Do You Remember Me?

The wind whipped her hair, making it fly around her face. With a scowl, she pushed it out of the way and kept walking, giving a sideways glance to a particular man...a prime suspect.

Hermione re-tied her hair in a ponytail, still keeping an eye on the man.

She didn't know exactly how it had happened. One day, Hermione had been resting in her office after solving yet another case. Then a file appeared on her desk and changed everything.

Reports of dead bodies and blood. Lots of blood. A mysterious, secretive killer.

There was no particular pattern about where the killer would strike next, as far as Hermione could figure out. It made her annoyed, because with cases like these, there was nearly always a pattern.

She'd been assigned to the case. You are temporarily relieved of all other duties, she could hear her supervisor say in her head.

This man was a prime suspect. He'd been reported to be lurking around the sites where the killer murdered, but no one knew who he was. The police couldn't arrest him because there was no real evidence that he was the killer, but they were more than a little suspicious of him.

Hermione narrowed her eyes at the man's back.

He was going down.

She'd never failed before.

Then something happened that changed everything.

He turned around, just for a split second.

Chestnut brown met molten silver, and Hermione's heart skipped a beat.

It was him.

She recalled so many memories, from so long ago. Memories that she'd tried to forget.

So many memories.

She wondered if she still loved him - no, she thought. He was a killer. Whatever she'd seen in him before, it wasn't there now.

But still, her heart ached.

She recalled the last thing he'd ever said to her, so long ago.

"I'm going to change the world, Hermione. For you. For me. For everyone. But most of all, for us."

A single word escaped her lips, unbidden.

"Regulus."
