Merry Christmas Eve Eve! You guys were right! It is the Christmas play now, so lights! Camera! Action!
December 23rd: Christmas Play
It was showtime!
Lightning and Sally were on as Mary and Joseph, pretending to ride a donkey (Luigi and Guido) to Bethlehem.
Sally delivered her first line. "Are we almost there? I'm having the baby soon."
The next line was supposed to be Lightning's, but the race car froze. He had completely forgotten what he was supposed to say!
"Bethlehem is up ahead, honey!" Mater whispered loudly.
Lightning repeated it and everything fell into place. He didn't forget a single line after that. Neither did Sheriff when it was his scene.
Things went smoothly until the angels appeared. Lizzie, Flo and Fudge came up to the "stage" at the front of the drive-in theatre.
"I'm a beautiful angel!" Fudge shouted excitedly. "Oops! I said the wrong words!"
She wasn't supposed to say anything!
Everyone else managed to suppress their laughter. They were laughing because they thought she was cute doing that, but they didn't want the six-year-old to think that they were laughing at her. She was right, though. She was a beautiful angel. She was wearing a white dress with silver sparkles on it (she was supposed to wear the dress to a wedding about a month earlier, but came down with the chicken pox and couldn't go to the wedding) and wings and a halo fashioned from cardboard and gold tinsel.
Red did have a little stage fright, but he was quick to recover as his sheep (Luigi and Guido) led him to the stage. Everyone thought it was an amusing sight, a shepherd being led by his sheep instead of vice versa.
As Red and Fillmore were trying to get through their scene, something pretty scary happened. The doll playing Jesus (which had once belonged to the Donovans and was deemed in too poor condition to be donated to the toy drive) started wailing. What was creepy was that the doll didn't have any batteries in it! Everyone froze, horrified, for a moment. Doc chuckled at their reactions.
During the wise man scene, the star was suspended above from a wire again.
"Look at that star!" Mater cried, pointing.
Only this time, when he pointed, he knocked the star off the wire. They all laughed.
"Well, now, where are we supposed to go?!" Ramone demanded.
Sarge picked the star up, turning it. "I think we can use it as a compass."
The others practically died laughing. Doc nearly dropped the camera!
After that, there were no mishaps. They got through the entire performance and the finale of everyone, including Doc, singing "Silent Night."
"Cut!" Doc announced, shutting off the camera. "That's a wrap! You were excellent, every single one of you."
"Did you get it all?" Mater asked hopefully.
"All of it", Doc confirmed. "I'll make copies for everyone to send to whomever they want, plus a couple of extra ones for us."
"Yeah, next year, we can make popcorn and watch it!" Ramone suggested.
"But, for now, to celebrate the success of our play, I've got a very special treat for you all at my café", Flo announced. "A cast party with sandwiches, mini-pizzas, Christmas cupcakes and candy canes."
The rest of them cheered.
"Let's eat!" Mater hollered, leading the way over to Flo's.
"I told you we'd get it done, buddy!" Lightning reminded him with a smile.
"That was, without a doubt, the funniest play I've ever seen in my life", Doc declared, and he meant it.
Apparently, the "I'm a beautiful angel" thing is something I did in a school Christmas play, but I don't remember it. XD
I hope you enjoyed. I had fun thinking of all the little mishaps that could occur during both the rehearsal and final performance. Please review! :)
