When Steve had called Maria she was surprised that he had called but he also heard the sound of relief in her voice, but when Steve told her the situation it took her a while to believe but she agreed to meet them at the compound with Tony who was also willing to help them.
The plan was to make sure Wanda and Natasha were okay and Steve was going to leave them in the hands of Maria and Tony and go back into hiding. Vision had come to pick them up 3 hours after Steve had made the phone call and they were just landing back at the compound.
"So these are the pipsqueaks," Tony says when they came into the living room Steve wasn't surprised to see Peper, Rhondey, and Maria there. Steve was holding Wanda and Vision, Natasha who were both asleep, Sam had to stay behind and Natasha had a full-on tantrum screaming things in Russian and then Wanda started crying too and also babbling in Russian before he got them settled and quiet.
Maria had to admit when she saw Steve step through the door her heart pounded faster. She had missed him that was for sure but he was fugitive and she couldn't do long distance and they both decided it was better to end it. What she didn't expect was him to come looking like a brunette and have grown a beard and when she thought this man couldn't get any more sexy she couldn't be more wrong.
"Tony," Steve said
"Steve. I got Cho here. She's willing to give them a check-up, Pepper brought them clothes and diapers. Did you bring what I asked for?"
"Yes, it's in the book bag."
"Follow me to the lab, leave the half-pints with Maria and Pepper, they'll be fine and then you can go on your way."
Steve nodded not wanting to argue he and Tony weren't on talking terms the only reason they were talking was because it involved Natasha and Wanda people who he both saw as sisters and would never want them to get hurt. So he passed Wanda to Maria's awaiting arms and from the corner of his eye, he saw Vision pass Natasha to Pepper. This small translation caused both girls to wake up.
"Look who wake," Pepper said as she lightly bounced Natasha to help wake her up, Maria was rubbing circles on Wanda's back.
"Мама ты здесь." (Mama, you're here.) Wanda said to Maria who was left shocked at what came out of little Wanda's mouth. Maria was no one's mother, she never even thought about having kids. Yes, she and Steve talked about it but that was before but they weren't together now so it hadn't crossed her mind.
"What did she say," Tony asked
"She said Mama you're here to Miss Hill." Vision answered
"Папа, Мама, где мы." (Papa, Mama, where are we.) Natasha asked turning to Steve who didn't speak a word of Russian the only thing he made out was Papa and that word left him just as frozen in his spot as Maria.
"She said Papa, Mama, where are we." Vision translated for the ones who couldn't speak Russian.
"Меня зовут мария не мама." (My name is Maria not Mama.) Maria said
"Нет, ты мама." (No, you're Mama.) Wanda said their Russian was a little slurred but Maria suspected it was because of their age.
"Maria."
"Мама." Both girls said
"Maria."
"Мама."
"Maria."
"Мама."
"Maria."
"Мама."
"Miss Hill I don't think their opinion on who you are to them is going to change." Vision said breaking the glaring contest that was going on between Maria and Wanda.
"Did they do this to you?" Maria asked speaking to Steve for the first time
"No, but I think during their tantrum the word Papa did slip, I don't know there was a lot of shouting." Steve didn't know why Wanda and Maria saw them as parents, He might have had dreams
"Откуда ты знаешь, что я твоя мать, а он твой отец?" (How do you know I'm your mother and him your father?) Maria asked the girls
"Мы просто знаем." (We just know.) Natasha said with a shrug of her shoulder, which didn't help Maria or any one of the matter know what the hell was going on in the 2 little redhead's minds, so Maria decided to test a theory out.
"Наташа." (Natasha.) Maria said addressing the redhead who was in Pepper's arms
"Да, мама." (Yes, Mama.) Natasha replied back
"Вы знаете место, называемое красной комнатой?" (Do you know a place called the red room?) Maria asked if she needed to know if there was some part of Natasha that would react to the name she gave Maria a confused look before shaking her head no. So Natasha and Wanda weren't playing a trick and they didn't remember their past.
"I don't think they remember their past, Natasha doesn't remember the red room, but we can't be sure. We need to have Dr. Cho look into it." Maria said looking at the other adults in the room.
"What are you going to do with them?" Steve said his question directed at Tony
"I was going to hand them over to Hill no way in hell was I going to take care of kids, they're cute but no," Tony said
"But Ross is watching me and me appearing with 2 redheads out of nowhere will be suspicious." It was true Ross had found out her relationship with Steve and set on watching her like a hawk waiting for Steve to call her or appear but she knew Steve wouldn't put her in that position of being locked up or in danger.
"I was going to forge them papers that say they're your kids with Steve and that it had been a secret," Tony said
"That wouldn't work Steve is blonde and I'm a brunette and this would make Ross want to seek them out more because they're 'Steve kids'." They were supposed to keep Natasha and Wanda safe until they could be back to an adult that didn't mean putting them in more danger having Ross believe they were related to Steve.
"Actually it could work. My grandfather was Irish and had red hair and green eyes so they could pass." Steve said making Maria send a murderous glare at Steve he wasn't helping at all.
"That's not the point Steven," Maria said emphasizing Steve's name she uses to do this every time she was mad at him for doing something stupid.
"How about we all stop arguing and get these munchkins a check-up, food, and some proper clothes. And we can figure this all out later." Pepper suggested she didn't want to hear the arguing she was still having a hard time dealing with the fact that her friends were kids, 2 cute adorable kids that she wanted to hug and never let go.
"Yeah, let's take them to medbay." And without another word Steve watched Maria and Pepper disappear down the hallway with the 2 redheads waving bye to him and he couldn't do anything but see how cute the 2 are.
