A.N.: I must admit, it cost me to make this chapter. But I'm back better than ever. For those who don't know, on my instagram thashipdump I've been posting more KND drawings and I have a preorder for a Wally and Kuki keychain, go check it out before reading this chapter and leave likes on my ugly little drawings xD I'll probably draw more KND stuff of this fanfic in the next few weeks so stay tuned on that account. By the way, I don't know how long this fanfic will be, I haven't thought of an ending xD. I accept suggestions in the comments.
She watched her hands, they were very still. Her tremors had stopped, however, her mind was working a thousand miles an hour and she had trouble sleeping. Under her eyes you could already see dark circles due to lack of sleep and too much worry. If only she could be more like Hoagie, he was calm despite the circumstances. But still, he always made her uneasy whenever he was taken away and she was left alone in those cells.
Again that noise of someone breaking into the place. She again sees that shadow that it was no longer difficult for her to identify. Again the Wallabee Beatles face. She didn't understand why, but it was the fourth day in a row that he was going to see her while Hoagie took him away to do who knows what. Not even his friend was sure what they were doing with him, and he didn't even care anymore. Little by little he was losing faith. But Kuki didn't want to give up. Somehow they will find a way out of this horrible place.
Wally looked at Kuki, who was still sitting on the floor, she didn't even flinch anymore when he went to see her. He somehow became a constant presence and she stopped being afraid of him. The boy watched her in silence and Kuki tried by all means to ignore her penetrating gaze, as if he could read her mind, as if he would discover something new about her by looking at her so intensely. But nothing happened, it was always very quiet. He would arrive, look at her, say meaningless things after a while, and then leave. Why did he have to come back every day? And more importantly, why did he only go when she was alone? He was acting like a complete pervert.
"Are you going to stay there all the time without doing anything or are you going to say why you're here?" asked Kuki, staring at the ground. She didn't expect to have a nice conversation with the boy but she was getting mad that he was there without saying anything. So much silence made her think about many things and only caused her more anxiety.
"I don't have to answer you," Wally said sharply.
"But you already did," she looked up and met Wally's eyes, "Since it seems like you'll come every day, at least tell me if it's raining outside or not."
"I don't come every day," he protested.
"You haven't missed a day since you came here, what's your problem with me?" She sighed before continuing annoyed, "Don't you have to be in class now?"
"I already did what I had to do, I don't understand why women have to insist so much with school," he said, remembering the scolding of her mother who complained about his poor school performance.
Kuki carefully got up from the ground and leaned against the bars of her cell, coming face to face with the boy. Her heart skipped a beat and suddenly she wanted to cry because she had the boy of her dreams close by but really he was behaving like a jerk, not to mention that he had her locked up there and she still didn't know why, maybe today she could make some kind of progress.
"Why am I here?" she asked seriously and without blinking.
"I shouldn't tell you."
"I don't understand, I don't know how long it's been but Hoagie and I are still here and I have to assume that there are more people here" due to Wally's silence the girl could deduce that she was right, they weren't the only prisoners.
"I... I don't know what I'm doing here," the boy looked down as his mind became like a whirlpool. Lately, after visiting Kuki, he remembered things that didn't make sense to him and felt things that he couldn't understand, that's why he came back every day, looking for an answer or a clue that would tell him what was going on with his mind.
"Wally," she called him by her name, hoping to see some reaction from him, but he didn't even flinch, "Wally, look at me," the girl demanded, and a few moments later, Wally looked up, staying very close to her, "Why are you doing this? I… I know you. You are not like that."
"You're wrong," he answered hoarsely, "You don't know me, you think you do, but that version of me is already dead."
"What do you mean with that?"
"Do you really want me to answer you?" The girl did not look away, in fact, he was fascinated that the girl challenged him, if it were someone else she would have already given up "I was wrong, but they taught me what is right and I owe everything to that person."
"Who are you talking about?" She was very confused. It was when she realized that there was someone else behind all this, someone who was superior to Wally and she was relieved that he wasn't the master behind all this, but she was still impatient that he was involved.
"You don't need to know a name."
"So, because of that person we are here?" She clung to the bars, getting closer to Wally's face but he didn't move an inch, "Please tell me."
His body felt strange, his mind wasn't quite right. Having Kuki so close to her gave him feelings that he didn't know how to explain, and yet there he was, coming back to her every day. He was lost in her dark eyes and as her hair fell over her face, he wanted so much to touch her, hug her, press her against her chest but that would go against the rules. He couldn't afford to be weak.
"I'm going to tell you so you stop asking so many questions, besides, your memory will be erased once they're done with you," the girl swallowed when she heard him, she didn't expect him to want to please her today. Wally let go of the cell bars and started pacing back and forth until he finally stopped.
"You and your friend are here because you belonged to a fucking organization full of lies when you were kids."
"What are you talking about?"
"Many children manage to belong to a secret organization called the Kids Next Door and if you ask me they are some damn brats with nothing to do at home and instead of helping other children as they say, the only thing they do is cheat and trample on anyone who thinks differently.
"What? B-but, but that's impossible, I don't…"
"You don't remember, do you?" he interrupted her. Her gaze turned cold. He no longer looked at her the same way, it was as if Wally had changed into another personality. "The bastards erase their memories when they no longer need them to get rid of them, especially when they consider them dangerous or know too much about the organization."
"And you say I was part of that?"
"Yes"
"And what are you doing here?" asked the girl suddenly, "If you're here, it means that you are too."
"Ha, don't make me laugh. Was I part of those brats? I don't believe it."
"You just said they wipe your memory when they no longer need you. What makes you think you weren't a part of it? Wally, you were a kid once."
"No! Don't continue with that stupid things!" Wally began to shout and grabbed his head due to a sudden dizziness that suddenly attacked him "I never... never... it can't be" the boy ran towards the exit leaving the girl dismayed with the situation.
When she realized that Wally wasn't coming back, Kuki lay down heavily on her bed. She let out a frustrated sigh and began to mentally review the information she had managed to get. Both she and Hoagie were part of an organization and now they can't remember it anymore. They are there because they were part of it and she was sure that Wally was too, after all, he was there too, but everything about him seemed so distant from the person she had fallen in love with more than a year ago. .
"I just want you to come back," she spoke to herself looking at the ceiling.
Wally rushed out of the room with a terrible headache. Something inside of him wasn't right and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember and find himself. Kuki had told him that it was likely that he had also been part of KND in his childhood and that could explain why he lately tried to remember his childhood in a deeper way but no matter how hard he tried he could not get anything, as if he was in white. Was it even possible, and if so, how did he get there and become a leader? He needed answers, and fast.
The five brothers arrived from high school and went to their father's study to announce their welcome as usual. The place where Father worked hadn't changed much since the last time a child was in his mansion. He now had more shelves full of briefcases with important documents. Because he lost power among the villains, if it wasn't for his business that he had done in recent years he would have lost the mansion and with that his livelihood to support his luxuries and his children.
They knocked on the door and upon hearing the order that allowed them to enter, they opened the door and saw Father signing a whole stack of business papers.
"Oh my dear children, good to see you, how was school today?" he said in a good mood. Actually, since he no longer made evil plans against KND, he was now able to relax more and focus more on his business and taking care of his children. He was wearing a red coat with a white bow on his neck; he had stopped wearing his Black Suit since he stopped being the leader of the villains.
"Father, we're not kids anymore, we're already in high school," answered Bruce, smoothing his shirt.
"You may be adults but I will always see you as my little ones" he took a stack of papers and put them aside "You have arrived at a good time, next weekend I have to travel to London for some important meetings and if we manage to get it I think I could even buy a car for each one" He laughed imagining his children with their own independent cars.
"Is the deal with the Amber Capital company then already a done deal? " Lenny asked, taking off his football helmet, that whenever he could, he wore it.
"But of course it is," David added, approaching Father's desk and taking some papers that he began to review.
Father watched David and Lenny exchanging opinions about his business and that makes him very proud, knowing that at least two of his children were interested in the family business and were very interested in it. Bruce sometimes contributed but he had more of a leadership attitude, it was more like saying if something was going in the right direction or not, but he wasn't part of the heavy lifting like his other siblings were. Constance would review the accounting reports sometimes but wouldn't comment unless she found a mistake and Ashley, well, she made sure her siblings didn't get in trouble and was always on top of all the school gossip.
"Father, if you'll excuse us," Ashley said, drawing everyone's attention, "We just stopped by to say hello and wish you a good day.I think my brothers and I are going to have a snack" she glared at her brothers and they nodded along with the flow.
"Of course, go, tell Natasha to prepare a good snack for you," he waved his hand and let them go. As their economic situation was improving, more employees were hired at the house.
Once they were all sitting down eating a delicious snack, Bruce was the first to speak as they expected the servants to leave them alone to talk without anyone listening.
"Judging by your look I can deduce that you have some plan in mind, or am I wrong?" Bruce asked the blonde.
"Clearly Father must not know Nigel's back yet, we don't know what action he'll take and we already know how inpatient he gets with the Kids Next Door business."
"I agree with you little sister," Lenny crossed her arms, nodding her head, "But if our Uncle Monty decides to visit us or call, it's not something we can avoid."
"Then Father is going to be mad at us," murmured Constance as she played with her food.
"We can tell him we missed it or something, you know the classes, the clubs, the games, the piano lessons…" Ashley commented.
"Don't even remind me," interrupted Bruce. "In all of this, does Nigel know who we are?"
"I'm not sure, I've been watching him for days and everything seems so normal about him."
"It could be that he doesn't remember anything or he really plays the role of his spy well," added David thoughtfully.
"But whose side will he be on? I mean, will he be with those hateful Kids Next Door or do you think he's already joined the teen ninjas?" Bruce asked his brothers but neither said anything.
"Well, let's hope he hasn't joined them, we need him. That damn Cree has to pay for everything she's done to this family," Ashley said with a very serious look. "That's why we're having a party at the mansion on the weekend when Father isn't home."
"Are you crazy?" Constance was alarmed. "If she finds out she will punish us like that time where Cree tricked us into having a party and the house was left in ruins. Don't you remember everything we had to clean?"
"Of course I remember, those things are not forgotten" they all nodded at such a statement "Father will not find out and this time we have good cleaning staff, they will take care of that."
"If you say so," she shrugged and let Ashley continue.
"This is what we'll do," she got up from her seat, "we'll make a list, you know, we have a reputation to take care of, make it look like a prestigious party, no one gets in here without an invitation. We have to be careful not to invite too many teen ninjas because I don't want any silly kids showing up around here." She banged on the table causing everyone to jump. "We'll have our dear Nigel come to the mansion and while everyone is distracted with the best party of the year, we'll take him to our secret hideout and talk to him face to face. He will be cornered and will have no choice but to speak the truth."
"Brilliant sister, but I have a question," Bruce got up from his seat to speak, "What if Nigel remembers everything?" I don't think he wants to help us if he just remembers us as the ones Delightful Children From Down the Lane.
They all fell silent and looked down. Having been that group of children allied to adults and teenagers, tormenting many children, especially to those in Sector V, it didn't leave them with a good track record of trust.
"Then we'll have to tell Nigel the truth," Lenny interrupted, "That we remember exactly who we are."
"You're sure? I was going to use it as a last resort," Bruce asked in a concerned tone.
"If it comes to that, I want us all to agree that if Nigel doesn't give in then we'll tell him we remember everything.
"Fine," the others said in unison and they looked at each other strangely, they rarely said things at the same time and when it happened they still got scared.
Fanny was sitting in the soccer stands of the high school football field. She drank from her water bottle from time to time as she watched the cheerleading teams do their routine practices and at the same time, as the coach punished the boys of the team for their poor performance in the afternoon practice and sending them to do like 20 laps without stopping the whole field. Next to her was Nigel, reading a book of Shakespeare, he had to admit that as a child he didn't understand why her mother kept reciting those sonnets but now that he had grown up, he had taken a liking to him. .
Somehow or another, the three of them had grown quite close in the past few days. Just today, he had already been part of her table. Of course, it all boiled down to Fanny scolding him for being so confident with the two of them, but it was also true that Nigel felt a little lonely without his friends and had a hard time socializing and speaking coherently with other students, so Fanny and Patton resigned themselves and they let him stay close to them to keep an eye on him so he wouldn't screw up.
From time to time, Nigel would look up and stare at the cheerleading squad. He still couldn't believe that Abigail was part of that group. Although of course, she wasn't like the other girls bragging about being a cheerleader all day like the rest of the girls but being a little more reserved about it and talking to everyone made Abigail Lincoln everything a man could wish for.
"You know, anyone looking at you right now would think you were interested in a cheerleader," Fanny crossed her arms as she tried to relax and see something other than Patton and his muscles.
"What are you talking about?"
"Of your goofy face, pervert. Do you like Abigail?" Asked the redhead in an angry tone. She didn't like men staring at a girl like that.
"What? Of course not, it's just that... well... I haven't seen her in a long time" he let out a heavy sigh and looked up at the sky "Everything is so different now, I would like to talk to her but I know it's useless, she doesn't remember me."
"You better keep that thought deep inside your mind, don't do anything and don't get close to her unless there's no other option but it's better to stay out of it."
"And well, since no one can hear us from here, is your thing with Patton real or is it really just a lie?"
"Who gave you permission to get into my private life? " She asked angrily and her cheeks blushed a little, something that Nigel could notice. "Nothing is real and everything works perfectly, end of story" she looked away .
Fanny agreed to be his fake girlfriend just to always be near him and be included in the ninja's affairs without raising suspicion. To everyone, she was just Patton's girl. And with that, she had gotten rid of the constant flirting from the other boys in high school and since there weren't many red-haired girls like her there, she was considered quite an exotic beauty. Although many boys after approaching ended up completely moving away from her due to her rough attitude. They called Patton Drilovsky a winner for "conquering his hard heart."
Nigel's phone started ringing and both he and Fanny put on bluetooth headsets. They made a call with the Supreme Leader at that time because they needed to report together and due to the position in which they were, for anyone who saw them it only seemed that they were talking while they saw something on his cell phone.
"Dammit! I still don't understand these gadgets" said Nigel trying to answer the video call. Annoyed, Fanny took the cell phone from his hands and pressed the button that activated the call.
"Seriously Numbuh 1 stop being so useless."
"What? Try to adapt to society suddenly in a few days to see if you think the same."
"What did you say?"
"Are you done yet?" Joey spoke from the cell phone but only they could hear him due to the headphones. Looking around, Nigel immediately knew that he was at the KND moon base.
"Excuse me, sir, Leader, sir," exclaimed the teenager nervously.
"Don't get so excited, that way you look like you're going to fight with your poor partner," he paused before continuing, "Okay, enough, report me everything."
"Numbuh 1 is still adjusting to the teenage environment, I must admit he doesn't do so badly but sometimes it makes me want to beat him up when he messes up but well you know, men" Fanny started to say talking about more as always "Numbuh 60 and I continue with the usual plan, there is no news on that. The Delightful Children have already spoken with Nigel but for now they have been very kind to him, we still keep an eye on their movements. I sent a scouting mission to Numbuh 44A and Numbuh 44B at their high school and I'm waiting for a report and I'm considering including my brothers in the teen section of KND just so they leave Patton alone every time he comes to my house."
"I'll take it into account, thanks Numbuh 86. An impeccable job as always." Fanny adjusted her hair, proud to hear those compliments. "Anything to add Numbuh 1?"
"All good, all right. I keep a low profile as it was established for me, although I greatly appreciate the help of my superiors here present because it would be a hopeless case, really Numbuh 444, being a teenager is crazy."
"Don't even say it, just look at my brother," Joey added to the conversation.
"I request permission to approach Wally more closely, sir."
"Have you lost your mind?" The redhead next to her asked angrily.
Nigel knew that his superiors were going to object but something inside him told him that he had to do it. He always trusted his instincts and this time, he was sure they weren't wrong. He looked up and saw Wally running after Patton across the field. He always knew that his friend was very athletic and energetic and he showed good performance in sports. Seeing him that way made her feel a tingle inside him. His friend was there, everyone was there, they just had to remember who they were.
"Only enough to collect clues to the whereabouts of all the kidnapped agents."
"Listen Numbuh 1, I know Wally was your friend in the past but trust me, it's not him. I don't want to compromise the advantage we have of being seen as totally oblivious to the situation. Any wrong move could give you away."
"I'll take the risk, please trust me, both of you," he directed his gaze to Fanny who was still looking at him in bewilderment. "I promise that when I see my position compromised, then I will drop whatever I'm doing and walk away."
Joey thought for a moment. He knew that the key to everything would fall on his brother. He was the leader of the teen ninjas. And if they managed to get it back, one way or another, they could win a great battle.
"Okay, but you'll be under 86's supervision and absolutely have to report any progress you make to her."
"Great, more work," Fanny thought aloud.
"Did you say something, Numbuh 86?"
-No sir. I'll be delighted" she forced a fake smile towards the cell phone camera and Joey just laughed. In reality, he loved his position and was aware of the great responsibility he had on his shoulders and could almost swear that no other agent would handle the situation as good as him.
"Okay, go back to your business and good luck," said this, the call ended.
"I hope you know what you're doing," Fanny got up taking Patton's sports bag and she came down the bleachers when she saw that practice was over to give it to her.
"Of course." Nigel got up too and left the place, but not before giving Wally and Abby a sad look. Somehow, he was determined to get every member of the team back from him.
