now i'm perfect

Narcissa Black Malfoy peered at herself in the mirror.

Her blonde hair was tied up in a chignon, and her face was shining, her pale blue eyes standing up. Most would have called her perfection, but Narcissa noticed the little curl that stuck out of her chignon and drew attention in a not-so-perfect way and the fact that her lower lip was not as red as her upper lip. She fixed the curl and applied some more lipstick.

"There," she murmured to herself. "Perfect. Just one little thing."

She unlocked a drawer with her wand and pulled out a beautiful, ornate jewelry box.

Narcissa opened it.

Inside were necklaces laden with jewels, bracelets janging with gems, even hairties with diamond decorations. Narcissa browsed through the jewelry, trying to figure out which would compliment her the most.

Because today was the first ball she would attend as Lady Narcissa Malfoy, instead of Miss Narcissa Black. First impressions were important, and Narcissa wasn't eager to ruin her new family name.

Finally, she plucked out a necklace with a medium-sized ruby dangling from it, tiny emeralds and amethysts lining it. She used her wand to fasten the necklace around her neck.

"Now I'm perfect," Narcissa said as she stood up.

Don't ruin it, she said to herself. Don't ruin it.

"Mother?" Narcissa called. "Mother, I'm ready."

The door opened and Druella Rosier Black glided in. She looked over her daughter and nodded, approval shining in her eyes.

"You look perfect," Narcissa's mother praised. "Like a true Lady Malfoy."

Narcissa smiled coolly. "Thank you, Mother."

"Let us go to the ballroom," Druella held out her hand. "I am sure that you will turn many heads."

"But the only head I will care about is Lucius's."

"Yes," Druella nodded. Narcissa accepted her hand. "Remember, you are Lady Malfoy now."

"I remember, Mother."
