed some sleeps too'es." This made Nick curious. "Light brown eyes-instead of you're cream color, it was more white. Green shirt, with dark brown slacks." The bat stopped typing and turned the monitor to the others, showing a mug picture of Robert. "Not much is known about him tho'es. I just figured you wanted to have an eye out just in case something showes ups." Not much else needed to be said, so the three chatted for a bit and finished any other questions. Cory then leads them to the door. "Again, thank you'es so much for coming all this ways." Cory said fluttering above them

"No thank you for the intake," Nick said.

"We really need to catch up sometime old friend!" Wolfang exclaimed.

"Ya! Ya! We do'es! And Wilde!" If you ever needes a transfer! Give us a call eh?"

"I will surely look into it!" Nick smiled. They said their goodbyes and left.

"Ehhh, I don't really feel like heading back so soon, do you, Wilde?" Wolfang grinned devilishly at the fox. Nick shook his head and liked where this was going. "Want to stop and get lunch somewhere, and sightseeing before the long ride back?"

"I couldn't agree more." Nick grinned as they started walking. Little did they know, someone was watching from a distance.

Cory Loftis is one of the main production/character designers in Zootopia; I didn't have a name for the deleted character, the bat, so I used his name.

I feel bad because this chapter feels rushed and shorter than what I wanted. But I didn't want to focus on the wedding-mainly because there isn't anything important that was to happen there, and there are already so many other wedding fics out there. This chapter is mainly to help set up what is to come, and an update of what was going on in their lives. I wanted to show that they had a break of bad things for a while lol.

But I put in a lot of hints in this chapter to look out for; I really DO want to finish this story, so we are gonna get to more action in the future. Like I said-this was to help set up what is to come-Why are there not that many red foxes? What's happening to them? Who was that other fox, why was he looking up Nick, and what happened to John?
