When Your Body Isn't Your Body

The first thing Regulus realises as he comes to consciousness is that he isn't dead. Kind of obvious, but for him, it is surprising.

He tries to recall what happened, but the memory stays at the very back of his mind, unwilling to allowe him to access it.

"Draco, darling, don't move."

Draco? Regulus wonders. His name isn't Draco. That is one thing he knows with absolute certainty. His name is Regulus.

He tries to move his body. It doesn't work.

What in the world is happening?

"What injuries?" he hears the same voice ask.

"Well, a concussion, and some head injuries, and a small slash on his side, but that's it." another voice answers.

Regulus strains his ears, to better hear what they are talking about.

He inadvertently makes a sound, and suddenly footsteps hurry to his side and soft hands are patting his face. "Draco? Are you awake, my darling?"

Regulus might have lost his memory, but he knows that something here isn't right.

Regulus examines himself in the mirror of the bathroom, and frowns at his own reflection. Except it isn't his.

Blonde hair is smoothed back with what looks like gel, and silver eyes stare back at him. The face has a haughty, proud look to it that Regulus for some reason doesn't like.

He's dressed in tailored black robes that must have cost a fortune. Black shoes with silver buckles stare up at him from his feet.

"Draco? Are you ready yet?"

"No, Mother," Regulus calls back in a voice that is not his.

In the past few days that he has been in this body, he's learned some basic facts about the person who this body belongs to. They are:

1. The person this body belongs to is called 'Draco Lucius Malfoy', which is a name that, in Regulus's opinion, has unnecessary pomp to it. Regulus thinks that he's heard the name Malfoy before, but as usual, he can't remember where.

2. Draco Lucius Malfoy's parents are Lucius Malfoy and Narcissa Black Malfoy. When Regulus first heard the name Black, he recognised it. It pulls at his soul, stirs his mind. But he can't remember, which is quite frustrating.

3. Draco Malfoy is stuck-up. That is the only way Regulus can put it.

Apparently having amnesia helps him, because everyone explains to him what's going on in Draco Malfoy's life, which will make it easier to keep his cover.

Five minutes later, there is a knock on the bathroom door. "Draco?" the voice of Narcissa Black Malfoy calls.

"Yes, Mother?" Regulus calls in a strong voice that portrays strength that he does not feel.

"Are you ready?"

Regulus swallows, and glances at his appearance.

"Yes." he forces out. "I am."

Author's Note: Don't know if this qualifies as 'body-swap'. But I'm just going to use it anyway.
