PROLOUGE
Smoke seemed to bellow out of every broken window, choking out the moonlight of the full moon. Chaos and anarchy had erupted minutes after the beastmen forces had broken through the main walls. Explosions shook the city as munition buildings detonated, killing those unfortunate enough to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Some of the older buildings collapsed from the shock of the explosions. The dust flying in the air, mixing with the smoke, making the air thick and nearly impossible to breathe. The glow of the fire was the only source of light for the lone black haired Elvaan woman, but the movement of the flames seemed to distort everything. This citizen that once knew the streets of the city like the back of her hand was now desperately seeking a way out of the inferno that was once the grand Marquisate of Tavnazia.
"Nioro!" She stopped, yelling behind her. "Keep up!" She covered her mouth, coughing violently, as a small red haired Elvaan child turned the corner.
"Mother!" He ran up to her, the glass on the road crunching beneath each of his steps. "I thought I saw Aldo and Emeline. I called for them but they kept on running." He grabbed her hands. "I think they were being chased." He tried to pull her by her hands, trying to get her to go with him. "We have to help them!"
"No," She released herself from his weak grip. "Nioro, but I'm sorry. They may be your friends but you are my child and right now my biggest concern is you and your safety." She knelt, trying to comfort him as she saw the first tears slowly running down his soot covered cheek. "I'm sorry sweetie, I know it seems cold but right now we have no time to worry about others. As for your friends, they may as well be dead because they already are to me and anyone who tries to help them are just looking for an early grave because those two will just slow them down." She turned quickly, pulling her sobbing child into her arms as she began running to the only place she thought it would be safe, the cathedral.
