Attacked-Ch 3
Once the ambulance arrived at the hospital Derek jumped out and stood watching as several doctors and nurses ran from the hospital to the back of the ambulance. He watched as they gently unloaded her from the back of the ambulance and got her inside as quickly as humanly possible, Derek ran in right behind them but was stopped by one of the nurses.
He looked at her and said, "please let me go with her, she's so scared, she was so scared after what happened to her, please don't leave her alone". The nurse said, "sir, I need you to calm down, I promise you that we are going to do everything we can for her and when we get her stable and find out what we need to do next, then you will get to see her again".
Derek nodded his head and she said, "I need to ask you a few questions about your friend, okay"?, Derek said, "okay, okay" and he stood there answering everything that he could about his baby girl. When the rest of the team arrived they flashed their badges and informed them that Penelope was one of them and that they wanted to be in the back with her.
They were quickly escorted to the back and were allowed to stand with Derek, Hotch pulled him aside and ask him to please repeat everything to him that had happened from the time he arrived at Penelopes apartment building, Derek blew out a deep breath and then slowly told him everything that he could remember.
JJ was finishing Penelopes paperwork and she looked at the nurse and said, "you are going to need to run a rape kit on Penelope", the nurse nodded her head sadly and then said, "excuse me and I'll go check on your friend for you, okay"?, Emily said, "yes, thank you" and then they watched as the nurse disappeared into the room where they were working on Penelope.
She returned a few minutes later and said, "the doctors are getting ready to take her down to surgery but you are allowed to see her for just a minute first". Derek looked at the nurse and said, "was she, was she"?, the nurse looked at him and said, "sadly yes, your friend was sexually assaulted", Derek ran his hand over his head and then turned around and headed down the hall to join his baby girl in her cubicle.
Hotch walked over and said, "excuse me but can you please tell me about her injuries"?, the nurse said, "of course sir, she was stabbed a total of 8 times, 5 times to the stomach and the other 3 to the chest, their was quite a bit of damage done during the assault and one of her lungs has collapsed and she has a concussion do from probably hitting a bed frame or headboard or something of that nature, we were able to get the wood out of her hair and scalp".
JJ said, "and you are positive that she was raped"?, the nurse said, "yes, he was very brutal during the rape, their was ripping and tearing and she's lost a lot of blood". Reid said, "so what is going to happen during the surgery"?, the nurse said, "we are going to see how much damage was done to her chest and stomach, we are going to have to try to re-inflate her lung so she will be put on the ventilator during and after her surgery to help her breathe while she recovers".
Meanwhile inside Penelopes cubicle Derek put her hand in his and said, "ohhhh sweetness, I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to stop this from happening to you but I promise you that I will find whoever did this and I will make them pay", the doctor then said, "I'm sorry but we really need to get her to surgery now".
Derek said, "how long will the surgery take"?, the doctor said, "I'd say at least 5 or 6 hours and if I can I will keep you updated" and Derek said, "thank you me and the rest of her family appreciate that". Derek then leaned over and kissed Penelope gently on the lips and said, "I love you and I'll be waiting on you when you are out of surgery".
He then stepped out into the hall with the others and they all watched as her bed was pushed from the room and then headed down the hall where it disappeared through a set of double doors. Derek stood watching as the doors closed, he then looked at his family and said, "let's catch this sick bastard and make him pay for what he's done to her".
Dave said, "don't worry he'll pay, he'll pay", Derek looked up when he heard his name being called, Fran had been at home when Dave called her to inform her about what had happened. She ran to her son and he collapsed into her arms crying, she ran her hands up and down his back and just held him as he kept saying over and over, "I can't lose her, I can't lose her".
The teams hearts were shattered as they watched one of the bravest and toughest men they had ever known break down in his mothers arms. Hotch looked at Dave and said, "we need to start looking at video footage of the area and see if we can catch a glimpse of this bastard", Dave and the others nodded their heads as they all pulled out their cells and started making calls.
They needed to find the man that had done this to Penelope and they needed to find him fast and Lord help him if Derek found him first because they had no doubt that he would kill the man that had dared hurt his baby girl.
