Author's note 1: Metaphors everywhere; probably in the next installments too, but I'll be dropping hints here and then, serving as your guide to the poem. I won't be giving everything away though—let the silence between the lines speak to you... and, a whit of imagination can be helpful too. :)
Ok, do you have a Bible there with you? Pretend it's not a book but a separate world, and its cover a gargantuan door. On this door is an inscription...
the inscription on the door
-
heed, Stranger
afore passing thru,
you will swing me open
and shut me close
for i am a Door
-
afore you
were kings and queens
nobles and commoners
who've swung me open
and shut me close
they walked in
they walked out
minds afilled
with queries
with awe
and sometimes
with defiance
for i
do not adhere
unto
my visitor's likings...
my interior's beauty
lies in you
-
i stood here
afore you came
i am a witness
to
the rise
the fall
of men
of nations
of kingdoms;
of slander
of wickedness
of malice
-
i've been here
been here...
been here
and
always will be
-
heed, Stranger
afore passing thru
you will swing me open
and shut me close
for i am a Door
adhere, i do not
unto
my visitor's likings
for
my interior's beauty
lies in you
-
come, Stranger
but
afore passing thru
take
my word with you...
"Heaven
keeps
no
secrets."

Author's note 2: Churlish criticisms are unacceptable. Civility is highly expected from people who wish to counter anything written herein. I am aware that the Bible is not accepted by all, and my depiction of the book might be of the same light in the eyes of some Christians. My apologies if I am offending somebody out there. I am very thankful, though, for the time you are spending with my writings.
Author's note 3: I am aware too that the word "afilled" does not exist. Minds afilled - Their minds were filled...
