Alec awoke abruptly from his comfortable sleep by a loud crash. He flew out of the bed reaching for his seraph blade but found himself grabbing air. In confusion he abandoned his attempt at arming himself and ran, disoriented, toward the sound. Opening the door, he stopped dead.
Before him stood a tall man, wearing nothing but a pair of rainbow briefs and a green velvet robe swinging open.
"Magnus…" Alec breathed realising why his blade had not been by the bed – it was not his bed he had woken up in.
Magnus lifted his gaze and his face fell into a gorgeous, crooked grin, teeth shining white.
"Alexander, my dear. I didn't mean to wake you, I…" He looked down at his feet where a frying pan lay in a puddle of half cooked eggs. "Well, I meant to cook you breakfast… I wanted to do it by hand, more intimate, but alas, as you can see… That is not my strong suit."
With a quick flick of his wrist the mess was cleaned up and a perfect steaming omelette lay in the pan on the stove. Alec let out a short laugh as he watched the warlock do his magic.
Magnus stepped towards him and let his long arms wrap around his shirt clad body.
"Good morning, tousle." Magnus smiled and ran his fingers through Alec's messy morning hair.
"Mornin'." He answered groggily. Alec wanted to do the same motion to Magnus' hair but didn't want to ruin the perfect spikes that somehow stood proudly even though they'd been slept on.
Magnus noted the other man's gaze and snickered. He let go of Alec and slowly dragged his hands over his own head, the spikes folding to his will and falling flatly. Alec smiled broadly and tried to tousle Magnus' now flat hair, to match his own, but he failed no matter how much he tried. The hair fell back into a neat, flat shape, as if they'd been untouched.
"That's cheating!" He blurted out in frustration making Magnus laugh.
"It's called magic." The warlock countered as he leaned in and kissed Alec gently. "Did you sleep well?"
"I can't remember the last time I slept through a whole night. I'm always waking up from bad dreams, ready to fight whatever it is that's attacking someone I love but now…" He looked at Magnus. "I can't remember having had a single bad dream."
Magnus smiled approvingly and rested his cheek against Alec's.
"You looked very calm, throughout the whole night really."
Alec took a step back and met the warlock's yellow eyes.
"Wait, you haven't slept?"
Magnus shrugged.
"It seems this night was unusual for the both of us. I usually sleep way more than I have to, simply 'cause I enjoy it so much, but last night no sleep took me away. I just did not want to leave the moment just yet." He took a slow breath, meeting Alec's gaze. "I have waited all my life for you, and there you were, snuggled up against my chest, breathing calmly."
Alec stood for several moments without moving, staring blindly at the taller man. Magnus said nothing more, but smiled and waited, letting the words sink in.
"You…" Alec started, hesitating. Magnus raised his eyebrows and smiled encouragingly. "You have waited for… me?"
Magnus chuckled deeply and nodded.
"But then you've been waiting for…"
"For 400 years, correct." Magnus finished confidently, snickering.
Alec stood quiet for several more moments before finding his voice again.
"How did you know that you waited for me, out of all people, there are so many people, how did you kn…"
Magnus interrupted his rambling with a soft kiss. Alec felt his shoulders sink down as his body relaxed again. He hadn't even noticed that he had tensed up.
"I didn't know, Alexander, that it was you. Not until that very moment last night. But as you fell asleep, your arm wrapped around me, it dawned on me. It is you. It has always been you and will always be you. My heart is yours, Alexander."
