Chapter 19: Take my hand
The idea to go on holiday had been the brain child of Niklaus, who thought it was only fitting for the two of us to disappear after everything that had happen between the Salvatore brothers, the elders and me.
Flashback
Hurt and betrayal had slashed through me like the flashes of lightening in the darkened sky. After everything that had transpired between me and the Salvatore brothers, the only thing I wanted to do was get as far away from them and the ghost they share. Once again I had given too much of myself, shared too much of myself with other people and the result was that they in return all but used that against me. Kol had always told me before, many times before that just because I give everything so freely doesn't mean other people will do the same.
In the background I can hear loud thunder and lighting clapping together. The rain pours down in heavy sleets making it more difficult to drive. I can picture the boats sloshing in the water as my feelings flow out of my like mother nature. The once beautiful day has soon changed as stormy clouds float through the sky, cars are pelted with huge rain drops. The people that had come out to see my coronation are now soaked through, with the rain that mimics my emotions. Echos of the dismay of my people are rattling around the castle.
Anger and humiliation is coursing through my veins, as my head continues to play the last couple of moments on a continuous loop. My hands grip into a fist. I try to wield my anger. The magic that flows through me is getting stronger and with every second and with my emotions being all over the place, its changing the world around me. The last thing I want to do is harm anyone so, I take deep breaths and try to calm myself.
I breathe in and out steady.
After everything, I was finally able to get rid of shady Stefan. I was even lucky enough to be granted a reprieve from the connection that was built with Damon by the elders. You'd think I'd be on cloud nine, wrong! I was still stuck with Damon as my guardian and that was not what I was expecting. I wanted him out of my life for good. I could feel eyes on me, as my father held my hand. I literally was digging my nails into my skin. They didn't understand, it didn't matter to me if Damon hadn't agreed with Stefan. In the end, Damon had no faith in me and in return I had no faith in him.
The elders seemed to have forgotten that I wanted nothing to do with the Salvatore brothers and the destruction that came along with them. It appeared they needed to be reminded because I could not let this go. I couldn't serve the people the way I was born to do, if every other second I was questioning if someone who was meant to protect me was going to stab me in the back.
"I don't understand." I say finally finding my words though it's a whisper among everyone. "I have laid everything on the line! I've been willing and ready to do everything for the crown and my request is denied?" I ask my voice coming out calm though the storm that was brewing inside of me was raging.
What I really wanted to ask was why was I stuck with Damon and he stuck with me? He had shown me his true colors when he dared to act as if I was losing my mind with magic. His flowerily words didn't work on me. They apparently hit the sweet spot for the elders.
William folds his hands in front of him. "You misunderstand us, Bonnie. Our mission is and always will be to protect you and your best interest."
I raise an eyebrow questioning. The fury must read on my face because I watch as the elders look at each other. "And Damon is supposed to be in my best interest?" I ask resisting the urge to scoff. I wasn't the type of person to be rude but right now I was itching to suck my teeth. "He doesn't know if he wants to do what he wants to do or what he's suppose to do." I cry out.
The elders continue to listen though they look conflicted. I can see emotion in their eyes but have no way of knowing if they are really feeling everything I'm trying to convey. I just needed to know why?
"Clearly he's conflicted and not fit for anything concerning me!" I say pointing over at him. "He's failed my family time and time again and yet you give him another chance . . . to fail us all?" I ask to a quiet room.
Stefan sneers. "Oh snap."
I spare him a withering look to which the youngest Salvatore holds his hands up in surrender.
"What's the difference between now and yesterday, or that day before the or the years before that? What makes Damon the exception and this time suppose to be the time he finally does right by my family?" I say turning to Damon. I wanted him to get all of it, if we were going to be stuck together he was going to hear my feelings about the situation and deal.
"The difference." Damon says bringing ice blue eyes my way as he dares to stand in front of me. "Is that I want to do better, I want to protect you." He furrows his brows. "Bon, I'm ready for all of it, all of you...all of our story."
I open my mouth ready and willing words to fly out when my father whispers in my ear to calm down but I can't. I need my voice to be heard because I refuse to be pushed. I lost everything and now I was doing what the elders had wanted, what the prophecy had stated and yet my only request was to rid of me of the Salvatore brothers and instead I'm still stuck with Damon.
I shake my head unimpressed. "Your wants change on a whim. Your true dedication does not. You are not dedicated to the crown or anyone else but yourself, your brother and the woman you shared." I say turning away from him.
He clenches his teeth and his fist while holding back to the urge to lash out. Typically he would have said the most hurtful thing to anyone who hurt him, but he was trying to handle this differently.
Cautiously he gets closer to her. Aware at the anger she harbors for him.
"I may have been reluctant before, maybe I didn't believe it or trust it, but I do now." Damon says reaching out and touching my wrist. "And you do to."
I snatch my hand away from him as the two of us look to the elders for help. "I don't trust you, I won't trust ever again, so you can save this phony act for someone else." I say under my breath so that only Damon can hear.
He nods. "I like a challenge." A smirk forms on his lips until he sees the look the elders are sending his way.
Ignoring Damon all together I look to the elders expectantly as he does the same.
Seconds later, Selene is standing in front of me. Her eyes are soft and her smile is warm. She takes my hands and holds onto them. "You have to trust us, because we know what your future holds."
It's on the tip of my tongue to say something under my breath, and I guess the implication was obvious because soon Asher is speaking.
"Mrs. Salvatore was brought into the mix to fix her broken children. We understand that they have caused you pain and hope that with a mothers touch, they can be who they were suppose to be, play the role they were born to play." Asher says looking from the Mrs. Salvatore to her sons and then finally resting his eyes on me.
Soon Mrs. Salvatore is requesting to speak and the elders grant her permission. I expect her to try and defend her sons to the elders but instead she speaks to me.
"Your majesty, I truly am sorry for what my boys have put you through."
Stefan snorts from across the room.
"I plan to work with them, so they can be all you need and all the crown deserves."
My eyes catch with the woman who shares the same eyes as her sons. She has caramel hair and clear blue eyes similar to Damon. She bows her head and soon finds her spot between her sons.
I don't know what to say, truly. I'm done with this whole situation. But I know that this woman is not to blame for what happened or will happen with her sons. I send her a smile and hope that it looks sincere.
"It's not your fault." I say suddenly to Victoria. By the look on her face she is relieved but something lurks in her eyes that tells me she may blame herself.
I turn my focus now to the elders. "It didn't work out like everyone had thought it would, the prophecy and everything in it about me and the Salvatore brothers was wrong, but it doesn't mean that the rest of it was. We can still save the supernatural world." I admit. "We just have to tweak the way save it."
William smiles. "You are correct and we are already taking measures to ensure that you as our Queen will have everything you need."
At his words I find myself longing to be in the presence of Klaus. Though I had run from him for a very long time, he was the only person who had made everything okay when it wasn't. Before, when I was hurting, he was my outlet. He gave me everything that I needed even when it was just a warm body to take the pain away. And he proved to continue to be someone that I could count on when he saved me all over again. He understood, pain, disappointment, rejection. Klaus understood it all.
"Bonnie, we understand that in our quest for your place in our supernatural world, we forgot one key ingredient that every soul needs." Selene says as her bangles clink together. "And that is your very own angel to protect you."
I furrowed my brows. "What are you talking about?" I ask looking to all the elders. "I thought, I thought I was stuck with Damon?"
Asher speaks. "The Salvatore brothers have Victoria to help them remember the things that fade away. She'll keep them in line."
Selene smiles. "You, of course don't need that kind of guidance. But what you need, what you deserve is perhaps familiarity." She says coyly. "Perhaps the addition of another witch to teach you what you don't know is what you need." Selene says a kind smile on her face. She touches my cheek.
I look back at Klaus and then Melissa before looking to Selene.
She touches my cheek. "We hear your words, heard your cries and have decided that you need a personal witch advisor."
Before I can even open my mouth, the door opens and out steps Lucy, my Lucy! Suddenly I'm overwhelmed with happiness. Finally the elders sent me someone I can trust . . . someone who knew me– the real me. Overwhelmed I hug Selene.
"Thank you so much." I say as tears start to stream down my cheeks.
Although I was surrounded by a lot of people sometimes I felt so alone. And I knew it was the depression talking, that crept up whenever I thought about my past, the things I had done and the way I reacted to things. But it was all me, just bottled up while a smile was placed on my lips.
Selene wipes her own tears. "The pleasure is all ours. You are our hope and as a gift to you, Lucy will be your witch advisor." She says sniffing. "She'll also serve as co-guardian with Mr. Salvatore."
"Thank you Selene, for believing that I could be of help to this wonderful woman next to me." Lucy says with her arm around my shoulders.
Selene holds our hands for a second longer before joining the elders. "You are very welcome Lucy. You have the best interest of our Queen in your heart, and you will make a wonderful guardian."
Lucy grins.
"Oh and Lucy," Asher calls, causing Lucy to send him one of her best man eater looks. "Please try to stay out of trouble. We will expect weekly updates on all matters important to the throne."
Lucy grins like a Cheshire cat and winks over at Asher. I watch as the elder loosens the collar around his neck. Only Lucy can truly bring every man she meets to his knees.
"Aww, Asher I'll miss you too." Lucy says linking arms with me. "But you know, this is my girl, chicks before...well you get the picture " She says as a bubble of laughter flies out my mouth.
End of flashback
True to his word the moment we had arrived home Klaus had gone off to plan our weekend getaway. As for everyone else, they had dispense eager to get back to their own lives. I was appreciative for what everyone had done for me and I hoped one day I could pay them back.
It seemed the Rebekah and Marcel had gone off in search of a good bar. The two of them appeared to be on the path of rekindling a relationship that had obviously still fire. Like I didn't even know the history between the two of them, yet my popcorn was ready to be popped for the moment when it all came to head. They were, what fangirls like me feasted on. The shared looks from across the room, as well as tension that was nail biting. And the looks of what I would imagine true love looks like. I was rooting for them. I was a sucker for a good love story.
I had watched the two of to them leave looking like every bit of the power couple. Rebekah was in the mood to show off Marcel to just about everyone and I had a feeling she was going to walk like she was on a catwalk and hope Marcel was standing at her side. Caroline was going to freak out once she got one look at him. He was so dang good looking. He even got Lucy to blush and never she deterred under a mans stare.
As for Melissa and Kol, it appeared that our time together had been too much for the two of them. I thought they were getting closer to admitting what I had already known. But on the way home Kol would not even spare a glance in her direction. As for Melissa, she had opted to chat with Klaus, the very man she thought was super shady for the longest time. What was even more telling was the fact that once we got home Melissa had opted to running, which years of friendship had told me something had indeed gone down. And if that hadn't been proof enough the curt nod she gave me, which meant (not now) was enough.
Kol, on the other hand had opted to following Lucy and me around like a ghost as I gave her the tour.
"Lucy!" Kol calls causing the two of us to look his way. He had been stalking like nobody else and it was beginning to annoy me, and probably Lucy as well. "It's been so long." The youngest original says as he swirls his drink. "Still got that Mikaelson yearning," pause. "Or is it Salvatore?"
Lucy turns to Kol her eyes show no warmth as she gives a stare that might set him on fire. It happens. I've done it before. "The only yearning I have is to spend time with Bonnie, without you." She says teeth gritted. She looks Kol up and down and then glares his way.
I look between the two, I can't tell if Kol is angry or turned on. What I did know was that he needed to find something to do. I loved him, he was my best friend, but I hadn't been with Lucy is so long. We needed cousin time. His looming presence had only served to dampen Lucy and her mood and I wanted her to be happy here.
When he walks closer to Lucy, I put my hand on his chest wearyingly. "Dude."
Kol chuckles darkly. "I remember now," He says pausing. He completely ignored Bonnie as he kept his eyes trained on Lucy and only Lucy. "You only go for certain vampires, certain Mikaelson's." Kol says getting closer to Lucy. "Or was it the Salvatore brothers." He says flippantly.
"Back off Kol!" Lucy grits out, eyes hard as stone."I still owe you one, and I will get mine." She says causing Kol to take a much needed step back. "You know what they say about payback." She says her voice devoid of emotion.
I watch as Lucy and Kol have a stare off and finally Kol blinks.
He soon turns my way a smile on his face. It's his eyes that leave me startled. It's almost like the life, was drained out of him. When I look between the two, Lucy looks as drained as Kol. I make it a note to find out what exactly is going on or went down between the two of them.
"Kol," I call tugging him away from Lucy.
"Be safe kitten." He says placing a kiss to my forehead.
When he's gone Lucy is running her hands through her hair. She looks ten seconds away from flipping. "Bon, I'm gonna need you to tighten your leash on him because if he gets in my face again it's his ass." she says putting her hair up in a high bun.
Im surprised by her sudden outburst because usually Lucy is calm and cool.
"Lucy! This is his house." I say remind her.
She scuffs. "No! This house belongs to Klaus! Kol is just a freeloader, an interloper that ruins everything around him." She burst. After a few deep breaths and seeing the startled look on her cousins face she speaks again. "Listen," sigh. "I know he's your friend and I get it, believe me I do." Pause. "I have my own issues with Kol and for you I will try to keep my issues separate but he needs to stay far away from me or we are going to have a problem."
I can feel my face fall. Kol was my buddie but Lucy was my family. Maybe time would tell and whatever issue they had would be fixed. However, with the way Lucy was looking and sounding it reminded me of how upset I was at the Salvatore brothers.
"How big of a problem?" I ask as curiosity gets the best of me.
"Worst than fandom wars." Lucy says stone cold.
Mentally I cringe.
"Come on, lets get a drink." I say slinging my arm around her.
BB-LB-BB
After a couple of drinks things were starting to look up. Lucy had shed her angry face and now was just as happy as I was. Though I guess that was the effect of the bourbon not to mention the two shots of tequila we had down earlier.
Lucy and I had much to catch up on, like the weird vibe I got between her and Asher. I thought she was with Sterling? He was, afterall her ride or die they like died together and everything. If that wasn't instant classic, I don't know what was.
"And that concludes the tour." I say giving Lucy a curtsey.
"You are a mess." Lucy says though she's smiling from ear to ear.
I grin. "I'm a hot mess which is better than a mess." I say flinging my hair.
Lucy rolls her eyes as she takes in my own personal sanctuary.
Drink in hand I had towed Lucy around the Mikaelson home which was a feat in its own. The Mikaelson lived like royalty and much of the compound was as grand as the originals whom lived here. However, in an attempt to make me feel more at home here, Klaus had suggested that I take up decorating the place to suite my needs. Of course, it was still a work in progress. I did manage to put my touch in several places. I wanted to add warmth to the otherwise cold home. I also didn't want to feel like I was living in a museum.
"Nice digs, you've certainly added your touch to this place."
I shrug my shoulders. "Yeah well, you know vampires old as time have enough money to buy huge houses." I say plopping down on my bed.
Lucy grins, as she fingers things on my armoire. "You did a good job at bringing you and your legacy to this room. And you brought warmth into this . . . place." Lucy says as she takes in the sights of my room. I had basically taken the clothes of my back when I left home and only the most important things which were everything family oriented.
I take a sip of my drink. Lucy has this look that is telling me she is dying to let loose. I nod my head in direction giving her the okay. I mean we wouldn't be us if I had her hold back whatever was about to spill from her foul mouth. "Don't hold out on me now." I say placing my glass down.
Lucy just grins again. "I'm just trying to figure out how you were able to bring so much warmth into this place. All of the gloom is nearly gone." She snorts as a memory hits her. "I mean all the ancient is practically out of this place."
I snort and laugh. It was true. I was trying to slowly but surly add more up to date things here. It was then that I caught onto, what exactly Lucy had said. "Wait a minute. You've been here before?"
Lucy braces herself. Usually she was better at keeping things hidden but one slip of the tongue could open up a can of worms. Carefully she chose her words. "In another lifetime." Is all she manages to say and by the grace of above Bonnie lets it go.
My eyes study her and I can tell that she's uncomfortable which never happens. It makes me wonder what she's hiding? I want to ask but I just got her back so I wont push for now. "Okay, well you can choose any room you want to stay in." I say cheerily. "As you already know the house has many bedrooms and everyone else is already living here so you'll fit in."
Lucy begins to braid her hair. "I'll think about it."
I give her a look. "Lucy!"
She shrugs. "You know I like my space." She says matter of fact. "Besides my idea of living life again doesn't include living in a house full of everyone." She trails off. What she means is that she can't possibly imagine living in a house with Klaus and Kol. That was not happening. It was nice to Marcel again, Rebekah even, it had been ages. But she also needed her space. She loved Bonnie, but this was what she needed to do. In the end it was a win for everyone, that way if she and Damon needed to connect and talk strategies about anything, they had a home base.
I fold my arms in front of my chest. "Fine whatever. What if I need you for something?" I ask with a pout.
Lucy sits next to me. "All you have to do is call my name and I can appear to you." She says with a grin. "I'll even wear bells."
I grin. "Can I call you Jingles."
Lucy rolls her eyes. "Do what you want." She says just as the door swings open to reveal Kol. I watch as Lucy instantly hardens at the youngest original.
"I'm on my way out kitten. I just wanted you to have fun on your weekend getaway." He smirks. "Full moon is tonight, be safe don't come back p..." before he can finish his words I watch as he holds his head in pain. I know that face I've seen it a million times.
Kol grits his teeth and eyes dart in the direction of Lucy. "Lucinda always a pleasure."
And then he's gone.
Bad blood is obviously lingering between the two and by the looks of it- it isn't going to get better today.
When I look to question Lucy, she flees to my closet to check out what I have stored inside of it. She wrinkles her nose at some of my clothing choices and grins at other selections.
"Lucy?" I ask finally not being able to ignore it. Whatever happen between her and Kol is upsetting to her it's obvious now. She was fine when we were on the isle, but now that I think of it the two hadn't spoken.
Lucy bows her head. "In another lifetime Kol did something . . . he took something from me." Pause. "In this lifetime I'm not over it."
I nod my head, and allow her to pull me over to the closet where she suggests what I should pack for my weekend getaway. All the while my eyes linger on her and the hurt she's trying to hide.

Klaus
Niklaus Mikaelson grinned as he sat back at his desk. He had just gotten off the phone with one of his many contacts and it appeared that he and Bonnie were good to go on this weekend getaway. It seemed like everything was falling into place, which would normally stir up the paranoia inside of him, but not today. He was going to try and take a page out of his beautiful beloveds book and keep it positive.
Flashback
Today not only marked the day they were finally going home. But it also served as the grand finale of his wife coming into the thrown. Elders Isle different activities had been planned before they went back home.
"Are you ready for our latest excursion?" he asked coming to stand in the room and look at her.
One thing he could never get tired of, was walking into a room and seeing his beautiful wife. Never in his entire existence did he believe he would feel a fraction of the way he felt for her and only her. Whenever he was near her it was like he turned into the sappiest man of all time, but it was all true. The one thing he could not lie about, were his feelings for her. It didn't matter if he were angry, hurt, lustful or lost in love, Bonnie . . . she owned him.
Walking further into the room he notices that she's sitting by an open window. Her hair was wild the way he liked it with curls bouncing down her back. The new ombre color of her hair matched with her butterscotch skin glistened in the sun.
When she looks up at him, he has to pause and fight the grin daring to come to his lips.
"All of this, is just bittersweet." She says thoughtfully. "This place has always meant so much to me . . . its spiritual to me."
He comes around and kneels in front of her, noticing the unshed tears glistening in her eyes. With a steady hand he places it over hers. "Then hold onto that. Keep the things you love, close to your heart."
When her lip hitches up and her other hand runs through his hair, he leans into her touch. He knows she's affected by him, could see it the moment he got closer to her. He could sense it all, the acceleration of her heart, dilated pupils, and chocolate chips that begged for kisses.
"It's different for you, being here?" she asks, her voice always a whisper away from seductive, as she continues to run her hand through his hair.
He leans into her touch for only a moment longer before standing. "Yes." He says huskily. "I feel the power, the energy." He says fixing his shirt. "I felt joy watching you last night." He shrugs his shoulders unable to find the right words. This was her paradise, he didn't want to ruin it any further than the Salvatore brothers had done with his pessimistic thoughts.
"But," she asks her tongue wetting her lip.
He inhales sharply."I come from the perspective of the damned." He looks away unable to meet her evergreen eyes. "I– I'm an abomination." He had known that for some time now. Mikael had drilled those words into his head for so many years. It was what his mother had seen whenever she looked at him. Everyone had looked at him that way, until he changed the narrative. Now, people feared him.
She stands now right in front of him, her small hands cradling his face. "Klaus, if you were so damned, you wouldn't be here now."
He chuckles darkly. "I hitched a ride with you." He says scooping her up in his arms.
The delight he feels at her sudden gasp goes straight to his impressive ego that has been begging for her for some time now.
"Or," she says evergreen eyes shining as she looks at him. "Maybe the elders see you when you don't think they do. Maybe they see the good in you that only comes out when you're with the people you love." Pause. "Marcel is your son, you dote over everything he has done and light up like a Christmas tree whenever he is near. You were willing to do whatever it took to mend the heart of your sister who was heartbroken. You also spend countless of nights searching for your brother Elijah."
"Bonnie–"
"Maybe the elders see the man you are becoming instead of the man that you protray."
Before she has time to say another word, his mouth is on hers hot and wanting.
FB-FB
Sometime later they are standing on the brink of Isle, or what one would think was the brink of the isle.
"So what exactly is that?" He asked looking around.
Smile. "It's a place to go to wash away your past, and start anew."
Skeptically he looks around. He's unsure he can do this was so many people around. It feels like eyes are everywhere watching, waiting for him to screw this up and he just might.
He pauses as they walk over a bridge. "And you think this is a good idea?"
She turns to him, fully now, emerald eyes glowing. "Of course." Pause. "I've done some things, thought some things and said lots of things I'm ashamed of." she bites her lip. "I wish I could take back some of those things that haunt me."
He cups her face. "If you're thinking about me, I'm fine. In the end you're mine." He smiles though it seems to bring little joy to her face, to her eyes.
She wipes her eyes. "Its not just you, it's a lot of things I regret doing and saying. The hardest thing is to forgive yourself. Here, we can do that, we can wash it all away." She says placing her hands over his. "We can do this together."
Her hopefulness makes his stomach churn. She's hopelessly hopeful like a child in a toy store. While his broody nature is beginning to rise.
He puts as much distance as his body will allow him. "No, I don't think it's a good idea...not for me."
"Nik." She says surprise on her face. "I know you want this, you want to let it all go!" She says marching over to him. Her hand goes to the back of his head forcing him to look at her.
"I can't." He says pained. He would give her the world, but this is too much! "I meant everything I did! Every person I hurt, I meant it!" He says his voice growing louder with each word. He inches closer with the intent to drive his point across. "I've painted towns and villages red." he says breathing hard. "The only remains being that of my footprints all over the world."
She looks away from him then, her arms crossed in front of her. "I don't want to talk about those things you did. That person was not the one who saved me all those nights ago." Pause. "If you just let him go," she says through gritted teeth.
She's upset, he can see it, feel it but yet she's still trying to convince him and probably herself.
"Why would anyone...let alone you— someone who is treasuring this moment, want me to taint it?" He asks and by the way she looking at him, he knows his eyes are flickering from blue to yellow. "Why would you want me to taint this, for you and everyone else that wishes to clean themselves, to wash away the past?"
She's somber now. "Maybe I wanted you to find peace." She looks around and rubs her arms. "You do what you need to do. I know I can't do this anymore," She bites her lip. "I can't hold onto the anger I feel for the Salvatore brothers, nor can continue to harbor resentment. I have so much inside of me that I need to let go of, to finally surrender it all away." she looks at him now.
She clasp her hands together."I have do what is right for me, and you do what is right for you." she whispers.
He watches as she walks over to him and places a kiss on his cheek before following the guide to the hot springs.
He watches her as she becomes much smaller. She's a brave one, his wife. She is so much better than he is. He carries all the stuff he done to others and what has been done to him. He holds onto his mothers betrayal, his stepfathers hatred for him and all the issues between he and his siblings.
It's all imbedded deep inside of him, the hurt, anger, and lost. The bloodshed, so much bloodshed...all of it is what makes him the man, the myth he is today. All of which he holds onto is what makes him the hybrid whose name is whispered among those who feared him.
When alone he watches as her face displays a glee that he hadn't seen in a long while. It's important to her, he can see it– its written all over her face. She truly believes that this...that doing this will rid of her of everything that plagues her. Looking at her now, he wishes he could be that open, that he could simply just let it all go. However, he is who he is because of his past...he cannot erase it now.
He feels someone come up to him and braces himself for what is to come. He hadn't shared many words with her relatives just enough to tell them, that he had no intention of ever letting her go.
"My daughter is a very perspective young lady." the voice calls. He realizes it belongs to her father. The very same man that had been rooting for Damon Salvatore. "If she invited you to the hot springs, she has a good reason to want you at her side."
He braces both arms on the railing of the bridge. "Its easier said than done." He says sucking in a breath that is not needed. He could, in a sense give Bonnie her every heart desire if she had given him the opportunity. What he couldn't do was change who he was, who he had been. He'd always be the same person but his heart...it belonged to her.
The warlock looks out to the water. "Do you trust your wife?" Was his simply complicated question.
He hesitates. Trust has always been difficult for him. He had lived be the rule Don't Trust Anyone for a long time. It was easier that way– and people hardly trusted him in return.
He hesitates because spilling his personal thoughts is not his style. He had never been the one to just spill his heart out to just anyone.
"She trust you." Once again he looks out to the water. "You have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Bonnie, no matter what she says or does, her heart is always in the right place."
He nodded but said nothing as a swift pat on the shoulder effectively ends the conversation. He's got a witch to speak with.

When he got to her, she was bathed in light. He stops still and just watches her momentarily taking it all in. She paints a beautiful picture.
"I guess you changed your mind?" She asked her perfectly manicured eyebrow raise. "Come on, the water is warm."
He watches curiously for only a second before following her into the water. This may not change him, change the past but at least he was willing to embark on this moment with his wife.
When she smiles at him with her hand out, he knows he's making the right decision. Once her fingers graze his, he realizes he would follow her to the ends of the earth.
He wraps his arms around her, dragging her closer to him. All of his insecurities are showing for her to see. He bares it all for her.
"You know. It's clear out here." She says motioning to vast sky that is a nice hue of blue. "Not a single sound of roaring thunder, or," She pauses and stands on her tip toes to get closer to his ear. "Lightening."
He quirks his lips. "I...suppose not."
Her soothing voice soon starts again and he has to remove his eyes from her mouth.
"It's you and me, letting the water wash away things we never could." Her hand rubs the back of his neck soothingly causing him to lean into her touch.
He opens his mouth to say something, what he isn't particularly sure, all he knows is that she leans up and seals her mouth over his. He pulls her closer now, almost as if she is his second skin.
"We can do this." She says gasping for air. "We can do this together."
He nods his head. "For an eternity." He rasps out.
With his arms wrapped around her, he makes a vow to never let her go.
End of flashback.
Sitting back in his swivel chair, he took a drag out of his cigar. This getaway was the right time to make such a bold move. Bonnie had just become Queen of the Supernatural, and her crowning would be airing this weekend. In addition taking her away would get her as far away from Damon Salvatore as possible. Whenever his beautiful wife was in the presence of Damon, the paramour had managed to mess with her head. Though, the bond was broken, Damon was still one of her guardians and for the benefit of his marriage he wanted Bonnie away from the love sick fool.
This vacation, was going to reset everything. It would be, just the two of them, no Kol or Melissa. Rebekah would be surly trailing after Marcel. And as for Lucy . . . well she would probably deal with her new partner and his brother. He was absolutely positive that neither Salvatore nor Mikaelson was ready for the wrath of Lucy. Sadly he was going to miss it, but he'd hear about it and that was enough for him.
Leaning back, he grinned. The Salvatore didn't stand a chance against Lucy. She was, a witch version of himself, and he had always loved that about her. She had spunk, and heart and she had deserved better. Lucy had deserved better all those years ago and now he had a feeling she was going to make sure this time around things ended on a better note.
A knock on the door followed by shuffled footsteps led him to his brother who was nursing a bottle of rum.
"You look thoughtful, could you be thinking about the weekend getaway you've planned with my best friend." Kol rattles on.
He grins. "You mean the getaway I planned for my wife and me." He says resting his chin in his hands. "Of course."
Kol stumbles and sits down. "You talk to Lucy?" He asks slouching down.
Red lips twitch. He holds his tongue. Nasty vile words are threatening to escape his mouth but he bites it down. Some things should stay in the past. "Not really, she's taken it upon herself to steal my wife."
Kol nods his head. "She still hates me for what I did. She might even hate me more than you."
A slow smile spreads to his lips. "Lets call it a draw. It's different for her. They . . . we had one chance." He pauses again because thinking back to the circumstances of his past is not always easy. They all had done things they weren't proud of. But what Kol had done, it was unforgivable. Kol had managed to sever a family that was hardly together.
What Kol had did, was like a domino effect. Elijah had gone running and hadn't returned since then. Lucy had never been the same. As for him, he nearly lost his mind. Lucy had needed him to feel what she was feeling when in fact he felt nothing at all. As for Elijah, his mask had fallen from his face, never returning.
Kol slips further down in his seat. "I know you still hate me, Elijah does, and so does Lucy." He wipes his eye. "I let my obsession with her, ruin everything..for everyone." Briefly he bites his lip. "Lucy was my best friend. She was everything."
The topic of Lucy was still a hard topic to speak on. Kol had done some serious damage and had stolen from them something that was important.
"You took everything from her!" He reminded his younger brother. "You took it all away from me, from Elijah! But Lucy she suffered the most, you stole her happiness."
Kol nods. "She hates me." Kol admits. "She hasn't told Bonnie, but we both know it's true."
He tilts his head unable to think of the past any longer. It was different for him, Elijah and Lucy. They handled things differently. Of course, he had stuck his brother in a box for many, many years dagger in heart. He wanted Kol to lose something like they had. Lucy was broken and Elijah didn't know how to put the pieces back together. As for him, well he didn't care for the longest time till he cared and that made everything worst.
What he did not want, was for the past to get in the way of his future. Bonnie was everything to him and if he could keep her from all of his past deeds he would.
"Well if it makes you feel better, Bree is still holding a grudge against me and all things our family." He rolls his eyes. "That of course is a shame, but in the end I have Bonnie and all that stuff in the past, it doesn't matter anymore," He looks down at his ring. "I have her, and Elijah has Aya, and Lucy she'll move on to. It'll always hurt but it won't hurt as much because she has Bonnie too."
Kol stands up, too much talk about feelings and whatnot has his head hurting. He can't look at Lucy without feeling it still, the obsession that drove him to do the unthinkable. He had been selfish, jealous that his bestfriend had a life outside of him and because of that he hurt her and a lot of other people. "I'm thinking about leaving," He mutters. "When you all come back from your holiday." He admits. "I can't stay here and look at her." He pauses. "To look at them. I'm afraid that history might repeat itself and I don't want that with Bonnie."
He too stands because as much as he hates to admit it, it could be true. History would not repeat itself with Kol, or with anyone else. "I think that is wise. Lucy will be coming for you, we both know she was never truly avenged."
Kol bites his lips. "If I do go," pause. "When I leave take care of them, of Bonnie and Melissa and Lucy."
He stands next to his brother. "Bonnie loves them, so I will always protect them."
Kol walks to the door.
"Did you love her?" He asks causing Kol to pause.
The original prankster smiles. "Every single one of them." He says with a sad smile. "I'm not going to leave just yet. Just know, that as long as Lucy is here and the ghost of our past is still between all of us, I can't be here in this town, in this state or country."
He walks over to the drink cart and pour himself a drink as he and his brother stand side by side.

The joy ride
He had never been more content in his entire life then he was in this very moment. By his side was his beautiful wife, a sight for sore eyes. They may have started out inconveniently but right now with her by his side, it didn't matter. He had managed to convince his love, to go on a weekend getaway and was determined to make this one of her best weekends yet.
Casting a quick glance her way, he marvels as the wedding ring adorning her ring finger. His sun shaded eyes flicker to her honey-colored skin that is glistening in the sunlight. He can see specks of gold and rose gold throughout every bit of exposed skin. This glow up, as some would call it fits her naturally. She is after all an eternal goddess its only fit that she shows everyone what had always been buried beneath the surface.
"Love, are you starting to have second thoughts?" He asks turning his eyes back to the road. Though he doesn't have to keep an eye on the road, it's a good distraction from Bonnie. She's been biting on her lip and the sight gives him chills. He thinks of the times he was able to cause her to do that, with the mere touch of lips touching.
When she says nothing, he takes the opportunity to lay his hand on the silken skin of her knee which is exposed due to the rip in her white jeans.
My mind had gotten away from me again but the mere touch on my thigh has me nearly jumping out of my seat. When I look over to Klaus, he has a brief smile on his lips. My eyes are shaded by the sunglasses but I'm positive he is aware of how narrowed they are at him.
I had been lost in my own thoughts, which is not unusual. I kept going over everything that had happen with Lucy. The elders had graced me with Lucy as my witch advisor. It was almost like Lucy was my personal angel and I was beyond ecstatic about it. This gave Lucy a second chance at life and it gave me someone I could really trust on my team. However, I was beginning to worry that this may not be what Lucy had wanted. The haunted look that had crept its way into her eyes was something that had never seen with Lucy Bennett. I thought the mansion would be perfect for her, but she seemed to shut down the moment we got home. Further more was tension between her and Kol. Whatever happen between the two of them was bad, really bad and I had a feeling it was going to change a lot of things.
The car came to a smooth halt and noticed that Klaus had literally stopped the car. Behind us, was the black SUV carrying the only security that was coming along with us for this trip. Max and Marco quickly got out of the car but Klaus shook his head causing the security team to fall back.
"What are you doing" I asked surprised by his sudden move. I had never seen Klaus as happy as he was the moment I agreed to go on this trip with him. You could literally see his face light up.
"Love," Klaus calls as he takes off his aviators. Denim blue eyes are imploring. "If you want to turn around, if you want to go back home then," slight pause. He runs his hand through his freshly cut hair. "We'll go back home."
I shake my head. "No." I say interrupting him. "The deer in headlights look is because I'm worried. The elders are probably losing their minds." I remind him. The crown hadn't been on my head for twenty-four hours and already and I was running away. But this time I was just getting peace of mind.
He cracks a grin and leans close. He's trying to read her, see everything she's trying to keep from him. Once satisfied, he speaks again. "Probably so. The elders probably think I've corrupted you." He admits a frown forming on his lips. "Maybe they are right, or maybe they are wrong." he licks his lips and turns in her direction.
I roll my eyes. "I'm not corrupted." I say not surprised by his words. Klaus believes he's probably one of the worst people in the world, but if he had been so bad, then he wouldn't have saved me from that dark place my anger had taken me to. When he says nothing, I grab his chin. "Listen. You haven't corrupted me. In case you've forgotten I make my own decisions and I agreed to go with you on this trip because I wanted to."
A slow smile forms on his lips. "Good because I wanted to be with you to. The elder may have their priority being the supernatural world. While I, I have you."
It was the way his voice had gone soft suddenly that had made the butterflies began to fly in my stomach. His denim blue eyes shone with affection that I had tried to run from so long. I had shut him out for so long, based on everything I thought I needed. Yet Klaus had always been at my side. Sure, he and I didn't always get along but when it came down to it, he always had my back.
I'm afraid to speak, afraid of what might spill out my mouth, so I place my thumb on his bottom lip.
"Are you trying to seduce me love?" He asked before swiping his tongue over the tip of her thumb. While she's distracted he wraps his arms around her.
I shrug my shoulders. "Maybe." I say fixing him with a look.
He licks his lips again. What he wouldn't give to have her right now in this tiny car. They could make it work. It would be like that one time in the tub, without the water and whatnot. "Do you think I'm that easy?" Is what he says instead. They've switched roles now, the cat and mouse game continues to play on.
Brows raised I speak. "Aren't you?" I asked with a slight tilt of the head.
Guys are so easy, tilt your head one way, let a button come undone on your shirt and bam its like they can't control themselves. Klaus is no different. His eyes keep going from my face to the baby blue button down shirt I'm wearing that shows a glimpse of grey bra.
"You know, you still haven't told me much about this trip. Perhaps you'd like to share where we are going and whatnot."
He lets out a loud sigh. "Normally I'd give into anything your heart desires." He says his tone switching to the soft one that likes to coax everything out of me. "But not this time love." He says turning his attention back to the road. "We've got quite a few miles to go, so we should be on our way." He says placing the aviators back on.
My hand runs along his arm. "Klaus."
"Bonnie." he says sternly. He decides to let her go and rest his body against the seat. "Afraid I cant tell you, it's a surprise and all."
Now more than ever I'm intrigued. Klaus usually likes to talk about what he's planned. Now he was tight lipped which was not like him at all. This was the guy who liked to tell his enemies what he was going to do to them before hand.
I grin up at him. "I'm sure I can extract the information out of you." I say slyly.
He adjust in his seat. She sure could extract it all out of him, every last bit of it.
His flushed lips curve into a smile. His brows furrow, as the idea of anyone ever thinking, or suggesting he was ever easy is preposterous. People had said many things about him good and bad, but not a single person had ever said he was easy. Yet, by the twinkling look in sage green eyes, he had an inking his beautiful wife was about to change that. "Give it your best shot."
My eyes dart down to flush lips that are curved into a smirk. How one had such beautiful lips was beyond me. And what was worst was that everytime he spoke I was too busy looking at said lips. Or, thinking about the last time they had touched my skin. after a slight pause I look up to see denim blue eyes flashing with a hint of yellow. Klaus adjust himself in the seat a smirk of my own is now planted onto my lips.
It seems maybe the close quarters are affecting the two of us the same. "Aren't you?"
Klaus tilts his head back and chuckles. "Know one has ever called me easy."
I grin and lean closer. "Well, they aren't me." I admit, causing his laughter to die down. "They've never had you melt in the palm of their hand." I say a sly smile on my lips. My hand brushes against him. He grits his teeth but say nothing. "Those people have never lit something inside of you–that you thought never existed."
He licks his lips. "Whatever, you're trying to do love, it wont work."
I smile at him. "Maybe I'm trying to romance you." I say as my hand trail cradles his cheek and then travels down his neck to rest on his chest. "Or maybe, I'm trying to remind you that one kiss is all it takes." I say surprising him and kissing his chest where a flock of birds flying freely is tattooed beneath his clothes.
He knows what she is doing. Bonnie likes to know things, likes to ask many questions about everything and he had yet to give her any kind of information about this trip. He, realizes that this is driving her crazy and in return she plans to do the same to him. He won't let it go though. This trip is for them, it's a surprise and he will keep the whereabouts close to his heart.
"You are playing a dangerous game." he says as she leans over him again, this time attacking his neck with her lips. He's already pulled the car over when she sits astride him. That cat nap seemed to have worked for her because she's rearing to go and he could never really turn her down.
She's right about him, about her. He'd do anything for her. His wife makes him shiver in the best way. Every single time her mouth touches any part of him he's unglued. Its not just about sex either. The smell of her, the sound of her voice, the blood running through her veins...it's everything about her that he cannot possibly get enough of it. Even the mere touch of her hand onto his, the way she leans into him...it all turns him to jelly.
"So you're trying to seduce the right answers out of me?"
Sitting in his lap I wrap my arms around him. "Possibly, you've given me next to nothing about this trip." I say grinning at him.
The playfulness is in the air because Klaus is grinning just as I am.
"And I don't plan on telling you anything. This is a surprise." He says as his eyes dart all over her face. "Face it, I'm a hard nut to crack and you don't have what it takes in this moment to get me."
A smirk latches onto her heart shaped lips and he finds himself grinning.
"I'll be the judge of that Mr. Mikaelson." I say as my hands plunge into curly blond hair.
"No need." he kissing along her jaw.
He wraps his arms around her waist, bringing her closer to him. His eyes dart down to her cleavage and places a kiss to exposed skin. Her head tilts back stirring him to suck on the flesh that is presented before him. When she arches into him he nearly swears, as a fang his penetrated her silky skin.
Pulling back he looks into her glazed sage eyes and has to trample down his urges.
"Come on, we need to get back on the road and with you distracting me," He pauses as she sucks on his skin. "We'll never get where we need to be."
I pull back to look at him hands cradling his face. "Hey, its okay."
He resists for only a second longer before his mouth takes over hers.

Lucy
Lucy Bennett had been a lot of things in her life but what she had loved most was being a tough chick. And that was exactly why she was currently beating the crap out of a punching bag. Everytime her fist connected with the bag, she imagined Kol and his smug face. Then she hit it again and envisioned Stefan who was about to get her full wrath real soon. And lastly she thought of hear dear friend and all the screw ups he had done.
She wondered how it was so difficult to do the one thing you were suppose to do. How in the world did one suck at the only job they had. Of course, she'd have to ask azure eyes.
Loud music played on her phone as she continues to beat the crap out of the punching bag, this time adding kicks and other techniques she had learned while over the years training. Over the years she had gone to the best trainers to help her become the person she was today. Not only had she been train in the combats of Jiu- Jitsu, Muay Thai, as well as boxing.
Elijah had taught her well when it came to combat. In fact he was well skilled in so many things. He was a man that was a wonder to so many but behind the facade of many masks, just a man.
The feeling of someone close behind caused her to spin around quickly only to run into Marcel.
"I could've snapped your neck." She says to her longtime friend who is only shaking his head at her.
He shrugs his shoulders. "Possibly, but then again, you knew it was me, who else would ever dare to interrupt you in your destroy all mode." Marcel says calmly.
She regarded him with a look.
He could do nothing but smile. "You know, I came here a couple of days ago and found your cousin almost in the same position." He muses.
She takes the water he hands to her. "What can I say, Bennett woman make it a habit to make sure we can take care of our own." Pause. "I thought you were out being shown off by Rebekah." she says before gulping down the rest of the water.
He sits down on the floor of the gym. "I was but then she decided to go shopping and I loathe shopping."
Grin. "You'd do anything for Rebekah, so stop lying to me."
He clicks his tongue. "We thought it might be a good idea to make it back here, in case you know... explosions and all." He trailed off.
She sucked her teeth but said nothing.
"How long have you been down here?"
Joining him on the mat she sits while catching her breath. "Since they left."
"Kol was looking worst for wear, did you tear into him?" He asks because it was well known that the Mikaelson family had a problem with sweeping things under the rug and leaving things left unsaid.
Lucy for her part only sips at another bottle of water. He kept help but let his eyes wonder all over her face. Lucy had always been beautiful, full of life but that spark is still missing from her eyes. She had been one of them, in fact she was still one of them. Time couldn't erase the part she had played in their life, she was family and family was forever.
With an eye roll she gets to her feet and gets into position. If they were going to be talking about something this heavy she needed to be concentrating on something other than this. When Marcel joined her now with his boxing gloves, she was thankful he got the hint.
"I barley said anything to him." She admits dodging one of his fist. "I have no interest in anything Kol Mikaelson related."
When she connects with his face, he knows that a nerve has been struck. "Except for Bonnie."
She hopped back twice as he strikes got closer and closer to her. "B, is my blood. Kol is a leech that I wont let sink his teeth into her." She says with narrowed eyes done with this game. "Bonnie is my priority."
He regards her the heavy breathing the flickering of her eyes. "This is the first time you've ben back here since–" He trails afraid to say the words.
"Yes." She says looking down. She thought about it, all the way home she thought about it. How things had gone so wrong. One minute she was so happy, so in love, so filled with joy and then it was taken away from her by her best friend.
He nods his head. He's assuming she hadn't gone further than Bonnie had taken her. The rooms were probably left untouched and he had a feeling it would all stay that way.
Lucy looks over at him. "She doesn't know, and she never will." pause. "Her trust was already broken before, and I wont let that happen."
He touches her hand. "She won't fault you for anything because it wasn't your fault. You– were and always will be part of this family and maybe sharing your experience will help her in the long run."
She tugs at her braid. "It'll change the way she looks at everything at everyone in this family. Klaus is doing a wonderful job taking care of her, but she needs all of us."
After several minutes in silence he speaks. "He loves her." He admits all the while wiping his stubbled filled jaw. "I've never really seen him like this before. He's in love." he says ignoring the way her heart beat increases. Lucy knows all about a Mikaelson in love and he wonders if that what spiked her heart beat sped up.
Lucy lets out a snort. "To be loved by a Mikaelson, isnt always what its cracked up to be." she says putting distance between the two. "You know as much as I do, what kind of pain comes with this family. I mean," she pauses and bites her lip. "You and Rebekah like have been dancing around each other since the beginning of the nineteenth century and look at you now, still not together." she pauses again and fiddles with her hair. "My situation– was beyond what anyone would have expected."
Now its his turn to look down. "It's different this time, at least for Klaus."
She nods his head. "I know, I just hope she survives better than the rest of us." pause. "I- I love my cousin but she has come off a roller coaster with our dear friend Damon."
"Not to mention shady Stefan." Marcel says matter of fact.
"I want her to be happy." She continues. "I want the same for Klaus as well." She turns away from him now. "He...he loved and her hurt just like we did...like I did."
It was in that moment he decided to change the topic slightly. "They are going to be fine." he says leading her out of the Mikaelson gym.
"Yeah." she says with a smile. "He will protect her with his every being,"
"And love her with all his heart."
She smiles and looks at the time. "Wow I cant believe its so late, thanks for being you Marcel." she says placing a kiss to his cheek. "Now, I hate to hit it and quit it but I have a date with the Salvatore brothers."
As soon as the words have come out of her mouth he can see a change in her. The baggage that comes with this family was no longer taking a toll on her. No this was the spirit of a fighter and boy did the Salvatore brothers have a fight in store for them. Lucy was running on emotion. Being back here, where she had spent so much time had made her emotional earlier and now he was guessing she was just mad.
He grins as heeled footsteps echo in his ear. "Naughty or nice?"
She winks. "Naughty of course."
He chuckles. "Keep it up and your endeavors might just reach Elijah."

Klaus
Nothing felt better than driving his lovely vintage 1964 Coswalt blue/green Jaguar roadster, and his beautiful wife slumbering in the seat next to him. His arm is wrapped around her as he drives with one hand. He knew first hand that whenever his wife was on any kind of voyage she had often fallen asleep.
She's nestled close enough that her head lyes on his arm, causing him to feel a series of flutters in the dead recesses of his heart. That's the Bonnie effect, she has the tendency to make him feel things that were long dead along with his humanity. But somehow, someway this girl wields this power over him that he cannot ignore. With a simple smile he feels like he's on the moon and lets not even get into being close to her. It does something to him, something that is good.
He continues to drive lost in his own thoughts as she snores right along. In the past intimacy had been all about sex. His bedroom antics were legendary, he knew how to make his lover weep with joy. He even had some of the most modest of women begging for more, releasing the inner vixen deep down. He's had romances where deep kisses left a burning sensation...almost like a fever inside of him. He's inflicted the same on others. But nothing could top this.
In this instant where it was only the two of them, and she was resting her head on his arm...that was the intimacy he had craved. And though, he wanted her body, how he longed for the two of them to be entwined hips to hips, mouth to mouth...he was still filled with joy with this bit of closeness he had with her.
The car comes to a smooth halt when they've finally reach the destination. He fights with himself on weather to let her sleep for a few more moments or to wake her up. In the end, he wakes her up with his hot mouth on her skin.
They have reached their destination and now all he had to do was wake up his sleeping beauty. When her breath hitches and sour apple green eyes are blinking back sleep, he's grinning in her face.
"We're here." He says as emerald eyes widen. When she opens her mouth to further question him, he places a silencing kiss to her lips that leave the taste of her all of his mouth.
A.N. 2: i fought with this chapter forever, but in the end I wanted to introduce a backstory of other characters.
spoilers: Klonnie on holiday, Salvatore family and more.
