Chapter 16: Fools
Klaus Mikaelson cheerfully made his way down to where the Salvatore brothers were being held.
In one hand he held a fresh cup of coffee spiked with his favorite blood, while the other was placed in the pocket of his pajama bottoms.
He wore a smirk that was beginning to turn into a full out smile with the knowledge that today or rather last night was the beginning of something good. Today was the beginning of something he had silently longed for, for a very long time and it was all coming true. And he had the rather annoying, and obtuse Salvatore brothers to thank for his good fortune. It was, because of them that everything had fallen into place and he had a love of his own– someone to share his life with and protect for all of his life.
Upon his arrival to the expansive cellar he noticed two things. First had been the Salvatore brothers. The mere sight of both Stefan and Damon Salvatore had made him curl his lip up in disgust. He had never really cared too much for the elder Salvatore but now Stefan, his once only friend– Stefan was now on the list of people had made an enemy for eternity. The brothers had hurt his wife, they had hurt Bonnie, and for that death was the first thing that came to mind– but what was even better was letting the two immortal screw ups live with what they had done. As for his wife, she'd never trust, nor would she ever forgive the Salvatore brothers all the days of her immortal life, and that alone deserved a slow clap.
Say what you will about revenge but this, was deliciously sweet.
And what was even better was knowing that the two people who had harmed his wife, were now mangled at the hands of his dear sister (who had anger issues) along with the assistance of his beloved son who was a trained fighter.
"How is she?" Marcel asked suddenly, his arms crossed in front of his chest. The one thing he hated was when people took advantage of good people, he also didn't like when people underestimated others.
"She's better now." is his quaint reply. "Sleeping." he says with a ghost of a smile.
Marcel shuddered. "Not what I want to hear." he says with a shudder once again. "Change of topic, now what do you want to do with them?"
He smirked. "I will take care of it." he says patting Marcel on the back. "Thank you, for fighting for her." he paused and looked down. "It means a lot."
Marcel shrugs his shoulders. "That's what we do in this family, we take care of each other no matter what." the younger man says simply. Klaus, for a moment just looks at his son amazed. Marcel was such a good person, and he had taken his words to heart. He was truly to have his son back in his life, he missed him and needed more than anyone had known.
He steps back and nods his head. "You should get some rest. You're room is exactly how you left it." he says positively beaming. A deep frown settles on his features. "Unless?" he purposely left the question hanging, in hopes Marcel would answer. He would love to have his son back with him where he belonged but, he wouldn't push him. They had missed so many years because he had a habit of pushing his son way too hard, this time he would like things to go differently.
"I- um, I think I'll be here for a while." Marcel says with a grin. "Seems like this family is in dire
need of me.
He watched as Marcel had bounded the stairs as human speed and could not help the feeling of bliss that had flooded his body. And then turned to the Salvatore brothers.
"Oh what a moment, I think I need a tissue." Damon rasped out. "Or maybe you need a tissue because daddy finally has his baby boy home." he says smiling and revealing many missing teeth.
Klaus laughs as he pulls up a chair. "Still all that talk, I'm surprised your vocal cords weren't ripped out?" he mused.
Damon looks to his brother and then back to Klaus who laughs again, this time with his head tilted back in joy.
Klaus tilts his head back and glances at Stefan. "Rebekah does hate liars and Stefan you're the biggest liar of them all." he chuckles. "I guess that's why she ripped your cords out, teach you a lesson."
"Why don't you leave him alone?" Damon says as he peers out his one good eye. Rebekah had done enough damage on both he and Stefan, the last thing he wanted to do was verbally spare with Klaus, but he didn't have much of a choice.
Klaus grins. "Finally sticking up for baby brother? Its too late the damage is already done and nothing can change it." he says his words hitting the elder Salvatore where it hurts most.
"Now, where are my manners." he says clapping his hands and watching as Stefan jumps at the noise. He wondered what his sister did to him now? He was positive the younger deserved every little thing done. "How did you sleep last night?" he asked his dimples deepening.
Damon frowns. "I've been through worst." and he had. Nothing Rebekah could do to him, could do worst than the haunted look on Bonnie as she realized she wanted nothing to do with him. That had hurt, and numbed him for all the pain Rebekah had in store for him.
He leans forward blue eyes shining with a hint of gold. "You truly have not seen anything yet." he says with a silent promise.
Standing he takes a sip out of his cup and smiles again at the boys. 'Since you haven't asked, I slept wonderfully. I think it has something, well," pause. "I think it has everything to do with the warm body that was draped around me." he muses smugly, as the elder Salvatore bristled.
"Waking up to a beauty like that, like her does wondesr for you." he continues for the heck of it.
Damon lets out a noise that cannot be described as anything but pain. He dreamed of Bonnie. Whenever he floated in and out of consciousness he saw her face. She made him want to hang on, she saved him. Bonnie was the reason he was here now, and he was going to do everything in his power to make this up to her. He would do anything to change her mind about him.
"Savor it now while you have it." Damon whispered his throat dry and scratchy. Your true colors will show and once it does she will run for the hills."
Klaus lets out a laugh though its tight and filled with malice. "The same your true colors shown through? All you wanted from her was her body, and obviously to get Elena back. You were using her just like Stefan, and now my wife knows exactly who you are."
Damon shakes his head. "You are no better than me and she'll see. If you think I don't deserve her then you of all people don't deserve to breathe the same air as her." he pauses as his head begins to hurt. "Let alone have her." he grits out as the pain starts to rattle his skull.
He smirks as he realizes that Melissa and her spell is beginning to take a toll on the eldest Salvatore. Stefan, too is withering in pain and it tickles him pink.
"My intentions with my wife have always been clear. She is well aware of what I want from her." he says pausing as he looks at his wedding ring and then at the Salvatore brothers. "I do have to thank you to Stefan." he says kindly. "You've made her decision so much easier by being the screws ups you've always been." he says looking at Damon. He was not daft, he had known about the prophecy and known that Damon was once considered the one who would rule with Bonnie. But, that changed, it all changed because last night Bonnie saw the elder Salvatore for what he really was.
"She trusted you." he begins. Klaus folds his arms in front of his chest. "I am man enough to admit that she, my wife trusted you and she was tempted– very tempted but you sealed your fate," he pauses to lick his lips. "And you'll never get the pleasure." he says taunting the elder Salvatore.
A low growl is heard though is mangled and very low it manages to erupt causing the hybrid to look surprised. "She's mine! She was born for me!" Damon says with as much strength as possible.
"Maybe so." Klaus says whilst picking up a stake. "Not anymore– the tide has turned." and with that he plunges the stake through the stomach of the elder Salvatore. "You lost your chance."
KM-KM
Klaus
After his talk with Damon he felt better than ever. Now though, he had important business to take care of. It was important to find who had dared to strike against his wife and her kingdom.
Klaus Mikaelson sat behind his big desk a pen in his hand and he began to write out his thoughts about the last twenty four hours. A curve met his lips as he smiled at the memory of her, curled into his body this morning. Together, they had made much progress of course he hadn't anticipated that one look at her would literally have him falling to his knees and confessing everything he had thought was buried deep down in the recesses of his black heart. But then he met her eyes and all his secrets were revealed.
It had taken all his strength that of vampire, werewolf and man to leave his slumbering wife. She was literally the light to his centuries of darkness and would do anything to protect her. He promised to protect Bonnie and that was what he planned on doing. He would've loved to continue to lye in bed with her and continue to be used as personal pillow or personal...anything for that matter. However, a promise was a promise and he had promised that whomever had dared to attack his wife would pay dearly.
Sitting back in his chair his tries to think of the list of his enemies who would have the gall to attack his wife, because in reality he couldn't imagine anyone hating Bonnie. If so, those who were against his wife were simply jealous. Twirling his wedding band round, he closes his eyes and briefly remembers something the doppelganger had said last to him.
"Amelia says hello."
Of course Amelia was behind the attack on his wife. Anger boils inside of him, causing him to tear apart his liquor cart. The only person who would be daring enough to attack his wife, to attack him would be his mother. He should've known, she had been quiet for far too long and now she had decided to come out and play at the wrong time, she had messed with the wrong one.
Walking to the window, he remembers the last time he had seen Amelia Mikaelson. His mother, had claimed that she had come in peace, that she meant no harm and like a fool he had believed her. After all, she had essentially abandon her children when she had taken the side of her husband more than five hundred years ago. Yet when she stood before him for once not being the wicked witch she had turned into, he had seen a glimpse of his mother, the one that had loved him so dearly.
Flashback
Here he was Nicklaus Mikaelson, a king in his own birthright, nervous as a regular ole mortal.
Never in his life had he been this nervous, but right now, in this instant, nerves were rattled and his anger was skyrocketing all at the same time. And to think, this was his blasted wedding day.
Pacing back and forth, he eagerly clutches the cell phone in his hand so hard, that it nearly breaks.
"What do you mean, you can't make it?" he asked his voice raising with each word asked giving away his anger that was simmering before but now was boiling.
Sigh. "Just what I said, I can't make it." Pause. "Listen Cami–"
He chuckled unamused. "Uh, Camille, you're still seeing her, good to know so now when she vanishes from thin air you'll know why." He says his voice sounding all too cheerfully for his own ears. Marcel had been dating this woman for far too long, and he didn't like it in fact he didn't like her. She was, poisoning his son and most of all she was the reason Marcel would not be at his wedding. So that was check, and checkmate, it was official Cami needed to go soon.
Marcel snaps. "Stop threatening her! And for the record, despite your feelings about her, she's important to me." Pause. "Human or not, I love her."
All calm left out his body. Camille was important, more important than this family, than him...no- never.
"You're missing my wedding, for a bartender who wants to use you as he science project? She wants to get inside your head and learn all the intricate details so that she can use them against you."
"You don't-" Marcel starts to say but stops.
"She is writing a book, has a publishing deal and what do you think your little bartender would write about?"
"It's fiction."
He smiles against the phone. "Her book is based on your life, how convenient. And you– you just throw away everything for her. I am getting married, and you were suppose to be my best man and as my son it is your duty!" he hollered outraged by the whole situation.
Sighing Marcel speaks. "You told me two days ago."
"Which meant you should've been here yesterday! Yet you are nowhere to be found. It seems that Camille now trumps family loyalty and what not."
"Can I at least explain?" the younger vampire asks.
"No need. You not being here explained enough, goodbye Marcel." He snaps abruptly hanging up the phone.
Letting out a harsh breath he gritted his teeth. He loved his son, dearly, but right now he was upset with him and the mere sound of his voice was beginning to grate on his very prickly nerves.
And he didn't want to be upset not now, not when he was marrying the most beautiful woman to ever exist, the most supernatural powerful woman to ever be born.
With a small shake of the head, he maneuvers over to the bar. Growling he fixed himself a drink. He of course had wanted his son to be his best man, but in case something had occurred he had also offered the job to his dear sister, Rebekah was set to be his best woman. That of course didn't mean that he was not going to miss his son because he would, he wanted Marcel by his side and that wasn't going happen today but it would soon. He would never give up on his son, and everytime he spoke to him he would try his hardest to bring him back where he belonged . . . home.
Bringing the glass to his lips, he stops at the mere feeling of the air shifting. He was, no longer alone.
"You have a lot of nerve showing up here." He says not daring to look at her.
She did this sometimes, appeared out of nowhere to bring misery his way. He suspected that this was a game to his mother. Her children were like interchangeable chess pieces and she adored playing mind games with each and everyone one of them. Amelia Mikaelson had promised Rebekah the bond a mother and daughter could only dream of. She had dangled her affection in Kols face, who seemed to only want to be noticed by their mother. And had tormented him because she had fallen in love with a werewolf and he was the result of her great love affair. The only person she had dared to leave unscathed was Elijah, and he even suspected she had toyed with his emotions as well. She wanted Elijah to keep her children under his thumb and do her bidding but Elijah would rather run for the hills than ever help her.
Amelia smiles. "I am your mother and in case you've forgotten Nicklaus, I can come and go as I please." She says walking about the room, as her long skirt drags on the floor and her bangles continue to clink together.
He chuckles dryly. "You're my mother when it suites you." He says pausing to look at her. She has not changed one bit, everything about her is the same and it's the saddest thing he has ever seen. He wonders when she will finally get tired of trying to destroy her children?
She turned her head away from him and then swiftly smacked him across the face. "I protected you in my womb, carried you for nine months and birthed you! You will always be connected to me Nicklaus, I am your mother and you," she says her tone changing. "You will always be my son." She says her voice wavering. "You will always be our son." She whispers more to herself than him.
He locks his jaw and studies her for a moment. "What are you doing here?"
She smiles. "I'm here because you wanted me here." She says softly. "Even though you claim to hate me, you still wanted me here for your wedding day." She laments. Slowly she reaches her hands out and begins to fix his tie, which is a mess. The boy could never fix and tie.
He says nothing but silently basks in the face that for once, his mother is being a real mother. That of course doesn't mean, that he'll let his guard down, not with her, not ever.
"If you marry her Nicklaus, " she says pausing. "You will be reshaping her future." She says meeting his eyes that were so like his father. She can only bare to look at him for mere moments before finding somewhere else to look at because it hurts . . . it still hurts.
Stone faced, voice filled with venom he speaks. "That is none of your concern, nor your business!" he rants as he grabs her hand and twists it. "My wife is not the concern for you and your husband."
She grimaces in pain. "Do you really want to change her life? Do you want to change her world because you can't simply think of yours without her in it?" she asked sternly. "You'll be cursing her to life of Mikaelson burdens and sins." She says vehemently.
He stumbles back, her words cutting deep.
"Nicklaus, she deserves more." Amelia implores. "She deserves more than this cursed family! You marry her and she'll turn out just like me." She says slowly.
He pushes her away from him. "She is nothing like you!" he rages. "The only thing you've said worthy of my attention Amelia, is that Bonnie deserves more." He says pausing. "She deserves everything and I'm going to be the one to give it to her." He says passionately. "Not you, or your mad husband is going to stand in my way," he threatens. "I'll tear you all apart, " he says a smile forming on his lips. "Bonnie, is mine."
She stepped back. "For now," she says with ease. "But for how long?" she asks. "We both know, you cannot keep what is not yours," Pause. "And that girl, she's not yours."
End of Flashback
Wiping his face. He took a moment to breathe in and out before doing something drastic like tearing up his office. The memory of his mother and her games had been forgotten the moment he had seen his future bride. She made him forget everything and anyone else and now he believed his mother, Amelia had in fact sent that awful Elena girl after her.
He couldn't believe that he had been so blind. It had been in his face–but he hadn't wanted to see it, to see her as a threat.
He clinched his fist together tightly welcoming the pain. It was nothing compared to the pain he was feeling in his dead heart. Of all the people to attack his wife, realizing it was his mother hurt the most. This was not like her usual games, no this was betrayal . . . this was the final betrayal she'd ever sling his way.
"Kol." He called softly. His younger brother was the only person he could confide in especially when he was this angry. Rebekah would take some time, it would be difficult for her to believe the worst in Amelia, although their mother was the worst. As for Elijah he was off running in the wind in the hopes of having a perfect life with his protégeé.
Ten minutes later Kol finally arrived, which was nine minutes too late. He glared at his younger brother and secretly wished he called Rebekah instead.
"I see your wearing a glare and have a drink in hand." Kol pauses. "Well top of the morning to you." He says sinking into one the comfy chairs. "May I ask why I was summoned?"
He lets out a sigh, long and hard and finally meets the eyes of his little brother. "She did it." He says quietly.
Kol lost as ever tilts his head to the side. "Um who did what and when?"
Whirling around he throws his glass at the wall. "Amelia! That's who did it!"
Kol blanched. "The old woman has now powers."
He nods because he too had thought of the same thing. "Quite the contrary brother, she has powers on the full moon." He says frantically. "Last night was a full moon!" he says shaking his head. "The whole day she could've been using mythical objects to gain access to her powers and by nightfall when they were finally restored," he pauses. "She went after my wife."
Kol sinks down in the chair, his good mood long gone. "Why now?"
"Why not, she's bored and normally I could care less but she messed with my wife." He says his voice shaking. "She hurt what is mine and now she's gonna pay."
Kol licks his lips. "Did you share any of this with Bekah, Marcel, Elijah?"
He snorts. He thought about it, it was be much easier. But Kol was connected to Bonnie, they were friends and he would fight like heck for her. "Just you." He says going to stand by the window. "She's your best friend."
"And I will do anything for her." Kol reminds his brother. "But we need proof, we need proof Nik." The younger reminds.
He grits his teeth together hoping against everything that Kol would be quick to ask questions later. It was painfully obvious that Amelia had recently gotten her hooks into Kol as well.
"And we will and when I get the proof, she's dead." He says matter of fact. "It was time to bring in reinforcements and get Amelia where it hurt most, her corrupted heart."
Kol stands and fixes himself a drink. "If she's done what you think she has, I'll help you myself. Rebekah and Elijah can sod off."
He smiles wolfishly. "That's why I called you. We need to present a united front." He says holding up his glass
Kol nods. "And we will."
"For Bonnie." Klaus says his eyes on his wedding band. In the distance he hears Kol echo his sentiments as well. "Now its time to bring in the rest of the family."

Bonnie
When I had, awaken the next morning I knew that I needed to get a few things in order and that was why I was now standing in front of Marcel pleading to let me see the Salvatore brothers. We had lots to discuss.
"If you're worried about Klaus, I can handle him." I reassure Marcel. I know I've said it before but I need him to understand that I am okay and Klaus will be fine as well.
Marcel snorted. He was positive Bonnie could handle Klaus. In fact the girl had the original hybrid wrapped around her tiny pinky. What scared him, was what would happen if something had gone wrong.
He had only been in the presence of Bonnie and Klaus for only a couple of hours and he had seen it. He had seen something, he thought would never happen. Klaus was in love, he was honest to god in love and with Klaus that meant much more than anything else. "If anything were to happen you do realize that I'd have to hear about it for 500 years." He says rubbing his head.
"He's already on my case for missing the wedding." Pause. "If you get hurt,"
"They can't hurt me." I say quickly causing Marcel to rub his chin. It's obvious by the look on his handsome face that he realizes that it's too late, they, the Salvatore brothers had already hurt me. But that would never happen again. I wouldn't allow it. They had broken my trust and used me. I was just another witch to them, any witch to disregard and use as a bargaining chip.
"Bonnie" Marcel calls.
I bite my finger nail and then look up at him. "I trusted them." I say my voice low. "I believed in them and they lied to me." I say pausing as I catch blue eyes with Damon. "I need a moment with them for me." I say exhausted already. "I need to talk to them. I need to get some things off my chest for me. This isn't about Klaus. This is about me, and what I need so I can move on."
He steps back. "Okay." He says heading for the door. "He's not going to like it but I get it."
I smile at him. "Thank you, I know your father probably told you to turn me away." I say pausing. "And I'm sure he is going to have a fit. But Klaus is my husband, and being married means we're partners he doesn't get to control me and today he'll learn that."
Marcel takes a good look at her. It appears that in the last few hours she has grown up quiet a bit.
"Well it seems you'll fit into this family just well. I'll be upstairs if you need me." He says heading for the door. He stops and looks over at the Salvatore brothers. He looked back at Damon, they had gone way back but it seemed the rouge vampire had messed with the wrong witch this time and she was going to stomp over his heart.
BB-DS-SS-BDS
When the door closes, I turn to face the brothers and realize that they look like actually death. When I told Rebekah she could have them, I had no idea she would do all of this.
"Bonnie." Damon calls out as he opens his eye again. He had seen her and then passed again. But now, she was here. "You came! You came back because you knew," gasp. "That I would never hurt you intentionally."
The sound of his voice did something to me, but I pushed it down. It was the bond the elders had created for us, nothing else. "I came down here because I wanted to talk to the two of you." I say my voice getting stronger. "I wanted to give us all the chance to be open and honest with each other." I say looking in the direction of the battered brothers.
He coughed and wiggled against his restraints. "Anything...anything, you want– ask me anything and I'll tell you the truth." Damon grunted.
I ignore his words and walk further into the room. "I spent all morning preparing for this." I say pausing. "And when I say this I want to be the only thing on your mind, not the hunger or the pain." I say as two blood bags appear in my hands.
"Take it." I say holding the blood bag up to the eldest Salvatore. For a moment he just looks at me with his one good eye before wrapping his lips around the straw and finally drinking the blood bag.
I watched as he marred skin began to heal. No longer was he ashen from the look of blood his life source. The color in his eyes even appeared to change from steel to that of the arctic waters.
He grunts as the blood starts to rush through him and heal some of the damage.
"Bon," he calls when she removes the bag from his lips. Their close now, but when he looks at her the warmth that was always behind her eyes is no longer burning bright.
I swallow hard and fling my wrist causing the restraints to break apart on his wrist and feet and watch as he lands on the ground hard.
"I need to help your brother." I say moving away from him.
Standing in front of Stefan, I take a second longer to look at him. He lied without a care, and deceived me. He played on my emotions and manipulated me. The worst was that I shared so much with him, and used that against. It was obvious to me that Stefan Salvatore was sick. Looking at him now, as he looks back at me, I realize just how unstable he is. His eyes are telling me that this is game to him, that he's having fun and that terrifying.
The Salvatore brothers as a whole were a mess. Damon may have been lost, he may have even been callous but Stefan was truly a monster. And the worst part was that he didn't care, you could tell by the smile on his face.
"No!" Damon roars causing me to turn around.
He licked his lips and carefully took the blood bag away from her. He blamed himself for the loss of spark in her eyes. It was he, who thought helping Stefan would be a good idea. He in the back of his mind wanted to absolve himself of the guilt of wrecking Stefan and Elena and the love they shared. And as a result he helped hurt someone who didn't deserve any pain sent her way.
He had put Bonnie in danger and he would never forgive himself for that. He had seen the signs that something was wrong with Stefan after Elena had vanished and ignored it. It was obvious now that his brother was losing his mind, if he hadn't lost it after seeing Elena disappear for good this time.
"I don't want you near him!" he seethed. "He's unstable and who knows what he'll do." He says reaching out and holding onto me.
"Don't touch me!" I say jerking away from him.
The sound of chanting causes me to turn around where I find Melissa who has apparently been listening and soon I hear the sickening sound of a crack while Damon crashes onto the floor.
I look to her. A brow poised in the air. "What was that?"
Melissa bites her lip. "He wasn't listening to you, he will now." Pause. "Bonnie, you can't use your magic on them, let me do this?"
I look over to Damon and then Melissa. "Fine, but if you start to get weak stop."
Melissa nods her head and starts chanting again. My eyes look around the room as she continues her spell. "You didn't have to crack his neck." I say my eyes landing on him.
Melissa stops chanting. "I know that bond is tearing you up inside, its making feel things for him." Melissa says standing in front of me. "He lied to you, and if he's anything like his brother," Pause. "Who knows what he had planned for you?"
BB-BB
When a sudden gasp echos through the room, I know he's completely healed. The first blood bag had been enough to get his motor started after the damage Rebekah had caused. However, when Melissa had preformed her spell and snapped his neck in a haste to protect me, that took things to another level.
"What-what happened?" he asked realizing for the first time he wasn't chained. He had a dream about Bonnie, she spoke to him many times and fed him blood and then, something happened everything went black.
I looked him up and down. "We needed to take an extra precaution just in case."
He followed her train of thought. "I would never hurt you." He says desperately. "Do you hear me Bonnie, I would never intentionally hurt you!" he says once again as she stares as him blank look on her face.
I put my phone away and give him my full attention. "You can't hurt me. Damon it's impossible." I say briskly.
He wants to say he believes otherwise.
Silently he glanced at his brother. It gave him no pleasure to see how far Stefan had fallen it had only made him sad. He had listened as his little brother had begged for more pain because he had nothing left in his heart. Stefan had begged Rebekah for more claiming that after Elena and her betrayal nothing could possibly hurt him any longer. He wailed about how he was willing to do anything for her and that he had gone against everything he had believed in all for Elena.
"I've got nothing left Rebekah!" Stefan had wailed. "End me, I made a move against the queen, against the supernatural kingdom, my deception will surly cause a stir with the elders." Stefan gasped. "Do me a favor a rip my heart out do it!"
He had watched in horror as Rebekah had stepped back and dared to look his way. She too looked just as frightened. And then, he watched as girl Klaus had ripped out the vocal cords of his brother. She had claimed it was for every girl he had ever lied to, deceived or tricked. It was plain as day that Rebekah was just bitter about everything. In the end, she had claimed it was for Bonnie who deserved so much better.
"It's a spell helping to subdue him." I say noticing that Damon is looking at his brother. At once he turns and faces me a stark look crossing his features.
"How long will he be out?" he asked looking at Stefan. His brother looks angelic now, but he is aware that something ugly and deep is hiding inside of his brother.
I shrug my shoulders. "Long enough." I say easily. "Anger is a very powerful weapon." I admit now standing in the middle of the room. "And even while unconscious, your brother has deep anger in his heart and mind."
He turns to look at Bonnie who looks like the picture perfect image of perfection. She looks like an angel to him, his little angel.
"He's not angry at you–but at himself." He says licking his lips.
I hum in response. "I guess we will have to see." I say walking closer to the younger Salvatore blood bag in hand.
"NO!" Damon roars surprising me as he breaks the boundary spell and races my way!
Wide eyed I looked at him. I had never heard of anyone breaking a boundary spell, especially someone that was a vampire. Well, at least not an original vampire. And last time I checked Damon was a regular run in the mill vampire.
"I don't want you near him!" He says deadly serious. He's said this before of course, it's all coming back to him now. They had a similar conversation earlier about this and then everything went black.
I recoiled at his words! How dare he not trust me? He and his unstable brother were the ones who lied to me. They used me yet here he was yelling at me! "You don't trust me, you think I'm going to do something to your brother?" I asked trying to hide the hurt. I would never waste my time on hurting Stefan because he was hollow with nothing left inside. He perfected being someone that he wasn't. He was dead inside and not just from being a vampire but from letting her take over him and what little bit of his humanity that was left.
He had enough nerve to look away and take a step back. Gazing down at her, he could tell by the steel in her back and the way her green apple eyes lit up that she was angry. Power wafted off of her into the air giving off a beautifully intoxicating scent that was like the cinnamon candies he liked to eat so much.
He tilted his head to the side. "It's not you I don't trust," he says pausing. Sometimes his mouth tended to get him in trouble and the last thing he wanted was trouble with Bonnie. "It's Stefan." He looks down and sighs.
If Stefan had indeed been plotting to use Bonnie this whole time then what else was he capable of? He certainly didn't have enough faith in Stefan at this moment. He was expecting his brother to lash out and probably hurl nasty words, much like ripper Stefan. The truth about Elena, it killed Stefan, she was his everything. The fallout would most definitely leave his brother teetering off a dangerous cliff.
Swallowing hard he spoke. "I don't completely trust him, not where you are concerned." He admits shakily.
I study him, my eyes raking over his face, the way his jaw is stiff and the rigidness in his voice. His eyes are colder than usual but I suppose the same can be said about myself.
Crossing my arms in front of my chest, I walk closer to him. "Why should I believe that you," I say pointing Damon in the chest. "And him," I say looking to Stefan. "Won't try anything?"
He turned her sharply and touched her face. "Because of you, Bonnie," He says looking at her with wonder. "Because you can look me in my eyes and know that I mean every word I say." He says passionately. "And if you don't want to do that, you can feel it, touch my heart." He says desperately, flashing her way.
I glare and push him away from me. "Lets get this over with." I say unaffected by his words.
"And remember Marcel is upstairs." I remind him. "You should also remember that my best friend is upstairs as well, and although I cannot preform magic on you she can and she will." I say airy. "She hates traitors and liars as much as I do, so don't get on my bad side."
His lip hitching up into a smile. "You're mad because you know I'm, . . . telling . . . the . . . truth?" He assumes and smirks this time. "Its okay, we can talk about this later."
This time I smile his way. Little did he know I had already taken steps to rid him and his lying brother from my immortal life. Much later would mark the end of Bennett Salvatore union.
Seconds pass and soon Stefan is slurping on a blood bag.
We wait in silence when a pained sound is heard through the room as Stefan finally comes, too.
Gasp. "Damon it hurts!" Stefan howls.
He's torn between hating his brother and seeing him in pain. Briefly he looks to Bonnie and then back to Stefan. "Sorry, but this is all we've got for right now." He says studying his brother who is jittery.
Stefan looks around almost in the daze and then spots the reason everything went downhill. "You!" he says pointing to Bonnie. "You did something to me!" He accuses.
I roll my eyes. "I didn't do anything" I defend. "Unfortunately I can't." I say bored already. Being in the same space as Stefan had literally made me sick to my stomach. I would never let it show though, that jerk would never get any emotion out of me, I'd bury it. "The blood did have something in it to suppress your inner vampire urges." I admit causing Damon to look at me wildly.
Blue eyes go wide as Bonnie dares to move closer. "Bonnie," he calls warning.
Ignoring the elder Salvatore, I continue to speak to the lying Salvatore. "Your human emotions are turned on, amplified if you will." I say matter of fact. I can't help but smirk as Stefan looks at me surprised by my actions. "That's why you feel the way you feel now. You feel betrayed and hurt." I pause and look him square in the eyes. "It sucks doesn't it to be betrayed and feel all the nasty emotions?" I ask
Damon looks between the two and finally settles on Bonnie."That's close enough Bonnie." He says causing her to spin around and walk away.
"What?" I ask facing blue eyes. "I don't trust him so I'm going to have a backup plan and on top I'm going to have a following up plan." I glare.
He eyed Stefan momentarily before once again looking at Bonnie. "Why didn't it work on me?" he asked curiously. "I still have my speed, reflexes and everything?" Damon mused.
I bite my lip. That was something that had shocked me to. The spelled blood should've worked on everyone who had ingested it, but it didn't work on Damon. Obviously the spell worked, I was able to preform it because it was not directly on the brothers but indirect. "You should be without your supernatural powers as well." I admit. I looked up to see that Damon was staring my way.
"Does this mean, I'm immune to magic?" Damon asked his lip hitching up in a smile.
"No." I dead panned. "Melissa cracked your neck earlier. "I guess it's a mind over matter thing." I shrug my shoulders because really it doesn't matter why Damon is immune to my magic. "The only logical explanation is that you were able to break free from the spell because you wanted to." I say pausing. "You are the original Bennett protector and you broke through the boundary spell to stop me." I say more to myself. "You wanted to stop me from feeding your brother."
I let out a noise. I bet this had something to do with Damon being the original protector of the Bennett line. He thought he needed to protect me and so he did. My head suddenly was starting to spin. I needed both Salvatore brothers out of my life, and could only hope the elders would grant my request.
Stefan glared. "So you were just going to leave me here unconscious to dessicate?" the younger vampire fumed.
Blue eyes roll. "Calm down. You got your blood." He says looking over at Stefan who looks even more unhinged then he had moments ago.
"I wont calm down!" Stefan rants. "She fed me, well you fed me blood with a hint of magic. What makes you think she even healed me? Huh?" Pointing a shaky finger her way, he continued on. "She, she banished Elena before I got to say goodbye." He says his face grumbling. "And you dear brother," Stefan says looking at Damon. "Would do anything to get between her legs, even sacrifice me!"
I licked my lips and stepped through the barrier. "I can't speak for your brother, but I can speak for myself. I'm not you, so no I was not planning on letting you dessicate. I wouldn't do that." I say now in his face. "I don't lie. I don't have any reason to lie." I say as a slow smile creeps to my lips as I touch his face. I watch as he flinches on contact before he stares at me with cold grey eyes.
Swiftly I turn around catching sight of a cooper medallion I hadn't noticed before. "I came down here because I need to get a few things off my chest." I say bending down to pick up the coin. The moment my finger make contact, I feel a tingle as if energy has been sent my way.
"First question of the day," I say pausing to examine the coin once again, and then shaking my head in disgust. "Where in the world did you get a Bennett medallion from?"
I watch as the brothers look at each other uneasy and tense. They say nothing just stare at each other and it's very creepy. It's only when I clear my throat that they even remember I'm here. That's when I notice it, Stefan he looks almost shameful and his eyes are shiny. Was he about to cry? If so it was truly a marvel he was able to keep himself together this long. Moments ago, the younger Salvatore had been laughing and now he looked almost remorseful.
"Tell me. You didn't?" Damon asked teeth gritted together so hard I could piratically hear and see the gnashing of the teeth.
Looking down the younger spoke. "I was going to save Elena. I thought it would bide us some time." He confesses.
I couldn't help but laugh. This man was clearly delusional. "Let me get this straight, you thought a Bennett medallion was going to work on a Bennett witch?" I let out a scuff. "You are far worst than I thought."
Stefan looks up all traces of sadness and shamefulness gone as a smug smile forms on his lips. "It did before. I used this very medallion before and it worked, just not on you." He says looking me up and down. "It just didn't work on you immortal witch!" Pause. "Maybe it has something to do with the hybrid in your bed, you know him the one you swap bodily fluids with." He says nastily.
I ignored his words as a memory came to surface.
A divot formed between my brows as I remembered something my grandmother had once told me. She had claimed each woman in our Bennett line had a coin especially for them, with our initials on it. She had said that often the medallion was given to those whom we loved, those who we as Bennett witches wanted to protect and whomever had the coin was safe. In all, it was to ward off against attack and weaken enemies.
I ran my fingers over the coin and soon found the initials of the one and only Sheila Bennett.
"Oh my god!" I say as the medallion slips out of my hands. "Grams spoke with so much affection for you." I say realizing that, the high regard for Stefan was brought on for her love for him...even after all these years. "And you were going to use her token of love to strike me down!" I roar.
I wanted to tear Stefan Salvatore apart! He was everything that I found disgusting and he didn't deserve the love, grams once had for him.
Stefan smiles. " You have amazing eyes when you're fired up." He says easily. "Has anyone ever told you when you get mad you light up and you smell," He inhaled. "You smell delicious." He says grinning. "I can still feel you, ya know— since you channeled with me." He says smirking. "Can you feel me?" he closed his eyes briefly. "I bet I was the best you ever had?" He says gleefully.
Inside he was simmering as he listened to Stefan talk and brag about Bonnie. He didn't want another man commenting on the way she smelled after magic, and especially not Stefan.
"Shut up!" he says as Stefan continues to look at Bonnie with hatred and hunger in his eyes. It was unnerving to see as his brother seemed to be enjoying the way he made Bonnie feel. And by the look of it, he had disgusted her. "Don't say another word to her, or I swear."
Stefan smirks. "You're just jealous because like always you get the crumbs, while I could've gotten it all tonight." Stefan says eyeing his brother. "She was ripe and for the picking."
At full speed his charged for his brother effectively knocking powerless Stefan down. Rage filled him as he thought about all the crap that had just occurred but most of all what he was implying about Bonnie, and with that he swung easily breaking his brothers nose.
"You dick! You broke my nose." Stefan screams. "You're just jealous because another girl shared herself, gave it to me first before she even dared to look at you." Stefan snarls at Damon before setting his sights on me.
A curl comes to his lips "As for you Bon, believe me, channeling with you was by far the best, outer body experience I've felt in a while." He says with a wink.
I frown at him. Believing in Stefan and sharing myself with him was my biggest regret. "You truly are disgusting." I say causing Stefan to smile again. "You are the worst. And I am truly glad that my grandmother got away from you so that the monster you are couldn't corrupt her."
No longer given his brother his full attention he made his way over to Bonnie who looked fierce. One thing Stefan got right was the way she smelt, so freaking delicious. He felt his fangs starting to show with one whiff of her. "Hey," he says touching her shoulder. "Forget about him. He doesn't matter okay."
I fling his arm off of me. "Don't!" I snapped. Trusting Stefan had been a mistake and Damon was just as bad. Nothing could change what happened. My eyes were open now. And I saw the Salvatore bothers for whom they were, not what they portrayed. "Did you know he was planning to use this against me, did you plan this with him?" I ask finally looking at Damon. I hated myself for holding my breath as he mulled over my words. Better yet I hated that the ancestors had linked me to him and his crazy brother.
"No!" he says sharply. "Apparently Stefan had been lying to both of us." He says turning his attention to Bonnie who he realized released a breath once he admitted his truth. He then looked at Stefan who was now looking remorseful again.
Stefan held his head down in shame. No matter what, he didn't want his brother to get caught up in the crossfire of it all. He may have wanted to hurt him a little bit, but it seemed like this had taken it too far. "You were already in too deep brother." Stefan says matter of fact. "You couldn't decide if you wanted to screw her or push her away. One minute you could care less and than the next you couldn't figure out why she didn't want you." He scuffs. "But in the end, it's the chase that you like isn't it? You won't touch another girl unless she has the smell of another man on her isn't that right?" Stefan asked with a chuckle
He took a step closer. "I'll break every bone in your body if you keep it up." He threatens blue eyes blazing.
Stefan shuffles back. "You were in too deep. You had come to the conclusion that you and Bonnie were meant to be, and that meant you were no longer on my team." Grey eyes shine. "You always pick them over me, so why would I tell you anything?"
He felt something run through him similar to lost. He and Stefan were so far apart. He hadn't even realized that they were much worst than before. Sure they had more than a hundred years of ups and downs but it was only now that he realized that what he did to Stefan and Elena, it's what changed his brother into this unrecognizable monster in front of him. "I told you I'd help you save Elena." He says stealing a glance to Bonnie who had stiffened. He realized she probably thought he was ready to throw her under the bus just like Stefan. "All I asked of you was to let Bonnie be." He says clarifying himself.
Stefan clicks his tongue. "I did what I had to do." He says getting louder. " I did what I thought was right!" He says glaring at Damon.
Damon scuffs. "You blew everything up in our faces! That's what you've done. You made a move against the crown, do you realize what could happen to you . . . to us?" He demanded.
Stefan laughs."If you weren't after a new kitty, you would've done the same thing for Elena!" Stefan rants activity ignoring the mention of the crown because well that scared him. "You must really enjoy sloppy seconds to be this keyed up." He continues. "For all you know Klaus could've had her in ever position and that just makes you want to fight harder to get her." Stefan muses. "You truly are sick brother, one sick man."
I watched as Damon balled his fist and decided to step in, not for Stefan or for Damon but for myself. This was not about them and whatever issues they had been lingering. From my position it was obvious as the sky was blue, Stefan was crazy. As for Damon, well I wasn't sure about him either.
"Enough!" I say gaining their attention. "As riveting as this brother emotional co-dependency dysfunction is to other people and other girls; I don't care! You are here to listen to me, so shut up and listen!" I say gaining the attention and finally full attention of the brothers.
It was then that I noticed everything in the room was shaky. Heck the earth was shaking with my fury. I closed my eyes briefly and simmered down before turning my attention back to the two men. "Now, if all goes well– you'll be as free from me as I am from you." I say causing the brothers to throw me a questioning look. "Well be done in five minutes tops." I say easily.
Everything was set, I just wanted the two of them to hear what I had to say and hopefully by the end of the night, I'd never have to deal with another person with the last name Salvatore again.
Damon licks his lips. "Klaus isn't going to let this go– he told me so this morning."
I nod slightly. I heard about all the stories of what Klaus had done to his enemies. And after last night, I could see the love in his eyes that he had for me. However, this was my time and we were going to do this my way. "Perhaps but I'm willing to let this go."
"Why?" Stefan asks skeptically. "Why would you let us go, is it for your husband to track us down and finish what his sister started?"
I look down. I hated what they had done to me, how they had made me feel. But I wasn't the type of person to hold onto anger, and grudges. And I didn't want to start now. "I don't want to harbor hate or ill will. That's not me. But most of all I want to be nothing like the two of you." I say looking to the brothers. "You are both damaged by everything you've done and what other people have done to you and I will never be that girl!"
I say walking away from them. "Ya know, it almost happened. I almost let my anger take over and I was willing to have a spell cast that have the two of you shaking for the rest of your immortal lives. I was going to cast a spell that made you feel like you make other people feel. Of course, I would have to find a loophole to use magic against the two of you." I smiled. "And I did find a loophole, but than I realized you weren't even worth the time and effort."
He cleared his throat. "What changed your mind?" Damon asked.
I looked down at my immortal crest, and instantly remembered the girl with so many hopes and dreams about her immortal life. "I remembered who I was, not what your deceit and lies, corruption, could do to me." I say lingering a look at Stefan. "I remembered me." I say simply. "When I was a little girl, I use to hear stories about my guardians, the Salvatore brothers. People use to tell me that three of us would change the world that I would help you change for the better and you would help me evolve for the better. And I," I turned away from the brothers. "I believed everything everyone said about the three of us. They said our bond would get stronger whenever we were together and that would be the key to kingdom that needed greatness."
For a moment I'm lost in thought as I thought about that girl who had believed so much in her guardians. That girl was gone now, but replaced with her was someone who determined to build a better kingdom with people of her choice.
Turning to face them I spoke. "I believed in everything. Everyone said we could be, and what we could do together. I believed this, because I believed in the two of you even before I met you." I admit to the stunned silent brothers. Even Stefan who was vile had the nerve to look ashamed. Though knowing Stefan, it could be a ploy. Damon on the other hand looked as raw as I felt.
"Bonnie," Damon calls. "We . . . I still want to do all those things. I want to help you. Anything you want to do, anything you need I will do anything!" He says emotionally charged.
I look over to Damon who is pleading with me to listen to him, it's in his eyes, it's written all over his face but it's too late. "No, you're not listening to me! I did believe in the two of you, but not anymore. I want nothing to do with either one of going forth in my immortal life."
Damon soon comes close to me as I step back giving him a warning look. "I won't give up on you, or us. Together we can still do this, we can take on the world, we can save the kingdom."
I get in his face and stare at him for a few seconds. His blue eyes are shining. "You are just as delusional as your brother." I say pulling away from him.
Stefan having watched, the scene can tell right away that something is different about this situation. Something, perhaps he hadn't noticed before. For the first time he noticed Bonnie and Damon, Damon and Bonnie together.
"Damon had no idea I had the medallion." He says stiffly. "I didn't tell him anything. He had nothing to do what I had planned for you. So don't be mad at him, be mad at me." He says his voice low. "So don't punish him because of me, punish me." Stefan yells causing her to look his way.
I chuckle dryly. "I'm not mad, I'm disappointed but that happens. I should've known all about the two of you when I called out to you on my birthday and got nothing in response. I called out to the two of you on my wedding, I wanted your guidance and you couldn't even bare to answer."
Looking back now, I was so lucky that they hadn't shown up. Who knows what they would've done, how they would've tried to use me. Marrying Klaus, may have been an alliance but the way he treated me last night, the way he lept to my rescue and was quick to stand at my side—was what a real man...a true partner would do. Klaus acted on pure instinct you could see how genuine he was, I could see it in his eyes. He held me all night and he defended against the Salvatores. He was a true man and what a husband and protector should be.
Blue eyes go wide. At the mere mention of her birthday he blanches. He had felt something that night–in his chest but ignored it. He ignored her and now look how things had turned out. "If I could change that night and answer you, answer your call I would. I would do whatever it took."
For a moment the honesty of his words in his words, in his voice catch me off guard. Damon Salvatore was known as a beautiful liar, but for the umpteenth time he was telling the truth.
"We're finish here." I admit swiftly removing the boundary spell from the room. "You're free to go." I say turning away from him.
"No, I'm not done talking to you!" Damon says urgently.
Turning around I face him and glare. "We were thrown together out of circumstances." I say easily. "You shouldn't have been saddled to taking care of me all your immortal life, when it's the last thing you want and it's not what I want."
"I want you!" He yells. "Can't you tell? I want you?" He says carefully as his voice has lost its bite. "And I don't care if I have to knock down the big bad hybrid to get to you." He leers.
I ignored him and the passion in his voice and eyes. "I was made for greatness and I won't work with people I don't trust or people who have ulterior motives." I say simply. "I set up a meeting with the elders so that we can part ways and live our lives freely." I say noticing that Stefan is back to being a vampire because he is sucking down a blood bag.
"Now" I say clapping my hands. "You guys are free to go. The elders will be in contact with you shortly."
Stefan sucks down a blood bag and tosses it over his shoulder. "The elders, you informed them about what happened?" he asked.
"Of course, I have no secrets with the elders." I say facing him. The monster is back. I can see it in his eyes.
"What happens to us or do you even care?" Stefan asks a bite to his tone.
I glare at him. How could I have ever thought he was my friend. "You set this in motion whatever happening is on you." I say now appearing in his face.
Damon watches intently as Stefan licks his lips. He would never let his brother hurt her again. Quickly he stands in front of the petite beauty putting himself in between her and Stefan. He eyes Stefan, as he pushes Bonnie behind him. "Let it go Stefan."
" You are so very predictable brother." Stefan says walking around him. "And Bonnie, your taste will linger on my tongue till the day I die." He says with a grin. "I'll savor that kiss knowing that I could've gotten more out of you and knowing that you are aware of it to."
Gritted teeth. "Gtfo Stefan!" he bellowed
And with that the grey eyed vampire sped off.
Left alone he looks over at her. He's still in awe of her, had been since the day they met. She is a better person than he, and probably the rest of the condemned town but here she is to save everyone in it and the supernatural world.
He licks his lips and tries to pace himself. She's upset. Stefan really got to her and he doesn't know how to fix it, or if he could fix it.
"I'm gonna fix this okay. " He says turning to face her. "I'll prove to you that it was real for me, like it was real for you. You like me, and you're drawn to me as much as I'm drawn to you." He says touching her hand. "We are soulmates!" he says softly. "I was given the Bennett line early on and you, you are the last Bennett to ever be born."
I look up at him really look at him and realize that he believes this, he wants to believe in this fairy tale that is not going to happen. I don't believe in this tale, not anymore. "You really believe this don't you?" I ask as he nods.
"You feel it too." He says walking closer to her. He puts his hands on her shoulders. "I know you felt it, the spark...the flame that ignited the first day we met."
He was right I felt it, the first day I met him standing outside the grill. I had never felt that way about anyone ever. But that was stemmed from a connection that was fabricated by the elders. It wasn't me, and it wasn't Damon. "I may feel it, but I don't believe it and one day soon you'll stop believing it too."
He frowns at me, brows furrowed and blue eyes chilled. "I've waited 200 years B, and I'll wait longer if that's what it takes. I'm confident in us, because you were born for me, Bonnie Bennett and I am yours."
Just as he is about to leave I say something causing im to stop mid stride. "My name is Bonnie Mikaelson and I don't belong to you, and I never will."
He stops and looks to her and smiles. "One day you'll be Bonnie Salvatore being soulmates and all guarantees that."
I turn my back to him again and when he places a kiss to my cheek I let out a breath I hadn't realize I had been holding.

Bonnie and Marcel
Trudging up the stairs, I find Marcel in one of the oversized chairs, a glass of whisky in hand. We share a look and he passes me his glass and fills up another for himself. I had to give him credit, he never once came down stairs. He gave me the space and the respect I needed and I was great full for that.
"You do know," pause. "Klaus is gonna lose his mind!"
"Yep." I say remembering how he went ape on me about spending time with the Salvatore brothers. Had I listened to him from the beginning we wouldn't even be in this place now.
Noting the sad look on her face, he sits up. "Listen the wrath of Nicklaus Mikaelson is a fate not many have escaped, but" He says looking at the girl. "He'll do anything in the name of love and he does love you. As long as you're okay, he'll be okay." He says sagely.
I sip my whiskey. "I needed to release them and myself from something we had no control of. I needed to do it for me."
He swirls his glass.
"Don't I know it?" He says licking his lips. "Sometimes when you go your own way, others don't know what to make of it." He says knowingly. "But it's important to always stay true to you and not live for anyone else but live for yourself." he says sitting back in his chair.
I look over him and place my drink on the table. "This sounds like its coming from experience and not b.s." I question.
He snorts. "Is it obvious?" he says before smiling. "Years ago, I wanted to do things my way. Of course, Klaus had other ideas." He says as his mind travels back. "But I told him that I needed to do this for me and I meant my words to him. He hated it, but he got over it."
My eyes went wide. Klaus had mentioned that he and his son hadn't seen each other in years. Could this be the blowup that had put a rift in the father and son relationship? "What happened?" I asked leaning forward. "Did he scream? He is a screamer?"
Marcel wrinkles his nose. "Too much," He says shaking his head.
At his reaction I could do nothing but laugh, and laugh I did. I felt like I was wound up way too tight and this, and my glass of whisky was helping me to loosen up.
"OMG, is Bonnie smiling? And here I thought the Salvatore brothers sucked you dry?"
I gave him a look. "Seriously too soon." I say picking up my glass once more.
He sighed. "Klaus ended up following me to where platoon was stationed. Mind you this was a war, but nothing stops Nicklaus Mikaelson when he wants something" Marcel says dryly.
"What did he do? Better yet, what did you do?"
He chuckles and rubs his chin. "He had a tent filled with the best blood and women he could find. He wanted me to come home and by with my family.
"And?" I asked lost in his story.
"I said no." He says getting up from the chair. "I told him when I looked into the mirror I wanted to see me, not someone else." He turns around and faces her. "I wanted to be me, find me and stop being the person everyone wanted me to be."
I smiled up at him. "Thanks Marcel." I say heartfeltly.
"No problem." He says grinning. "Now, if you could be so kind to get Klaus off my back for missing the wedding that would be awesome."
I wink at him. "Consider it done."
Im halfway out the sitting room when Marcel calls me back, a grim look on his face.
"I'm not trying to get in your business, but I've known Damon a long time and I've never heard him be as sincere as he was with you. Don't get me wrong, I'm still rooting for you and Klaus . . . I just thought you should know."
I nod to him and soon leave the room. I had to prepare to meet the elders.

Stefan
The very moment he was free to leave the Mikaelson compound he knew exactly where he was going. This was all her fault. Elena had done this to him. From the moment he had first laid eyes on her, Elena Gilbert had been on the forefront of his mind. She was his everything, his life, his light and her death had been his downfall.
Speeding down the highway, he turned up the radio really loud and swerved down the street. He was being reckless he knew, but with everything Elena had done, what he had done and was prepared to do along with the impending meeting with the supernatural elders in mere hours . . . he could afford to be reckless.
Getting out of the car, he takes his time to find her tombstone and once he does, he sits down next to it, eager to speak with her as per usual. The last couple of hours had changed everything yet nothing at all– at the same time. He hated her, he hated Elena so much because he loved he and she had abandoned him because she couldn't choose between him and his brother. Her death had set things in motion for him, he was restless and if he were honest he had been falling off the wagon of human blood on and off for the last couple months. The only thing that had kept him minimally sane was the plan he had been orchestrating since the moment he found out that Klaus had married Bonnie. He wanted to make the hybrid pay and in the end it all backfired on him.
Slumping down on the ground he touches her tombstone, his fingers following along each letter of her name. Elena Marie Gilbert, was her name and he had been in love with her face since before he was a vampire. But her face wasn't what he had fallen for, it was her, her love did something to him and together they were perfect, soulmates...true soulmates written in the stars kind of soulmates. And then she let temptation get in the way and changed everything for the worst.
"I should hate you right now." He says tearfully. "I do hate you!" He admits mournfully as his voice shakes with fury and hurt. "But I love you, just the same." He says letting out a sigh. "So you see Elena, you have me, always and forever." He says looking down at his hands. "I was willing to do anything to get you back, I had even planned on trying to use magic against Bonnie, and in the end it cost me all I have left." He says chuckling madly.
He sits for a moment just letting the words he wishes he could say to her beautiful face marinate in his mind.
"My brother will never forgive me for what I've done, what I was prepared to do." He says to her ghost. He breaks out into a smile. "I should be happy, I did to him what he had done to me." Pause. "He is the reason we didn't get our forever. Some would say an eye for an eye." He says with a chuckle before covering his face.
His head was beginning to pound and he literally felt like he was going insane. He kept hearing Elena screams for him to save her and he couldn't. And when he closed his eyes he saw the dejected look his brother had given him. And Bonnie, despite everything he did like her. She was a sweet girl . . . but Elena was begging to be saved and he had to save her.
He gasps for air. "Is this heartache, is this madness I don't know?" He screams out. "But I do know that I hate the way I'm feeling, which is unsettled. I played my hand wrong, I underestimated everyone in this damn game and now I've pushed the one weapon that could stop Klaus, that could bring you back," he pauses. "I sent Bonnie into his arms. " He says leaning his head back. "And what's worst is that I get the feeling I lost my brother all because of my score to settle."
Standing up, he dust the dirt and grass off of his clothes and lets out a shaky breath. "I don't know what I'm doing anymore, but I do know that I won't let Damon pay for what I've done . . . what I was planning on doing to Bonnie." He says finally. "Tonight at the supernatural meeting with the elders, I'm going to bare all and make sure the one thing I do right is save my brother."
He touches the headstone one more time before turning around to face the one person he didn't want to see, the one person he couldn't bare to face.
"Sheila." He gasps at the woman before him. Instead of looking her age, Sheila Bennett looked exactly like the girl who had given him the Bennett charm for protection. "How is this possible?" He says swallowing hard as he eyes her. "You're a witch elder now, why do you look like you do the last time I saw you?" He questioned shakily.
Sheila tilts her head up in the air. "You wanted to see me and I'm the one that closes to you from her bloodline." She says walking ahead of him. "I'm your connection to Bonnie, and I'm also that person that will bring you to the elders." She says stopping suddenly.
He licks his lips. "I'm sorry for using the coin on Bonnie."
Turning around sharply she glares at him. "You should be! You were going to destroy my granddaughter!" She seethes. "My blood runs in her veins and you were going to use that coin I gave you, knowing what it would do to her." She says icily.
He shakes his head and grabs her arms in which she rightfully so pushes him as far away from her a possible. "I never meant to hurt you Sheila, I . . . I." He stammers stepping back. "I just wanted what was mine back!" He screams. "When you left all those years ago, I never thought I would love again." He says breathing heavy. "And then I found Elena." He pants. "She was my everything and I would do anything for her."
"At the very expense of my granddaughter! Tell me Stefan what would you have done if the coin worked on Bonnie?"
He steps back. "I don't know!" He roars taken aback by the sight of his past. "I don't–" He means to say he doesn't know but the glare in her eyes tell him to stop being wasting her time. "Sheila.."
Sheila took a moment to look at him, really look at him. This was not the man she had fallen in love with all those years ago. That man was gone and the person who replaced him paled into comparison. "Would it have been worth it if my granddaughter, my blood had switched places with Elena? You wanted to trade my granddaughters life for that girl, so you tell me what makes her so damn special?" she asked disgust in her voice.
Stefan lifts his head up brow tense. "She's not just any girl to me. Sheila I love her."
"Oh" Sheila says holding her hands up in mockery. "You would trade the supernatural world for the girl that was born to bring on the supernatural apocalypse?"
He blanched at her words. "We could've saved her," he rapt out intensely. "Bonnie could've saved her."
Sheila crosses her arms in front of her chest. "Possibly, but Bonnie, she recognized the destruction someone like Elena Gilbert could be to the world." She says taking a step forward. "She was your downfall Stefan, the doom of Mystic Falls." She says softer. "And she took everything that was good about you away."
He shook his head, not believing this. He had always walked a very dangerous line, Elena and what happened had just pushed him to choose a side. "That's not true and you know it, you know me—you've seen me through my ups and my downs."
She smiled sadly at the memory. "I did know you Stefan but you threw it all away for a girl, who destroys everything in her wake." She licks her lips. "Didn't you ever wonder why death is all around her, why bad things happen in the presence of, for the love of . . . Elena Gilbert?"
He grits his teeth. "It doesn't matter what I think, because your granddaughter banished the love of my life!" He yelled into her face. He couldn't stand here and talk to Sheila, just looking at her it brought up emotions that had been buried years ago. "I lost her a second time, when I still wasn't over losing her the first." He admits eyes starting to water. "I'm losing my mind without her. She was everything to me." He admits. "She is everything to me." He reinserts.
"Clearly." Sheila voiced as she examined the broken man in front of her. One thing was for sure. Stefan had lost his mind. The only good thing about this was that her Bonnie, would be far away from him and his disastrous life soon enough.
She pursed her lips together and looked around as the wind caught up. "Its time Stefan, the elders are waiting for you."
He flinches back at her words
Taking two steps forward he speaks. "Sheila, I really did love you." Pause. "And, because I loved you– I never meant to hurt you." He admits painfully so. "Bonnie was just..." he struggled to get the rest of his words out.
He opens his mouth to say something else but she holds her hand up and silences him.
"It's time. The elders are ready for you now."

Damon
When he arrived home, he flung his leather jacket on the nearest surface. He was glad Stefan wasn't in sight because if he had dared to see his little brother he might just snap his neck or possible, probably do worst because what Stefan had done, what he had done was going to take a long time to get over. If this were simply about him he could get over it because everyone had known he had made hasty decisions. But Stefan had put Bonnie in danger and if he were honest he wasn't sure he could forgive his brother.
Gulping down his drink he thought about the last words she had said to him.
Flashback
When they are alone, he looks her way, she looks drained, emotionally so, still beautiful as ever though, like a beautiful angel. And this angel was given to him. She was made especially for him.
He licks his lips. "Listen to me, I had nothing to do with whatever Stefan was planning." He says taking a step forward. "I'd never hurt you intentionally." He says his lip hitching up into a smile. "It's not wise to piss off the girl who holds the supernatural world in her hands." He says chuckling. "Nor is it wise to piss off your forever love."
She tilted her head to the side. "I'm not your forever love." She says so easily that the smile that was once on his face drops instantly. "The supernatural elders thought we should be together, obviously that's not going to happen." She says finally looking up at him.
He swallows hard. "You're just saying that because you're upset and you have every right to be." He says now in front of her face. The hurt that is etched across it, does something to his chest, a tightening feeling has invaded him. "You," He says touching her face. "Were made for me." He whispers. Blue eyes watch as she flinches at the word like the thought truly does disgust her in such a way.
She nods her head, and smiles though it's sad. "Yeah maybe I was born for you." She says with a pause and that mere pause has him tangled in knots. "But you weren't born for me." She says so coolly that it makes him shiver. Her words, her demeanor everything about her is icy and he hates it, he hates what Stefan did to her . . . what he did to her.
He stumbles back. "You don't mean that!" he says afraid of the way his voice is shaking. He's afraid of what she'll say next, and most importantly the damage he had done by being idle to Stefan and dangerous plans. "You believe in this prophecy . . . I know you do." He says gripping her shoulders.
She smiles and for the first time it reaches her evergreen eyes. "I believe in the prophecy." She says radiating positively beautifully. " I believe in my prophecy." She says easily. "What I don't believe is the male counterpart, not anymore." She says effectively escaping him.
He lets out a sigh. "I know that I've done a lot of things wrong, I made you feel bad and most importantly I made you feel like this prophecy was a sham...but I believe it!" He says desperately for her to listen to him. "I was just afraid to admit because then all the stuff I did before you, all the people I've hurt and the lives I've ruined were for nothing."
When she dares to look at him again the words that were aching to come out die in his throat. She's so beautiful in this moment, this one moment that she had let her guard down since the clusterfuck of last night had occurred.
She bites her lip for a moment before speaking. "I'm glad you can be honest with yourself." She says pausing. "And since you're being honest with me, I can be honest with you." She says quietly. "I believed in you. I wanted to believe in you." Pause "And even after the times you let me down– I still believed that in the end the prophecy would lead me to you because it started with you and ended with me."
He couldn't help but smile because that meant even though she and Klaus had been playing house, she had some type of hope that in the end she would be led to him.
"But," She says causing the smile to drop from his lips at the harsh sound of her voice. "That was left over feelings of a teenaged girl, who heard stories about her very own white knight, Damon Salvatore. The prophecy is more about saving lives than it's about romantic entanglements. And the truth is, I don't want you or your brother on my team. I'm going to unite the supernatural world and I don't want anyone with me that will jeopardize what's really important."
Fury flashes across his face, and simmers in his blood. He will not lose her. Not, now when he can finally see clearly. He had been so stubborn before. He had wanted Katherine and later Elena to be his but the truth was, he had been given someone so long ago, his patience just wouldn't let him wait.
His eyes were open now, and he wasn't scared of the future of what being a part of the supernatural prophecy meant because, now he realized it meant that he'd be with Bonnie.
"You can't just write me out of your story," He says intensely. " I'm a part of it. The elders saw to it." He says rashly as ever. "You can try but I'm not going anywhere." He says honestly. He reached out a took her hand ignoring the way she glared at him. "And the chance of the two of us falling love will be infinite for as long as we both shall live."
Her heart beat is a music to his ears, and the blood rushing through her to her cheeks signaling that she isn't as calm as she is portraying causes him to smirk. Bonnie may be upset with him now, but you don't react to someone so emotionally charged in less you felt something one way or another, now it was anger but one day it would be love. And he could wait. He would wait.
Eyeing her wedding ring, she holds it up to show it. "Never gonna happen, but if you want to wait, possibly starve yourself in the process," she shrugs her shoulders. Be my guest. Just know that I will be with the one person who not only believes in me, but whom I trust, and we both know that's Klaus." She says smugly.
He nods his head. "For now." Bonnie could run all she wanted but they would end up together, it was practically written.
She smiles back. "Forever." She says sure of herself.
End of flashback.
He cracks the glass thinking of all the things that had been said and the reason for the hostile way he had been kicked out, and the kicker was that he wasn't the one who had screwed up, no that was Stefan yet he hightailed out of the Mikaelson home like his butt was on fire.
He could admit he had made many mistakes with Bonnie. For one, he treated her like she was just another girl in the long list of girls. He treated the blooming friendship between them much like a cat and mouse game. He wanted to get under her skin as much as she had gotten under his skin and that made her think he wasn't serious.
When the door slams his lets out a low growl because he is in no mood for company, especially Caroline at that.
"Seriously Damon! I've been calling you and your brother for hours you can't just drop off the face of the earth like that!" She rattles while walking though the mansion as if it's her own personal catwalk.
He looks at her coldly but she seems to ignore it all together.
"And Bonnie, she isn't answering her phone either!" Caroline shrieks. "We were supposed to go running this morning and she was a no show." She says finally taking a look at him. He looks worst for wear. "What did you do to her?" She asks pausing.
He growls her way and finally speaks. "It wasn't me, no it was Stefan. He did this." He says shaking his head. "He, he- he hurt her!" He says whirling around and throwing glass at the fire place.
Caroline lifts her brows. "They were happy, and playful."
He watches the flames dance. "He was using her." He lets out a sigh.
"What did he do Damon?"
"Stefan did the unforgivable."
DS-DS
"I loved her, I loved Elena but this is so much more than just trading a life, Bonnie holds the supernatural world in her hands." He admits. "And bringing Elena back, it's not worth the chaos that will ensue without Bonnie." He says to the two girls who were gaping at him. Caroline had been here for most of it, but Bree had come in near the end and she still looked shocked.
Caroline peered up at him. It wasn't too often that Damon of all people spoke logic, especially where Elena was concerned. However it seemed like with the addition of Bonnie, his mind seemed clear. Still, she realized that he was upset and so was she. To find out that Elena had taken her life, it hurt because she lost her best friend but it hurt more knowing that this came about over a love triangle. Life was so much more worth than which guy you wanted to be with. And she wished Elena had confided her struggles with her. Maybe she could've helped, maybe she could've saved her?
"So Elena wanted you guys to trade Bonnie and her life, for her so that she could live again?" Caroline asked trying to put two and two together.
"Yep." He says drink in hand.
"Would that make Elena an immortal witch if so, or just immortal?"
He shrugged. "I don't know Caroline!" He whirled around. It was on the tip of his tongue to tell all and reveal that Elena was banished for as long as Bonnie and elders see fit. But he didn't have the heart. He knew the elders would want to send Elena back to the other side, in fact he was positive that Bonnie would do it herself because she was done with everything.
Caroline shivered. "How are you?"
"I don't know." He placed his glass down. "I'm angry at Stefan, at myself at Elena! Im just angry and scared that I blew my chance with Bonnie. I'm also scared that Stefan is too far gone." He says almost defeated.
"How's Bonnie?" Caroline asks soothingly.
He licked his teeth. One word could describe Bonnie and that was done! "She's understandably upset." Pause. "It's not every day you find out your friend actually had a villain plot story twist to your life." He says letting out a shaky breath. "She's weary of everyone, well everyone except Klaus and his family. She's made it abundantly clear, that she thinks I'm as shady as Stefan."
Bree licked her lips and decided to tread lighter than usual. "Can you blame her?" She asked causing Damon and Caroline to look her way. "She's coming into a town that worshiped the ground Elena walked on. She has no ties to this place, so why should she trust anyone in this town? Klaus is all she has and Stefan made sure that she'd never trust anyone else but Klaus and his family."
Caroline speaks."But Klaus is the bad guy."
Bree tilts her head. "Maybe to you Klaus is the bad guy, to me he may be the bad guy. But to Bonnie he's the guy that saved her, and Stefan, and Damon are the ones who hurt her. "
Caroline messages her temples.
Bree continues to push further. "Bonnie, is a black witch and that usually means you come last in this town. Bonnie has every right to push you away Damon, to push everyone away. I know you care for her, but take it from someone who knows better– she has to trust you and do this at her own pace, not yours or the towns pace."
He glares at his long time friend. "You know she's more than a witch to me Bree, you know this. I can't just sit back and do nothing."
She runs her hands through her curly hair. "Okay, you are not listening to me. To the world, to a lot of people Bonnie is a means to an end." She reminds him her voice softening. "Think about it, the supernatural world belongs to a beautiful black woman and she just got betrayed by her guardians." sigh. "She needs to align herself with people she can trust, people who will help her fight this war and right now she can't fathom it including you."
He gritted his teeth. "I would never hurt her!"
"I know." She says placing her hand on top of his. "But a lot of people would, if they could." She reminds him.
Caroline clears her throat. "Do you think more people will try to attack her?"
Bree folds her arms in front of her chest. "Probably, but after word gets around what happened to Elena, most people will get the idea out of their minds. Bonnie is untouchable, but that doesn't mean she is not human or that she can't hurt. The good thing, is that Klaus is at her side and if you weren't scared of what our Queen has done, you'll be afraid of the hybrid at her side."
He hated to admit it but Bree was right. If he couldn't be with Bonnie right now, to help protect her he was at least thankful that Klaus was with her. He may have hated the hybrid but, he knew Klaus would do anything in his power to protect Bonnie. Which was something, he had dropped the ball on early on.
Hanging his head low and let out a low growl. He had a front row seat to hurt that Elena and Stefan had caused Bonnie. Whomever was behind hurting Bonnie, they may have come up with the plan, but it was about the actions of people she trusted, that hurt the most. Often, he had forgotten how young she was, Bonnie was just a girl much younger than Elena and still she had the whole supernatural kingdom in her hands.
"I have to make this right." He says suddenly. "I– I.." He says looking for his leather jacket. "I didn't say enough about her. I talked about us. She has to . . . she needs to know that I won't give up on her that I'll stand by her side." He says finally giving up on the leather jacket and heading straight for the door. "I have to see her!" he says determine.
Caroline used her vampire speed to get in front of him. "Hold up!" she says waving her hands in front of him. "You have a meeting with the elders, the highest of supernatural beings, higher might I add than the Queen herself." She says now pointing him in the chest. She licks her lips. "I think you need to concentrate on that first, and then Bonnie." She points out.
He rolls his blue eyes. "Don't get sappy on me now kiddo." He says pinching her cheeks.
"Caroline is right. This is huge." Bree says standing with her hands on his hips. "I know you want to help but right now you have to concentrate on you."
He looks between the two and puts his keys down. It seemed like the ladies had spoken.
Slowly he walked back to the sitting room as the girls followed.
"Okay, what do you have for me?" he asked looking at Bree.
She smiles faintly his way. "This is really important Damon. It's going to secure your future." She says noticing how he is suddenly intrigued.
"Do you know something, get a premonition?" He asked leaning forward.
She places a thick wavy strand of hair behind her ear. "I know that as the Bennett line original protector the elders will expect more from you than Stefan." She says suddenly nervously. She had only known a handful of people who had gotten in contact with the elders and Damon was about to have a front row seat with them. She'd hate for his past baggage to be used against him.
Suddenly she looked up at him. "You have to cut out the b.s. and be true Damon." Pause. "Because they will see right through you."
He slacked against the wall. "What am I up against?"
She blew out air. "You're up against the best and purest of each supernatural species and probably a few Bennett witches and warlocks you've lost along the way."
He cursed inwardly. He had made a lot of mistakes in the past. He had been a very selfish person, his words and actions had hurt people and he could only hope that they could see how he was changing. And although he was changing as a slow rate, he was finally becoming a better person. He could hope that the elders would have mercy on him and see the potential he knew was inside of him. If given the chance.
"Damon, what are you going to do?" Caroline asked causing him to snap out of his thoughts.
He swallows hard. Typically this would be the time when he would joke, or pull of some kind of last minute plan. However, today he was all out of plans, all out of schemes. The only thing he had was honesty and that scared him. He was hardly ever real or honest with strangers and tonight he'd have to bare all in front of everyone, for Bonnie.
"The only thing I can do, and that is talk to Bonnie." He saw the protest form on her lips and continue on. "She's the only thing I care about. Everything else can fade in the background. I know what I did, how I've hurt lots of people and I'm not proud of it but I'm a better person now than I was back then. And I hope," He pauses when a sudden warmth fills his body.
Just as he is about to mention it a portal opens up in the middle of the living room. The light is so bright that he has to shield his eyes.
"Wait it's too soon?" Bree gasps because she was positive this was supposed to happen much later.
"I didn't even get to talk to Stefan!" Caroline calls as the light gets brighter revealing a single person in the middle of the portal.
Stepping out of the portal she stands in the very familiar Salvatore home. She looks back at the portal causing the light to dim to reveal her identity.
"Damon." The woman calls causing him to snap his head up and meet her with startled eyes.
"Emily." He called, his voice shaking just a bit. Here was the woman who had intrusted her whole family linage to him, in hopes that he would not only be able to save her but her children and further more. So far, he hadn't done such a good job. He was aware that Bonnie had a cousin Lucy but she had fallen off the map a long time ago, and to tell the truth he wasn't sure, this cousin was still living.
"It's been a long time." She says flapping her angel wings.
He bites down on his lip. "Indeed it has." He says finally meeting her chocolate eyes. Emily had been his friend, of course in secret but she had been his friend and he had let her down. It was sad to admit, but he had wanted Katherine more than he wanted to save his friend, and now she was standing before him in modern clothes and angel wings. She looked at peace though and he was thankful that she found peace.
"Listen Emily,"
She waves her hand to stop him. "It was my time to go. All I wished for was that my linage would be protected. We lost many along the way, some due to your brother, others due to being a witch. But after the storm, came Bonnie." The woman says smiling. "And she is the most important Bennett of us all."
He says nothing but nods his head.
"The elders are ready for you Mr. Salvatore." She says effectively ending the heart to heart.
He steps closer to her. "Okay, I'm ready. But first," he says pausing. "Tell me something . . . "
She gives him a knowing expression. "Bonnie is with people who love her, and people she trusts." She says watching him closely. "Come on, the elders are waiting."

Mikaelson Family
"Nik, I thought you promised me a day of peace yet you interrupted my beauty sleep for what?" Rebekah asked as she descended the last step and found herself standing in front of her brothers.
"Now, now Bekah we know that sleep won't help that sour look that's on your face." Kol grinned widely.
Rebekah glared and then swiftly punched Kol in the eye. "That'll teach you. I hope it turns black and blue." She says ignoring his whining and finally facing Klaus.
"Now, why am I here? What are you up to?" she asked causing him to roll blue eyes.
Half crescent moons appeared on his cheeks as he regarded his sister. "It appears your mother has decided to play puppeteer again." He says casting a look at the framed photo of Bonnie. It had been a picture where she wasn't looking at him, in fact she wasn't even aware he had been watching her and her beauty shown through even with her back to him.
"What are you talking about?" She asked outraged.
He places his hands on the desk. "I'm saying she was person behind Bonnie getting attacked."
Beks looks around. "You cannot know that! You have no proof." She says hotly. "Bonnie is with us now, and we all have a lot of enemies." She says now pointing at her brothers. " And with the track record you two have, these enemies are bound to be yours."
She was right he had many enemies but not one of them would dare to attack. "I feel it in my bones." He admits truthfully. "She's been too quiet and we both know what mother does when she bored. Ad for the proof, she hates my very existence. I am the reason Mikael will never let her in." He admits pained. "And it kills her to know that I am happy with someone as beautiful and powerful as my wife." He says turning his back to her.
Crestfallen she speaks. "How do you want to go about this?"
He smiled. "She won't question you wanting to get close to her, so you're my bait little sister." He says pleased. "And if this matter is too difficult for you then I'll drag Elijah back here myself and his happily ever after will be put on hold."
He walks away and stands by the window he fists curled "never again will anyone hurt her." He declares. "She's one of us now and we protect our own.
The voice of reason Rebekah stood next to him. "What if you're wrong?"
He glares sharply at her, and then catches eyes with Kol. "I'm not wrong."
She swallows hard. "But what if you are? I understand that you feel quite bit of affection for her, and you have hopes." She says carefully not to aware Kol of the plans Klaus has for Bonnie in bearing his child. "If you're wrong, this could start a war between us and our parents on top of your wife being the Queen of the supernatural kingdom."
He sucked his teeth. "Bonnie and her safety is the only war worth fighting."
Kol watched idly as Nik and Bekah had done what they always had done which was cut him out. Bored he looked at his phone to see it was flashing and Melissa was calling.
"Ah Melissa can't seem to get enough of me, now can you?"
He waited and then a sigh came through the line. "Actually I was looking for your brother."
He nearly sputtered his drink. "Say that again doll?"
"I've been trying to find your brother. Its about Bonnie, she needs him." Pause. "She needs you both."
Kol held the phone up and turned around and met the startled eyes of his brother. Phone long forgotten, he watched as his brother rushed away with him and his sister trailing behind him.

Bonnie
When I'm alone having probably scared both Melissa and Marcel away. It's now that I let out a trembling sigh. My faith is not shaken, not in me or the people around me. My heart though, is heavy as I truly mourn for a little girl who had idealistic dreams about her guardians. Though I must admit I was extremely let down, the bright side of things was that the Mikaelsons were people I knew I could trust. And I was grateful for that.
"Bonnie." I hear a familiar voice.
I don't even have to turn around to know who it is. They are here, my guardian angels, my family. This feeling I'm feeling is a warmth that tells me everything is going to be all right, I feel showered with love and an inner peace that comes along with this feeling.
"We are your family my beautiful girl, we are never too far away from you."
I nod. "Always in my heart." I whisper as a tear slides down my face.
One hour later
After a couple of minutes I let out a shaky breath. My emotions were literally all over the place as the time ticked down and I hated it. This was what I wanted, I wanted to meet with the elders...I wanted to severe my ties with the Salvatore brothers and now it's like my insides were burning up inside. Bottom line, was worried about what would happen to them because of me.
"Bonnie," my mother calls causing me to face her again. "I thought this was what you wanted?" she asked her own green eyes shining back at me with concern. "You seem upset."
It's on the tip of my tongue to say a little white lie but what is the point. I scratch my head. "It's – it's not that, I just wonder what will happen to them?" I look down ashamed. "Which is ludicrous especially since they were planning my demise?" I look up at her with unshed tears in my eyes as the words I've just said sink in all over again. "I know that this, this feeling, this uneasy feeling I have is a result of the freaking sire bond." I pause. "But its still play with my emotions!" I say rattled. The one thing I wanted most aside from the Salvatore brothers as far away from me as possible was for the elders to break the bond that was created among the three of us. The bond made me feel things that I knew I would normally not feel and it was invasive.
When I look up at my mother, her olive green eyes are wide. "Bonnie, what are you talking about? Sire bonds, they don't work on witches!"
I let out a troubled sigh. "I feel connected to them." I say painfully. "The close's thing I could even remotely think is similar is a sire bond." Pause. "It makes me feel sympathy for them, it makes me feel things for them that I know are not my own." I bite my lip. "I think it was to unsure that one day I would fall in love with one of them."
My mother makes a pained sound. "We are going to fix this Bonnie!" she says determined. "But first I need you tell me about it, how long has it been in effect?"
I swallow hard. "I don't know." I say with a shrug because the truth was I couldn't be too sure. Legend had said that on my eighteenth birthday I would be able to connect with the brothers. However, as we all had known they had not answered my call. So who knows when everything finally fell into place. "I can only guess after I met them." I say as I ringed my hands together in a nervous habit.
"We were in the backyard of grams house when I first felt it." I say as my mind travels back to that fateful day. It was Damon whom I had seen first, we had caught eyes and it was like something was immediately in the air.
My mother puts her hand on my shoulder. "Bonnie," she calls causing me to look up. "Who were you with that first day, the one you felt the connection with first?"
I furrowed my brows. "I was with Damon." I say simply.
Mom nods her head. "The original protector of our linage."
I bit back a nasty comment that wanted to break to the surface. "After that, Stefan came and it was like the bond was activated. I felt gratitude for them"
My mother looks distressed before smoothing her face out. "How does this bound work?"
I twist my wedding ring around my finger. "I can't really explain it, but I feel something for them. I feel connected to them." I let out a snort. "Obviously they are not having the same side effects because they wouldn't have betrayed me."
"Hey, hey look at me." My mom calls gathering my cheeks in her hand. "Everything is going to be all right, nothing to get upset over."
It's true what they said mothers always knew what to say especially concerning their children.
I bit my lip. "I'm just so mad at myself and that bond because if it weren't in effect I would've seen who they were sooner rather than later. It clouds my judgement when it comes to the Salvatore brothers and I don't want it anymore!"
My mother smiles and places a kiss to my cheek. "The elders will hear you and help you move forward the way you so desperately want to. You have to believe." She says touching her heart.
"What if it's me?" I ask suddenly. "What if I can't do this?"
"I feel like I've made so many mistakes since coming here." I admit and it's true. I feel like I was thrust into this position and I've just been flying by the seams of my pants. "I trusted the wrong people." I admit, looking down ashamed. "I shared my magic with Stefan." I whisper out. "I channeled with someone hoping to bring him hope and to show him that joy comes after the rain." I shook my head. "And Damon . . . " I couldn't even finish my words because as much as I was repulsed my Stefan, I thought Damon would've been different. He was supposed to be the original protector of the Bennett legacy and he didn't take it seriously until it was too late.
My mother came closer to me. "Bonnie, you've done all you could do where your guardians were concerned. I wish things had happen differently but the path you are on, is still illuminated with light." She says kissing my cheek.
I look down again, not being able to meet her green eyes. I wanted to do this, rule the kingdom, the queendom the best way I could. And I truly believe that if I had people who wanted to work with me, who were eager to fight this fight, we could fix the supernatural world together. But I still feel like, I failed because I was blinded by the Salvatore brothers.
My grandmother sits next to me rest her hand on my shoulder. "It wasn't you who failed it was them." She says as if she had read my mind. "And sometimes people fall short of our hopes and dreams. Other times, people exceed our expectations." She says holding my left hand and winking at me.
A smile came to my lips. She was right! The Salvatore brothers may have fallen short but Klaus had been everything I had needed.
"Bonnie B," my mom calls as she cradles my face. "You my child, have a pure heart, don't let anything or anyone corrode it with darkness. You are our light. The supernatural worlds light. Shine bright my favorite girl."
My grandmother smiles down at me. Her eyes are twinkling my way as she winks at me.
BB-BB
With my confidence restored I'm ready to speak with the elders. It was time to go and I had been stalling long enough. In hindsight, I should've called Klaus to let him know what was going on. I had been so stuck in my own feelings that I didn't even include him in my decision.
"Bonnie are you ready?" My grandmother asked.
I look around the room as my eyes linger on the doorway. I will tell Klaus everything once I'm done. I know he had important business to attend to and it would be selfish of me to want him to hold my hand through this. Finally I look toward my mother and grandmother ready to take the plunge, ready to move forward but something stops me from taking the next step.
Before I can put a finger on what is really holding me back Klaus is standing in front of me, peering down at me as if I'm his whole world. His ocean blue eyes are so expressive so full of concern that I'm taken aback by it.
"Klaus." I gasp out, as he wounds himself around me.
"Bonnie." He calls out lacing our hands together.
"What- what are you doing here?" I asked surprised. "I thought you were out for the day?"
He licks his lips. "I was– but," he stops himself and then further invades her space. "Did you not think I would rush home to be at your side?" he asked open and honest. "I am home because you are my wife and I will stand by you till the end of time."
Overwhelmed with emotion I stand on my tip toes and place a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you Klaus, this means a lot to me."
He smiles and looks down showing those half moons in his cheeks. "You are my wife, and there is nothing I wont do for you."
I nod my head, and look over to my mother and grandmother who are urging me to wrap this thing up. "I have a meeting with elders. I will be home as soon as possible." I say whilst letting his hand go.
I step forward only for Klaus to bring me back to him. "Actually we have a meeting with the elders, love. You are my wife and therefore we are package deal. You're not leaving without me."
Eyes enlarged I look at him like he is crazy. "Klaus?"
"Or me." Melissa steps up.
"I've never met anyone I can't charm." Kol says a grin plastered on his face. "So I'll tag along."
"Don't forget about us!" Marcel says as he and Rebekah who are holding hands step forward.
"What are you guys doing? Have you lost it?" I asked looking around the room mystified.
Klaus smiles and speaks first. "You see love, you are a Mikaelson now and we stick together through thick and thin."
I look over to my grandmother and she nods her head. "Bonnie, are you ready?"
Once again look around the room to see determined faces. It looks like I've found my royal court.
"Yes. Lets go."
