Jan Brady was sitting at the back of the classroom listening to an extremely interesting (cough, cough!) geometry lesson. She was kicking her desk anxiously because in half an hour, the tryouts for the school's choir were in. She herself had never been amazing at anything imperticular but she was sure she was going to excel in this. She had been waiting for ages for this day to come, nights and nights of endless practising, it was driving the whole house crazy. No one else was going to try out for this except her, her! For once she could show Marcia she could be better in something. She pictured herself singing a solo in front of millions, all cheering loudly for her. She could picture her mum crying such joyful tears. It was like her whole life was just beginning in half an hour.
" Jan Brady," Mr. Hathers, the geometry teacher exclaimed.
" You haven't even started answering the questions on the board, when do you suppose you will be doing that?". Jan turned red. Taking her mind off the choir for a bit - 15 mins till choir! I've been working so hard on this I can't believe the day is here! - Well maybe not !
"Ding Ding"- the bell rang. This meant the end of the day had come - choir! Jan immediately ran out of the room, almost knocking Mr. Hathers over. She ran to the auditorium. In the auditoriam there were girls her age older and younger. I'm brave I can do this! Look, Patricia's in the line to tryout and Hailey is also. Oh no, that can't be, MARCIA!
Jan ran over to her sister.
" Marcia! How come your trying out," Jan asked angrily, this was supposed to be her thing only.
" Jan, you needn't worry. I'm just trying out for the fun of it. You don't really think I'd make it in I mean I didn't even practise!".
"I suppose," Jan said feeling a little better. Jan went to the back of the line waiting for her turn. 5 minutes went. 10 minutes went. Then finally, it was her turn. She walked into the room and in that room sat three people. Mrs. Gordis, a kind drama teacher. Mr. Richards, a mean scary man and Mrs. Jinkins who Jan had never seen.
"All right Jan, lets see how you sing," Mrs. Gordis said. Jan took a deep breath and sang with all her might.
" Good job, Jan," Mrs. Jinkins said. Because Jan was the last one to try out all the other people that tried out were called back in.
" As you know choosing a choir is a hard job," Mr. Richards began.
" Not everyone can be in it. Only 15 of you will be in. We will tell you by Monday who got in and who didn't. That's all for now". Everyone walked out of the auditoriam except Jan, she skipped whole heartedly.
