Chronicles of Shivaroku: Part 1
The Boy with the Tail
The Shinobi world was divided into 5 great nations: The Land of Fire, The Land of Water, The Land of Earth, The Land of Wind, and The Land of Lightning. There were a few other neutral smaller nations as well, but none of them pledging allegiance to any of the five great nations. With the Land of Fire being the strongest of all because of the military might of the Hidden Leaf Village, mother nature threw the nine-tailed fox at them, just at it threw the other tailed-beasts at the other nations. We all know of how the nine-tailed demon fox was sealed inside Naruto as a child, but this is not his story. This is a story of another boy, one who was actually born with a tail, but nonetheless one that looked like a human. His name was Shivaroku.
Shivaroku was actually not human. He was an alien child sent to planet Earth in a pod. Sent by the Saiyan race from the now-destroyed planet Vegeta, Shivaroku's path was to grow up strong and one day conquer the planet. That would have happened, if it weren't for old man Gohan finding him in the woods. Old man Gohan raised Shivaroku to be a strong but kind boy, one who would always act with good intentions and help people, never act with hatred or evil. In the Shinobi world, hatred was almost always a driving force, which was why everyone was so divided and why so many Great Wars occurred. Old man Gohan wanted to make sure at least one child would grow up to become a shinobi who used love rather than hate. At the same time, a divided, war-ridden world meant Shivaroku had to learn how to fight and survive, so Gohan taught him just that. From the day Shivaroku could walk until about 8 years old, Gohan trained Shivaroku to fight, survive in the woods, be one with nature, and to be kind. However, Shivaroku made one big mistake…he trained under a full moon.
The Saiyans are known to have a frightening transformation whenever a full moon is present. They become giant apes, towering at 5 or 6 stories tall. It was called the oozaru transformation. Now adults would normally have at least some control of their oozaru state, but children, especially one who has never gotten any formal training from a Saiyan, had no control whatsoever. In his rampage, Oozaru Shivaroku trampled Gohan to death. As the full moon faded, Shivaroku reverted back to his normal child self, but he was knocked out for the next 2 days. When he came to, a short, bald old man, with a long white beard and a turtle shell on his back was carrying him.
"Where am I? Who are you? Where's my Grandpa Gohan?!" Shivaroku asked the old man frantically, as he left leapt down and took on a fighting stance.
"Listen to me child. First you must calm down, because what I am about to tell you will hurt," said the bald old man.
"I don't care, just tell me what's going on. Last thing I remember I was training with my Grandpa Gohan and everything went dark," said Shivaroku.
"Yes, I will tell you what happened afterwards. But please take a seat and listen carefully."
Shivaroku had no choice but to sit down. He didn't want to attack such a sweet looking old man (yeah sweet alright).
The old man started, "First of all, my name is Roshi, also known as the Turtle Sage. I was actually Gohan's teacher!"
"Wow my Grandpa's teacher? You must be really strong then!"
"Yes I guess you can say that I am strong, haha!"
"Yeah okay keep going, where's my Grandpa now?"
"Your grandpa…unfortunately is no more."
Shivaroku's face turned from quizzical to shocked as he stood up in complete dread, tears slowly forming in his eyes. "W-What? How is that possible? He's too strong! YOU'RE LYING!"
"I do not lie, young one. The fact is your grandpa met his end while trying to protect you. A giant beast was rampaging and Gohan sacrificed himself to save you. He sent me a message to come get you, but I was too late to save him. Before his soul ascended, he made me promise him one thing. To train you, to make you into one of the best shinobi and best person this world has ever seen."
Shivaroku still crying, looked up at Roshi. "I can't believe it…I can't believe he's actually gone."
"Listen to me young one, your grandpa had full faith in you. He loved you dearly. You were the first person he has actually loved since the day his wife passed away. For the sake of his memory, become my student. Honor him by making the world better. One that is not ruled by hate. One that is ruled by love and peace."
Shivaroku wiped away the tears from his face and gave Roshi a look of determination. He spoke, "For my Grandpa…I will do whatever it takes to honor him."
Roshi smiled and helped the boy up. "Well then, we should get started right away. Let me take you to my home. I will teach you the ways of the Shinobi."
From that point on, Turtle Sage Roshi took on Shivaroku as his student and trained him. In the course of four years, Shivaroku and Roshi went on many adventures, meeting all sorts of great people, as Shivaroku honed his skills. The first thing he learned was chakra control. It was an arduous process, but it was a definite necessity in the Shinobi world. During the way, he improved his fighting skills, learning the art of deception, taijutsu, as well as battle tactics. Roshi always made one thing clear to Shivaroku. It was that while the end goal is peace, love, and unity among the people of the Shinobi world, one must always train and hone one's skills if an enemy fueled by hatred and evil should ever appear. "There is always going to be someone stronger. Never stop in your quest to become the best. At the same time, never forget yourself in the path to power."
Unfortunately, during the training, Shivaroku trained under a full moon twice and transformed into an Oozaru. Just like the first time, he had no control and was on a rampage. However, Roshi was able to contain the beast both times, understanding that the transformation occurred because of the full moon, and Shivaroku's tail was the reason. After the 3rd rampage, Roshi cut off Shivaroku's tail, and when Shivaroku asked why he did it, Roshi had to lie and said that it was a hindrance, similar to having long hair in a battle. Roshi could never tell Shivaroku that the oozaru transformation was responsible for Gohan's death, for it would utterly devastate him and would send him on a path that would end in destruction.
Shivaroku also learns that his chakra nature was fire. But while also learning fire-style jutsus, he learns Earth style and attempts to learn wind-style. Unfortunately wind style was not possible for him…yet. He also learns Roshi's signature move, the Kamehameha. The Kamehameha was pure chakra, infused with fire style, making it a blast of hot energy. It was an utterly devastating move, but one that would be very helpful in battle. During the four long years of training, Shivaroku also entered a few martial arts tournaments. Although they barred Shinobi, he was allowed to enter since he wasn't actually a Shinobi at all. He won all of them of course, since his opponents were either frauds or weak, and he won lots of prize money, making him a multi-millionaire. The money and winning never went to his head, thankfully, but at least Shivaroku never had to really worry about money.
