"Regulus!"

"Lily?"

The figure moves out of the darkness, and another figure meets it. Lily Evans narrows her emerald-green eyes.

"You're late." she says, crossing her arms.

Regulus rolls his eyes. "It's not my fault. My family didn't let me go."

"Same excuse as always."

Regulus huffs. "It's true, not an excuse."

Lily isn't one to let anything go, but she reluctantly drops the topic, knowing that the grey-eyed wizard's words are right. She wonders how she'd fare if she had a family like the Blacks...horribly, she thinks. She's no good at hiding her emotions and lying.

As always, she asks, "What's your life ambition?"

Regulus chuckles. "You're never going to stop asking that, are you?"

Lily smiles faintly. "Of course I'll never stop."

"To live in peace. To make sure everyone is treated as equals. To be with you freely."

The exact same answer as always.

Lily blushes at the last part, as always.

Ambitious. Cunning. Clever.

Traits to describe a Slytherin.

Some people will say that Slytherins are ambitious, yes….their ambition is to erase all impure blood from the world. Cunning, yes...cunning in finding out strategies to kill people. Clever, yes...clever in hiding their tracks.

Regulus's ambitiousness, cunningness, and cleverness are different.

Ever since he was young, ever since he realised that the old Muggleborn prejudice was wrong, he'd longed for freedom. He pitied the Muggleborns that his parents spoke about, who were tortured and killed for entertainment (though Orion and Walburga Black always made it sound innocent, like 'those Mudbloods deserved it').

Trying to take the Death Eaters from the inside does not work. At all.

Maybe Regulus has been a little too ambitious, trying to do that.

(And it is all for Lily, the girl with the emerald eyes, the girl with the burning fire, the girl with so much courage Regulus is the most cowardly of cowards in comparison -)
