Together

Hogwarts is magnificent, and I marvel at it as I stand outside. Years worth of hard work has finally paid off.

"Rowena?" Helga's voice says softly. I turn to her in surprise. "What are you doing here?" we ask at the same time.

We laugh. "I was just standing outside, looking," I say. "You?"

"I wanted to do the same," Helga says with a shrug. "I think it's amazing."

"The castle?"

"No," she shakes her head. "Working together. The four of us are just so different, but we managed to do it."

"We still need to endure a lot," I remind her. "Eleven-year-olds tend to be slightly cranky."

"Ah, but children are to be cherised, even if they are," she mimics my voice, "slightly cranky."

We laugh. "It's time to head back in," I say. "Godric's probably running around and challenging all the portraits and Salazar to duels. We need to subdue him, quick."

"I think the library needs to be bigger," I say, pointing at a map. "Literature is to be treasured."

"So is duelling," Godric counters. "We need a space for that."

"Ah, but Godric, we already have two places for duelling, do we not?" Salazar cuts in smoothly.

"We do? Where?"

"Your common room," Salazar pauses dramatically, "and your room."

"My - hey! Salazar! Come back here! Or I'll call you Sally for the rest of your life!"

"Are you ready?" I call to Godric, who is hovering high above us on a broom.

"Yep!" he grins.

"Okay." I take a deep, steadying breath. "Three...two...one…"

Four spells come out of our wands, each a different color - blue, green, red, and yellow. They come into contact with each other, and then -

I shield my eyes, motioning for my friends to do the same. Then, suddenly, the explosion stops.

I open my eyes.

There's something different about the castle now, a glowing layer of protection surrounding it.

"We did it," Helga cheers. "We did it together."

This was written for Hogwarts, Assignment 2, and a few other things. Sorry I've been so absent, really. But the plot just hasn't been hitting me. Also, I need to update my trackers (ah...trackers.)
