Chapter 14: Speak Now

Damon Salvatore had been a man who had never been scared to take chances but when it came to Bonnie Bennett the thought of her rejection had scared him. He liked her, he enjoyed her presence and knowing that she had spent a long amount of time with his brother had his insecurities beginning to show.

Flashback

"So tell me why you're here looking like a scared cat?" Bree asked leaning against the bar. "Please tell me this has nothing to do with,"

"Bonnie." he gritted out. He had just left the manor because well he couldn't handle the pressure of being so close yet not close enough to whatever they were doing. He had tried to block out the way his brother looked genuinely happy and how easy it seemed between Bonnie and Stefan. But in the end he couldn't and had to get away, he needed a break.

The barmaid rolled her eyes. "Seriously dude you're killing me with this."she says whilst leaning on the bar.

He places his glass against his forehead. "I'm killing you, its driving me crazy. She's all that I think about, I mean all I think about and you know me, I get obsessed."

She gives her friend a patient look. "But this is different right."

He shrugs in response.

"Think about this, you've been in here more then usual in the last week talking about the same girl," she says pausing. "You like her and you're probably destined to be together." she says offering him her hand. "What are you afraid of?"

He leans back and takes her words in. "I'm not–" he begins to say but stops himself.

You're afraid of falling in love with this girl and she not falling in love with you. But if I remember correctly," she says a grin posed on her lips. "You're Damon Salvatore and she's Bonnie Bennett and its been said so many times that the two of you were going to be meant to be," she says a tendril of hair falls in her face. "You know, if you believe in the prophecy and what not." she says grinning. "I'd say you've got just as good of a chance with Bonnie." she deliberately left out his chances against Stefan because in her mind, this wasn't something Stefan had wanted. Now, as for Klaus she had never seen Nik so in love, it was written all over his face. And if Damon was going to go against anyone for the attention of the Immortal witch, she knew it would he and Klaus for all of eternity.

"Let me ask you another question, do you want her?" she asked seriously. "And not just to bend over on the nearest table because girls like Bonnie they don't fall for that shit. That of course doesn't mean she's not up for it, but their has to be more than that." she reminded him. "She's a good girl and all a good girl wants to do is fall in love with someone that'll love them back."

He runs his hands through his hair. "I want her." he says a smile forming on her lips. "I like talking to her, I like joking with her...I like her."

She tosses her hair back. "Good!" she says meaningfully. "If you want this girl, then you need to realize it wont be easy. But if you really like her then it'll be worth it."

He leans forward and kisses her cheek. "Thanks Bree."

End of flashback

He couldn't handle this, he couldn't go through this again with his brother. Bonnie belonged to him plain and simple– so everyone better get used to it because it was in fact a thing. She had belonged to him long before Stefan stepped to help and a hell of a lot longer then her sham of a marriage to Klaus begun. Emily had entrusted the Bennett line to him and Bonnie was the last Bennett therefore she was his and nobody was going to change this. He wouldn't let anyone take this from him, not Casanova Stefan, nor king crazy Klaus himself.

"I'll ask you again brother," he says through gritted teeth. "What did you do with her?"

Stefan furrowed his brows, though he saw the reason behind all the anger his brother was sending in his direction. He always knew what was wrong his brother, because ice blue eyes were transparent. "She showed me her magic." he says leaving out the fact that they had channeled. His brother looked like he was literally hanging on by threads.

His head snaps up. "This has to stop! I mean it Stefan," he says warning his brother that he was not playing this game not now not ever again. "This has to stop before we get into deep into this mess all over again." he says warily.

Stefan licks his lips. "Its too late to stop this– its already happening bonds are forming." Stefan says almost reluctantly. "Bonnie is an amazing girl, she's beautiful, smart and.."

"She's mine" he roars so loud that he's positive that not only had king crazy heard his declaration but the elder as well. "She's mine." he says again this time more controlled. "Emily gave the Bennett line to me." he says pointing to himself. 'And she is the last Bennett." he says meeting eyes with Stefan. "She's mine, she's been mine since 1863."

Stefan crossed his arms in front of his chest. "Maybe in the beginning she may have been your's but she doesn't belong to anyone now." he says simply.

Damon steps closer to his brother and places steady hands on top of his shoulders. "That's where you're wrong she's my soulmate." he says a goofy smile forming on his lips. "We may not be in love now, but we will be someday soon." he says clapping his brother on the shoulder. "And I'm not gonna let you and Klaus stand in the way of something that's been 184 years in the making." he admitted." he says finally letting his brother go.

Soon he swaggered over to the bar. He hated opening himself up, especially to his brother because Stefan would always look at him like he felt pity for him and he didn't need it. He had waited so long for someone who was specifically for him and after talking to Bree and then actually rereading the prophecy in the supernatural library he realized that- that person he had been waiting for had always been Bonnie.

Just as he's posed to put the glass to his lips a gut-wrenching scream echoes throughout the manor and bounces off the walls rendering he and Stefan almost paralyzed with fear.

"Bonnie!" Stefan utters breaking the silence. "We have to," he stops amongst the realization that his brother has already disappeared.

Upstairs Damon is banging on the door that wont seem to open. "Bonnie can you hear me!" he says yells as panic rakes his body.

Frantically he tries the doorknob all the while trying to get the door. He had failed Elena. They had failed Elena and let her die, he wouldn't let anyone hurt Bonnie, not now and not ever.

"Bon, can you hear us? We're gonna get you out." Stefan calls through calm as ever.

He turns his eyes to his little brother and nearly growls again when the door refuses to open. It shouldn't be that hard it was a freaking door and they were vampires with super strength.

"Its stuck. Bonnie what's going on?" he asked turning the doorknob so hard that it breaks in his hands. She calls out again, her voice sounding terrified and he feels like he's once again failed someone. They had failed Bonnie in the past, and let her fall into the clutches of the big bad wolf. He'd do everything in his power to save her, from herself, Klaus and anyone else that came her way.

"Its magic." Stefan says matter of fact. It has to be, because..."

Fed up he used all of his vampire strength and finally came rushing through the door. The only problem, was that he hadn't broken the door. Once he was inside he turned to look at Stefan and that was when the door had closed.

"Damon!" Stefan screams rushing the door and soon pounding on it to no avail. Whatever had let him in, wouldn't allow Stefan in as well.

DS-DS-

There is no time to think about Stefan or how he managed to get through the door, all he think about his Bonnie.

Whirling around the sight he saw nearly made him freeze in place. Bonnie was being held by an invisible force. Her body was flung in the air hanging much like a marionette doll. He could see hand prints that were forming on her flawless skin marring it with red blotches as if she was being burned. The smell of flesh was in the room and he gaged on reflex. Looking up he caught sight of the marks around her neck, that thing, was trying to choke her.

Using all his vampire strength he launched into the air and blindly reach for whatever was holding her. The first time he reached for her, he felt nothing but air, the second time he held onto the invisible intruder and felt something familiar run through him. When Bonnie made another agonizing sound he concentrated on her. Another second goes by and he finally manages to get Bonnie causing them to fall to the ground and suddenly everything goes dark.

Bonnie

My body shook on its on violation as my mind raced. I had seen a lot in my short eighteen years of life. I had witnessed the supernatural world, which in itself was something beyond most could imagine. I had seen death. So much death, it stained me and everyone else who had seen it. Death was like a bad tattoo it stayed with you, until you no longer thought about it. I had seen hatred, pure hatred which was something I never thought I would truly see in this day and age. Yet I had seen in it in the eyes of people that once had pure hearts. People weren't born evil it was the teaching of evil that created evil people. It also was hatred that had ripped apart souls.

My teeth clattered again as I finally looked up to see the Salvatore brothers looking at me questioningly. Stefan was pacing back frantically while Damon held onto me. His ivory hand overlaps mine, as his eyes trail over me. I couldn't hear him, I could just see his mouth moving as he tried to get me to respond. I looked up at him almost blankly I open my mouth to speak but nothing came out of me. Soon I saw Stefan and he inched closer he knelled on the side of me and reached out to stroke my shoulder.

The sudden contact of both brothers causes a jolt to run through me and its like everything is working correctly again.

"Bon," it was Damon now speaking and when I turned to look at him I noticed how frightened the ever gallant Damon Salvatore actually looked. "We need to know who did this to you, do you have any enemies?" he says swirling his glass.

I lick my lips. "No," I say easily. "Of course not!"

"Bonnie, this is serious." Stefan adds. "I need you to think really hard about anything you could've done." Stefan pauses. "Maybe while you were with Kol, or Klaus."

I give him a puzzling look. If he had only known that both Kol and Klaus would never endanger me. In fact my husband and bestfriend try very hard to keep their original business and me separate as possible. "Kol or Klaus would never endanger me, or put me in a situation where someone could or would hurt me."

Stefan scoffs and meets eyes with his brother.

Damon nods his head. He too, didn't like the way Bonnie had so eagerly came to the defense of the Mikaelson brothers. It burned him up knowing that she was even living in that damn house. But right now it wasn't about what he felt, it was about her and her safety. "What about your coven?" Damon asked furrowed brows. "Is their anyone who might be pissed off at you for ascending before them?"

I shake my head in response to give the brothers the answer they were not looking for. My coven and I, we were on good terms. When our town was basically taken from us, invaded by other supernaturals we fought together to keep our town for as long as we could...till we couldn't fight any longer. We were family and no matter how far apart we were, we still shared something special and unique between us.

Stefan snaps his fingers. "Your friend Faye, you told me once that she got addicted to vampire blood and the man she loved was controlling her," pause. "What if it were Faye."

I get up from the couch and fix myself a drink. "It wasn't Faye, trust me."

"Why not?" Damon ask arms crossed in front of his chest, his blue eyes blazing with fire.

I shrug my shoulders. "Its not her style. If Faye wanted to get to me she wouldn't do something like this and," I say turning to face the brothers. "She'd need her sister to help with the spell." I further explained. Faye and Cassie had this sibling thing, where they needed each other to help strengthen the magic that was inside them.

"Bonnie, we're trying to help."

I knew they were trying to help me and I was thankful for that, what I didn't like was knowing that I had to hurt them. "I was attacked by a vengeful spirit." I finally admit.

As soon as I confessed curses were heard all around the room. I was positive that my guardians were thinking of all the people they had screwed over while being vampires. The sad thing was, the person who attacked me was someone they loved, and cherished. "She tried to kill me." I say finally finding my voice. "She wanted to kill me." I admit warily to the two men flanking my sides.

I had known all along that Elena Gilbert hadn't been happy with the fact that I was getting closer to her boys, her words not mine. But to try and kill me- that was taking it too far. It appeared that all that anger and despair and led her on the path of what she was now, which was a vengeful spirit. Personally, I had never encountered a spirit in this type of way, until tonight. I knew that souls that refused to cross over when the reaper came from them slowly lost their humanity and often lashed out. The difference with Elena, was that she had help- when she touched me I felt magic in the palm of her hands. Someone was helping her, someone wanted her to send me a message and she was already angry and disgruntled by my newfound relationship with the Salvatore brothers.

"Who wanted to hurt you?" Stefan asked rubbing his hand soothingly on my arm.

I looked down at his hand on me and some of my fury is gone, though it's replaced with sadness.

This is going to break him, its going to hurt him. I couldn't imagine the pain he would feel amongst finding out the woman he prayed for at night. Every night hadn't found peace. Instead she had lingered and bitterly held onto a life that she had willingly given away in the first place. This wouldn't be easy, not for Stefan and, not for Damon either.

"She didn't want to hurt me. She wanted to kill me." I corrected.

Damon crosses his arms in front of his chest. "Why would someone waste time trying to kill you?" He asked as his wild eyes loomed all over her face. The only thing he could think of was that one of the many enemies of Nicklaus Mikaelson, was trying to get back at him through Bonnie. And he would not let that happen.

"Whomever it was, they cant really kill you." he says a grin lighting his face. "You're immortal a true immortal who can never actually die."

I cast my eyes down. "I'm aware of the fact that I cannot truly die as I'm sure she is aware as well." I say pausing. I shake my head confirming his suspicion."But I'm still human, I can still feel pain and everything." I say meeting blue eyes. "She wanted to make a point."

Damon leans forward following her train of thought. "She wanted to send a message." Damon says matter of fact. It was so fucking typical of Katherine to play games all the time. Well she wouldn't get to Bonnie again. He wouldn't let it happen.

Stefan stands at the window. "She's after you because of us, because..."

I stop him. "She's after me because she's a disgruntled spirit!" I say suddenly. "She cant let go and because of that, Elena, attacked me because she wanted to, not because of either one of you!" I say breathing heavy. I had wanted my words to come out nicer, I wanted to soothe them but it just came tumbling out.

You could literally hear a pin drop in the room.

"I know this sounds crazy." I say my tone softer. "But I wouldn't lie to you, Elena attacked me." I admitted. "She's been haunting me." I say honestly.

Stefan steps closer to me. "You're wrong." he says pausing. "Elena would never hurt anyone let alone someone who's lost as much as you."

I take a step back. "No I'm not! She's been haunting me for a long time, I just didn't know how to tell you guys. And today she made a move! I felt her, she grabbed me." I say looking between the two brothers. "She's obviously working with someone because I felt the magic in her hands when she grabbed me and,"

"Stop it!" Stefan says loudly. "You used a lot of magic today- you're distracted."

I glare his way. "I'm fine trust me."

"Think about it, you called out to you're parents today and that brought out their elements."Stefan says gentler this time. "We thought someone attacked you but it was just your magic pushing back at you." he says green eyes fixed on me.

I opened my mouth seconds away from reminding him that he was locked out of the bathroom when it happened but realized it was a waste of time.

"Damon," I say turning his direction, he hands me a glass of bourbon and despite myself I take it from him. I took the glass letting my fingers mingle with his for a second. "I know this is hard for you guys to hear, but I'm telling the truth-you saw it.." I say pleading into his pale eyes. "You saw something invisible grab me, I've got the bruises to show for it."

He shook his head. "Bonnie- it wasn't Elena, it was you." he says pausing as she snatched her hand away from his. The wounded look on her face was probably worst then the look she had given Stefan she looked at him like he should've known better. "Maybe you felt guilty for sharing yourself with Stefan.

My nose flares as I look at him and then at his brother. "How dare how dare either of you speak to me this way!" I say hands on my hips. "I am going to be the strongest witch to ever walk the face of this earth."

Damon is the one to walk closer to me as Stefan refuses to meet my eyes. He gets up in my face, and my personal space and I push him away from me in response.

"You are going to be the strongest witch ever to grace the planet." he says patiently. "I will enjoy watching you flourish." he says placing his hand on her shoulder. "One day you'll be forever powerful but," he says gently forcing eye contact with her. "That wont be today."

I glare and push him with all my might and he stumbles back a bit.

Stefan agrees and turns our way. "Today you're overwhelmed." he says quietly. "Today you're just a girl who got wrapped up in feeling your parents again."

His words hurt and I fight back tears. The hell with the both of them!

Out of the corner of my eyes I spot Elena. She's sitting at the far end of a chair looking smug as ever. It must have been fulfilling for her to have two men wrapped around her finger. They were devoted to her even in her death and I got it, but it still stung, the words they had said to me it hurt.

I must have looked crestfallen because I feel a hand on my shoulder and shrug it off.

"We know how capable you are as witch Bon," Stefan says gently. "I felt it, I felt you."

I flinched back. "I shared my magic with you," I say with a glare. "I opened up my world to you and you dare to speak to me this way! Like im some crazy person."

Damon steps forward. "Bon, its okay calm down." he says soothingly. "You need rest."

I push him away from me again. "I'm fine- and I'll prove it."

I looked over to where Elena was now standing in the middle of the living room. They didn't believe me, I'd show them. With my mind I began to draw a symbol on the ground just below her feet. The symbol was invisible of course, but it held all the power. I muttered a few words in Latin and soon the trap emerged.

Within seconds Elena was now visible for the brother to finally see where she stood. They all got what they wanted in the end each other.

A simple glare had silenced everyone.

"You have exactly one hour." I say turning over the hour glass. "And when its up its over." I say glaring at everyone in the room.

When I make it to the door I hold onto the doorknob and speak again. "I guess I was more capable then either of you actually imagined." I say quietly and with that I slammed the door.

EG-EG-EG

Elena

Elena Gilbert, watched as the men that had made her world spin out of control finally managed to tear their eyes away from the retreating witch bitch who had finally gave up and left. It seemed that they were much more concerned about the witch, who spoiler alert, was just fine. I mean how could anything be wrong, when she had the Salvatore brothers, her Salvatore brothers and the Mikaelson brothers at her beck and call?

She had been watching for months, the inner workings of Bonnie Bennett. At first she had just wanted to know what was so special about this girl that everyone, even the Salvatore brothers had been just about tied in knots over. Not once while she had been alive did either brother ever mention Bonnie and what was expected of them. They made everything all about her and now that she was gone, all they ever thought talked about was Bonnie. She had listened to many hours of Damon and Stefan talking about nothing but Bonnie, they wanted to protect her, the wanted to bed her, they just wanted her.

Once upon a time they had promised to love her, Elena Gilbert to the end of time, and well she wasn't going to let anyone change that, especially not someone who was not only powerful and beautiful.

Originally when Amelia had suggested a way to bring her back from death, she thought the original witch was lying, I mean she birthed Klaus who was pure evil. But as time went on and after many conversations with Amelia, she had agreed. Everyday she was away, was another day Bonnie got closer to Stefan and Damon and she didn't want that. So, she would trade Bonnie for a new lease on life as a vampire and then she'd be right where she belonged. As for Bonnie, she'd belong to Amelia and Mikael.

"Don't you guys have anything to say?" Elena Gilbert asked as she looked between the two men that had driven her to a early demise. She had loved them, so much that when it came to make a decision of whom to be with, she had chosen death. Now that she had time to think, driving her car off the road was a bit dramatic but she needed peace of mind. And now that she had been gone for so long, she was anything but peaceful, she was angry, so angry that had dare to replace her in their lives.

Damon glares in her direction. "Who the fuck are you and why did you attack Bonnie?" he says glaring at the woman before.

"Is that really all you care about, about that girl?"

"Listen bitch, we don't have time to play games and if I didn't want to burn I'd strangle you with my own two hands for you did to her." He says through gritted teeth.

In flamed, she turned burning eyes to blue. "Where is this resentment coming from?" she demanded. "And why are you looking at me like im a stranger? Its me Elena."

Damon took a long swig out of his bottle ignoring the girl claiming to be Elena and Stefan who was looking pathetically tragic at this very moment. He understood it. Stefan and Elena had that once in a lifetime kind of love. Even on his worst days, when he was clouded with want, need and destruction he could see that Stelena as Caroline had affectionately referred to them, was meant to be. He also believed that hadn't he gotten in the middle of their great love that perhaps Elena would be alive today and Stefan wouldn't be hanging on by threads of a certain witch.

Turning around he looked over at her. "How do we really know that you're our–" he paused while trying to regain his control. "That you're really his–" He says pointing to his brother. "That you're really his Elena?" he finally spills, looking to Stefan who in turn is still looking at Elena. "I mean for all we know you could be one of the many doppelganger of the Petrova line."

Elena fixed him with an icy look. "The fact that you claimed to have loved me, yet can't tell who I truly am, really does show how far you've fallen in lust." She spits out hurt and anger fueling her words.

She turned her almond eyes now to look at the man that had captured not just her heart but her soul, the very moment they had made mere contact. Stefan knew her, better than anyone else. "Stefan," she pleads. "It's me!" she says slowly. She wished with all her might that she could step out of this damned circle, but she couldn't. She was trapped in a circle of fire. And it was that fire that was keeping her from Stefan, from touching him, from being close to him.

Stefan for his part can't bare to look at the girl who shares the same face as the woman he had loved with every fiber of his body. But something is tugging on his heartstrings making it hard for him not to look at the girl who had resembled her.

She continues to longingly look at the man that should've been her forever. He would've been her forever, hadn't Damon made it impossible for her to keep her eyes only on Stefan. A memory soon slams into her, one that she held close to her heart even till the end.

"We'll always have history together, you and me– it's written in the stars." She says smiling for the first time genuinely. "Back then the words were so simple, but honest and pure because you and I." She says seeing the flight in his eyes. He's afraid to believe and that's something she understands. It's real, just like they were and are real. It takes standing in front of him now, peering into those ever-changing eyes that she remembers what the future should look like. In fact, standing in front him now, she can clearly see the future that had been so clear before her own eyes had gotten clouded by blue.

She knows in her heart that Stefan is the one, and had always been the one. They were meant to be. Death couldn't really separate them. And now that she's gotten a second, third, fourth chance nothing will stand in her way.

Stefan for his part stood still as the woman in front of him poured her heart out. He felt it in his bones that this was Elena. This was his Elena. He had known shortly after seeing her in the flesh because his long dead heart had begun to echo and mimic her dead heart. Even in death they were in sync.

"It's you. You're here really here?" Stefan declares, wanting nothing more than to finally touch her skin again. He just wanted to be near her.

Damon scoffed as he watched his brother basically melt into a puddle. Stefan was easily fooled and really he could understand. Hadn't it been from his constant need to have what Stefan had, the epic love that was Stefan and Elena would've lived on. It didn't give him pleasure to know that he had ruined his brothers chance at a happy ending, and he hated to be the one to state the obvious. However, they had to protect Bonnie, and for once he was going to be a good brother and protect Stefan as well. Elena was gone and she was never coming back.

He snapped his fingers. "Stefan, we need to side bar right now." He says causing Stefan to look over at him, yet his brother didn't dare to move. Shrugging his shoulders he finished the rest of his drink before speaking. "Stefan, Elena is gone." He says pausing. "She's in heaven and this," he says pointing to the apparent newest doppelganger. "This is some ploy to distract us from protecting Bonnie." He stresses through gritted teeth.

He wonders over to his brother and places his hand on his shoulder. "Stefan I get it. You want to believe this but is it worth someone getting a hold of Bonnie?" he says now looking at the doppelganger. "For all we know, she could be working for someone who wants to hurt Bonnie."

Elena snorts how sad was it that Damon could see right through her, before he had been so blind and now it was like she was as transparent as glass. "Wow!" She says looking over at Damon. It was really sad to see how easily he had swayed. Well to be honest it had hurt her to see how both Salvatore brothers had seemingly forgotten about her.

"Listen, don't pretend to know me." He snaps blue eyes raging. The last thing he needed right now was another doppelganger to get him off his game.

She scoffed, arms crossed in front of her chest. "You told me-not even death could stop the love that you felt for me. That you would always cherish the moments -the moments we shared together."

And that was what you called a mike drop because soon Damon was looking at her with those blue cotton candy eyes and star struck. It was good to have him back on her team but it shouldn't have taken so long to convince him who she was, if he had really loved her like he had claimed. She had come to the conclusion, not just today but after watching over the elder Salvatore brother that he had never loved her, he was just chasing the ghost of Katherine.

"How?" Damon asked his voice strained.

Elena laughs hollowly."Now you believe me." She says looking at him like he was a stranger, because in reality he was. The Damon she knew, the Damon she craved would've known her. This Damon was too far up a witches ass to notice anything but his latest obsession. Sparing him once last withering look she turned her eyes back to Stefan. Her Stefan. Nothing could stop the love they had for each other, not even her brief delusions of craving his brother.

"You know, I've dreamed about this day for such a long time, the day that you would see me just as I see you." Elena says pausing. "I always thought you guys would be much happier to see me, in my head you were happy to see me, but now it looks like you're to busy worrying about a Bennett witch." she says her tone turning ice cold. She had watched them together, Bonnie with Stefan, Bonnie with Damon and she could easily admit she didn't like what was happening.

Stefan finds himself looking down at his feet before ashamed of some of the things he had done and probably said. "I never forgot about you." He whispers. "I never stopped loving you." Stefan says again. "So many nights I wished for you and now you're here." He says a hint of a smile forming on his lips. He reaches out to touch her but fails due to the magical force around her.

For some second brown eyes soften till she looked over at the other Salvatore brother who was still looking at the door as if the witch would come back home. "For now, who knows what she'll do to me?" She mutters, whilst flicking her eyes up to notice the sense of panic that has suddenly risen in the eyes of both Salvatore brothers.

Blue eyes widen suddenly. He had never seen Bonnie so upset and he wondered if that could manifest into a bigger issue. And cause troubles for them and certainly bad for Elena.

"She was scared, she thought you were trying to kill her." He says pausing. He looks over at Elena, bewitching Elena and wonders why it feels like the spell has been broken. He still wants to save her, help Stefan save her but that crushing feeling that always came whenever he was near her, that initial rush and recklessness was gone. "The good thing is that you're back home."

Elena watched him with worried eyes, Damon was further then she thought and well she couldn't let this continue. She needed them, just as much as they needed her. They just needed to be reminded of the love the three of them shared. "She's immortal, a true immortal who can't be killed." She reminded them coolly.

Stefan speaks first as he looks over at his brother and then back to his beloved. "Elena– what do you know about Bonnie being an immortal witch?"

The girl in question shifted from one foot to the other. "I know about the deal you guys made." She said now looking over at Damon. "Damon you were supposed to be the protector of the Bennett line, and when baby Bonnie needed blood, you gave it to her," she says pausing. "Your blood melted with hers and in turn you felt this need to protect her."

His jaw was slack in shock because not everyone knew about his oath to protect the Bennett line, especially not Elena. She had never been privy to anything of that sort, especially Bonnie. She had never been mentioned before. "That's the abbreviated version, but you're right." he says pausing as his mind tries to catch up with everything. If Elena knew about his entanglement with the Bennet line, more specifically if she knew about Bonnie that meant others had known too. Images of all the people he had screwed over in his 184 years as a vampire suddenly came to mind and the feeling that accompanied it left him unsettled.

"Who told you this?" he asked in pursuit of the bar. Why did he suddenly feel extremely nervous? Why was he swirling a glass filled with ice and no liquor?

"Someone who wants to help." is her quick reply. "Stefan you got dragged into this by giving Bonnie blood later on in life, she was ill and Damon was missing in action and you saved the day." the brunette says now looking at her forever. For a moment she felt herself getting teary eyed. If this 'prophecy' was true she could truly lose Stefan. He might find love without her and someone else would take her forever.

Bitterly she speaks again. "And because you saved her and she made it to her glorious eighteenth birthday..." she paused real tears threatening to spill from her eyes. "And now she's taken my place in your hearts." she says her voice now stoic.

Abandoning his glass full of ice, Damon had started drinking straight from the bottle. Out of the corner of his eye he caught sight of his brother, and knew that Stefan too needed a drink.

Turning she looked at Stefan. "You took her to our place, our place to be alone and to forget our worries, don't you think that hurt me!"

Stefan looks down almost shamefully. "I thought you'd understand that Bonnie lost everything, her world was shattered and she was trying to pick up the pieces."

"No! You were trying to forget me, you wanted to forget me with her." she seethes all the while looking at Stefan who flinches with her every word.

The brothers share a look. They had never wanted to forget Elena, they had just wanted to move forward.

After a few seconds of deep breathing she speaks again this time calmer.

"This has never been easy for me." she says gesturing to the three of them and the triangle of doom as Caroline use to refer to it. "It wasn't easy, loving the two of you the way I did. The way I still love you...and seeing you with someone else." she swallows hard. "It killed me. Dying hadn't killed me, not really because I was always by your side, always with you- but seeing you with her, how affectionate you were with her, how happy you were with someone who wasn't me...that killed me!"

Stefan looks up into brown eyes that are filled with hurt. "We never wanted to hurt you. We were just trying to live without you."

Hurt slashes through her at his simple and honest words. "You were, living without me." she says sadly. "But I realize I couldn't live without you." she bites her lip. "Do you know what its like living like a ghost?" she asks only to gain silence. "Its cold and lonely and I cant live like that anymore...I wont live like that anymore." she says desperately. So much had changed around her, but she was going to get it all back, because it belonged to her!

Blue eyes widen. Now it was time for him to take control of this situation because everyone had known that he was the person who got shit done. "What are you talking about?"

Elena peers up, eyes bright, and smirk that would send any man down. "I made a deal with a witch, then I can get my life back." she says

Damon pinches the bridge of his nose. Elena was horrible at negotiating deals; it was a running joke between friends.

Elena smile brightly. "She's not just anyone, guys I made a deal with the original immortal witch." she says giggling at the wide eyed look that is directed her way. "Her name is Amelia, and she's of royal bloodlines. From what I've gathered and bloodline is one of the oldest supernatural lines, along with the Petrova- well Pierce, and Bennett bloodlines." she admits.

"And she told you all of this?" Stefan asked.

"Yes." she says thoughtfully. "Amelia and her family were set to be the supernatural monarchy in the 10th century. Amelia was set to be the immortal witch...the original immortal witch."

This information finally got the response she had been do desperately seeking.

"What happen?" the rogue vampire asked, his voice tight with anxiety.

She looks down. "Well, you guys know witches are suppose to be the balance of nature," she says pausing. "Amelia fell in love with two men." she says looking up first at Damon then to Stefan. "Two men, who were best friends, almost like brothers...one a vampire the other a werewolf."

Stefan sits up in his seat. "Amelia is the reason vampires and werewolfs hate each other." he says matter of fact. "She was suppose to balance out the supernatural world, but she started a war."

Elena nods her head furiously. "The supernatural elders were upset with her and soon stripped her of her title and her punishment was to live forever and know that none of her children would ever posses an ounce of magic. They've also restricted her use of magic to only those nights when full moons occur." she says each word falling off her tongue the same way the story had been told.

She tugged a piece of hair behind her ear. "When I heard her story, I felt something ache in my heart." she says pausing to look up at the men who had made her world go round. "She lost everything that she ever held dear to her because she followed her heart." she says a frown marring her features."She didn't deserve to be cast out, especially when the only thing she did wrong was fall in love." she says her voice going soft. "She followed her heart and so what if it led her to two men, she was honest with herself and that was all that mattered." Elena admits running her hands through her long hair.

Damon ran his hand over through his head. He caught eyes with his brother, neither of them were lost on the fact that Amelia had fallen for two people which essentially was what had happen with Elena. They had tore her life apart, and in the end she had lost it because of them. "Elena this is bigger than some star crossed love story. This is the woman who started the fight between vampires and werewolfs!" he says no longer able to hold his cool. "This has the potential to blow up the supernatural world."

She glares his way. "The same way your witch can blow up the whole world!"she snaps. "Amelia just wants to right her wrongs. She just wants to fix things. She deserves a chance."

Damon rolled his eyes. "I still don't get how this has anything to do with you, what could you possibly give her in return for your life."

She smiles again. "Its not what I can give her," pause. "Its what we can give her."

AM-AM-AM

Amelia Mikaelson

It was nearly nightfall when Amelia Mikaelson had finally succumb to what had been plaguing her mind for most of the day. She had spent a great deal of time, watching what was taking place in Mystic Falls, between the immortal witch Bonnie, her guardians and the Salvatore brothers. Now she just needed a moment to breathe. So much was riding on this plan, and if one thing was done wrong, if she had miscalculated then everything would go up in flames. And that was the last thing she wanted. This was her last chance to make everything right and she could only hope that everything would fall into place.

With an easy sigh, the Mikaelson matriarch gathered a fluffy throw and headed for her favorite spot on the property. Once reaching her sanctuary, she sucked in a gulp of fresh air, and let her eyes wander about the sea so far below. She stepped closer to the very end of the property and placed both hands on the railing. Her eyes darted across the sky and finally settled on everything below the compound and the cliff it resided on. Their was so much beauty outside of the confines of the Mikaelson compound and one day she had hoped to see it all.

One day, they'd see it all...together.

A cool wind suddenly wrapped around her, causing a familiar smile to trace her lips. Settled down on the grass, she closed her eyes and let her mind drift.

For only a moment she let herself imagine what life would be like if the children were here. Her lip twitches at the pure mischief she is positive Kol and Rebekah would instill. She can imagine her youngest children attacking the very debonair and so serious Elijah and knocking him into the sand. She can hear the laughter and taunting and endless jokes that came along with her children. And then their was Nicklaus. Her lone wolf. He'd always been more of a watcher, he waited for the perfect time to do everything. He was, a thinker and so much like his father. And full of so much playfulness, though one wrong move and his wild and reckless streak would show.

Deep in the pits of her mind, she saw Nicklaus watching his siblings, the tell, tell signs that he was about to make his move in the indents of his cheeks. Her son glances to her and then settles just past her, on his wife. She too turns to catch sight of Bonnie who is clutching the hand of a little girl with sandy hair and a main of curls. She watches curiously as the young immortal witch smiles softly, and places her other hand on her ever growing belly. And for the life of her, she cant keep the smile off her lips. She has her family, all of them together now and nothing and cant stop them from moving forward. Once again she watches Klaus as he winks in the direction of his bride and then soon races after his siblings.

In the distance she can hear laughter and thinks nothing could get better than this.

That is till Mikael shows up on the sand. He's got his arm around Bonnie, clutching her belly.

"You didn't think you could forget about me did you dear?" Mikael ask before vanishing with Bonnie.

Immediately she gasps and opens her eyes as if everything was real. She rubs her hands together, in nervous habit, causing bracelets to cling together. She wasn't sure what had just happened. In the coming days of the moon, her powers often returned in small doses and what she had seen could have easily been a manifestation of her mind or it could have been a premonition. Though she would love to have her children back, she wished for it every night. She knew for that to happen sacrifice had to be made and after looking in on their lives, she knew that the cost would be too much. Especially if that daydream had come true.

A shudder leaves her lips as she finally comes to the conclusion that should have came ages ago, she was alone...truly and utterly alone with no children, no friends and a husband that was constantly demanding that she prove her worth to him. A sob threatens to escape her mouth as she thinks about what her life has become, who she has become? She always wanted time away from Mikael and now that she has it, her mind is consumed of everything that went wrong and all the reasons she'll never truly have what she wants, at least not now.

Quietly she watches as the waves crash in the sea. Normally watching the water calmed her, made her feel as if she was one with nature again. But right now, her heavy beating heart was the only thing she could hear. She had two choices, she could hand Bonnie over to Mikael like he had wanted or she could do something else, something that might change everything.

She had loved him so much but as time went on the love she had for him and vice versa at times was like a dark cloud, a plague that never died out. She lost everything to keep him and he wanted to hold everything against her. Sometimes she would think, that Mikael Mikaelson was suppose to be her forever. They had built a life together, had children. And although they lost a lot, they still had each other.

Other times she'd sit across from her often brooding husband and wonder how they manage to coexist with each other. Between the two of them, their was so many lies, so many secrets you'd think the home they lived was built on lies. If the hollow halls of her home could talk she knew it would scream all of the things she had her husband had done. Some would say her accomplishment as a 'bad guy' had been starting the war between vampires and werewolves. It was unattended but the lasting effect spoke volumes.

She lets out an anguish sound. She had never meant to start a war, but it happen and now they were paying because of it. The children, were paying for her mistakes, other supernaturals were paying for her recklessness. And she had never had a moments peace because of it. Mikael had watched her every move. Normally her husband would be right at her side, or she's be at his. Call it a quirk but she was just as suspicious of he and he was of her. She loved him and he loved her but that didn't mean they trusted each other.

That was why she hadn't batted much of an eye when Mikael had claimed her leaving on a 'business trip'. She knew exactly what he was doing and where he was going. Her power hungry husband had traveled all the way to Mystic Falls to get a better look at Bonnie Bennett, or rather Bonnie Bennett Mikaelson. She had known for some time now that his growing need to know more about the young immortal witch was becoming obsession. Mikael wanted power and Bonnie had everything he wanted. She watched her husband quietly so, and realized the one thing that was keeping him up for days, weeks and months hadn't just been the fact that her son had married the young immortal Bennett witch, but the fact that he had everything that Mikael had ever wanted. She knew the lengths he was willing to go to get what he wanted and most of all she knew that he'd do anything to hurt her son. And that was why she had gotten to Bonnie first.

A wild wind runs through the air causing her hair to swivel around her shoulders. Magic was in the air, she could practically taste it. She wondered if the elders were watching her, were they anticipating her next move. After all, she had gone as far as to get the doppelganger involved. She had broken several rules but it was all in the hopes of protecting Nicklaus... and his bride.

Flashback

"I can give you everything you want." Amelia says to the very face she has seen so many times. Elena is like most of her ancestors consumed with lust and want. Though she realizes that the curse appeared to effect Elena less than Katherine, and more than Tatia and Amara. With Elena, she knows the mere mention of the Salvatore brothers will change everything

The girl pursed her lips together in a thin line, and crossed her arms in front of her chest. "Why would I want anything from you!" she says easily. "You're the mother of pure evil, and I'm positive the apple doesn't fall from the tree. I don't want any part of anything with you." she declares.

She smiles a bright gleaming smile in the direction of the Doppelganger. "Everyday that you're gone, will be another day for them to fall in love with her." she says simply.

Within seconds she could see it, the change in the doppelganger. Her lust for everything was beginning to show and just like all the other women in her bloodline that shared her looks the only thing that burned her up inside was the thought of not being the center of attention.

"They love me." the girl seethed. "They would never."

"They will." She says reaching to touch the girls hand. "I can show you everything Elena. I can give you everything, but in order for that to happen you must help me."

She nods her head. "I- I don't know what I can do."

Amelia smiles. "Let me show you what will happen if you don't help me." she says now placing her hands on the girls head and projecting the doppelgangers worst nightmare.

"No." she gasped tears running down her cheeks. "I cant let that happen." she says as if someone has stolen the air from her lungs.

"Then you'll help?" Amelia ask all the while wrapping her arm around Elena. She had known many people who were like Elena, they needed attention constantly good or bad and right now she was giving her exactly what she needed.

For some time now she had been keeping an eye on the young immortal witch and with that she had noticed that Bonnie, was growing closer to her supernatural guardians. Although, she had realized that Bonnie was a woman of her word, when it came to her marriage to Klaus, the Salvatore brothers were still a problem. And that was where Elena came in. She would be the force to drive a wedge between Bonnie and her guardians. And as a result send her in the right direction, which was with Nicklaus.

The Doppelganger licks her lips. "I'll do anything to stop them. I just have one question why."

Amelia smiles. "Gather round dear, I've got a story to tell you."

End of flashback

Amelia took another gulp of wine. Her plan had to work, she was sacrificing everything and if for this, and if she failed then their was no telling what would happen.

DS-SS-EG

Elena waits and watches as everything sinks in. They have the power to bring her back, all they had to do was let Bonnie go.

"And what exactly is that? What could we possibly have that..." he paused briefly blue eyes going wide. Briefly, visions of expressive green eyes danced in his mind, heart shaped lips smiled his way and toffee colored skin shone brighter then the sun. Bonnie. It all came down to Bonnie.

Stefan interjects. "Bonnie. We have Bonnie" he says answering the question his brother had been asking. He cant believe it. That Elena would suggest that they trade a life for a life. The way she speaks so callously reminds of him of Katherine and shudders at the thought of who she has become. He cranes his neck to look at the girl who is standing in front of them, the fire that is trapping her in place blazes bright and the shadows that dance on her face makes him shrink back, a fraction of a bit. "Elena, you cant be serious?" he questions jaw set brows furrowed.

Sucking in a breath, she speaks. "I know how this looks, you must think I'm a monster..But I'm not. I just want to be free." She says pausing. "I thought you of all people would know I deserved a better ending to my story, a story with pages filled with triumphs and failure. I deserve to live." She says pleadingly. "Everyone deserves a second chance and I just– just want my second chance." she says quietly.

Damon clicks his tongue. "I can't believe I'm going to say this," he says pausing to look at his brother and Elena. "But Stefan is right, you can't barter someone's life for your own– especially one that holds the supernatural world in her hands."

Elena glared his way as her eyes slanted into slits. "I thought you didn't even believe in the prophecy?" she asked scuffing at the elder Salvatore. The tide had turned she knew it in her heart and soul. No longer was Damon hanging on her every breath, every word and Stefan could possibly be just as affected as his brother.

He shrugged his shoulders. "How did you know that?"

She ignores him and continues talking.

She scuffs again. "I've been watching you." She says a fake smile on her face. "Actually I've been watching you both. You want to know what torture is, its watching the men that claimed to love you forever," she says pointing at the Salvatore brothers. "Move on without you with a girl that don't even know."

Stefan clears his throat. "That's not fair." Stefan says rubbing his hands together. "We mourned you, and we loved you. I loved you- I love you, but even I know this isn't right." he says coming to stand across from her.

Tears blink from her eyes, as fury builds inside her very being. "What isn't right is that you're choosing some girl that you saved on a whim, before me!" she screamed. "You guys are so wrapped up in being noble that you're willing to forget our history together for a woman who not only do you not know, but a woman whom you're lusting after!" she says her voice shaking. "It's not real, whatever you feel for her . . . it's not real, not like what we shared."

Damon hums his response. "Regardless of what is going on with Bonnie, I'm not going to stand here and act like its okay that you're trying to barter her life, or the fact that you went and made decision that effects other people and think we're just going to agree to your terms. This is bigger than you... bigger than the three of us."

Elena nods her head. "How selfish of me, it's so Damon circa year dot, dot, dot!" she says crossing her arms. "You don't even know the plan. You just hate the fact that your newest fixation won't be around for you to pain after." she says running her hands through her hair. "You know, I heard every word, every pathetic thing you've said to her! I've seen everything" she says studying him. " You really want to believe that she is supposed to be yours. You are that desperate!" she says with a tilt of the head. "But what I think gets you hot is that she's married to Klaus, we all know you like to go after girls that are unavailable." She seethes.

Damon nods his head. "Wow Stefan?" he says looking at his brother. A bitter tone is dripping from his voice. "You might wanna tell Katherine." he says stopping to smirk. "I mean Elena to cool her jets."

Elena lets out a shrill of laughter. "That's what you always wanted? Isn't it? You want me to be just like Katherine, your first love Katherine. You're looking at me like im some kind of monster when in reality I turned this way because of you!" She pointed her hand his way. "You did this, corrupted me, you showed me how to be selfish and now I want my life and I don't care who I have to step on to live again." She says slamming her words home.

Deciding it was time to step in Stefan speaks. "Elena, we know you want to live again and we'll do anything we can, but we can't give away a life that's not ours to give."

Elena swallows hard. "Stefan don't you see, you won't be giving anything away– she's immortal." she says hopeful! "As a true immortal," she says with a roll of the eye. "Bonnie can never truly die, you sealed the deal for all eternity."

Stefan rubs his neck. "She's also bonded to us, to some extent what happens to her happens to us." Stefan says reasonably. He would do anything for Elena, he did do everything for Elena she was his one true love– but this was a lot. He knew he couldn't kill Bonnie. He also knew the supernatural elders would never allow harm to happen to Bonnie.

The light that had been glimmering in her eyes died just a little at that comment. All she wanted was another chance. She couldn't lose them, not over some newbie. "Ok," she says before biting on her finger nail. Amelia had given her a plan, but really all she wanted was Bonnie if they could put her down, and keep her immobile then, everything would be okay. She would've fulfilled her part of the bargain and Bonnie would be far away from Stefan and Damon. She had to admit she was, surprised that the elder Salvatore was putting up such a fight. Normally Stefan, was the moral compass but it seemed things were changing without her.

Blue eyes watch on before speaking. "So you agree that we'll find another way, a way that allows both of you to live." Damon asks. His tone still edgy. He wanted Elena back just as much as the next person, but he couldn't help but think that maybe something had latched on to her while in the afterlife. As for Bonnie, he had meant it when he said he wanted to protect her and that was what he was trying to do. Did it scare him, yes! The way he felt about her was uncommon. He had only really loved two people and they just happen to share the same face. But Bonnie, he thought about her all the time, he thought about the future when he looked at her and smiled just thinking about her. She was his meant to be, and he didn't want to lose her not to Amelia, Klaus, Stefan or anyone else.

Elena smiled. "Amelia just needs Bonnie, restricted." She says smiling again. "All you have to do, is drain her blood." She says as both brothers to let out an outburst, Stefan had said. "What?" and Damon had uttered "Hell, no!"

She cracks another grin. "Relax, you just have to drain enough of her blood to make her weak enough so Amelia can come and take her. She'll take Bonnie and in return she'll give me back my life," she says pausing. "And then after Amelia had finished what she started, you guys can use the last drop of blood that ties you to Bonnie, you can use your connection and find her." She says slowly. "We can do this." She says happily. "The three of us we could do anything, as long as we were together, every obstacle be damned."

Stefan takes a step closer. "Elena, what makes you think you can trust Amelia?" he asks again. "Do you really think she'll be willing to give up the power of being the sole immortal witch so that Bonnie can live again?"

Damon licks his lips. "I know if I was given the chance to have full power, I wouldn't give it up." he says blue eyes intense. "And she wont either." he says coming to stand next to Stefan. "And if you think Bonnie will trust us after doubting her, you got another thing coming."

Brown eyes glare his way, but before anything can be said the fire that is trapping her in place starts to blaze, sending the vampires back.

"Its been hour already!" Stefan muses.

"She's coming to get me!" Elena screams her body shaking with fear. "Is this what you want? For me to be gone forever!" She screams. "Because I'm pretty sure she's about banish me from communicating with you!"

The flames begin to lap at her skin crawling up her leg and blazing brighter.

"Elena!" Stefan screams!

"Its your choice, you can save me or you can save her!" she says as tears roll down her face. "I wont beg you to choose me, I should be the one you want to protect, the one you care for."

A toe curling scream erupts from her throat.

"Damn it, why is she doing this?" Damon muses out loud. He looks down at his ring and briefly wonders if he and Stefan can somehow summon Bonnie. They could stop this! She could stop this!

Elena shakes her head. "It was always suppose to be me or her. I died on her birthday." She says as the fire continues to blaze. "We both cant live, and you know that."

The fire continues to burn now blazing on her waist. "She has too much power," Elena says drained. "I cant fight it any longer." she says her eyes drooping. "Is this who you want to control the supernatural world, someone who is consumed with magic!" she screams

Stefan gets a close to the fire as possible. "I'm gonna fix this, I promise...I love you...I'll fix this." he says dialing the familiar number of one Bonnie Bennett, and getting a voicemail.

Tears fill her eyes. "Love me Stefan, just love me," she says as the fire engulfs her. "Love me"

Within seconds of the words "love me" being echoed the fire died, leaving the brothers to stand alone. Gone was the fire, gone was the girl leaving them with only one choice.

Damon is the first to move as he watches his brother who is now trembling. Stefan is in shock, its obvious. He watches as eyes go to grey to black, in seconds the veins around his eyes are purple and his fangs are bared- though Stefan has not moved from his spot.

'Stefan," he called hands placed on his brothers shoulders. "I need you to snap out of it! Stefan!" this time his voice was harsher, aggressive like.

"We have to stop this!" Stefan says suddenly. "We have to do something, we have to find a way to save them both." he says desperate.

Damon for his part had never seen his brother this way, sure he had been fragile, always had been fragile but Stefan looked terrified and the sad thing was, he wasn't sure what had terrified him more- what would happen to Elena, or what they would do to Bonnie.
