Attacked-Ch 11
The rest of the day flew by with Penelope slowly improving as the day progressed, Derek and Fran stayed all night in her room, they took turns sleeping so that one of them was always sitting by her bedside. The next morning came and when Grace stopped by to check on Penelope Derek and Fran took this time to go grab some breakfast.
Derek wasn't very hungry but nibbled on a muffin and had some coffee, Grace had told them when they got back that Penelope's sats were still doing good and improving all the time. Derek couldn't help but smile after hearing that his baby girl was still doing better, he couldn't wait for her to wake up so that he could tell her how he truly felt about her, it had been a long time in coming.
The team had called several times throughout the morning and afternoon and Fran and Derek would tell them what Grace and the nurses were saying about Penelope's condition. Around 5:00 Fran looked at her son and said ,"I'll be back baby boy, I'm going to go grab some coffee", Derek nodded his head and said, "okay momma, be careful", she kissed her son on the top of the head and said, "always sweetie, always" as he watched her walk out of the room.
Fran walked back into Penelope's room with dinner for herself and Derek, it had been a long day and she thought that maybe just maybe she might be able to get him to eat some now that he knew that Penelope was doing better.
As the mother and son sat eating they talked about when Derek was little, they talked about things they hadn't talked about in years and by the time they were finished eating they were both laughing. Derek put his hand on top of hers and said, "thanks for this momma, I really needed it", she grinned at her son and said, "you are very welcome baby boy but you don't have to thank me, I'm a mom, that's what we do".
Sometime later JJ, Emily and the rest of the team came to visit, Derek looked up at them and could tell that their was something that they needed to say but they didn't want to say anything in front of Penelope, especially since she is responding to things she hears.
Dave said, "Derek, why don't you step out into the hall with Aaron and me and we will catch you up on what's been going on with Penelope's case". Derek stood up and nodded his head yes, he then walked over and kissed Penelope on her forehead and said, "I'll be right back goddess, I'll be right out in the hall".
He then turned around and followed Hotch and Dave out into the hall, one they were out of earshot Hotch and Dave filled him in on everything that had happened and everything they had discovered. When they were finished Derek said, "you have got to be kidding me, he's attacking women that look like Penelope, what kind of sick bastard is this"?, Dave said, "one of the sickest but as of today he has assaulted 5 women and they all look like kitten.
Derek said, "we need security posted outside her door, we can't take a chance that he'll try to get at her again", Hotch nodded his head and said, "that's already been arranged and the first shift will be here in a few minutes, we wanted to give you the heads up first".
Derek sighed and ran his hand over his head and said, "thanks for that", Dave put his hand on Derek's shoulder and said, "we love her too son, she means the world to us and we will do whatever it takes to keep her safe", Derek weakly smiled and said, "I just can't imagine my life without her in it, she's my world, my heart, my guiding light".
Hotch smiled at the younger agent and said, "just be sure to tell her that", Derek said, "no worries, when she wakes up I'm going to tell her everything, we belong together, she's the woman that I want to spend the rest of my life with" and Dave said, "well it's about time" and the trio of men laughed before heading back into Penelope's room to rejoin the others.
