Alice looks at me before saying her next words that stab me in the heart. "Sophie, Edward thinks that you and Bella are both dead. He's on his way to Volterra to kill himself."

Terror engulfs me. Edward thinks that me and Bella are dead. I can't imagine what he's going through. The last time that I talked to him, I told him I needed time to think. I yelled at him the last time I saw him. He's probably being racked with guilt. I try to dial Edward's phone number but nothing happens. He probably crushed the phone when Rosalie called him. I am furious with Rosalie. She could have at least called Alice to make sure everything was ok before calling Edward. Me and her were going to have a chat later.
Alice darted into the house. I was right behind her.
"Jacob. Who was on the phone?" I hear Bella ask him. I entered the room to see Jacob backing away from Bella. Jacob was trembling with anger.
"What happened?" Alice looked between Bella and Jacob.
"The phone started ringing. Jacob answered it and told whoever it was that Charlie wasn't here. Jacob who was on the phone?"
Alice spoke up at that moment. "It was Edward on the phone Bella." All the color drained from her face. She kept her eyes solely on Jacob.
"Why didn't you let me talk to him?" Her voice was starting to get higher.
"He didn't ask for you Bella." Paul came out of nowhere and started to pull Jacob away from us. It was in that moment that I was glad Paul was here. I didn't want Bella to get hurt in case Jacob phased in front of her.
I turned to Bella. "Bella. What exactly did Jacob say to him?"
"Jacob answered the phone and told him that Charlie wasn't here. He told him that he was helping to arrange two funerals." It was like a punch to the gut. No.
I started to tune everything out at that point. Edward thought I was dead. I walked into another room lost in my own thoughts. I kept going over everything in my head when my phone started ringing. I instantly answered it, not bothering to look at the caller id.
"Hello?" Silence. I didn't hear anything on the other line. "Hello?" Still no answer. I almost hung up my phone when the voice finally answered me.
"Sophie?" I couldn't help but to gasp as soon as I heard his voice.
"Alex?"
"Your alive?"
"Yes. I'm ok." The line goes silent again. In the background I hear the sound of wind. "Alex, where are you." The line then goes dead. I look at my phone in shock, he hung up on me.
"I'm right behind you." My head snaps up and I turn around to see Alex standing right behind me. I look at him for the first time in three days.
Alex's eyes are golden but they look empty. His blonde hair is in disarray. His clothes look perfect but he looks like a hollow shell inside them. He looks miserable, and I know that I'm the cause of it.
Without thinking I walk towards him and he engulfs me into a hug. I bury my head into his chest while he smells my hair. I feel him start to relax. "I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you."
Alex pulls away. "Do you have any idea how worried I've been. You said you would be at the house once we got back from hunting. I tore the house apart when I saw that you were gone. We all went looking for you but we didn't know where you were going. You didn't even leave a note. I thought the worst when I got Rosalie's phone call telling me that you were dead. It felt like my dead heart was being ripped to pieces."
It was at this moment that I wanted to die under a rock. "I'm sorry. How did you get here so fast?"
Alex ran his hand through his hair. "I was already on my way here when Rose called me. I remember you saying that you missed Forks so I thought I would look here. Why did you come here anyway?"
I sigh. "You remember my nightmares that I was having. My nightmare was about Bella. She jumped off of a cliff into the water. I tried to rescue her but Victoria was there. She killed the both of us in my dream. I came to make sure that Bella was ok. I didn't plan on actually jumping off of the cliff."
"Of course. It's always her," mumbled Alex.
"Alex!"
"What? You almost died by trying to save her from a decision that she was making. You are always putting your life at risk for her. You mean the world to me. I just found you, I don't plan on losing you." I don't say anything. I just look at him.
I sigh before turning away from him. "Come on. I need to talk to Alice."
I head into the living room to see Bella putting things in a backpack. She writes something quickly on a notepad.
"Alice? What's going on?" I completely forgot that Jacob and Paul were still in the house.
"There's another one! When did he get here?" The both of them jumped back in surprise. Jacob and Paul were both glaring at Alex. Bella just looked confused.
"Oh joy. There are wolves here too," states Alex. He doesn't seem happy to see them either.
"Alex, behave." I turn to Bella. "I'll explain later," I tell her. "Alice."
Alice sighs and looks over at me. "I'm taking Bella to Volterra. We need to stop Edward from killing himself." I paused before saying something that I know no one will like.
"I'm coming too." Everyone tells me their objections clearly.
"No way!" Paul looks like he's going to explode.
"Neither you or Bella will be going to Italy," objects Jacob.
"No absolutely not! There is no way that you are going anywhere near the Volturi." Alex grabs my hand and pulls me back.
Alice just looks at me. "Sophie I don't think that's a good idea."
"Why not?"
"I don't want to sound mean but there's something off about you. Remember what happened a couple months ago?" The memory of the vase exploding in mid-air comes into my mind. "We don't know why exactly that happened. If we go to Volterra and the Volturi finds out, they wouldn't let you go. They would keep you."
"Alice I understand about your skepticism, but I have to go with you. Edward thinks I'm dead too. What would happen if only Bella goes? He may think that she's not real since I'm not there. Unless you want him to die, I need to go." I look pleadingly at Alice. She just stares at me in thought.
"No. I don't care! I barely managed to escape them fifty years ago. I don't want to take a chance where you are forced to be on their guard."
Alice lets out a sigh. "She has a point Alex."
"No! She's not going."
"Yes I am going Alex. You can't stop me. I need to go to save my brother!" Alex just stares at me. We don't say anything to each other.
"Fine," responds Alex finally. "But if your going then so I am. I am not letting you go there alone."
"Alex you can't..."
"Yes I can. I was able to leave them once. I'll make sure that we come back to Forks." I nodded my head and followed Alice and Bella out of the house.
I grab my bag from my car before heading to Carlisle's car. Alex is walking right behind me. Paul is standing in front of the house as he watches Jacob pleading with Bella not to go.
I hop into the backseat with Alex as Alice sits in the driver's seat. Bella opens the passenger door and climbs in.
"Bella, I'm begging you. Please don't go." Jacob grabbed Bella's arm just as she shuts the car door. Come on Bella. We don't have time for this!
Bella looks at Jacob before sliding her arm out of his grip. "I'm sorry Jacob. Please look after Charlie for me."
Jacob looks devastated. He walks away with Paul trailing behind him.
Alice pauses before putting the car into gear. With that we are racing out of Forks. Heading to Italy to save Edward.
I am sorry that it took a little longer for me to update. I have been major busy with work and traveling for my friends wedding. With covid and everything happening its been crazy. I will have the next chapter posted shortly. I am almost finished with it so hopefully in the next couple of days I will be able to post it. Until then!
