A/N: The songs in this chapter are a tribute to Michael Lee Aday, better known to the music world as Meat Loaf, who passed away recently at the age of 74.

June 5th 2007…

I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) by Meat Loaf played on the small radio on Carly's desk as she put her thoroughly cleaned clothes in the dresser… and she heard a knock before she opened the door and Derby walked in.

"So Caroline… I'm wondering if you'd like me to take you around town and show you what it's like here? To help you get used to life in Bullworth." Derby spoke up as he and Carly hadn't spoken much since she had been brought here by a social worker a few days ago.

"Sounds like a good idea. Just give me a few minutes to get ready." Carly responded even though she felt a bit awkward around Derby.

Derby nodded and walked into the hallway, closing the door behind him and Carly changed out of her cut off shorts and grey strapless top before putting them in the hamper and changed into a light green babydoll sundress… and applied cuticle oil to her cuticles and rubbing it into them before applying lotion to freshen up her light coral nails.

'You're right, Pinky. It does bring out a tan.' Carly thought as she remembered Pinky had brought a gift basket over yesterday and had helped ease Carly's anxiety by giving her a mani, the color being from Gash's recently released plant based line.

Putting her green and tan striped sandals on, Carly turned the radio off and checked her makeup before going downstairs and Derby guiding her outside to his Sentinel XS before they got into it and closed the doors before they buckled up and he turned the engine and air conditioning on… and both breathed relieved sighs as the air cooled them.

Derby drove out of the driveway and Carly cautiously turned the radio volume up as Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf played and she smiled and relaxed.

"I think you'll get along with quite a few people here. You and Jimmy Hopkins have the same taste in music." Derby explained, having started to actually respect Jimmy after the school riot.

"I saw him for a few seconds when I looked outside earlier." Carly responded, Derby remembering that Jimmy had been helping Russell fix the motorbike that Jimmy, Russell, Edgar and Zoe found a few days ago.

When they reached the Old Bullworth Vale Coffeehouse, Derby parked the car and they unbuckled before he shut the engine off and they got out.

Derby locked the car and they walked into the coffeehouse, Gord turning curious when he saw them.

"Derby, who's the lady?" Gord asked after he walked over to them.

"Gord, this is Caroline De Santa. She's staying with my family." Derby responded as Gord and Carly shook hands.

"Please call me Carly." Carly replied.

As they drank their pineapple smoothies and talked as the other Preppies joined them, Carly started to feel at ease.

But she wasn't entirely sure how long this feeling would last…

Present time, August 13th 2007…

After eating and getting ready for the day, Carly grabbed her backpack and belongings that were necessary for her dorm room and Alexandra Harrington helped her put hers and Derby's belongings in the Sentinel XS.

The tension was easy to pick up on and Alexandra carefully pulled Carly aside.

"He'll calm down, Carly. It'll just take time." Alexandra whispered before they hugged for a while.

After they let go and Carly and Derby got into the car, Alexandra got in the driver's side and drove the two away from the house… and as Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf played on the radio, Carly lightly tapped her fingers on her right hand against the arm rest and Derby caught a glimpse of her short nails, which were painted with a pinkish white nail polish.

'Not fooling me by pretending to be the sweet innocent schoolgirl!' Derby thought.

"So how was your time out on the town last night, Carly?" Alexandra asked as she and Carly looked at each other.

"Interesting is the right word to describe it, Mrs. Harrington. I got to meet people that I hadn't met here yet." Carly answered as they smiled.

'You're a smooth liar, Caroline.' Derby thought before he quickly dropped his wicked smirk. "So Mom, when are Aunt Marcie and Uncle Samuel planning to renew their wedding vows?" He asked.

"They set the date for September 8th and don't worry, you two can invite anyone you want to invite to the ceremony. No strict guidelines on guests, let's just let this be a fun event." Alexandra explained before they reached Bullworth Academy.

As Carly and Derby walked to the dorm buildings with their things, Derby forcefully stopped her by grabbing her right arm and she pulled his left hand off of her.

"Don't touch me!" Carly responded in a low and serious tone before Derby grabbed both of her shoulders this time and wouldn't let go.

"You're gonna pay for that little stunt you pulled last night with him-" Derby threatened before he heard "Let her go!" and turned around.

He saw that Russell was just a few inches away from him, Russell's fists clenched tightly… and Derby immediately let go of Carly before quickly retreating with his things.

"It's okay, Miss. He won't hurt you again." Russell responded before they shook hands.

"Thank you." Carly replied before Jimmy walked over to them and Carly and Jimmy smiled at each other.

"Hey, Carly. Welcome to Bullworth, I see you've met Russell." Jimmy responded.

"Derby was hurting her." Russell explained, Jimmy turning to Carly and seeing bruises starting to form on her shoulders.

"Don't worry, Derby won't hurt you again. We'll make sure of that." Jimmy responded before he and Carly hugged and Carly and Russell hugged.

After getting almost everything set up in the dorm room, Carly heard a knock and went to the door and unlocked it… and let Gary in before closing the door, Gary handing her class schedule to her before his eyes went wide.

"Derby grabbed you?!" Gary asked, Carly nodding.

"Russell didn't like that, he got in Derby's face and got him to back off." Carly responded.

"Good that Russell did. I don't care that Derby has never heard "No!" in his entire life. That trust fund prick needs to keep his hands to himself, it's not okay to grab someone." Gary replied before he helped Carly hide her marble printed Reflect journal and pen in the desk… and Carly put her schedule in her plaid printed backpack.

"Feel free to turn down the invitation… Mrs. Harrington's sister and brother in law are renewing their wedding vows in September and she said that there won't be a strict guest list. Would you mind attending it with me?" Carly responded.

"I wouldn't mind at all, those events can be a bit awkward without a friendly face around." Gary replied before they carefully hugged for a few seconds. "But one thing, Carly, I've never tied a tie before and I need help tying one." He explained.

"No problem, Gary." Carly replied before they heard "Attention, students, classes will start at 8:30 instead of 9 this morning. That is all." and Carly seeing that it was almost 8 before she and Gary grabbed their backpacks and he guided her out of the dorm.

In one of the buildings, they reached English class… and Mr. Galloway dropped his liquor bottle in shock.

"Smith?!" Mr. Galloway exclaimed as everyone else saw Gary and Carly.

The whispers started… and Carly and Gary knew that this wouldn't be the fresh start that either of them were hoping it would be.
