December 3rd: Good Deeds
"Hey, Sheriff! I done brought you some oil. You must get thirsty bein' on patrol all day."
"Why, thank you, Mater."
Mater was on a mission. After everyone had written their letters to the Santas the day before, the tow truck was determined to get on the nice list. Instead of going tractor tipping that morning, he had helped Flo clean up after the breakfast rush. Then he had helped Lightning look for his key to the Cozy Cone, which he had misplaced. He had helped Sally get one of the cones ready for some more guests. After that, he had taken some oil to everyone in town, except Fudge, who got a soda (but he had to give it to her secretly because Luigi disapproved of her having all of that sugar).
Sheriff's was the last oil delivery he needed to make, so Mater headed back in the direction of town, wondering what else he could do for someone.
"For the last time, hippie, no!" Sarge's voice boomed throughout the town. "I will never try any of your revolting concoctions!"
"C'mon, man! This one's different! I promise you'll like this one."
"That's what you said about your banana flavour", Sarge reminded him. "And your cherry flavour and your cactus juice flavour. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get to Velo City to do my Christmas shopping." So, he left.
"Hey, Fillmore!" Mater called. "What's that?"
"My new pumpkin spice organic fuel, man", the hippie van answered proudly. "I'm gonna be sellin' it for the rest of December... Wanna try it?"
"Sure!" That was a good deed, right?
The tow truck accepted a can and took a sip. An overpowering pumpkin taste filled his mouth. He liked pumpkin (although, usually when it was in pie form), but this was too much. He swallowed, but that did nothing to get rid of the taste.
Fillmore grinned at him from mirror to broken mirror. "What do you think?"
Mater tried to smile. "It's nice!"
To be polite, he polished off the entire can before driving off. That ought to get him on the nice list, for sure.
"Hey, Mater!" Fudge called, hurrying down the street towards him, soccer ball in hand. The ball was yellow with a red star and a blue ring around it. "Everyone else is busy. D'you wanna play soccer with me?"
Mater grinned. "Sure, Fudge." Playing with his little sister was a much easier and much more fun way of getting on the nice list.
I wished I could've done more with that there, but I didn't have any other ideas. I'm hoping my other ones will be better.
