Attacked-Ch 4
Derek and the others were led out to the surgical waiting room with the promise of keeping them updated whenever possible on Penelopes condition. About two hours into the surgery Dave and Reid went to the cafeteria to get coffee and tea for everybody while they waited on any news on how the heart of their team was doing.
Fran sat down beside her son and took his hand and said, "she's going to be alright, she's a fighter", Derek looked at her and said, "if only I had gotten there a few minutes earlier, if I had only been there, I could have saved her from this, why her, why her momma"?, Fran said, "Derek Michael Morgan, this is not your fault, nobody blames you, nobody, do you hear me"?, tears streamed down his cheeks as he said, "somebody does, I do, I blame me momma".
JJ said, "Morgan she wouldn't want you to blame yourself, she loves you and knows that you would do anything to keep her safe, we all would, we all love her". Emily said, "we will catch this bastard and we will make him pay for what he did to PG and that's a promise", he looked up at her and said, "but why her Em she's never hurt anybody, why do this to her"?, Fran said, "we may never know why it was her but I do know one thing and that is that you will find whoever did this to her and you will make him pay".
Derek looked at his friends and then his mom as she said, "of that I have no doubt at all", Derek sighed and said, "it's just I love her so much and tonight I was finally going to tell her how I really feel and then this sick bastard does this to her and now I may never get the chance to tell her and show her how much she means to me".
JJ said, "you'll get that chance and trust me when I say that she loves you just as much as you love her, she always has Derek, always and don't you ever forget that". He weakly smiled and said, "thanks guys, what would I do without you", Emily grinned and said, "well my friend, you will never have to find out because you're stuck with us for the rest of your life" causing everybody to laugh.
Meanwhile in surgery the doctors were having a lot of trouble, the stabbing wounds had done a lot more damage than they previously thought and she was still losing a lot of blood. When they got one wound sewed up another would start bleeding, it didn't seem like they were ever going to get everything taken care of.
The doctor kept her promise and sent out a nurse on several different occasions to let them know that they were having complications but that for now she was stable, critical but stable. The news seemed to calm everybody down, especially Derek who was wound tight with worry as he paced back and forth across the large waiting room.
Dave looked at his wife and said, "poor kid, he blames himself for this", Fran said, "it's only because he loves her so much, he would do anything to keep her safe". Dave brought his wife's hand up to his lips and kissed it and said, "we all would Bella, we all would" as they continued watching the worried Derek slow his pacing before finally walking over and joining them in a seat.
Finally at about 5:00 am the doctor came back out and walked over to them, they jumped up and Derek said, "how is she, is she alright"?, the doctor said, "she made it through the surgery, she was in a lot worse shape than we had originally thought, the stabbing wounds were really bad, he managed to hit a few arteries, she has lost a lot of blood so the next 72 hours are going to be critical for her".
Reid said, "you said the wounds were bad, how bad are we talking here"?, the doctor said, "well she has a collapsed lung, that I told you already but we also had to remove her spleen, now that in itself isn't that bad but the wounds were very deep and will take a long time to heal", Derek dropped his head and then looked back up at her as she continued.
She then said, "the wounds to her chest were severe and he got very close to her heart, he missed it my mere inches, things could have been a lot worse and then their was the brutal rape, their was a lot of ripping and tearing from that alone, he really did a number on Penelope and now she's really gonna need you all to be there for her".
Fran said, "ohhhh you can count on that, we all love her and will do anything for her", the doctor weakly smiled and said, "when she's ready we have some good therapists here for her to talk too". Derek said, "when can we see her"?, the doctor said, "she'll be in recovery for a couple of hours and then they will move her up into a private room where you can all stay as long as you like".
Dave said, "thank you doctor", he held out his hand and said, "I'm sorry, we were so worried about kitten that we didn't get your name", the doctor grinned and said, "I understand and I'm Grace, Grace Love and I'll be Penelopes doctor while she's here and if you need anything please don't hesitate to let me know", they all nodded their heads yes in agreement as they watched her walk back toward the nurses station.
Fran put her hand on her sons arm and said, "since we know that it's going to be a few hours before we can see her and that she is stable we can go grab some breakfast". JJ said, "and we can call and check on Henry and Jack", Derek weakly smiled and said, "breakfast sounds good to me" as he followed his family toward the cafeteria to grab a bite to eat after a long and terrifying night.
