"I don't wanna go to bed..." Ethan whined, trudging up the steps to bed as if he were being marched to the electric chair. "I wanna stay up to midnight!"
"It is midnight," Alex said, showing him her watch. (Her watch that she'd set three hours ahead because she knew Ethan would be an absolute grizzly bear if she really allowed him to stay awake that late.)
"But..." he started to protest.
Emily interjected, "And Hank is already in bed, so it's only fair."
Alex nodded her agreement. "That's right. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander."
Ethan shot her an unimpressed look. "I dunno what that means."
"It means what's fair for one person is fair for the other as well," she explained.
Ethan sighed dramatically. "But why don't you hafta go to bed too?"
"Because we're grown ups," Alex said, "And we're not going to be having fun."
"That's right," Emily agreed, "And we'll be going to bed soon anyways, since it's so late."
Ethan paused. "Really?"
She nodded. "It's important to get at least seven hours of sleep a night so your body has time to rest. And you need even more sleep because you're still growing – your body releases most of its growth hormone while you sleep, so if you want to be tall like Derek, you should sleep a lot!"
That had Ethan's attention... "I didn't know that," he said.
"It's true," Emily said. "So, are you going to go to bed?"
He nodded. Then, he paused. "But can I still have a story?"
Emily hummed a thoughtful note, then ruffled his messy hair. "Of course, you can have a story."
As Alex shut the door behind them as they left Ethan to fall asleep, she grabbed Emily's wrist, pulling her back to her before she could get too far away. She leaned in to kiss her gently. "Thank you," she whispered against her lips.
"For what?" Emily asked, little smile playing about her lips.
"For being so good with him," she said. "You're a natural mother."
Emily laughed a little. "I don't know about that..."
"I do," Alex insisted. Shutting Emily's bedroom door as she followed her into the room. She watched as Emily slipped out of her robe, draping it over a nearby chair. "In fact..." she continued, following after Emily, resting her hands on her hips, fingers bunching up the silky fabric of her nightgown. "It would be a shame to let your talents go to waste."
Emily raised a brow, leaning back against Alex's chest. "And what does that mean?"
She hummed softly, letting a hand slide along her thigh until she reached the bottom hem of her nightgown, at which point she began dragging her palm back up her thigh, baring her skin as she went. "Want to have a baby with me?"
Emily gasped sharply, though it could just as easily have been from her wandering hand as from the words themselves. "You want to have a kid?"
"Mm-hmm." She began kissing along her neck. "You can be a real Momily..."
Emily giggled softly. "Momily... I like that."
"Is that a yes?" Alex asked, nipping at her pulse point.
"How about it's a 'we'll think about it'?"
Alex grinned into her neck, knowing she was winning her over. "I can live with that."
